Beatrice and the House of Cozy

Rate this book
A more inept cabal of Sinister Siblings has never existed. A more grotesquely comfortable Manor has never been built. A more unfortunate heir apparent has never been born. But are they a match for the young woman with the most self-doubt in all the Isles? "Go to the Manor," Beatrice' Nan said. "Observe things," she said. But no sooner had Beatrice arrived at the mysteriously inviting Manor then the heir apparent Bernard had followed suit and promptly fainted in her arms; and having read her fair share of mystery novels, Beatrice knew this meant trouble. Inside the Manor, Bernard's cousins waited- to sue him in the least, should he survive until the reading of the will. Aided by Bernard's uncle's lover's son Etienne and his dapper feline best friend Benjamin, Beatrice was about to have the experience of a lifetime. Did I mention there's a ghost? Well, there's a ghost. And hidden treasure, secret passages, family intrigues, and occult happenings... if only Beatrice could stop lamenting the lack of Wifi long enough to notice any of it.

Full review coming soon to The Picky Bookworm.

I really enjoyed this book while I was reading it, but there were a few things that tripped me up. There are great concepts and interesting presentation. I loved the setting.

However I felt like this was a very slow read for what it was. The sentences (and the similes) often run wild, and I wish some of that wordcount had been redirected at creating more complex emotions for the characters.

It was a fun read, but overall I felt like it was too hectic to really give off the "cozy" vibes I was hoping for.

I absolutely adored this book. It reminded me of Alice in Wonderland in so many ways. It was witty and fun, engaging and absurd in the best of ways. Very sweet and definitely one to read again!
