Magali Rousseau #1-4

The Perle Quartet: The complete Magali Rousseau mystery series box set

Rate this book
"I'd like you to find the person who killed my son." The tone is set with Charlotte Perle's first words to Magali Rousseau. No ordinary request, this – it’s one that calls for empathy, tenacity, thoroughness. Qualities which Magali has in abundance. And the bond between the two women grows into something far beyond the search for a murderer. Friendship, love, a deep and lasting complicity - Magali's life is utterly changed by the arrival of Charlotte. Which is all to the good, except for one serious drawback - the risk of losing it. A risk which, in this line of work, can become reality any time. One Green Bottle, Cash in Carry, Perfume Island, Mystery Manor - the four novels in this box set highlight Magali and Charlotte in four different investigations, spread over two years. From the hunt for a serial killer to a devastating journey into horror, these books form an unforgettable exploration of darkness. But one in which, with a friendship like theirs, there is always a place for laughter, always the possibility of light.

I grew up in Wales, was educated in England and have spent most of my life in France. I've been writing since the age of 10, when my first poem was sent to a competition by my English teacher. After moving to France, I ran a café-theatre till it got demolished, whereupon I scratched my head, wondering what to do next. Eventually I became a university lecturer, specialising in Second Language Acquisition, even though (apart, obviously, from French) I've spectacularly failed to learn any languages (I'm currently trying Dutch and can already say 'The turtle eats the sandwich', which is very encouraging). I spent two years in Mayotte, a tiny, unknown island in the Indian Ocean, which France bought for 1000 piastres in 1842. Magali Rousseau (my heroine) got into a lot of trouble there, but now, like me, she's back in Provence, where she jogs, paints, and catches murderers.
