Kingston Brothers #3

Against the Rules

Rate this book
When my brothers all but force me to go out with them the weekend before the school year begins, I don’t expect anything more than a few drinks and some laughs. What happens is better than I could’ve hoped for. I meet a strikingly beautiful woman who’s new in town. Our night starts with us laughing and drinking in the bar, moves to my bed, and ends with her disappearing into the night without any exchange of information. Monday morning, she walks into my calculus class and knocks the breath from my lungs. My one-night stand is now my student. Never one to cross the line and always one to play by the rules, I make sure to tell her nothing more can happen. But as time goes on, I start wanting to erase the line and throw the rule book out the window. Because even though it’s against the rules to be with her, I feel like, with Nova, I can find happiness again. But she deserves more than becoming my dirty little secret.

Thank goodness for Kindle Unlimited because the minute I finished reading this delicious story, I was able to download On The Rocks and Truth or Dare and complete my binge read of the Kingston men (so far)!

Some rules are meant to be broken …. And I am so glad these two agreed with that! Listen, I read student/teacher and age-gap tropes a lot. They are always my go-to when I’m searching for something to read. They will out win any other trope every single time. Needless to say, I’ve read tons of different plots and characters and authors and I just want to say READ.THIS.BOOK. with enough emphasis so you fully understand you should READ.THIS.BOOK. Was that enough? …

Against the Rules is nowhere near a quick and dirty read. Yes, it is deliciously sexy, but it is also a growth of two people that seem to be worlds apart but in reality, are the perfect fit for one another. I’m not going to give away anything about the story progression except to maybe tell you that this story might take you by surprise. It checks off all the boxes these tropes would have, but not in any way you might be used to reading them. It’s unique and beautiful and packed with emotion! READ.THIS.BOOK.

What’s this book about? (I'm trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
A one night stand that breaks all the rules. When they meet again, she’s his student. He’s her professor. This can be read as a standalone.

This was my second Isabel Lucero read! The blurb sounded so promising, and the novel delivered. The Kingston family has grown on me so much; I love these characters so much. The chemistry between the lead couple is incredible. I’m not a fan of student-professor romances, and Isabel Lucero made me love every single second of this story. Their relationship evolved genuinely, and they were so entertaining to read. Nova’s story was mysterious and intriguing. Elijah leads his family; he’s a single professor not in a hurry to settle down. Obviously, Nova tests all of his limits. There’s lots of stubbornness, but they are so cute. The drama in the end was exciting!!! I recommend this story to lovers of age gap, intense chemistry, and student/teacher romance.

ORIGINAL COMMENT
Lucero is a solid one. She doesn't disappoint. She writes relatable people. Ones you love to invest time in. The chemistry between her characters is astounding. And the Kingston bros are just pure fire. I'm reading all the other Kingston books (I read Cillian's book early in the year already) in anticipation for Merrick's book (the arc's waiting in my Kindle)!

One of the best age-gap romance!

I liked the difference in the personalities of the MCs. They were meant to be together!
Elijah is such an understanding partner and Nova is full of life!

Writing style of the author is pretty straightforward and easy to grasp. She was as clear in her thoughts as it comes.

~ 5 Breaking the Rules Stars ~

Sometimes breaking the rules can lead to something really special!!!

That is the theme that came out of Against the Rules by Isabel Lucero.

This book was AMAZING!!! One of the best student/teacher, age gap romances I have read in a long time. If these tropes are your cup of tea, then you really need to read this book!!!

I was instantly drawn into this book from the very beginning. What I loved the most about this book was that it wasn’t drawn out/slowed down or added drama just for drama sake. Yes there is angst and there is drama, but not what we normally see in a book with these tropes. I found this very refreshing and it made this story feel fresh and unique.

This book can be read as a complete standalone and in any order. There are reoccurring characters from the last two books but I don’t think that there are any major spoilers if you read these books out of order. This book was so well written and I loved the flow and pace of the story. Nova and Elijah were amazing characters.

I loved watching Nova open Elijah’s eyes to a new world where breaking the rules isn’t all that bad. Even though there is a 14 year age difference I thought they worked well together. I loved their banter and the chemistry was off the charts HOT!!! I loved them so much I couldn’t help but root for their HEA!!!

I loved that we got a little bit of a build up for Merrick’s story…the youngest Kingston brother. I am guessing his story is next and I am looking forward to reading it.

This story had everything I look for in a 5 star read. I felt all the emotions I want to feel when reading a romance story. I laughed, swooned, yelled and even got teary eyed. I guess I just love when a book sucks me in and I feel what the characters feel.

I can’t recommend this book enough. If you love a book with an age gap, student/teacher and of course is forbidden, then this book is for you. I also loved the added suspense aspect she added to the storyline….it kept me hanging on until it was all revealed. Add this book to your TBR list NOW!!! and 1-click it once it releases!!!

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

Nova is a college student who is trying to start again after her life has been turned upside down, one night she lets loose and has a one night stand with a man she never expected to see again but her world is about to be upended again when she walks in to class only to find the man she disappeared on is now her Professor. Will she be able to fight her attraction to her teacher and with her ex stalking her will she ever be free to be happy?

Elijah Kingston is the responsible brother, the one who has raised them all, because of his past he has decided that he is not interested in relationships and one night stands are the way to go but when he meets a sassy woman and they have an amazing night together he finds himself wishing for more. Walking into class he gets the shock of his life when one of his new students turns put to be the woman he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about is sat in his class, knowing that he can’t let his attraction for her go further and actually being able to resist her are two very different things. Can he fight his true feelings for this woman who has so captivated him or could he be about to break all of his own rules and give in to love?

This was a new author for me and believe me this is one that I will be reading again I am dying to read the previous two books. I recommend this book highly. Easily a ***** read.

My My My The Kingston Brothers Are just that Fantastic.
We have met them all, we have seen Cillian & Midge find there HEA, we have seen Royce & London also find it too but now we are seeing Mr Responsible Elijah Kingston get his story.
Elijah is a man who will do whatever it takes to keep his family happy after everything that have had to endure, he has put aside his own happiness for others until one day he meets Nova Rivera and he never expected her to turn his life upside down.
Nova is a college student looking for a new start after enduring something’s in her life but when she starts school she never expects to see Elijah again.
The chemistry between Elijah & Nova is off the charts but it seems so forbidden, can Elijah get past the fact that sometimes it’s okay that you step out of your comfort zone and find that happiness that not only you need but you deserve.

All the feels! A story you won’t be able to put down!

I was so curious about Elijah from the two first books in the series! And I’m not disappointed. Nova and Elijah have chemistry from the first encounter! An amazing student-teacher romance not to be missed!

I struggled with this one. I liked Nova and Elijah. I also liked them together and believed that they could be a real couple, despite their 14 year age difference. I also believed, by the end, that there was enough there for them to be able to make it as a couple.

If this were placed as an age gap novel, I think I would have enjoyed it more. But, it's supposed to be a forbidden romance. He's a professor and she is in one of his classes.

For a forbidden romance to work, I need to believe that the characters would risk everything to be together. I never believed that. In fact, in the last 20% of the book, Nova is still doubting that she should settle down with Elijah or if she is too young to find "the one" already and should date around. It's a brief conversation, and it actually becomes a turning point for the couple. But it also served to illustrate to me why the forbidden of this didn't work and why the story always felt a little off to me...I never believed that the characters were willing to risk everything to be together...and, if you are going to be in a forbidden romance, that needs to be there or you are risking way more than you should.

I did like the characters and if the forbidden aspect was removed, I think I could enjoy this one, but as is, it didn;t work for me.

I am not able to recommend this title.

Another Kingston brother finds his other half. It is Elijah's turn. The oldest brother super hot sexy teacher. He loves his job and his family. I loved this story from page one. The connections between the brothers and their others is fun to read. Elijah is the oldest always following the rules. He became their parent early on in his life. He has forgotten how it let go and live a little. He wants to though. Going against the rules he meets his brother out at the bar to have fun. He meets this very attractive interesting woman. The connection is made and
sparks fall into the bedroom. When schools starts the next day he finds a surprise waiting for him in the front row. Nova the woman from the hot night before is a student. Nova knows there is something special there and will not let it go. Just because the age difference and Elijah is her teacher who cares. When you know you know. The push and pull between from these too so hot. Oh the chase is fun getting each others attention. The uptight professor and his hot loving student. Can they have a real relationship? With rules, family influences and a crazy past relationship cause trouble. Is this sexy as sin professor ready for his hot for the teacher student. Have fun reading their story to a HEA.

Ahhh The Kingston Brothers are back! And this time it's Elijah's story.

Let me just say..grab this series.. it's SO damn good!

Elijah has been the glue that's held this family together for years. After their parents died, Elijah, being the oldest, did what he thought was the responsible thing and kept all 4 of them together.

Now, NOW, he get's his HEA!

This is a student/teacher trope, and I'm pretty sure had he been my teacher, I too would have pursued him, lol.

Nova and Elijah are fabulous characters. Their story is wonderfully well written with lots of drama and lots of angsty good times. Isabel writes all those feels so well! Not over the top. Not out of the blue. Their intrinsic to the story line and it just flows. The words coalesce into a steamy, enjoyable picture :)

You know what this means, right? Next comes Merrick's story. And who doesn't love a hot rocker?!?

Isabel, a wonderful job as always, writing an amazingly entertaining and enjoyable read!

Due to his family history Elijah had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders at a young age and knew that he needed to be a good role model for his brothers. As a result, he has focused his attention on his career as a professor and wasn’t looking for love or a relationship. When he met Nova, he was expecting that one night would be all they would have however fate had different ideas.

Nova has relocated to town and is looking to have a fun night out before she starts college. She and Elijah had an immediate chemistry and connection, but she wasn’t expecting to find out that he was one of her professors or that one night may not be enough.

Elijah is determined that he and Nova must keep their relationship strictly professional, but some things are easier said then done. Between her past and the student/teacher relationship things are about to get complicated. I have enjoyed this series and this book is no exception.

Oh my goodness! You are going to love this one as much as I love this one!
After reading the last book (this one can be read on its own), I could hardly wait for Elijah to get his HEA. He has been the caregiver for his three youngest brothers since he was in college and always placed there needs ahead of his. Very noble of him don’t you think?

Elijah and Nova meet one night at a bar... and I’m guessing you know what happens. Then on Monday morning, she enters his classroom as his student! Whoa - forbidden romance!!!

Student/teacher
14 year age gap

Isabel sure knows how to write a steamy story to capture your attention and make you not want to sleep or work the next morning!
I highly recommend you read this story!

So loving the Kingston Brothers
Elijah is the last of the brothers and is my favourite.
He does whatever it takes to make his family happy. Family is everything, his first priority... until he meets Nova.
The chemistry between these two is off the charts.
Will Elijah learn to put himself first, even if it means going out of his comfort zone and into forbidden territory. Will he get his HEA
I’m not usually a fan of age gap romances but this one just worked.
I was given an ARC, but voluntarily chose to review

Elijah Kingston stole my heart and became my new favorite Kingston brother.

Nova and Elijah had an intense chemistry that they couldn't ignore and every moment they tried their chemistry just seemed to grow.

I loved that they could go from dirty talk which Elijah seemed to have a Master's Degree in then they effortlessly switched the conversation to getting to know each other. These 2 fit together seamlessly and it showed on every page.

This story is perfect in every way.
A one night stand turns into a tale of love with a few rollercoaster loops along the way. If two people deserve to be together its Elijah and Nova.
Elijah has always put everyone first above himself and when he meets Nova the second time, he takes a risk and follows his heart but Nova has a troubled past, will they be over before they begin?
You will need to read Against the Rules to find out but I promise, you won't be disappointed.

Yess!! I have been waiting for Elijah's book and I loved every page of his story. Elijah and Nova's story was everything. Student teacher romance is one of my favorites and Elijah's story did not disappoint. I wanted Elijah to have a HEA ever since the first Kingston Brothers story and Nova is exactly what he needed. This forbidden drama filled romance was steamy and had me intrigued from the beginning. Another great Kingston Brothers book!

This book is incredible.
100% my favorite by the author so far.

This hits on so many tropes I love. Forbidden romance. Student and teacher. Age gap.

Then there is a suspense element that keeps you turning pages.

I would give this more than five stars if I could. It’s a book a read in a single sitting and stayed on my mind for the next week. The best kind of book hangover that makes you smile.

Definitely worth the one click.

2.5-3.

I read this book as a stand-alone, without reading the first two in the series. I was excited by the concept of the forbidden romance, as it was a professor and college student. There was also a 14 year age gap between the characters.

This book was just okay for my preferences. I was hoping with the romance their would be more with the forbidden aspect, as it didn’t seem to be forbidden haha. It started off as a one night stand and then she walks into his classroom on the first day of school. I didn’t get invested in their chemistry or relationship.

I enjoyed Elijah’s interactions with his brothers. I was interested in their stories so may go back and check them out.

This is the third book in the Kingston Brother's Series from Isabel Lucero. I have read the second book but not the first so you can read this book as a standalone. However I can promise you that your going to love it so much you are going to go back and read On The Rocks, and Truth or Dare. These Kingston brothers sure do know how to steal a readers heart and fast. This is the story of Elijah Kingston. He in my opinion or from what I got of him out of the second book is the more serious of the three brothers. He is very responsible and never breaks the rules. After everything that his family has been through he is the one who makes sure they are all happy and this has cost him his own happiness. One night out before the start of college classes where Elijah is a calculus teacher and he meets Nova Rivera and has the most amazing night of his life. However she disappears into the night without him knowing and you can imagine that they are both pretty shocked when they walk into class and there they see each other again. These two have some smoking hot chemistry from the start and just like Elijah her life has not been easy and she is trying to recover from an event that turned her world upside down. These two deserve happiness, and together they will find it even if it is against the rules. I loved it and you all will too.

Against The Rules (Kingston Brothers Number 3) is a long-awaited book for me.  I have been dying for Elijah’s story since we met him in Royce & Cills’ books.  I knew it was a professor/student romance but OMG guys, this book is literally the age gap/professor-student/forbidden romance of my dreams.  Elijah is steadfast, loves his brothers and a little stuck in his ways.  And he’s ok with his life how it is….until he meets Nova. ⁣
 ⁣
Elijah and Nova have a ‪one-night‬ stand and part ways until she walks into his class and sees that he is her professor. Elijah won’t go against the university rules because he is the ultimate rule follower but Nova is this smart, sassy & strong woman who isn’t afraid to go after what she wants.  And what she wants is Elijah.  Their relationship is HOT..they are so 🔥 together.  But they also talk, laugh, dance in the kitchen while cooking and do everything that Elijah hasn’t allowed himself do in a long time…live life to the fullest.   She is exactly what he needs in his life. Elijah is the safety, loyalty and caring that Nova needs in her life.  Yet they have to deal with university rules, family obligations, an ex that won’t let go and even physical distance.  Can they overcome all these obstacles and have a real relationship?⁣
 ⁣
Elijah was everything.  I thought I couldn’t love a Kingston brother more than Royce but I do.  I love Elijah.  He is literally the book boyfriend of my dreams.  Elijah is a Calculus professor but I think he also got a degree in dirty talk because he is so damn good at it.  And I swear to god the last thing Elijah says in the book had tears in my eyes. ⁣
 ⁣
Overall, this is an AMAZING book.   Isabel has written this series so well that you feel everything the Kingston brothers’ feel…their sadness, their happiness, their love & their triumphs.  It is just so heartfelt and a little sad at points but also funny, steamy & really loving. I just absolutely love this entire series and  I cannot stress that you need to run & grab this book ASAP!⁣
 ⁣
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.⁣

The Kingston Brothers series is so good and finally the brooding brother Elijah gets a story! I love these books you just fall in love with the whole family. All the books are standalones so it’s ok to start where ever.
Elijah is the oldest brother and has the father figure going for him. He took care of his brothers and basically raised his youngest. He has no desire to be in a relationship he’s a one night stand kinda guy.
After an amazing one night stand he gets to thinking maybe he wants more and more of Nova. To bad he didn’t get her number.... until the first day of class when none other than the sexy Nova walks in to his class.
Having to fight their feelings for each other to keep it professional they also have a big age gap. This book was so good. Of course our other favorite Kingston brothers show up so we get to see more of all of them.
Add in a pinch of drama to make it a little more difficult to make this forbidden romance work. This book was really good. It was written so well I didn’t want it to end. Everyone loves a little student teacher love. It could have gone longer but hopefully we will see more of all of them in another book there is still a 4th brother who needs to find love.

3.5 Stars- I Needed More...

There's nothing like a good teacher/student romance to tickle my fancy and I was ready to meet Nova and Professor Kingston.

As the blurb says, after a night of talking and drinking, Nova and Elijah end up back at his house for a quick roll in the hay. She's new to town and a girl that likes adventure, he's a bit of a stick in the mud due to his past that he still isn't quite over and looks for a woman to warm his bed.

The walk into the classroom is always the best part of these books and Nova's walk in didn't disappoint. However, that was pretty much where the angst ended for me. There was no "when is the other shoe going to drop" with these two. They figured things out pretty quickly and didn't have to do much sneaking around. It felt as if thier personal lives took over the storyline, leaving the teacher/student romance in the dust.

The book was well written, but lacked the chemistry and angst I wanted. That said, Elijah Kingston seems to have an interesting family I wouldn't mind getting to know a little better.

Elijah and Nova was wow! They met at a bar, and had a one night stand. Once school (college) starts, Nova was a student in Elijah's calculus class. An age gap of 14 years or so. I love these tropes. Lol it wasn't as angsty as I thought it would be though. Not a lot of dramas. It's more of a sweet read instead. ⁣

Elijah went through a bad relationship so he didn't think he was going to get married until he met Nova. Nova brought back "life" into his life. Nova also had a bad relationship. Her ex boyfriend was obsessed and controlling. When she met Elijah, she knows what she wants. She totally initiate for them to get together. 😏 Them growing as a couple was beautiful. I need to read the other books. Lol⁣

I really enjoyed Elijah and Nova's story. Elijah is the eldest Kingston brother and after his parents deaths raised his siblings on his own. His girlfriend left him because he put his brothers first. Ever since he doesn't believe in relationships. He has a one night stand with a beautiful woman. The next week he finds out she's a student. He's conflicted because he's intrigued by her. Nova is running from her ex. She moves to start over away from her stalker ex and meets Elijah. I thought despite their age difference Nova and Elijah had a lot in common. This was a great story and now I have to go back and read the first books lol.

This was a steamy student /teacher romance. Nova and Elijah hook up before Nova they realize their relationship is forbidden since Nova is his student. There's some mild angst with them fighting their attraction, but once they let go things heat up! Nova has a past that haunts her and brings the drama and suspense forward. Both characters are likeable. Nova is sweet and determined while Elijah is responsible and caring. It's nice to see them bring out the best parts of each other and neither be dragged down by immaturity. Can't wait to read the next book about baby brother Merrick!

Some things can’t be avoided. Nova and Elijah are one of those things. He tried hard but that spitfire had his number and dialed it every time. Best scene EVER was written in a Wendy's parking lot. Argue with me if you want to. I will be ready.

Although this story was one of will and giving into temptation, it was also about choices and moving on. There were some very great heart to hearts and one in particular I wanted to happen again and finish out. Isabel, was evil and didn't give me what my heart desired. That's okay though because I will get what I want just like Nova and Eli did.

Elijah and Nova met one night at a bar and they spent the night together. Imagine their surprise when they meet again but as a professor and a student. They immediately know there would be no way for them to start or continue anything they had despite their explosive chemistry and attraction for each other.

I have been waiting for Elijah's book and I loved every page of his story. Towards the end though, I don't know why Nova's hesitating and backtracking now that they're together when she was so determined to flirt with him in the first place. But still, I'm glad they had their HEA.

I was so excited to read Elijah's story as he is the oldest of the four Kingston Brothers who is always putting others before himself. Isabel did not disappoint! I loved everything about Elijah and Nova. One of the characters, Barbara, said something that rings true; "Quit looking for excuses to not try. Not every relationship has the perfect beginning.". Sometimes you have to throw the rule book out and follow your heart. Elijah and Nova are the perfect example of taking a chance on love.
