All goes well for first Lieutenant Finnegan Walsh in his assignment at Minot AFB in North Dakota with Public Affairs. He spends quality time with his best friend, First Lieutenant Diego Moreno, assigned to Base Security Forces. Finn is content with the peaceful existence at the far north base until one day he stumbles across a poster in the men’s locker room at the McAdoo Fitness Center from a local white supremacist group setting up headquarters in the small town of Glenburn only a few miles north of the base.
The journalist in Finn leads him to an unauthorized investigation where he discovers a military veteran at the root of the problem. Together with Diego, and another unexpected ally, they end up exposing a growing social cancer among the otherwise peaceful communities of North Dakota.
“Why Not Minot?” goes the standard slogan for Air Force personnel receiving their orders to Minot Air Force Base. Many dread the isolated far north assignment with its harsh winters and perceive it as a punishment for something they must have done wrong. Not so for Lieutenant Walsh who grows to love the cold winter, the flat lands and the magic skies of the north.
Yet another decent M-M action-romance based in and around a military base (this time located on US soil) - not Mr Swank's best one to date IMO, but still engaging. MC Finn is a 'non-quite out' team-leader, uptight but nerdishly cute, who's navigating the difficulties of conducting down-low relationships within a small but notoriously gossipy workplace/force. Finn and straight-bestie Diego (base security) are recruited by senior management to help a covert operative to uncover possible white supremacist activity within the base and also in surrounding townships. My only serious quibble would be for better/clearer delineation between different characters' POV within the text. 3.5 stars.
I enjoy the plot lines of all of Jon Swanks books but am surprised at his bad grammar. He needs to return to elementary school to learn the difference between your (possessive) and you're (you are) and their, there, they're!
