From award-winning suspense novelist, Christina Kaye, comes another dark, twisty, suspenseful read.
At a Christmas tree lighting in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, a barefoot, thinly clad young woman runs up to a mounted police officer, frantic and begging for help. She tells the officer her name is Caroline Hanson.
But that can’t be.
Caroline Hanson vanished into thin air ten years ago.
When Detective Mena Kastaros is informed that the victim in one of her first cases as a detective has reappeared, she battles emotions she’s tried futilely to ignore for nearly a decade. Not only was this case important to Mena, but the details of Caroline’s abduction bear a striking resemblance to her own daughter’s kidnapping around that same time. The only difference is that Mena’s daughter was found dead two weeks later, and here sits Caroline Hanson, alive and relatively unharmed.
Mena must use the information she learns from Caroline to track down the man who abducted her—a man who may also be responsible for the death of her daughter.
Now, the seasoned detective will face her demons as she seeks to bring this evil monster to justice. But Mena fears her demons may win, and if she finds the man she’s hunting, she might not be able to allow the legal system sort it out.
Mena must decide which is more important to her…justice…or revenge.
Christina is the author of the award-winning suspense novel, LIKE FATHER LIKE DAUGHTER, as well as many other suspense titles. She lives in Kentucky with her two daughters.
Anyone who thinks the loss of a child, weather kidnapped or killed, have no idea how extremely painful even years later it is. I enjoyed this story, but really disliked Caroline's Mother, she is a selfish money hungry Woman. Felt sort of sorry for the Bad guy his family (cult) really messed with his mind. Narrator does a Wounderful job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.
The story itself was interesting and moved quickly. Almost too quickly. The writing felt a bit too basic and the dialogue did not seem believable at times. Good effort for a new writer.
This is my first book by Christina Kaye and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the suspense and the characters that seemed to jump off the page. Caroline Hanson was only one of the many girls who went missing so why or how did she get away 10 years later? Mena Kastaros was the lead detective who was also a mother to one of those missing girls. But what was it about Caroline's reappearance that doesn't feel quite right? You will definitely be sitting on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what made Caroline special. Mena has lots of issues to work out and Caroline's life isn't quite what it seems. But since this is a mystery you have to read it to figure out the connection between these two women and what the future holds for them.
OH MY HELL! A Thousand Tiny Cuts kept me on the edge of my seat trying to guess as to what was coming next as I was all in from the jump. That means that the twists are all crazily turned out, making the f-bomb dropping at warp speed levels. I'm not about to get into much detail since this is suspense/thriller at it's very best, so going in blindly should be the norm. See, I read the blurb & thought it was intriguing, but I never saw this story coming, and I'm seriously in awe right now. I came late to Christina Kaye's off the chain book party, and I'll be remedying that asap. Detective Mena Kastaros was a fantastic heroine, who was totally relatable and yet, a bad a**. Her journey isn't easy, as she's gone through the fire, and now she has some decisions to be made since she's determined to solve this case. So, in order to see the why of it, whodunit, and how it all plays out, you'll have to hit those one click buttons which I strongly encourage y'all to do so immediately! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This book was not at all what I expected. I love a good dark and suspenseful read, which this story turned out to be plus more. A kidnapped girl, determined detective and one twisted story you don’t want to miss. There were twists and turns I did not see coming and kept me on the edge of my seat. This is one I would recommend and will be checking out more of her books.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, kept me guessing throughout and I enjoyed that some parts made me happy, others made me mad. Questionable ethics at points for the Detective but it was a good read / listen.
I didn't particularly enjoy the narrator, she was a bit too softly spoken for me, I wanted a bit more energy. But it didn't affect the story.
