Harmon Tomeral and his friends wanted nothing more than to go to space, and they have beaten the odds, time and again, to get there. They developed a mech and won the Top Fleet Marine Competition. They brought back a battlecruiser from an unknown system and made it their own. They made allies who helped them achieve great victories, and they ultimately founded new colonies in what has become known as the Salvage System.
Salvage System is a beacon of hope, and a number of other races continue looking toward it as an inspiration for how to live and govern themselves, and—in some cases—for assistance in defending themselves and throwing off oppressive regimes.
But the galaxy is a big place, and many of the races in it aren’t friendly. Would these forces like to take over Salvage System and acquire its resources? Absolutely.
Fifteen incredible authors take you further into the Salvage Title universe, giving you looks at some of the beacons of hope…and some of the malevolence that has yet to show its face. Can Harmon Tomeral and his friends hold out against it? Take a look inside and find out!

Eh... It's an Anthology book, and because of that, I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Some of the stories could be placed in ANY universe, and they'd fit just fine. They mention the Bith Gates, and that's it. No mention of Salvage System in some of them, or anything else. Short stories, disappointing stories. Don't get me wrong, I've read Anthology books before, but they kept it more to the larger picture related to their universes. I've read most of the Anthology books for Mercedes Lackey's Herald's of Valdemar, and they FIT! But some of these? They just didn't feel like they fit at all. Otherwise, these short story authors made some reasonably good short stories, but the overall picture for me felt skewed and unambiguous, and again: CAN FIT ANYWHERE IN ANY OTHER UNIVERSE.
TL;DR: if you're here for Salvage System related stories, or otherwise, related to MCs of Steverson's books, you're best off looking for books Steverson has, himself, written.
I am hooked! Through the Gate is a collection of short stories about the Salvage Title Coalition. It encompasses the variety of beings who populate it, visit it and/or try to conquer it. We have down-and-outers, stowaways, pirates, politicians, conartists, wiseguys, royalty, kidnappers, spies and even a passing mention of someone by the name of Hann who wins a starship named the Falcon in a card game (Yes, really!). This anthhology was an introduction to the whole Salvage Title Universe for me. It piqued my interest to the point that I purchased Kevin Steverson's Salvage Title Trilogy and it's anology. I am now in the process of acquiring the Coalition duology.
Great anthology that lets you explore many different story lines from the Salvage universe. Hopefully, we can extend some of these shorter stories into much longer ones for future publication (hint hint). So many cool new races of aliens and different ways to get into and out of trouble. Highly recommend.
Some stories were just fun, pop corn Sci Fi, others had the don’t upset engineer, and some were very intense. The first story was good, intense, and troubling.
Unexpectedly diverse collection of stories, and each and everyone had a good story / moral to tell. I'd recommend this book for quick bites between work days or waiting at a car wash. It's fun and you should try.
