Warning: This PNR slow burn RH contains dark themes. The book contains substance abuse, violence, swearing, PTSD, sexual assault, sexual themes (+18), and an array of other dark subject matters. This book does end on a cliff hanger but book 2, Broken House, is already published. Note: this book is re-branding and re-publishing of a book that was published in March 2019. None of the plot has been adjusted, only formatting and edits.

Just remember to love cats... that's not negotiable.
Being literally hammered with the same detail over and over again.
we get it, she's a siren and no one can love her without manipulation. We hear that almost every single page. It was exhausting. I also feel the rape was just used as a plot drive and really had no bearing on the story other than to shock.
I also didn't believe that Dean who is 21 year old is a faculty member in their high school, I have read several books like that now. He wasn't a savant or anything so I don't know why he's faculty.
Reread this since I forgot to reivew last time. Dark and defeatist... that's Lorcan before she gets her guardians. Her power affects people and she becomes what they want. Tends to cause obsessive behaviors. Thinks she and her brother can't be loved authentically because of their powers. Want to die to stop everything. Does everything to try to die until she gets her guardians and then is high on life. Gets some origami in her school locker with writing that says "you ruined me." Is warned on cosmos that someone is after her and she needs to fight and stick with her guardians. Gets closer to guys. Slower burn.
Lorcan - FMC, does lots of drugs, believes no one can love her, past abuse / PTSD, parents possibly star and water elves aka sirens meaning they become whatever someone else needs, violin
Dean - alpha lion, ruthless, protective Rhett - second / beta lion, kinda fun Cash - enforcer, leopard, rage issues Desmond - jinn, King of Smoke and Master of Illusions Adriel - elven heritage, powerful, King of Nightmares, king of night is peaceful
Toris - ex-boyfriend, abusive, demon prince, let's Momon hurt Lorcan Hayden - photographer, stand in fake boyfriend, friend, jinn, handles her media stuff
Definitely recommend because I liked it a lot. Can't wait for the next books. Cus cliffhanger! Lorcan and Cormac were taken to hell and meet some guy named Felix who may be another prisoner?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Going into this book you'll need to have an open mind about the mythology, it is set in the same world as the Red Masques and Vengeance but you dont need to read those to enjoy this as there are some new supernaturals introduced and no real crossover ( But those 2 series are awesome and should defo be read)
This book was strange, I love how vague the synopsis is. I normally tend to skim it to avoid spoiling anything for myself. For me personally its best going into this book half blind but if you want some idea what its about below are some mild spoilers
There's alot of growling and purring and overall possessiveness so if that's your thing you'll love the guys.
This book feels heavy esoteric in regards to the explanation of some of the universe related things, very vague i know but like i said its best to go in half blind.
It does end on a cliffhanger but overall i really cant wait for book 2
Something was missing for me with this book. I think, in part, I was frustrated with Lorcan and her lack of agency. I realize she had a terrible experience being abused and controlled--but she also has an immense amount of power just sitting there, untapped. She had a spectacular childhood filled with loving parents, riches, security, and doting friends. Her depression and desire to die, to numb the pain through drugs, and generally self-destruct was just not appealing to me as a reader. I think this is more a lack of "reader chemistry" than anything. While I love reading about flawed characters, I have a hard time with characters who feel sorry for themselves when they really do have it all: she's rich. Beautiful beyond imagination. Powerful. And has a harem of men who are obsessed with/in love with her (in spite of her not realizing it).
I found the mystery of her power far more interesting as a narrative point, but it was barely focused on...to "out there" to really be grasped (stars screaming? planets dying? what???). I wish it were better explained. Maybe we got a few more dream sequences. Maybe her pain manifested in a more physical way than just her passing out?
There seemed to be a lot of missed opportunities, plot holes, and overall a fundamental lack of chemistry between Lorcan and her guys and between me (the reader) and this book. I'll likely not be picking up the next book.
4,5 stars holy mama what a emotional rollercoaster this has been, i am so happy that the second book is already out cuz if not i would be a emotional wreck and be on the floor crying my heart out! I liked how raw and gritty these characters is, i find the most broken characters the most interesting and i just love how they get my feelings in play I really liked Lorcans & Cormacs relationship, even tho they are twins it does´nt mean that they are the closest of the closest. i love how much they care bout each other even if it´s not in a healthy way ( like they see each other as the last in a dying race) I jump to the next book right fucking now bitches Sinclair can you please release the third book as well ;)
Enjoyment factor for me personally was higher, but upon reflection this was a 4 star book.
I really enjoyed this, who h is funny because there are lots of things I might not usually tolerate, but none of it bothered me here.
I don't know why I find reading about characters with addictions fascinating. One of my favourite heroines ever from a book is a high functioning drug addict, and while Lorcan wasn't anywhere near as fascinating as Chess, I still found her interesting.
Lorcan is a complete mess. She realised what sort of creature she was at 15 and so ran away with her twin brother and abandoned her friends because she thought it was the only way they could all move on in light of her revelation. On the three years she's been gone she has suffered sexual, physical and emotional abuse and self medicates to deal with the burden of the creature she is and to avoid dealing with the trauma of what has happened to her. She longs to die, just to escape her existence, but as a immortal being she hasn't managed to find a way to do it yet.
When she is forced to move back to town she reconnects with five guys from her last and revelations come to light baiut what she is, why she left, what has happened to her and how she can try and move on.
I liked the guys. They were a mix of creatures and all distinct from one another, although they could have a little more characterisation, by usual RH standard it was pretty good. It is sort of insta lovey, but only because of the previous connection she had with them before she left, but there's still lots of ground work to go in the relationships. As a Survivour of sexual assault, nothing goes beyond kissing in the book, which fel right.
The world building is also quite interesting in the detail of what she is and the mixture of the different supernatural creatures.
This book won't be for everyone, but it was just the sort of thing I like to read. Despite some issues and possible inconsistencies, it didn't bother me in light of my enjoyment factor. It reminded me of how much I enjoyed Stunich's Allison in Underland series, which was far from perfect, but one of my favourite RH's because its just my cup of tea!
Wow, I came across this author by chance and I am glad that I picked this book to read. It was riveting, intense, and sad. There were definitely years shed. It was well written and will suck you in from the first page. Lorcan has come back home and she dreads it. She soundtracks the fact that she will have to face the guys. Dean, Rhett, Cash, Desmond and Adriel know that something is wrong with Lorcan and will help her anyway they can. Lorcan deals with pain by partying and being high to numb the pain. She tells the guys that they can never love her or vice versa. There is a point in the book that reveals why she does what she does and the guys don't like it. However, her true nature is revealed. Can the guys help her? Show her that she can be loved? Will she get the choice?
There is a lot of emotions that go one throughout the book. It does get dark and twisted so if that is your thing then I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed.
I have read what is currently out for the Red Masque series and I loved it so when I saw this book, I was eager to read it. I was a little concerned because I am not the biggest fan of dark reads. I don't want all happiness and sunshine but I also don't want to feel bleak and depressed for the duration of the read. I am happy to say that even though there was a lot of dark themes which caused feelings of hopelessness it wasn't unrelenting. The darkness was broken, a lot, in my opinion which was great. I enjoyed the uniqueness of the storyline which seems to be a thing with this author. I recommend this book but beware of triggers!
Lorcan (FMC) and her brother - Cormac are back after unexpectedly leaving and telling no-one 3 years ago. Being back brings plenty of complications especially for Lorcan. One of which is the guys that she left behind - Dean, Rhett, Cash, Desmond and Adriel. Now thats shes back in their lives the dynamic changes between all of them. I loved all of the characters in this book. They were all well rounded with their own problems and anxieties that we slowly find out about as the book progressed. Its dark in places, with a bit of heat (but its a slow burn) and a cracking cliffhanger ending. I loved it
When I started reading this book, I was immediately pulled into the story and just couldn't stop reading. Lorcan and her twin brother Cormac think that no one can love them, or even like them because of who they are and what their powers do. So they just disappear from the only friends they thought they had. This book does have a lot of darkness in it, but also has a lot of good as you read about the struggles that Lorcan goes through during herself discovery. I really am intrigued as to what happens next since she has found ones that can help
I tried my best to finish this book but after almost 70% I still don't feel any connection with the FMC and the guys. The way the story is told just sounds wrong to me. I don't like the storyline, too much "cosmos things" that aren't well integrated and cut the flow in my opinion. The world building lacks some details... Well, I got bored and prefer focus my energy on another book. Sorry!
This book was a very emotional read for me... Lorcan's pain is palpable and it left me torn and heartbroken at times. This is definitely darker than other books I usually read, but as always, the author does compensate that darkness with a set of amazing and protective men!
Absolutely amazing. Lorcan believes no one can love her after being abused for the past year or so but she’s wrong. So well written you feel like you are the one going through these things. Every book by m Sinclair I’m amazed by how well she becomes the character so excited to see where this series goes and where she goes as an author.
Ugh! Lorcan’s story may be the most heartbreaking one yet. I love this world and all the characters and interlude bling stories. Her men are perfect for her but the amount of pain just cuts right through you.
DNF. Attempted to get through it but just couldn’t continue. It wasn’t for me. I’ve read this author before and have found books to be a hit or miss for me. I just didn’t connect with any of the characters for this one, especially the FMC.
I absolutely loved this so much!! The writing style of M. Sinclair is one that I find myself enjoyed every damn time she comes up with a story. I believe she has found a fan for life. I always find myself wondering what she can possible come up with next. Having said that, Horror of Your Heart is not what I expected. I was looking for a dark romance and yeah I got that. But you don't expect from these types of reads is for it to have such a great plot with a well written story. The female lead Lorcan was so not what I was expecting. She is dark, and gives zero f's. She has had it hard, and as the story went along I got to know her better. Understood her choices she makes. The guys, oh yeah, Alpha all the way. I loved every single one. I love a good alpha male and there is an abundance in this story.
Overall if you are looking for a dark themed Rh fantasy romance that will leave you having read a freaking awesome read. Check this story out. You will become a fan of M. Sinclair I Guarantee it!!
Also note that there is some things that may be a trigger for you as there are some dark themes, very dark. If you are into these kinds of reads, like me, then yeah dive right in. It is one of the top darker romances I have read.

Blurb:
I have to go home. It’s been three years since we left, and now my brother and I have to return to Arizona for Senior year. We left in the middle of the night for L.A when we were fifteen, when we discovered that we weren’t what we thought we were. When we realized that we could never be truly loved. So I left them behind, the five boys who were my everything because I knew it wasn’t real.
I became a model and dove into my music while spending the rest of my time partying and burying my mind under numerous drugs. I’m back and the men are demanding answers. Answers I can’t give them with the shadow hanging over me. Toris won’t let me go. He followed me from L.A with his friend who is much worse than he is. Toris just wants to hurt me but Momon wants me dead. I need to stay under the radar and not upset them, but with five men who want to save me, that seems easier said than done.
Review:
This book is dark. It has some really harsh themes and I warn people to make sure to check the triggers before going into it. I, personally, don’t have any for themes like this but the discussions in the book that occur go in depth. Of course, that being said I found a trigger for myself stemming from my Arachnophobia. Something that no one would think to add as a warning, but that scene was … a lot.
I love the premise behind the story and the plot. The book does a great job at setting up the world and explaining it to you in a way that you can understand. The prologue does throw you off the deep in a bit so be prepared to be confused until the end of the first chapter when things start being explained. There was also one part a bit later in the book when Lorcan’s powers/history was being explained that felt a bit overwhelming but it was quickly rectified.
The development for the FMC was gradual. She had been through alot of torture at the hands of her ex boyfriend and we got to experience her struggles with accepting her thoughts about herself were wrong. I like that by the end of the book she’s hopeful but not fully trusting of the new information provided to her. I like that she didn’t just randomly become healed after three years of negative treatment. I hope that it continues in book two, getting to slowly see her healing journey.
Because it’s RH, we get to see five different personalities for love interests. Dean, a Lion Shifter, is the alpha of the group. It doesn’t hurt that he is also the alpha of his pack. Rhett, a Lion Shifter, is the golden retriever energy and beta of the pack. He is upbeat and tries to crack jokes. Cash, a leopard shifter, is the hot head. He is filled with anger that only seems to fizzle out around Lorcan. Desmond,a Djinn, is the quiet one. He kinda fades into the background but is the one who supports Lorcan’s choices the most. Adriel, an elf, is the morally grey “I despise you” to lovers. They all complement Lorcan nicely and give her something she needs to come out of her darkness.
Overall a good start to the series and I’m excited to keep reading it!
If I didn't know this author and trust her process I probably would have DNF'd this book and abandoned the series. However, since M. Sinclair is one of my favorite authors I plan on sticking it out.
Lorcan Louvre (FMC - 18 yo) is a hot mess. She takes any and all drugs she can find and tries to live in her high. She's 100% suicidal and her most fervent wish is to die. Lorcan has been raped and is currently being abused. She's been conditioned to think she's worthless and should give up and die. If you're looking for a light, happy story you're looking in the wrong place, friend.
Lorcan and her twin brother, Cormac, are Sirens. Sirens are mythical and haven't existed in millennia, so the Louvre twins keep that shit locked down tight. Sirens are born from the union of Star Elf and Water Elf. They have powers of both water and the cosmos. Sirens also have powers of compulsion and manipulation. They can't be loved because their nature is to become whatever others need. You need someone to hate? You need someone to abuse? You need someone to make you feel loved? Sirens have no choice but to become what you desire, so any affection felt for them is never real.
At the beginning of the story Lorcan is moving back home. Back to the men she abandoned three years ago when she left without warning.
1) Dean:The Alpha lion shifter. He has always been obsessed with Lorcan and his mission has been to protect her since she was a child. 2) Rhett:Beta lion shifter. He is funny and carefree, he has always loved Lorcan but only ever gave her what she needed, which was a friend. Dean's brother. 3) Cash:Leopard shifter & pack Enforcer. Cash has rage issues. He and Lorcan always had an explosive relationship. They would fight and kiss in equal measure. Dean & Rhett's adopted brother. 4) Desmond:King of Smoke & Master of Illusion. He is a djinn and King of one Demon Realm kingdoms. He is beautiful and caring, but he's powerful and vicious towards his enemies. 5) Adriel:The Nightmare King. He is a powerful Star Elf. He's known about his connection to Lorcan since they met, but has made her think he hates her. He's also obsessively possessive about Lorcan, not that she knows it.

~REVIEW🖋~ The Quick and Dirty: Slow burn dark PNR RH. Immortal elf endures graphic trauma over and over again. Forms a bond with five men from her past who help rid her of the monster who's plagued her for years.
Everyone loves Lorcan, except they don't really. She's an accomplished violinist, model and socialite, but she is also an elf with the natural power to compel and the ability to see what others truly desire. People tend to obsess over her, and she has suffered for years at the hand of a monster who won't give her up. He subjects her to gruesome horrors, over and over again, using her immortality to his advantage. The hopelessness, pain and loneliness she feels leave her wishing for death and she resorts to self medicating to numb her way through life when she fails at suicide. Everything changes when she is called home to Arizona from L.A., and reconnects with her childhood friends. The bond with her five new guardians will challenge everything she thought she knew about her powers, finding love, and her ability to overcome.
An interesting premise that kept me hooked despite the slow burn. I felt like the climax could have used a little more development but the cliffie at the end definitely had me scrambling for book 2, so that somewhat balances things out. It's definitely a dark romance so beware of relationships that are not text book "healthy", but I loved Lorcan's five guys, and I'm willing to bet you will too!

It's only been a year since I discovered M. Sinclair and Horror of Your Heart is another perfect example of why she has quickly become one of my favorite authors. This book was excellent, a wonderfully unique read that totally captivated me. However, that being said there is a lot of trauma in this book and abuse both mentally and physically.
The characters are deep and complex. All of the broken in some way, a little twisted, and as for Lorcan and her twin brother Cormac a whole lot crazy. The twins are in physical and emotional pain so they turn to drugs to help numb the pain. They live a life of partying, music, and drugs surrounded by people who only want to use them, it's a hard life and the only way they know how to survive. The guys that the twins grew up with are back in their lives and obsessive as ever. Determined to stand by the twins and help them figure out what's going on. There are five guys, each different and each holds a connection to Lorcan.
This is one of those types of plots where I didn't know what was going on but it was compelling. I'm a sucker for a good description and Sinclair was on point with the details and mythos for this book. It's pnr rh and there are people with powers, different supernaturals, and other realms but something more was always being hinted at. Readers were purposely left in the dark just to hook them a little bit more. I loved it.
Horrors of Your Heart was a freaking mind trip that was steeped in emotional turmoil. It's a dedication to music and to the stars and cosmos. This is just the beginning of Lorcan's story and more is plenty to come, especially after that cliffhanger Sinclair left readers with. Onward to the next book, Broken House.
My thoughts are all a mess. So, I had this book in my tbr for a while but never got around to reading it. I was actually torn between picking it up and just leaving it in my endless tbrs (mainly because this book had dark elements and I wasn't in the mood for that). Now though, I'm glad I picked it up because- Holy Shit!
Horror of your heart centers Lorcan and her twin brother Cormac. They're both sirens and ever since Lorcan knew what she was, she started to believe that nobody could love her because she was a siren; as sirens have the power of compulsion and people are naturally drawn to them. Hence she thinks that the people around her likes her because they are compelled to her. This leads her to lose faith in herself and she just wants to end it all.
Since being a siren which is born from a star elf and water goddess, it's nearly impossible for her to die. To top the cherry on the cake, she's being abused by her ex-boyfriend and his friend, who are demons.
Later in the book, she realizes that the five guys she knew from her childhood, are not affected by her compulsion. And furthermore, they're her mates. She took some time to believe in the fact, but slowly came to accept it. I loved the relationship between the guys and her. Some of the lines in the book made me swoon. Even the simplest of affections shown by them had me wanting to highlight the entire book.
Now, there are darker elements in the book such as rape, abuse, substance abuse and talks of dying. But apart from that, it's pretty good.
Oh! And how could I forget! This book ends in a cliffhanger.

Horror of Your Heart is the first installment in the Tears of the Siren series by M. Sinclair. This is a gripping dark paranormal reverse harem romance filled with deep complex characters, heartache, and emotional turmoil. I have read most of M. Sinclair’s books and this series is definitely different from her usual storylines. This five star series is perfect for readers that enjoy a kickass but damaged heroine with a harem of overprotective men, slow burn romance, twists, dark elements, and an emotional rollercoaster. This book does end on a cliffhanger but the second book is already published.
Lorcan Louvre is a damaged survivor with years of trauma to unwrap. She believes she is unlovable and finds herself coping with her life by abusing drugs excessively. She has been physically and emotionally tortured by Toris, a demon prince, for many years. Lorcan has no desire to live and is only alive because she can’t seem to die, no matter how hard she dries. Despite the damage and pain, she is resilient and readers will definitely be taken on an emotional journey. Lorcan’s men are Dean, Rhett, Cash, Desmond, and Adriel. M. Sinclair did a great job with the harem and I really enjoyed the slow burn connection each one had with Lorcan.
I binge read this book in one sitting and am already starting on the next book!

Horror Of Your Heart, the first book in the Tears of the Siren series by M. Sinclair was a fabulous start to a new paranormal series full of a diverse variety of unique supernatural characters, a tantalizing plot and epic storyline! Sinclair is a master at world building, and this series is no exception!
Lorcan is a fabulously fierce and complex heroine that I am 100% here for! She and her twin brother Cormac have been away living the life and partying it up and trying to outrun their trauma with drugs and the fast life until they’re called back home for their senior year of high school and things get interesting to say the least when they reconnect with former “friends” and make new connections.
Overall this was a fantastic paranormal RH read and an entertaining dive into an amazing world full of fabulous characters and powers as well as tons of turmoil, trauma, darkness, abuse and emotions galore—so check your triggers if you have them! And while there is a cliffhanger ending, the other books are available so get ready to binge your heart out!
30% in and the same information has been repeated over and over and over. Just because it's different POVs doesn't mean the same information is fresh to us readers.
Lorcan (heroine) is written to be a substance misusing A lister, with supernatural traits. I'm all for the supernatural side but the "I'm so amazing everyone loves me too much" bit, not so much. I just couldn't connect with Lorcan, possibly because I'm not high as a kite.... The vulnerability just didn't shine through for me, I didn't feel sorry for her at all.
Therein lies the problem, that pull one feels when starting to read a story and can't read fast enough, just wasn't there for me. I suppose if you are interested in how celebrities badly behave this could be more palatable.
Not sure if Lorcan is 17 or 18 nevertheless, she's written to have been using for 3 years. Not sure how I felt about that. At some points I actually thought she was way older, then it's like oh she's still a teen. Anyhoo read the triggers and what not.
Cliffhanger got me feeling gutted.... But before that ending a whole bunch of wonderful happens. Lorcan and Cormac are a unique set of twins, but feel alone in the world when they find out the truth of their heritage. So they leave for 3 years where a bunch of painful things happen. They have to return for their senior year and things start to fall into place. Lorcan has been living with so much pain and grief that safe cannot see past it. The guys from her past want to prove her wrong. Without spoiling things though, something happens that shifts things. Lorcan has to decide to believe in a future or to continue down the path of pain. Multiple POVs. Unique shifters/paranormals. PTSD/trauma/drug use/sexual assault. Buildup to steam. Mild at this time. Give this book a read. Put the puzzle pieces together and enjoy the ride. Now for book 2 after that cliffy!!!
M. Sinclair is a mastermind wordsmith, her words and stories continue to amaze me.
This story was fantastic. It was dark, and at times very real and tragic, with mixes of hope and love. Please do keep in mind trigger warnings with this story!
I love Lorcan! This woman has been through some of the most tragic and heart-wrenching things imaginable, but after being free of that darkness she is able to see the hope and happiness that exists. With her men, that truly and genuinely care and love for her, she is able to see the goodness in the world and that there is something to fight and live for.
I also really love the deep bond that Lorcan and Cormac share as siblings. They understand each other in a level that no one can touch. It’s truly beautiful.
I’m honestly so enthralled and can’t wait to se what happens next, even if a little nervous as I have a feeling everything won’t be butterflies and rainbows for Lorcan and Cormac.
"Horror of Your Heart" is a well chosen title for this first book in Lorcans series, because it is not for the faint of heart... Her feelings of hopelessness and despair came through the pages, and my heart broke for the young woman who everyone thought had everything, but lacked so much. I would describe this book as a dark romance, but mostly emotionally dark; the feelings of depression in Lorcan definitely had an impact on me as a reader. Even though this is a paranormal series, it felt very realistic to see Lorcan finally gaining hope again. She found what every person needs when they are severely depressed and lacking all kinds of hope: people who show them love and care without expecting anything in return, just wishing for them to get better and enjoy life again.
I really enjoyed this book, and I can definitely recommend reading it. Just make sure you're in the right headspace when you start..
Lorcan's story is one you have to prepare yourself for. She has resigned herself to the fact that she can never be loved because of the nature of who she is, and for most of the book, she is seeking absolute oblivion. Her pain bleeds off the page. I love that she has a brother who sticks with her, as they are the only ones in each other's lives who know the truth. Facing the guys: 3 cat shifters, a Djinn, and an elven creature, starts out rocky when she comes back to their pride land after being gone for three years with no explanation. But they don't give up on figuring out the mystery surrounding her leaving and her returning. Piece by piece, they chip away at her armor and show themselves to be trustworthy and genuine, and it was amazing to watch Lorcan transform. Then of course, we're hit with a cliffie threatening her happiness. Ready to see how the guys kick booty and take names getting her back!
