The Alignment

Rate this book
It’s the summer of 2012, and mankind’s time on earth is drawing rapidly to an end. The Mayan long-count calendar has been ticking down our final days for over twenty-six-thousand years. Locked in a blood feud with the last two vampires left on earth, two families reunite after more than a century apart to battle these hideously powerful creatures, and to stop them before they open the threshold to their world that will begin the wholesale slaughter of humanity.
Sean Dunne, a down-on-his-luck D.C. homicide detective, and Gregor Innescu, an elderly Romanian man who’s been stalking the creatures for over fifty years, are drawn together by fate, and by a shared bloodline. Gregor has tracked the vampires for decades, watched them feed, plotted their movements, and uncovered their true purpose on earth. But he’s never acted to intervene, until now. Until he met Sean Dunne.
Beginning with the discovery and removal of the Ark of the Covenant by the Knights Templar a thousand years earlier, the Innescu and Dunleavy families have shared a powerful blood bond. Separated over the centuries by countless battles with the vampires, they’ve been brought together in these final hours to prevent the opening of the threshold between worlds that would signal mankind’s bloody demise.
Joined by Sean’s daughter Carly, a microbiologist, and her fiancé Ryan, a man who’s not what he appears to be, Sean and Gregor take the fight to the very heart of the creatures’ existence. The streets of Washington, D.C. offer the backdrop for this epic struggle between good and evil, between life and death, and between redemption and ruin. The threshold will open when the stars of the Pleiades achieve their final alignment, and hell will surely follow.

This is not the first book I read by Douglas L Wilson. I must say this is a very different title. There is one thing though that links them all, they are page-turners.

The book keeps the same pace until the end but Wilson knows how to keep your attention.

There is one aspect I especially loved and that is the developing of the characters. Realism and a brushstroke of sarcasm draw their personality.

The author is a master of swimming between horror and thriller. The first part of the book it's a bit slower but it increases the speed of the events at the right moment.

The storyline is so complex. Two families join forces to stop the destruction of the world by two old creatures. Among these, different threads cross roads with them, making the jumps between stories rampant and beating. He has created a world of fire and countdown for you to escape, just as any other character in the book. It completely surrounds you.

It's also true that I couldn't put it down. You need to keep on turning pages. Douglas L Wilson never disappoints and his work has a huge embrace by the reading community.

This is not an extreme horror book, but it delivers in giving you chills, it really speeds up your heartbeat during several scenes.

Nothing further from wanting to reveal anything from the thread, you'll run through several twists —you should check it out by yourself.

With his prior books, "Affinity's Window" and "Awakening" he showed off what an amazing writer he is. In reviews on his other books, I had called him a brilliant, spotless author, but now I can say he is a writer extraordinaire. I can only say go and enjoy it by yourself.

The Alignment by Douglas L. Wilson is a modern Sci-fi/horror set in the year 2012. Detective Sergeant Sean Dunne shot and killed an unarmed man. It led to the destruction of his family life and a steady decline in his career due to his drunken ways. The only thing keeping him on the police force is that he trained most of his superiors. But even that won't save him any longer. In order to save his career, he takes on a seemingly impossible case. There is a murderer on the streets of Washington DC and he must find him or lose everything he’s worked for. And when he meets his only witness he soon realizes that there may be more to the murderer than he initially thought. Only their electric connection keeps Sean from dismissing Gregor Innescu’s claims outright especially when Greg starts talking about vampires and an age-old battle involving his ancestors.
I enjoyed the setting and characters in The Alignment. Douglas L. Wilson takes the classic vampire and gives him a new spin that makes for a chilly tale. The vampires in this story are no reanimated corpses. They are aliens who crave human blood. They are unique yet stay true to the myth in some areas. It is a scary story that has some interesting sub-stories that make it very entertaining. The dynamic between the characters was amazing, especially between Dunne and Ryan. There was humor to lighten the dark scenes. For anyone who likes to read stories when humanity’s existence is threatened by invasion this is the book for you.

Fangs for the great read!

A wonderful read. I’ve always totally enjoyed a good read on vampires. And to be a good read, it needs to have something that grabs my attention and keeps me turning the pages. Douglas Wilson has done this by, to me, creating an inventive and innovative take on the vampire origins. The characters are realistic and help bring the story from good to great. There’s always something happening that keeps the read going at a great pace. Plenty of tension with the right dosage of horror.
Will we hear more from Baines and Dunne Investigation and Security? I, for one, sincerely hope so!
Thoroughly deserving of five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ tension filled stars.

I really really enjoyed this book. As stated above, it is a page turner you don't want to put down! The way this author delivers this tale of Monsters and Vampires is not only genius but enthralling (no pun intended). It had me believing I was part of the team and literally no stone was left unturned. I also loved how he told the tale through the ages and how the "pair" came to meet! I am just awed. I recommend this book to all of you horror and paranormal fans.

If you like vampires out of the ordinary, characters which have multiple layers, then this book is for you.

Mr. Wilson's book is everything I am looking for in a story. A well-thought-out plot, good and bad guys and everything in between. Multiple layers in the story, that are easy to follow, because the writing is that good.

It is the third published book by Mr Wilson, and I cannot wait for the next book, whatever it may be!
