Christmastime at the McKenna Ranch: Hank, the McKenna’s trusted wrangler, nurses a broken heart after Chaz and Liz’s marriage. Ashleigh, Chaz’s daughter, is new to ranch life. Can she survive the results of her bad judgement and make a home with her father’s new in-laws?
On Christmas Eve, Hank accepts the job of ranch foreman over the mountains in the Gallatin Canyon, Montana. But something dark is happening at the Ghost Mountain Ranch, where the past is reaching out in dangerous ways to haunt the living.
Hank’s story launches the Ghost Mountain Ranch series by Jan Scarbrough.
Whether it is the Bluegrass of Kentucky, the mountains of Montana, or Medieval England, Jan Scarbrough brings you home with romances from the heart.
The author of two popular Bluegrass romance series, Jan writes heartwarming contemporary stories about home and family, single moms and children, and if the plot allows, about another passion—horses. Living in the horse country of Kentucky makes it easy for Jan to add small town, Southern charm to her books and the excitement of a Bluegrass horse race or a competitive horse show.
The Ghost Mountain Ranch series is a contemporary western series with a good blend of mystery and happily-ever-after romance. The Dawsons of Montana is another four-book contemporary western series.
Jan leaves her contemporary voice behind with two paranormal gothic romances, Timeless and Tangled Memories, a Romance Writers of America (RWA) Golden Heart finalist. Her historical romance, My Lord Raven, is a medieval story of honor and betrayal.
Jan holds a M.A. in English from Western Kentucky University. A member of Novelist, Inc., Jan self-publishes her books.
Liz comes home for Christmas with her new husband, Chaz. Hank, the stock man who has tended the McKenna Ranch and its animals and dudes for James and Liz for years feels like an outsider now, too, because of his feelings for Liz, his boss lady, and knows he needs to move on to make a new life for himself. Ashleigh, Chaz's daughter from a previous marriage comes with him to Montana and feels like an outsider. But Josh, Hank's bunkhouse pal, befriends her and helps her learn about ranch life. This book is like a bridge...between Liz McKenna's past life and her new one, between Hank's past life and new one to come, and Ashleigh's past life and current new one. I am looking forward to the books that come after this one.
Hank is has been working for the “Six Buckles Guest Ranch" for a long time. When Jim Dawson died he wasn't sure what to do. Jim's wife Liz was a good friend, and he would have liked to pursue her, but she was his boss and then some Hollywood guy swoops in and captures her heart. Chaz brings his 16 year old daughter Ashleigh with him. While he and Liz are on their honeymoon, Ashleigh gets in a spot of trouble. Thankfully Josh Adam's finds out and he and Hank save her! What happened? How does her mother take it? What happens on Christmas eve that takes Hank away from the ranch? Will it be a good thing? Will anyone miss him? Read this story by Jan Scarbrough to find out.
I found this book discounted on Amazon via Bookbub There is no romance, and no HEA; maybe an HFN? I'm not sure what to make of it. It's a continuation from another series and this prequel will bring you the reason why Hank decides to leave for another ranch after 25 years working for James/John/Jim's family ranch. There are teenagers who drop a rape drug into a soda of a new-in-town naïve girl, and Hank is part of her rescue. Liz and Chaz are gone on their honeymoon but come back in time for Christmas celebrations, where, again, Liz is pushing her way as the only way. The whole thing is sad and heavy. Not the best I've read.
As Ashleigh herself relates, figuring out relationships here is too complicated. Hank is a ranch hand who lives in the bunk house with eighteen-year-old Josh who comes upon her while she grooms the horse she’s been riding. His unassuming nature is in marked contrast to Nelson whose swaggering come-on overwhelmed her.
The novella is a prequel to two series. Hank of the title doesn’t figure prominently until the closing pages. Will Josh profess his love or suffer in silence like his mentor?
What is a man to do every time he falls in love she finds and married some one else? Hank Spade finds himself all alone at Christmas. He has to leave. He can't stay and watch the woman he loves with her new husband. A phone call gives him a chance to leave, a Christmas miracle. Launched a new series and one I want to read. Really enjoyed this book.
Hank was the horse wrangler at the ranch. He loved the widow of his boss but didn't let anyone know. When she remarried, Hank befriended the new stepdaughter who also felt alone. The older man and young girl made a strange pair but Hank helped save her from an unscrupulous group of teens.
The characters were well written and the plot was love lost. It’s not a happy ever after story it’s a realistic story. I enjoyed the story because it was real life.
Good story but starts in middle leaves in middle and you don’t know what it is supposed to be about. Old love, friends now, future friends or just incomplete story.
I enjoy western romance movies so this book was great. I do look forward to reading more of these by Jan Scarbrough. She made it read like a friend telling you her story. I enjoyed it.
