The Kingdom Of Grape made my giggle! I think younger readers will enjoy this book.
An entertaining and classic tale of good vs. evil. Messenger boy Donnie Drake is in love with princess, Jane Grape. Her father, King Earl Grape has promised his daughters hand to Duke the Red. Plot twist, Jane doesn't like this guy ... not even a little bit ... cancelled! Haha! Will Donnie Drake be the hero Jane Grape needs? Can he rescue her from a life of misery in the hands of the Duke? ...
Favorite line: "You must be mad. Back to your physician boy, and please, have him increase your prescription." Ha Ha Ha!!!!!
Thank you to the author for the gifted copy of this book.
The story was enjoyable for young readers with some marvelous illustrations within the book which were beautifully done. I loved the color theme and the book cover was absolutely well done!
The story was simple and may even be oversimplified. Though it is somewhat a classic tale in the way it was told, some of the words and phrasing were not in the classic style so it takes away from the feeling of a classic story tale set in the Middle Ages. If it just was edited a little more and use those in the framing of the story, dialogue and expressions, it would really hit this book out of the park.
Overall just for the plot and the story which tells essentially about good versus evil, I think that this would be enjoyed by the very young readers as parents and the grandparents read this story out loud.
I didn't like it much, maybe because I am not a kid anymore? :/
I wish that characters weren't that stereotypical. Main hero - poor, but good, princess - nice, but with the naughty side, evil guys - evil guys, king - old and sick. I think even if you write a medieval based fairy tale, ideas are plenty.
I also didn't understand why the class segregation and differences were pushed so hard. "The poor are mistreated by the rich" was the main trope that was eminent throughout the book. Also, the main hero drowns his sorrows in wine, two (well plotted) killings happen - I don't want to wrap kids in a pink blanket and feed them cookies, but all that seemed like a bad example. Also, the wizard was just in time to save the main hero, but not early enough to save the king? Forgiving the killer (who did two well plotted murders, let me remind you), because he was "sick" is quite obnoxious.
The book can also serve as a coloring book. But the black and white pictures have different styles/are drawn by different artists, and I am not sure if that was intentional or just because. I think coherent style would have helped to keep it cohesive.
Writing this novel was a wonderful experience. I hope this book will one day inspire my two beautiful daughters to always follow their dreams. Thank you to all who supported me through this amazing journey.
We meet Donnie Drake in the beginning of the story. It talks about the kingdom he's from: "The Kingdom of Grape". As with anything, The Kingdom of Grape was separated by wealth and stature. Donnie lost his parents when he was young. He moves into a orphanage and lives his life. As a special young man according to the ladies who gushed to King Earl Grape when he would visit. At the age of 18 years old the King gives the okay for Donnie to become a messenger. Donnie is happy and sets off with his horse Pinot to deliver messages to people's doorsteps. One of which is Lady Gates. She's a resident of Grape and holds something special...the ancient seeds of Grape. on his many journeys he also passes by the castle where The King, The Princess, and his son reside. He's head over heels in love with the princess. She's kind and treats all her people equally. But, he knows it could never for the princess is due to marry Duke The Red. After the Duke's father led the army to victory during the Civil Battle. The King and his father made a vow to wed their children. After Donnie rescues Lady Gates from a fire and save the ancient seeds, Donnie also has a run in with Duke The Red. That run in completely turns things around for Donnie and The Princess. But there's two evil people that are ready to do all they have to do to stop the king from making Donnie the next king. Even if it means ending the king's life himself.
I absolutely loved this book even though it was a children's book. The illustrations were so detailed. I loved how the author used the different types of wine names to incorporate them into the story. After all the kingdom produced grapes and wine is made from grapes. It was a cute and heroic story that also focuses on good and evil. Thank you to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to the author for sending me a physical copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I do read books in children's genre but very, very rarely. I think from the perspective of a child, the name and cover of this book are catchy enough to compel them to read.
I honestly enjoyed reading because of the way this story was told. It is not your typical children's fairytale. Both the main characters have a strong will to bring change around them and a heart full of love. Obviously, there's a villain and an evil character and magic. The author did justice to all characters in this story and has weaved a tale for children with a message inside. No, it's not a misleading message. I think the kids will love reading such a positive story and I appreciate the author for writing this book for kids.
Thanks to the author for sending me the pdf in exchange for my honest review. It’s been long since I read a children’s book.
Such a lovely story with a beautiful message. It gives a message of love, positivity and courage. Importance of strong character and to stand with the right to defeat the evil. The bad villain was brought to justice with a little help of magic. The story is beautifully written with simple and easy vocabulary and lovely sentence structure. Our kids should read such books as it will help in their character building and learning the difference between right and wrong.

This children's book is under an hour long in listening length and is set in the fictional kingdom of Grape. It follows a princess who has been betrothed to marry the evil duke as part of a plan to strengthen the royal-ties. However, she doesn't want to marry him and instead her heart is with the kingdom's royal messenger who is also an orphan and commoner. A short tale of the battles between good and evil with some interesting plot twists along the way. It is a simple story-line, the narrator was clear and easy to understand. It was OK for me personally, I do feel like younger readers will enjoy it a lot!
The Author, in exchange of an honest review, sent the e-copy of this children’s fantasy book to me. I could not be more delighted to read the story of a marvelous kingdom, courage, bravery, power, good deeds, a cursed prince who fought the demons of evil and how can I’d not praise our princess Jane Grape, who’s being the most intelligent character to safe her father’s Land and Kingdom, from Duke the red’s devilish plans. I have devoured the book in one sitting last night and have totally enjoyed it to the every bits. A sweet, humorous, classical tale of good versus evil, written in such a charming way that it feels like it is for every age. If you are in the search of something light and fun to read, it is for you. About reading books, I am always over whelm to explore every genre, except self-help. The diary of a wimpy kid, matilda, Arabian nights are my most treasured roller coaster rides of children’s books.

There is a plot when someone knitted a plan to separate Jane and Donnie for the greed of the throne. However, there is always good to fight evil. All the fatal plans of enemy became dust when Dr White’s antidote of whimsical butterflies came to rescue the new prince and princess. PS: This book have some mesmerizing illustrations.
3.5* This is a review of the Audiobook read by David Sweeney-Bear
Story: 3 Performance: 4
The story is really simple and quite short. It's not original, yet it's pretty good. The Kingdom of Grape seems to be a great setting, but it was extremely overlooked by the author himself. I would like to read more stories happening there, and I hope next time we can see the kingdom in full view.
The main problem is that the whole time I felt like I was listening to a summary and not to the actual book. I know this is meant for children, but I still think it was a bit rushed. However, it was very enjoyable.
The performance is accurate and the voice acting of the characters is good enough to enjoy the plot and dialogues. It is clear too, so I'm sure kids are going to understand every word with no problem.
I received this for free in exchange for an honest review
This was such a charming novel for young readers. A wonderful tale with a message that is great for a child's first chapter book.
The setting is the middle ages in a world that revolves around wine production. Even the names of the people are wine or grape releated. There is, of course, a hero, a princess and a villain in this classic fairytale. Our hero, Donnie and his one true love, the princess Jane Grape have to face many trials before finding their happy ending. A tale of magic, bravery and of course, wine. Such a charming fairytale.

First of all, I would like to thank the author for sending me this amazing book in exchange for an honest review!
This book is a middle-grade chapter book called "The Kingdom of Grapes".
It has been a long time since I've read a children's book. Now you might be thinking what a strange name, that's what I thought as well, but this book is not entirely on grapes, although grapes have an important part in this book and no the characters are not talking grapes.
The story begins just like every 'Once Upon a Time' story does. From the few images it had, I believe the writer was imagining the middle ages when he pictured the kingdom.
A kingdom ruled by the great King Earl Grape, which has come out of a civil war. An evil Duke prying on the throne and a prince ignored due to his wicked ways. A young and brave man known for his talent and personality falls in love with the generous and kind princess. Donnie Drake and Princess Jane Grape. In my opinion, it is a story about love as well as fatherhood gone wrong. The evolution of the main character as well as that of the prince was fascinating! I shouldn't give any spoiler.....
Like every story, this one had a twist too. Now here is the fun part and it might be a spoiler too! The villain in the story really shocked me. It really felt like his/her villainy was out of nowhere. The ending was unexpected, I can give you that! But it could have been a little different if the main characters weren't so forgiving and had a huge heart. I was expecting something out of a Grimm Brothers' book. It didn't get bloody, neither did it over complicate things. The story moved fast, every chapter had a goal that it achieved as it continued.
I loved the artwork in the book. It reminded me of the kind of artwork Oxford had in the reading circle books that I had in my course during school years. We would mimic the strange drawings and label them our names. So a little nostalgia here.
I know this doesn't have anything to do with the book review but I have to say I loved the main character's name: Donnie Drake. Drake being also the name of one of my favorite comic book heroes! Tim Drake! so the entire time reading this book I was picturing the red Robin in my head and he did not fit that role 😅 I'm sure he tried his best 😅
Well, that's all for now. I highly recommend this book for children and hope they have a fun time reading this book! In this time of quarantine, introduce your kids to books. Why not start with this one! Read around them or have them read it themselves, about the amazing Kingdom of Grapes!
I read this book with my younger son (age 8), and then our oldest son (age 13) read it on his own. Everyone who read it really loved this story!
As a mom, I enjoyed the short chapters which made it easy for my youngest son to take turns reading with me. My oldest son appreciated the short chapters as well because he was able to fly through the book in one sitting.
The story itself was enchanting and imaginative. It was humorous but also had suspense, which engaged all of us as readers and made for a great family reading experience.
As an adult reading this story, the wine references were great! It made it interesting for me all the while my son was engaged in the fairy tale aspect.
I would definitely recommend this book as a independent reader or a family book to share together. There’s something in it for everyone!!
Thank you so much Raimo for sending me a copy to share with my kids!!
Thank you to the author for my gifted copy of The Kingdom of Grape.
My son and I really enjoyed this story. We read it as his bedtime story and he loved it. It's the retelling of the classic idea of good vs evil and we both thought it would be a sweet series for young readers. There's a hint of magic, which we could all use right now.
I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars because the cover could use some work. Publishing companies are doing an amazing job of creating book covers that speak volumes before we've read a sentence, especially for kids. So at first glance the cover does not intrigue or compel and my son quickly "judged a book by it's cover." He did come around once we started reading.
*I am extremely happy to have the opportunity to support an entrepreneur/self publisher, the thoughts above are my own.
"Grape is not only the name of this kingdom, but also a way of life." . I received The Kingdom of Grape in exchange for an honest review, so thank you for that! First, I would like to say that I love this cover and the grape and wine aesthetic of this story is very unique. The book is a middle grade short story, a classic tale of good vs. evil and was a very enjoyable quick morning read with my tea. . This book would be good for kids starting out with chapter books as it is simple, easy to follow and has pictures to complement each chapter. Donnie Drake is a likeable hero in this sweet tale about a young man following his dream.
Donnie Drake was born/raised in Kingdom of Grape. He lost his parents during a war. They were grape pickers & worked hard every day. Donnie was taken to the Riesling Orphanage. Lady Rose (caregiver) divided the Chardonnay & Merlot Grape fields.
1-day when King Earl Grape (father/widower) came to visit Lady Rose mentioned Donnie’s (18) name. Castle Grape. Donnie (messenger) moved & he/Pinot (horse) love their job. Princess Jane Grape has caught his eye. What would she want with a commoner? King Earl Grape has arranged for Jane to marry Duke the Red (son). Fast forward, it’s time for the wedding but there might be a complication; King Earl Grape has died.
I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.
An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn black/white pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) animal’s storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational presentation (different animals), movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

This is a fun kids story! If you listen to the audio book, it's under an hour and the voice was great!
The story isn't an original by any means but I did enjoy reading a classing storyline. They're classic for a reason, right?
This is great for kids. A princess doesn't want to mary the evil Duke and Donnie, the hero, is there to save the day 👑. It has a medieval type setting and they produce wine, hence the grape names and title 🍇
Overall it was a great listen!
I was given this book in exchange for my honest review!
This is a classic tale of good vs evil told in a chapter format for young readers. Being the Kingdom of Grape there are many references to wine through the local names that adults will recognize and it's a great story to read along with a child. Castles, a dastardly prince, poison, and unlikely hero make this a sweet book for all to enjoy.

I found this gem end of last year and had every intention of reading it sooner 🤣🤣🤣 I get distracted too easily. This is a very cute story that I can't wait to share.
It's a classic tale of a kingdom shadowed by the possibility of a new, evil king. A princess who is strong but needs help to save her kingdom and the story of a young man who becomes the hero he always knew he was.
If you have kiddos or grandbabies you read with, this would make a great addition to those shelves.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobooks of this title.
Yes, a simple true love versus royal duty type tale. However, I cannot see overlooking murder as a good thing, especially a king, and father, but there's a message in there somewhere.
This book is a cool fantasy book for kids and teenagers. I honestly enjoyed buddy reading this book with my son. It’s a book that takes place during the Middle Ages. It’s a classic good against evil. The main character Donnie Drake lost his parents at a young age. He’s put in an orphanage. But Donnie is destined for more. The book takes us on a fun journey of good vs evil. I do recommend it for the young ones out there.
The author have given me a soft copy of the book for free, in exchange for an honest review.
"Only heart ache can create those beautiful tones" by: Raimo Strangis
First of all thank you to the author for giving me this oppurtunity to read and give review to this book.
I really enjoy reading the book, I really like the characters. I think that they are very strong willed, brave and very heroic. I love how the story was told, and it was an easy read. Kids would definitely love to read this, especially if the illustration is really good.
I was just a bit confused with the social structure, and the stereotypes of the book. But other than that this book is great! It brings me back to my childhood, where I enjoy this kinds of fairytales. There are some parts that I think needs a bit more emotion and attachments.
I would recommend this book to any ages, and just sit down and take your time to read this. Remember the merry time when you're just a kid and enjoy some merry story like this fairytale.
Would it be too silly of me to say that I loved this children’s book so much that I am giving it 4 stars? Before you read any further, know that I am rating and reviewing this book keeping in mind the audience it is directed to.
This story begins from the grounds of Kingdom then proceed on to having magical healers and a cursed Prince and then a savior comes and saves the day in the end through Good in his heart. It’s a classic sweet little tale about Good Vs. Evil, woven through plain yet beautiful vocab - albeit simple but so charming - it’s even poetic at times. I wonder how my 7 or 8-year-old self would have felt reading this story. It was about positivity of one’s soul, bravery and valor and that every evil can be defeated if there’s enough good in one person’s heart. I appreciate children reading something so positive hopeful. I suggest you all to get your kids (or the kids in your family) this book if you’re looking for some inspiring bed time stories. Oh and it also has some cute illustrations too.
Synopsis: The Kingdom of Grape is ruled by the great King Earl Grape who has two children, Princess Jane and Prince Peter. Jane is the next in line to get the throne because Peter is an uncanny young man. Jane is betrothed to Duke the Red who is considered as one of the strongest men in the kingdom. But our little princess falls in love with a poor commoner Donnie Drake (told ya, it was a classic). Donnie is the messenger boy who dreams of a family and a steady life. There is a plot to rob the throne of its current King and separate Jane and Donnie. But where there’s a will, there’s a way, right? All the conspiracies are turned to dust when magical butterflies come to rescue those whose hearts are without any evil intentions.
What a great pleasure it was to narrate this charming children's story by the talented Raimo Strangis! A magical, funny, captivating adventure tale for kids and lots of fun for adult grape-lovers too.
Thank you Raimo Strangis for sending me a copy of this book which is perfect for children who are starting to read chapter books.
Without giving the details away, as the name suggests, the story is set in a kingdom that relies heavily on its grape produce. The royal family is crippling and the princess must marry into a family that's not liked by the masses. One day she comes across the man of her dreams and the story begins to develop from there.
The story is fast paced, packed with good, evil and mischievous characters, a bit of magic and lots of twists and turns to keep the little minds engaged.
I read this to my seven year old and I could see that even though she is not a big fan of long stories, she was engrossed and was eager to find out how the story develops. My only criticism is that the writer could have thrown in a subtle moral lesson for the readers.
*this is an honest review without any affiliation with the author and publications.
Thank you so much to the author for providing a free copy for an honest review!
I don’t normally read children’s books, but the title of this book captured my attention and immediately made me think of my personal favorite book Howl’s Moving Castle.
This book is adorable, funny, and can be relatable. It is a story of good vs evil and finding true love and doing everything you can to gain that love.
I love Donnie Drake! He’s just adorable and clumsy, and he has a loyal steed called Pinot! How could I not love him!?
The Princess is fantastic too! She obviously was naughty when she was younger sneaking around the castle, so she knows her way around and has a sword under her pillow! I mean this girl is awesome!
What I really appreciated about this book is that they evil was removed in an unconventional way. One villain was killed in a darker way, but the prince may have ended up being the main villain of the whole story. And the Princess loves her brother so much, that despite all the terrible things he did, and had done to her even, she still loved him and would do anything to help save him.
This book is about love not only between a girl and a boy, but between a brother and sister, and what they would do to gain and keep that love for each other.
Overall, I thought this story was adorable, and would recommend anyone to read it, even if you’re not a child or don’t have kids, because I don’t and I enjoyed it 😊

I was offered a copy of “Kingdom of the Grape” by the author. I gave it to my Niece to read. She really found a love of reading within the last year so I was so excited to let her dive in and see what she thought. She LOVED it!! She was so excited to tell me about all the characters and their stories. After giving me a solid run down she tell me “Is it weird that I want to read it again?!” 😂 It makes me so happy to see her loving to read so much. So huge thank you to Mr Strangis! . So all that said, This fun fantasy book is perfect for any imaginative kids who are getting into chapter books. It’s fun, sweet, exciting, with a nice messaging of forgiveness too. If you have a little one definitely check it out!
*thank you to the author for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
I was fully engaged with the fast-paced and engaging plot. Even though the story is 84 pages, there is plenty of detail and plot twists that leave the reader guessing. (+1)
The world-building is fully established with multiple kingdoms, social hierarchy, and magic. (+1)
The writing style is quick and features names of characters and kingdoms with the names of various types of wine. I did struggle with saying the names of most of the characters in my head like, "Princess Jane Grape." (+.5)
The book is organized and I was never confused. (+1)
I love the dynamic between all of the main characters, especially between Jane and her brother. They drop the story forward with their determination, love, and sense of justice. (+1)
My favorite part was the ending becuase that is when everything came together.
My least favorite part was the names because it slightly altered my reading experience.
If you are looking for a book for your child that is between a beginner reader and a chapter book, this one might be for you.
