The Snowden Family Clambake Company has a beloved reputation in Busman’s Harbor, Maine. Almost as famous is the sleuthing ability of proprietor Julia Snowden, which is why an oyster farmer seeks her out when she’s in trouble.   When Andie Greatorex is robbed of two buckets of oyster seed worth $35,000, she wonders if somebody’s trying to mussel her out of business. Could it be a rival oyster farmer, a steamed former employee, or a snooty summer resident who objects to her unsightly oyster cages floating on the beautiful Damariscotta River? There’s also a lobsterman who’s worried the farm’s expanding lease will encroach on his territory and Andie’s ex-partner, who may come to regret their split. Before Julia can make much headway in the investigation, Andie turns up dead, stabbed by a shucking knife. Now it’s up to Julia to set a trap for a cold and clammy killer . . .  Praise for Sealed Off  “The beautiful landscape of coastal Maine adds local color to two intriguing mysteries.”—Kirkus Reviews

Shucked Apart is the latest adventure in the Maine Clambake Mystery series written by Barbara Ross. I've read all the previous books and in-between novellas in the series, and I'm officially (sadly) caught up. The next one won't release until 2022, and I will anxiously await news of a publication date and title. That said, it's been a wonderful experience, given how much I want to relocate to Maine and how normally well-written the series is.

In this caper, Chris's friend Andie is attacked and robbed, so he asks girlfriend Julia to get involved. She's apprehensive at first, yet when she gets to know Andie, she's onboard. But in the process of befriending Andie, two unfortunate things occur: Julia realizes Chris has been keeping secrets from her, and Andie is murdered. Someone wanted her oyster spawn, to stop her from expanding, and to take over her property. But who would do such a thing? Julia investigates, and by the end of the tale, we've gotten to know one of her uncles, Andie's ex-husband, his new family, and several lobstermen and oyster farmers.

The mystery was good... not too suspenseful or complex, but it had a couple of twists and turns with at least five viable suspects The scenery and descriptions were all great, hence part of my draw to the series. Oddly, there were some repetitious parts, a couple of proofreading misses, and this was about 20% shorter than usual. I don't care much about that stuff when the story is good, as it was here, but it worried me a little bit about the editor's focus this time. Ross always dreams up beautiful tales and wonderful characters, so I'm not going anywhere when the newest is released.

In the meantime, I'll pick up a new series based in Maine, and after I catch up on a few other series, I'll tackle Ross's other mystery series, which I've had my eye on for a while. Hope you enjoyed this one too!

Shucked Apart by Barbara Ross is the ninth book in the Maine Clambake Mystery series and is partially set in the fictional small town of Busman’s Harbor, Maine while the rest of it takes place in the real town of Damariscotta. This cozy mystery features amateur sleuth Julia Snowden who is also the proprietor of the Snowden Family Clambake Company. The author brings mystery, murder, and family drama to his well-written novel.

Julia runs the business side, and her brother-in-law, Sonny, runs the clambake during the tourist season. Chris Durand, Julia’s boyfriend, brings Andie Greatorex to see Julia when Andie is assaulted and robbed of two buckets of oyster seed worth $35,000. Is someone trying to put Andie out of business or is this just a theft? Who could it be? Why?

Julia’s character is well developed, but I did not connect with her. The other characters did not feel as fully developed. However, that could be because this is book nine in the series and the depth and growth occurred in prior books.

On the other hand, the author did a great job of transporting me to oyster capital of New England. I got a great feel for the build up to tourist season that many of the businesses go through in the area as well as the hard work of oyster farming. The reader also gains insight into how oyster farmers are perceived by others as well as the processes they use. The setting felt authentic.

The plot is well done with several suspects and red herrings, requiring the protagonist to sift through the lies and omissions to solve this mystery. This is a solid whodunit. Themes include murder, family relationships, gullibility, trust, and much more. The end of the book includes several recipes. I would have liked more resolution in one area of Julia’s life, but this is a thread that can be used in the next book.

Overall, this book was entertaining, fun, and well-paced. I don’t usually start a series with number nine and that may be why I did not fully connect with Julia. While this novel can be read as a standalone, I am sure that reading the earlier books would provide additional background and character development as well as add richness to the reading experience. I want to go back and read them. If you like cozy mysteries set in small towns and filled with lots of misdirection, then I recommend that you check out this series.

I won a digital copy of this book from Kensington Books and the author in a Goodreads Giveaway. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way. This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine.

This ninth book in the Julia Snowden cozy mystery series opens with Julia discovering that “Andy” who her boyfriend Chris plays poker with every week and can’t stop talking about is actually “Andi.” Oh dear. This can’t be good. Andi has experienced a theft on her oyster farm and needs help catching the culprit. Once again in this series we get to learn something unique to Maine—all about oyster farming and the conflict between oyster farming rights and lobsterman’s rights. I was intrigued. In addition to the mystery to solve, there was also some development with regards to a personal relationship in Julia’s life.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

It’s almost time for The Snowden Family Clambake Company to open for the season. Manager Julie Snowden should be hiring employees and making sure everything is in place to open but her boyfriend Chris has asked her to help one of his poker-playing friends. First, Julie was to cover her surprise that his friend, Andie Greatorex is a woman, and then she has to figure out why Chris thinks she can help her. Andie is an oyster farmer and she was attacked and robbed of 2 buckets of oyster seed (spat) valued at $35,000. There are several would-be suspects but before Julia has time to do much legwork she finds Andie dead. The suspects remain the same but Julia feels time is of the essence if she is going to catch the cold-blooded killer.

I have never eaten an oyster, the sliminess just turns me off, so I never really thought about where oysters came from or were cultivated. Ms. Ross gives us a delightfully detailed account of what it means to be an oyster farmer. It was very interesting but while I am sure many love the delicacy, no, I still won’t be eating any. I like many other forms of seafood so I can handle missing out on a few oysters. Ms. Ross also shines a light on how important tourists are to these small towns.

I really enjoyed catching up with Julia before the season starts. Because of the timing, all the usual characters do not make an appearance or just make cameos but a major change does occur within these pages. A change that made this reader pretty happy. We are introduced to several new characters and the author does an excellent job making them relevant to the mystery.

The murder this time takes place in Damariscotta, not too far from Busman’s Harbor. Ms. Ross’s descriptions really make every setting come alive. I was intrigued by several places including a few homes. Life along the river was very easy to visualize.

This was another complex mystery full of red herrings and surprises. The pace started a little slow but picks up nicely as the story continues and Julia starts to eliminate suspects. Julia is a fine sleuth and tagging along with her this time was extra fun. We both figured out the real culprit at the same time and almost too late.

I love the way Barbara Ross tells a story. She draws you in with the fantastic characters you have become invested in over the series and she tangles them up in a complicated mystery that holds you tight until the final page.

This is one of my favorite series. Shucks, Shucked Apart is a captivating cozy that takes readers on a mini-vacation to the beautiful coast of Maine. I have enjoyed every trip and plan to return as soon as the next book is released.

Julia Snowden should be focusing on getting the last-minute tasks done to open the summer season of her family’s clambake, but when her boyfriend asks her to help his friend, Andie, Julia can’t resist. Andie runs an oyster farm not too far away, and someone has just stolen $35,000 worth of new inventory from her. Andie seems reluctant to give Julia any suspects, however, so it isn’t that surprising that Julia hasn’t made much progress when she finds a dead body. Is the robbery connected to the murder?

This book does a great job of introducing us to oyster farming without slowing down the mystery itself. I learned quite a bit while also getting the foundation for the plot. The pace does build as Julia gets closer to figuring things out, and the climax wraps everything up for us perfectly. This series is often on the slim side, and this is no exception. While the suspects are strong and the mystery complex, the supporting players aren’t as prevalent as they might be. While I did miss them and wouldn’t have minded a sub-plot that could have included them, it’s a minor issue. The book leaves us with five recipes that seafood lovers will want to try. As always, this book left me anxious to find out what will happen to Julia next. Fans won’t be disappointed.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book.

Julia Snowden is preparing for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend and the advent of tourisy season for the Snowden Family Clambake. Before the craziness begins, her boyfriend, Chris, asks her to look into a theft and harassment that one of his poker buddies is experiencing. That leads to many complications including murder. Solid entry to an excellent series with tons of info about oysters and oyster farming. OK to read as a standalone, but I would recommend starting earlier in the series if possible. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 1/4 stars. A fun and satisfying story with well developed characters and realistic relationships plus a good mystery. Throw in lots of authentic flavor and atmosphere and you have a winner.

Ross takes us to visit a town outside of Busman’s Harbor, another tourist favorite Damariscotta, ME. Lobster is not the sole king and vies with oysters for the hearts and stomachs of people. There was a lot of interesting information about the oyster business without it feeling like a lecture. She does a good job of describing the town, identifying some real institutions (shout out to Sherman’s bookstore and the library) and even when she changes a few names it is easy to identify the inspirations for places. But it is the people that she populates her stories with, in Busman’s Harbor or Damariscotta, that makes the stories really worth reading.

So, lean back, relax and enjoy. You might not be in Maine but this is the next best thing.

A Maine Clambake Mystery #9

Always a pleasure to be back in Busman’s Harbor, Maine. The Snowden Family Clambake Company is gearing up for the season and Julia Snowden is busy preparing and hiring. Julia is also a bit of a crime solver on the side, so when one of the oyster farmers, Andie, comes to her for help, of course, she is going to say yes.

Robbed of two buckets of oyster seed, Andie isn’t sure if someone is trying to sabotage her business or one of the summer people who don’t like seeing the cages. Before Julia can even ask a few innocent questions, Andie is dead and there are more than enough suspects to go around.

As she starts digging into the lives of the residents and her own family, she may not live to see another clambake!

This series keeps evolving and adding new characters which keep it fresh and all of us on edge!

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

It's almost time to open for the summer, and our amateur sleuth is asked to investigate happenings in another town, by her boyfriend who before always disapproved of such things. There's an assault, a theft, a murder, and assorted other complications, including a break up.

To be honest, I thought the sleuth should have left her boyfriend the last book I read. She should find a super cop boyfriend who can't find an apple in a bunch of oranges like most of the other cozy protagonists.

Shucked Apart by Barbara Ross is the 9th A Maine Clambake Mystery. It can be read as a standalone for those new to the series or may have missed a book or two. Reading the earlier books, though, will provide more background on Julia, her family, friends, and the business. It is May and the season has not begun yet in Busman’s Harbor, Maine. Julia Snowden is surprised when her boyfriend, Chris Durand brings his poker buddy, Andie Greatorex to visit her (where she learns Andie is a woman). Julia is told that Andie was attacked and robbed of the oyster larvae (spat) she had just purchased. Andie would like Julia to use her sleuthing skills to see if she can uncover the guilty party. This is a different type of case for Julia. She does have some extra time on her hands, so Julia agrees to do a little digging. Julia questions several people including Andie’s ex-partner (business and personal), a lobsterman, a rival oyster farmer, and a neighbor of Andie’s. Julia has barely begun her investigation when Andie is murdered. The mystery provides us with a couple of suspects, a red herring, and subtle clues. There was a nice surprise in this whodunit. It was nice to catch up with Julia before the busy season begins. We do see Chris, but the other regulars are largely absent (one or two only briefly mentioned). I must admit that I am not a fan of Chris’s. He is a nice man, but he does not seem like the right person for Julia. I could tell the author did her research on oyster farming. It was interesting learning how oysters are raised and harvested (not that I would ever eat one). I enjoyed the beautiful descriptions of Maine as well and I liked that we left Busman’s Harbor to visit nearby Damariscotta. We also learn about the rivalry between lobsterman and oyster farmers plus how residents feel about the oyster beds. I thought Shucked Apart was easy to read with a likeable main character. The pacing varied in this story. While Shucked Apart is not my favorite book in this series, I still enjoyed my visit. Shucked Apart is a charming tale with oyster offspring, rival lobsterman, employee problems, lease barriers, and sly sabotage.

Book nine in the Maine Clambake Mysteries has Julia investigating the robbery of one of Chris' poker night friends. Andie, the owner of her own oyster farm, had $35,000 worth of baby oysters, and though she claims she has no enemies, Julia discovers just how many people resented her farm and her attempts to expand her business. I easily got caught up in the growing mystery and the suspects, along with Julia's responsibilities getting her family's clambake business started for the season and working through some things with her relationship with Chris. I found myself quite surprised more than one time in this story, and already eager for the next book to see what happens in Julia's life. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a great mystery, or who has a deep love of all things Maine. This can easily read as a standalone, but if you think you'll like this book, why not just start at the beginning and follow Julia and her friends and family's lives in Busman's Harbor, Maine?

I received an advance copy of this book. This review contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

Shucked Apart is a welcome addition to the series written by Barbara Ross.
Julia and her boyfriend Chris are living in Busman’s Harbor, Maine, and they are both getting ready for another busy summer.
When Chris introduces his poker buddy Andie to Julia, she finds herself wondering why she didn’t know Andie was a female. It seems to her that Chris still closes himself off to her.
It seems that Andie needs some help because someone doesn’t want her to continue with her oyster business. Before Julia can help, she finds out that Andie is dead, and she finds herself wrapped up in another murder investigation.
I really liked this book, and I was glued to the pages from beginning to end.
I can’t wait to see what is in store for Julia next.

I cannot pace myself with this series. As soon as I start reading one, I am immediately sucked in and the pages turn themselves, because I simply have to know what's happening next with Julia. When I wasn't busy performing necessary tasks associated with adult responsibilities, my face was in this book, which I devoured in two days (and about a half hour before bed on the first night). It would have been faster if I could have just parked myself on the couch...and believe me, I would have if I could have!

What I liked about Shucked Apart:
This series knows who it is
- I know exactly what I am getting when I pick up one of the books in this series. I know the tone. I know the characters will have a surprising level of depth, even if I've only just met them. I know that the setting will come alive in the quite capable hands of Ms Ross. I know that I'm going to get a satisfying mystery but also that Julia's personal story will move forward as well. Nine books and a bunch of holiday novellas in, this series has not disappointed me by trying to be something it isn't, which to be frank, is a charming and engaging cozy mystery series.
The mystery - While a bit shorter than her earlier full-length installments, this was nonetheless a complete case, with several moving parts, plenty of possible suspects and motives, and the obligatory moment of tension. I didn't feel like anything was missing; I am not sure fleshing anything out further wouldn't have bogged the story down, actually. I remained curious throughout the duration, and by the reveal, I had narrowed it down to two suspects (one of whom was correct) but hadn't completely unraveled it for myself. I was also really pleased with the way the case itself was constructed, which wasn't the typical format for this genre.
Julia's personal story arc - This actually caught me more off guard than the mystery itself. And while I felt as blindsided as Julia did, her reactions were so identifiable and sincere, I have to applaud the author. My heart sank with Julia's and I wanted to hug her. I hope she gets it sorted out and that we don't move down a...shall we say...trite path? But at least the route we've taken to this point has been a slow build and makes sense to this portion of the overall storyline. Gosh, I really cannot say more without treading dangerously close to spoiler territory. Trust that you'll know it when you see it and it is handled well.

What I didn't care for:
I'll just be over here laughing
- I am laughing because I have a particular template I have constructed for my reviews that I use in all but the rarest of cases (books that I truly cannot break down into what I liked vs what I didn't). But I just have no complaints. Except maybe its length. But as I already stated, the length worked for the story told; I am just sad my visit to the Clambake is over when I want to simply linger on here indefinitely. In the interest of full disclosure, the only reason this gets four stars rather than five is my own personal reasoning -- I reserve five stars for books that profoundly impact me in some way -- but a four by no means diminishes the quality of what I've read; long ago, I determined for myself that no matter how much I thoroughly enjoy them, cozies didn't rate five stars (even the best ones don't impact me like that). But! If I were rating cozy mystery series among their peers, this is by far a five-star series.

Beating a dead horse on the topic of length one more time as I wind this down (and the irony is not lost of me that my idiom of choice includes a dead body while I am discussing books that often include murder mysteries). I've observed that over the duration of this series, the full-length installments have slowly diminished in length; in order from books one through nine: 378 pages, 304, 313, 314, 297, 280, 265, 246, and finally this one clocking in at a mere 231 pages. I am hoping that this might just be a case of the author becoming more efficient at telling her stories and not a case of running out of motivation to tell them, because I adore Julia and Busman's Harbor, and I am by no means ready to bid them farewell!

Shucked Apart is the 9th book in the Maine Clambake Mystery series by Barbara Ross. In this book I was pleased to meet the proprietor of The Snowden Family Clambake Company, Julia Snowden of Busman’s Harbor, Maine. Busy preparing and hiring staff for the new summer season, Julia helps out when her boyfriend, Chris, comes to her about poker friend Andie Greatorex, the owner of the Great River Oyster Farm in Damariscotta, not far from Busman's Harbor. Andie is having problems as $35,000 worth of baby oysters have been stolen. The police think its a simple robbery but Andie thinks it's an act to sabotage her business. Julia is shown around the Great River Oyster Farm the next day and learns a little about the other oyster farms and lobstermen in the area. But Julia barely gets the chance to start poking around as Andie receives a ransom note and when she next turns up at Great River Oysters, Andie's boat is nowhere to be seen. Then Julia makes a deadly discovery; Andie's body is bobbing around in the water.

Although book 9 in the Maine Clambake Mystery series, this can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. With a compelling plot, drama aplenty, a great bunch of characters, and oodles of mayhem added to the mix, this was a fantastic read that kept me on my toes. The writing style of Barbara Ross was a good fit for me. Trying to unravel the mystery in the pockets of Julia was lots of fun and I welcomed the comfortable pace as well as the neatly packaged ending. I would like to backtrack and devour the eight books I've missed in this series as I thoroughly enjoyed Shucked Apart and I'm game to see what adventures befall Julia and the Busman's Harbor crowd, next. The book leaves the reader with five recipes that seafood lovers will salivate over, and I'm keen to try out the Lobster Mashed Potatoes. Very highly recommended.

Shucked Apart by Barbara Ross is an excellent cozy mystery and it is the 9th installment in the amazing series: A Maine Clambake Mystery.

I have loved this series since the first book. While one can read this as a stand-alone and pick up this series at any point, to truly love this series, one should really savor all the books that come beforehand. It is a tried and true series that just keeps getting better as it ages.

Here we see Julia Snowden at it again as she is asked to help find out who is at the bottom of a theft involving Andie, a fellow female business owner. After Andie ends up being discovered dead, Julia doesn’t hesitate to help find the culprit.

I really enjoyed the murder/mystery plot as always. Ms. Ross has a way of creating an excellent dialogue, imagery, and a homey feeling of each book always giving me the feeling of visiting old friends. This book is no exception. I loved visiting the Snowden Family Clambake again. I really enjoyed my stay and am looking forward to the next book in one of my most treasured cozy mystery series.

This is one of my favorite series - I love the characters and the setting. The mysteries are always front and center but there is just enough of the community interspersed to make it a good cozy mystery. I loved the glimpse into oyster farming and how they are perceived. The drama with Julia slowly built up and left me sad at the end but I will definitely continue with the series.

This is a new to me author and the ninth book in the Maine Clambake Mystery series.
I have wanted to visit Maine and learn more about the area there and this is a wonderful first step in doing so and makes me more excited to start planning my trip there with the wonderful descriptions of coastal Maine included.
Oyster farming is something I've really never thought about but many in the Maine area make their living doing it. It was fascinating learning about the different types of oysters, the quality of them and how they grow and are farmed.
Great character development as the main character is working on solving another murder mystery.
A;so included in the back of the book are some delicious sounding recipes. Books that have recipes that go with the story really make it for me.

Aw shucks - no sex, violence or foul language!! What a treat. I learned a lot about oyster farming and just saw on my local website that Sarasota is creating Oyster Gardens right here in our bay. Thanks to the book I knew what they were talking about. I could never eat one but I am glad to see they are thriving and keeping our waters clean.

This is Book #9 in the series and I enjoyed it along with all the others. Just a good clean read. I’m glad to see that Julia is having doubts about Chris, I never liked him!!
The next installment will see if she sticks by her guns, I hope so👍

I am a fan of the Maine Clambake Mystery series by Barbara Ross and even though I haven't read all of them I feel that I know the Snowden family quite well and the series is more than just "books" to me. So when I tell you that I had to stop and gather myself when I finished Shucked Apart, the ninth book in the series, BELIEVE ME.

In Shucked Apart the Snowden Family Clambake Company, as well as all of Busman Harbor, Maine, is getting ready for the summer season. Even though Julia is confident that things are on track, she still has to hire the crew and finalize everything before they kick off the season. So she really doesn't have time for her boyfriend, Chris, to throw a wrench into the mix. Well Chris throws more at her than just a small wrench. He introduces Julia to a member of his poker playing group, Andie, who owns an oyster business and she was just robbed of 2 buckets of oyster seed worth $35,000. Andie is at the advantage of knowing more about Julia because Chris brags about her during their poker games, however, Julia had though when she heard the name Andie that she was a he. While she gets over than fact quickly she finds that Andie is a very hard working motivated business woman and agrees to help her find out who robbed her of the oyster seed. Unfortunately before she can come to any solid conclusion, Julia finds Andie in the water by the oyster farm dead with a knife stuck in her neck.

Julia knows that she should let the detectives in charge of the case handle the case but there are things that don't add up to her and she had helped them in the past so...... Luckily Julia knows Lieuteant Binder and Sergeant Flynn from Major Crimes so she can keep investigating....or is that unlucky for her ?? Either way she has a list of people that wanted Andie gone for various reasons, unfortunately one of them is her uncle Bob.

Julia is pretty confident that her uncle had nothing to do with Andie's murder and robbery but she will not play favorites and will go where the investigation takes her even if she isn't "on the case" and should be helping her brother-in-law Sonny go through the piles of employee applications and concentrate on the family business.

Readers by now know that once Julia sets her mind on something she goes at it full throttle and in Shucked Apart that will be no different. Readers cannot help but fall in love with her and her family, friends, community and even the story surrounding the murder is captivating.

When a reader reads a series and they read every book in that series, by the time they get to the ninth book they are a part of that series. The people are your people, the town and the community are your town and community. You have developed feelings and are invested and want the best for everyone. So with that said.....when I got to the end of Shucked Apart I was flappergasted, shocked, and sad. Ross takes something in the story and changes it...maybe forever. Readers will not see it coming however they will be left in shock. I don't know why Ross would do this but I am sure she has a very good reason for this and I look forward to the next book to see where she takes it.

SHUCKED APART, the ninth book in the Maine Clambake Mystery series by Barbara Ross, is another delightful return to Busman’s Harbor, Maine. As with the previous books in the series, the author does an admirable job in building on the strengths of her character development while interjecting an aspect of Maine’s industry which I find thoroughly captivating! Each book can easily be read as a standalone, but be prepared to want to backtrack and devour the previous books. In this newest release, protagonist Julia Snowden finds herself helping out her boyfriend’s friend, Andie, an oyster farmer, after someone stole mind boggling expensive buckets of oyster seed from her. It doesn’t take long for the same oyster farmer to be found murdered and Julia feels a sense of responsibility in finding the killer. I was fascinated by the oyster farming industry as described in the book. I had absolutely no idea how extensive it was or the dedication it entailed to bring oysters to market, and Ms. Ross effortlessly weaves those details into the plot without slowing down the pace of the mystery.

As the mystery unfolds and Julia begins delving into the bitter feelings between oyster farmers and lobster fishermen, a slew of suspects crop up. The clues strongly point in their direction since Andie’s oyster farm had been sabotaged several times in the weeks and months leading up to her death. Thrown in for good measure is an ex-husband, wealthy summer residents who don’t want any type of industry in their backyard, and rival oyster farmers. Julia is a deliberate amateur sleuth and I appreciated the care she took when asking questions around town and talking to potential suspects. It was enjoyable watching the scenes unfold and following the clues, and while I didn’t guess correctly, I was thoroughly gratified with the way the threads of the plot came together in a cohesive reveal.

Another delight of this series is the way the author showcases recipes containing Maine’s agricultural ingredient featured in the book. There have been blueberries, clams, lobsters, and of course this book contains a couple oyster recipes among others.

I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book got me in the mood for summer and picnics and barbeques. I love visiting with the Snowden family. Julia Snowden runs her family's clambake business in Busman's Harbor, Maine. An old friend of her boyfriend's comes to her looking for help. Someone attacked her and stole her oyster seeds and she doesn't think the police are looking in the right places. Julia agrees to help her and starts looking for who would benefit from Andi losing her oyster seeds. What she doesn't expect is to stumble upon Andi's dead body in the water.

Reading any book in this series always gets me ready for warmer weather. Julia is a great lead character and a great sleuth. I liked learning more about Chris's friends. I do wish there had been more of Julia's family. The mystery was well done. I liked how the clues were thrown in. I figured out the killer the same time as Julia. I wasn't thrilled with the ending but I'm hoping it will be resolved in the next book. I can't wait to read more.

I always look forward to a new Maine Clambake mystery! The setting is always described extremely well, and I always feel like I'm actually there in Busman's Harbor with Julia, Chris, their family/friends/employees, etc.

In this book the focus is on Chris and Julia's relationship, including a female friend that Julia had never met before who is later found dead. It was interesting to see the dynamics and repercussions of that. The ending will make you want another story STAT!

This series is one of my favorite cozies, and I always preorder each installment. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading about oyster farming; I found it fascinating! As always, all the food sounded delicious, and you'll be craving a satisfying clambake meal with Julia and her family!

Thank you, Netgalley, for my arc!

Shucked Apart by Barbara Ross is the 9th book in A Maine Clambake Mystery series, and a wonderful addition. Julia Snowden and her family are getting ready for the summer season and opening the Snowden Family Clambakes Company in Busman's Harbor, Maine. When Julia's boyfriend's friend gets robbed of her oyster seeds, Julia agrees to help her. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book, which Julia is determined to solve. Ms. Ross's books just seem to get better and better. I enjoyed reading about spring, as it snows outside. I strongly recommend this book and the whole series, you won't be disappointed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Life in Bushman's Harbor is gearing up for the summer season and everyone is in the hiring staff mode.

When Julie's boyfriend Chris asks her to help out his friend Andie, Julie comes face to face with her relationship with Chris. Andie is an oyster farmer who is being harassed by unknowns when her application to expand her farm in the river comes before the town council. As Julie talks to people she finds herself conflicted, but when Andie is murdered the focus shifts to keeping Julie safe!

The book ends with new characters working the summer at the Snowden Clambake who have the potential to make life challenging. Now to wait for the next book in this series.

I am looking forward to the next book in this series. This cozy went by so fast!

I love this series. Chris Asks Julia for help when a friend is robbed. Julia learns that Chris has been keeping more secrets from her. This is all in the middle of getting ready to open the Snowden Family Clambake. Although a robbery, a murder and a boyfriend she can’t trust Julia juggles it all. Loved this can’t wait for the next!

I have read all of the clam bake mysteries and have really enjoyed watching the relationships grow as the books progress. This installment focused less on the clam bake and more in a “side” mystery. Chris asks Julia to investigate a burglary at his friends house, in which tens of thousands of oyster spat is stolen. Julia of course agreed to help but is take aback when she learns that the mystery involves, Andie, Chris’s poker buddy. Julia mistakenly thinks Andie is a man and when she learns that she is indeed a woman she starts to wonder what else Chris is holding back. Andie eventually ends up murder and Julia solves the case, but the story focuses a lot on Julia and Chris’s relationship. I found Julia to be a lot more emotional than usual and reacting very strongly to Chris. I do love these mysteries and will definitely continue reading them.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

I thoroughly enjoy the books in the Maine Clambake series. The characters are well developed and the mystery is intriguing. There are enough twists and turns to keep you invested in the story. Learning about oyster farming was interesting and the author provides good details without boring you. I was very sad at the way the book ended so I’ll definitely be back for the next book to learn how things progress. Can’t wait for the next adventure in Busman’s Harbor, Maine.
