This was a good story overall. From the blurb, I wasn't sure what I was going read. I don't want to reveal too much, but the writing style is amazing. Bennett is an amazing writer, the opening chapter itself sucked me into the descriptive writing style of the author.

We meet a woman by the name of Jessie who has a one-night stand with a handsome stranger. She runs into the man again under completely different circumstances. The question is now: what happens? The only flaw I saw that in the hero of the story who made subtle digs and comments on how "women like to ask too many things," things like that etc.

I would recommend this read!

Firstly, huge thank you to Harriet for sending me a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review.

I was very intrigued by this book as neither the title nor the description on GoodReads give much away as to what the novel’s plot entails. Therefore, I won’t be giving too much away with my review either.

What I can tell you is that A Tempestuous Affair follows Jessie, who loves her job at her publishing company so much that she’s a bit (a lot) of a workaholic. Following the success of her most recent project she is due for a night out in London with her best friends. However, she is (literally) swept off her feet by a handsome stranger and ends up back in his hotel room rather than at the bar. After that night she is resigned to the fact that she won’t see him again but fate seems to have other plans…

There aren’t a lot of characters in this novel, which I liked as it didn’t distract from Jessie and ‘Dan’ as their relationship began to take on many different forms throughout the course of the novel. I thought that Jessie and ‘Dan’ balanced each other quite well and it was interesting to see what similarities they did have and how they deal with their respective family issues. I felt like there was more depth to ‘Dan’ than Jessie, he just seemed to have more layers and faces that he put on which made him more of an interesting character to me. However, that doesn’t mean that I didn’t like Jessie, because I did and found her to be quite realistic, but I thought that she could have been developed a little more to be on the same level as ‘Dan’.

I enjoyed that the novel would go between the perspectives of Jessie and ‘Dan’, as that way we were able to understand a lot more about certain situations as a reader that, ultimately, left you wanting to shake both characters and make them see sense at times. I thought the pacing of the novel started well and you could clearly see the passage of time of what was happening but towards the end of the book I felt that the pacing was a lot more rushed. A lot suddenly happens in the space of a couple of chapters towards the end. Big events happened that I would have liked to see a little more developed or fleshed out for them to feel a little more realistic. There were times where Bennett includes some clichés, however I enjoyed the way she included them as they didn’t seem out of place or forced and just left me smiling.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from A Tempestuous Affair, but I enjoyed what I found. The novel was, overall, a nice feel-good read, which is needed in these times, but with the addition of some steamy scenes and dealing with the aftermath of serious trauma which made the plot more complex. I enjoyed the distraction from the real world that A Tempestuous Affair provided and would recommend it, especially if anyone else is eager for a life-changing experience with a handsome stranger!

When a dream job helps you find the man of your dreams

From page one I knew I was going to at least like the book. Why? Because Jessie Smith has my dream job.

One evening Jessie was leaving her office to go have fun at the club with her girlfriends when a handsome stranger whipped her off her feet (literally), and instead of going to the club, they end up having a nice dinner and a steamy night together with the understanding of never seeing each other again.

To be honest, the twist at the beginning was predictable for me, but it did not make the book less interesting to read.

I'm only going to write about what I liked in the book because there was not a single thing that I didn't like.

1. the characters. All the characters, both main and secondary are described well. But what I liked more is how with every chapter the main characters open up more and more, until in the end the whole picture is shown

2. the relationship between MCs. I don't like insta-love when people just met and are instantly madly in love. Thankfully, that isn't the case in this book. The relationship between MCs develops gradually, they actually get to know each other pretty well, before declaring their feelings for each other. And I really enjoyed that.

3. the story. A bit of love, a bit of mystery, and all of it during the process of a book being written. Just the right mixture of everything to create a great story.

The whole book is a love story, the story of getting to know each other, the process of learning things about each other and still learn to love and care, but it wasn’t boring for a bit. On the opposite, I was waiting for particular moments, and as they happened, it was at the right time. It was neither rushed nor dragged on forever to the point when you just don’t care anymore.

All in all, I absolutely loved this book! If possible, I would totally give it more stars. Looking forward to reading more books by the author.

A love story that is an absolute pleasure to read. I love her overthinking, her witty thoughts and her humour. The book flowed well which moved the book along quickly. The mix between the seriousness of feelings and wit makes for an engaging read.

Jessie and Wade meet by accident. Love builds. This is a great book that leads us on the path of Wades recovery. Jessie is there to help him along the way. This book is good at showing how one partner can help another.

Let me start off by saying there are a few surprising moments in this book. The author threw just enough hints to keep you wondering about certain things until the end. This story is different than most I have read. It starts off a little steamy and then turns into a very slow burn after something unexpected happens.

Jessie Smith is such a workaholic that she has ignored all aspects of her life but work. Thank goodness her best friend works for the same publishing house or she would not even have a friend. The good part of her being overfocused on her career is that her boss decides to give Jessie a career chance of a lifetime. She is to help a very famous, just out of rehab actor write his memoirs. The task includes making sure that it is written in a timely fashion and written well enough to be a best-seller. In order to do this Jessie needs to pack her bags and move to the actor’s villa in the French Alps for a few months. Jessie has been so involved with her job she has no idea who this celebrity guy is, so there is no giggling, tongue-tied reaction. What will Jessie do?

Bennett has written a mind-boggling situation for a strong, brave, and courageous female protagonist. This is a very modern tale of what it is like for a career woman to make not only a success of herself in business but to learn to balance the job with relationships, both friends and lovers. The choices Jessie has to make are never easy and choosing to be professional at all times is a struggle. Jessie does discover that everyone has issues and hiding from them or burying yourself in work leads to a very dull, unhealthy, and unhappy life. Bennett writes with compassion for her characters and pushes them to grow personally, demonstrating that fame and money do not fix everything, and allowing yourself to be vulnerable can lead to great relationships. This is not just another girl who gets boy romance story!

I received a free ARC from Harriet Bennett for the promise of an honest review.

Imagine that all you do is work. You occasionally go out with friends, work friends at that. You have no real social life. You had your heart broken by your ex. You suffered a real tragedy in the loss of a loved one. Your life is in a runt because your are afraid to feel again. The only place you are finding happiness is in your career where you having much success. Now imagine a chance encounter with a handsome stranger that leads to a one-night stand. Now imagine your boss calling you into his office for a big new client. Now imagine this new client is your one night stand and you now have to work one-on-one with him for the foreseeable future. How do you put your attraction to the side and be a professional?

This is the dilemma Jessie faces and her new client is a Hollywood leading man, Wade Breelan. She fights her attraction to Wade but their project draws them closer together. Do they find their HEA.

It was a fun easy read. There were moments when you feel sadness, laughter,, and happiness for Jessie and Wade. There was not a lot of drama to the story, unless you count Wade's mood swings. I was surprised by the language used. The story is based in London and Jessie is British but there was very little British English in the book. I find that I have to prepare myself for the different words between British and American English but I didn't with this book.

Jessie works for Slater's, a top publishing house in London. She takes up and coming authors and turns them into best sellers. After another long day, some fun is in order. Jessie and her office mate/best friend Kelly are meeting up at Daisy's, a local watering hole, to celebrate Jessie's latest success. Those plans would soon be derailed by a tall, dark and handsome American. One night of fun, no feelings just sex, that's all it was supposed to be and then life would go back to normal. Jessie needed this. She deserved this. But tonight would make her late for an important meeting in the morning.
Dan Woods has a very important meeting in the morning also. After running into and knocking down a gorgeous woman, he just can't seem to apologize and be on his merry way. One dinner later and they are headed to his hotel room to escape reality, if only for one night. No big deal. Dan's going to enjoy his time with this beautiful woman and then, after his morning meeting, he'll head back home.
Fate had other plans.
WELL WRITTEN STORY WITH AMAZING CHARACTERS !
A story of two lost souls that didn't necessarily know they were lost until they met each other and formed a deep connection that was almost instant.
GREAT STORYLINE THAT WILL HOOK YOU INSTANTLY, WITH CHARACTERS THAT ARE RAW, REAL AND FLAWED ! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK !
