Manwhore #1

Touch Me Not

Rate this book
A past tragedy has left Lily Holmes burdened with a devastating secret…

Since the death of her twin sister, Lily can’t bear to be touched. Not accidentally, not casually…and certainly not intimately. This makes it impossible for her to confess to her best friend Adam Roberts that she’s in love with him. She can’t give him the sort of relationship he needs, so she watches in silence while he plans his wedding with someone else.

Enter Nikoli Kinkaid, the campus manwhore…

Nikoli is a self-proclaimed connoisseur of women, and he wants to add Lily to his list of conquests, but she wants nothing to do with him—until he makes her an offer she can’t refuse. He’ll teach her to enjoy human contact again, giving her a chance to win over Adam, while Nikoli uses all his considerable charm to seduce her.

But Lily raises the stakes…

Lily loves cars. Her late father was a racer, and she grew up under the hood of a car and on the racetrack. Nikoli has a limited edition 1970 Plymouth Barracuda she covets, so she informs him the terms of their deal also require he not sleep with anyone for six months. If he does, she’ll win the car. If she surrenders and ends up in his bed, his beloved ’Cuda is his to keep.

In an intricate dance of control and surrender, a reluctant friendship becomes something more. Lily begins to crave things she never believed she could, and Nikoli realizes there is more at stake than his reputation.

If Lily overcomes her phobia, will she crave Adam’s touch as she’s starting to crave Nikoli’s? Or will she only find pleasure from the touch of a semi-reformed manwhore?

So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.

Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there's always someone to tell your mama on you. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled "Lord Margrave's Deception." I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters.

Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my family and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce...lol.

I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

***5 "Brutally honesty for the manwhore and his little prude" stars from me***

What can i say about this book??? I L.O.V.E.D. it!!!
It was fuckin' amazing and i had one of the best times of my life while i was reading it!!!

You probably wonder why the hell did that happened, since from the blurb it doesn't seem that the theme is extraordinary...
But it was different in some way... and i really had a pleasant time reading it!!!
I laughed a lot, i got angry, near to the end i was a little bit heartbroken, but i wouldn't change anything inside of this book!!!
I think all this effort was very sweet and amazing!!!!

What effort??? Wait, and i will tell you...

Well, here we were having the usual boy in college who was a little bit of a prick toward women and he was named the University's "manwhore"...
Our story started from the point that he laid his eyes on Lily Holmes... The nice, sweet and kind girl that everybody was loving... Yep, that's right! Everybody was loving her!!! And she was worthy it!!!
Nikoli (yep, Russian accent and all that!!! Mmmm.... yummy!!!) tried his moves on her but she wasn't like all the other girls.
She refused his offer and told him in his face that he is not worthy her time.

Ouchs!!! That hurts!!!
But her refusal made Nikoli more insistent... He want her to his bed and he will succeed in this plan...
But there is a tiny/huge little problem...
Lily doesn't like to be touched by anyone... She had issues that i can not reveal you...

And not only that but she is in love with ther best friend who is gonna get marry soon...

So Nikoli will commit to her that he will help her with her problem (something that noone could ever manage to do) and she will be able to earn Adam, but in return she will sleep with him just once...

Oh!!! That was a big challenge for him... As i mention above he was the biggest manwhore ever and that included that every girl that was passing from his bed was staying near to him for the most one hour!!! So how will he manage to succeed in this difficult goal??? A goal that needs time and patience??
And what will happen when Nikoli start to know Lily and found out that she is the only woman that could make him laugh and spoke with for more that a few minutes??? And that they are sharing some mutual passions as cars and gaming???

"Sure, he wanted her in a bad way, but he also had this insane urge to help her, to give her back everything she’d lost. He couldn’t explain it, but Lily mattered to him. In just two weeks, she’d gone from a fuck bet to someone he cared about."

As for Lily, can she trust him???? Will he manage to truly help her??? To make her not flinch away from every touch??? And why is he the only one that's not scaring her when he is about to touch her??? Will manage Nikoli to help her with something that noone else could ever do???? And what will happen when she will discover his other side???

"Her insides tightened, but not in fear. Her hands were shaking, yeah, but there was more than fear there—she felt excitement, anticipation. Why did his touch, even the promise of his touch, do this to her? No one, not even Adam, had ever made her feel like this. Maybe the manwhore really was that good...
Dear Lord, what was she getting into? She almost called it off right then and there, but forced the words back. If she didn’t take a chance, then she’d never know. This man could give her back her life. Instinct told her this, and she wasn’t going to give up the chance for normalcy."

Well, i liked very much this couple. They were so sweet and funny and brutally honest with each other and i think that was the secret for their succeed. Nik never hide away his true colors and his manwhoring ways from Lily and Lily was speaking the things by their name.

Lily was an authentic person... She was so kind, so pure.... and she wasn't for Nikoli's teeth, but she was the only one that could haddle him very good.
And Nik... Oh my Gosh!!! I love him!!! He was a manwhore but he was real and true. I liked that he didn't hiding anything from Lily and i really liked the person that he was becoming when he let his guards down while he was around Lily. Underneath his pricky ways, there was an amazing person...

But the thing that amazed me more than anything else in this book was the proceeding of touching...
It was a slow and difficult effort but it was a wonderfull thing to witness...
I love every single moment that Nikoli was trying to "cure" Lily!!! And i enjoyed the results very much!!!

"He lowered his head to hers, his nose brushing hers. She didn’t flinch. She went completely still, but she didn’t flinch. He heard her gasp, the soft intake of breath. His eyes looked into hers. He saw the desire. Saw the fear, but mostly he saw trust. She trusted him not to force her to do anything she couldn’t do. She trusted him not to become angry if she couldn’t do it.
That, more than anything else, made Lily Holmes the most dangerous creature he’d ever encountered. She could break him, and he didn’t care.

I have nothing more to say beyond that i LOVED it!!! Sorry that i am repeating myself, but i can't help it!!!

Third re-read: 27.01.2020
It was still cute. I still liked it. And I definitely still love Nikoli. I want my own Nikoli. Now. That being said, it's not perfect, not absolutely amazing, but it's enjoyable and I like the characters, and I wouldn't mind a sequel for these two characters...
New Rating: 3.5 stars.

Other Characters:
The list is somewhat long so I've put it in a spoilers tag.

Second re-read: 06.05.2017
I don't know why I like this one. I just know that through-out this book, I can't keep the smile off my face. I adore this book. Nikoli ‘Nik’ Kinkaid (21) and Lily ‘Lils’ ‘Lilly Bells’ Isabella Holmes (21) is so fucking adorable together and even though the healing is, in a way, way too fast, it's still awesome. I still which Apryl Baker will write us more of the couple.
“My goal is to help you, Lily, make you comfortable with me, but I also want to touch you, very badly. It’s why I’m over here right now. I want to bend you over that couch and fuck you so hard, you’ll feel me inside you for a week, but I’m controlling myself.”

I think it's the relationship and the connection between Nikoli and Lily that makes this book so likable to me. It's also a pretty light read, which I needed right now. I also find the dominance: Nikoli's rules and structures, pretty hot... specially because it really does help Lily become stronger and more confident. She also has the hots for alpha males so...;) And Nikoli is just the perfect amount of kind and of alpha male.
“She could break him, and he didn’t care.”

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (New Adult) Contemporary Romance
Series: - Series (Standalone?), Book One

Favorite character? - Nikoli Kinkaid.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Yes.

I still really like it. Nikoli is just...*swoon*. No more words.
Sure, he wanted her in a bad way, but he also had this insane urge to help her, to give her back everything she’d lost. He couldn’t explain it, but Lily mattered to him. In just two weeks, she’d gone from a fuck bet to someone he cared about.

First read review:

Surprise, surprise, I actually liked it. Though I'm pretty sure that if I wasn't in a reading slump (though I believe it's at its end), I probably would have love it. Nikoli Kinkaid was amazing. I loved him! He was perfect. Possessive, commanding, alpha male, yet he could be so patient, kind and good. Like I said: P E R F E C T! I think I've found a new NA book boyfriend :O... I recommend this to EVERYONE, specially those who loved Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. I know, for sure, that I'll re-read this in the future, perhaps even more than once ;)

"Easy, dushka," he mumured. "You're safe."

4 'light touches' Stars

Nikoli is Boston University's very own manwhore. He sleeps with women and then discards them like they're nothing and he also won't sleep with the same woman twice. When he see's Lily he know's she's going to be his next conquest. But when she won't even give him the time of day, and then he gets threatened by half the football team, he realizes Lily won't be as easy as he thought. Her turning him down only shows Nikoli that she's going to be a challenge, though, and he's determined to win that challenge. Learning of Lily's fear of being touched pushes him even more to have her so he makes a deal with her; he'll help her learn to accept touch again, and if he can she'll spend a night in his bed.

The blurb for this one really intrigued me and even though I was a little nervous about a New Adult where the heroine didn't like to be touched, I decided to give it a shot. I'm really glad I did because my fears of it not being hot enough were silly. The chemistry that Nikoli and Lily had definitely made up for the lack of sex scenes. There was still a lot of smexiness in the book and it was done really well.

I loved Nikoli and how patient he was with Lily. He didn't see himself falling for her but he became super protective and caring. That caring side was so sexy and I loved seeing him in a way that was so different than the playboy persona that he shows to the rest of the world. There was a lot more to his character than just a careless man that uses women. I liked how there was a little lite bdsm brought into the story also, and it wasn't something I was expecting but I really liked that aspect of it.

Lily was strong and confident in herself, which I wasn't picturing from her when I first read the blurb. I thought for sure she would be just another shy heroine that I, at best, tolerated. Instead, Lily was sassy and comfortable in her own skin, even when she had issues with not being able to let people touch her. Her knowledge of cars is what drew Nikoli to her, but I also really liked that side of her. It wasn't something a lot of people knew and I found it really interesting.

Overall, this book was a surprisingly great read and I loved the characters. Nikoli and Lily were so different than characters I've read before and I loved the change. I'm not a huge fan of New Adult but this was one of the good ones. I hope Nikoli's brothers will be getting stories!

Dushka this dushka that. Milaya this milaya that. Lily, there is this thing called google translate where you can translate foreign unknown words. Maybe you should try it sometime and stop asking what milaya means in every chapter.

So let's see what this book has:

- a douche MC who is nice only to Lily

description

- but wait, he had his heart broken in the past so it's okay!!!

description

- female protagonist who has panick attacks when touched and get this... only Nikoli aka the Douche can help her!!!

description

- female protagnost is not a girly girl - she likes cars and video games!!!

description

- she is in love with her best friend who is getting married to a girl who is so not for him

description

- there's some unnecessary drama involving serial killers

description

- good ol' double standards and slut shaming

description

- hahaha and can you believe that Lily actually eats real food!!!

description

- weird-ass climax that leads to an even more weird-ass ending

Lily has been in love with her best friend Adam for years. Adam doesn't see Lily like that. He loves her like a sister. It doesn't matter anyway because Lily has issues with touch. She doesn't like to be touched and she doesn't want anyone touching her. Not even Adam.
Everyone at school loves Lily. She's smart, kind and helps everyone out. She's tutored most of the football team so they will hurt anyone that hurts Lily.
Nikoli is known around campus as the manwhore. He doesn't do relationships and he never sleeps with a women twice. He always gets what he wants with just a smile. Nikoli spots Lily across campus and decides he wants her. He loves a good challenge. He doesn't care that his friends are warning him to stay away from Lily. He doesn't care that they are threatening him that he better not hurt her. He is Nikoli Kinkaid and he always gets what he wants and he wants Lily in his bed or over the couch or on the table. Haha!
Nikoli doesn't know that Lily doesn't like to be touched. He wants her to tell him what happened to make her like this. He's expecting a story about abuse. He's not expecting him to tell her about how her twin sister died.
When Nik figures out that Lily is in love with wonder boy Adam he comes up with a plan. A plan that will help Lily get over her phobia of touch and get her in his bed. Then Lily can go and confess her love to Adam. Everyone ends up a winner with no hearts broken or do they?
I loved Nik and Lily together. The tension between these two was off the charts. I couldn't read fast enough. I did think Lily was a bit too perfect. I mean she was smart, played video games better than the men, she knew how to drive a race car and she also could work on cars. So at times I was just saying to myself...is there anything this girl can't do besides touch people? lol
I loved how Nik and Lily both had walls built up and slowly they both were learning to trust each other and let the walls crumble down. It was a slow process and I loved it. I wanted to scream at Nik toward the end!
Now why not a 5 star?
The ending is why. That ending was just a bit OTT in my opinion. Then it just got all tied up in a neat little bow so fast. lol
Anyway I still loved this one minus the OTT ending. Im a sucker for a broken H or h in books. lol
I will be looking for more books by this author:))

Wow! This book had almost every cliche thing in it, that you can think of when reading NA college romance.

We have quiet, nerdy heroine with phobia, who everyone (like whole football team - because she is their tutor) adores and is very protective of. We also have campus manwhore, gorgeous of course, super rich, super cool and suddenly interested in her, oh and he is also car racer and has his own multi million dollar gaming company. She needs help and he wants in her pants so offers her help in overcoming her problem with being touched but in exchange for a chance to seduce her. He is also uber alpha with dominance tendencies. What starts as an arrangement, ends up with feelings being involved obviously.

And I could list many more, like her best friend Adam, who is engaged to some blond barbie (bitchy of course), that she has loved forever but he hasn't seen what was in front of him until it was too late, and so on and on and on... But you know what?

Cause I freaking loved it! With cliches and all, I devoured it. And if you do love college NA books then I recommend.

Manwhore or Connoisseur Of Women?

At 1%-

"His gaze moved over the mass of bodies, categorizing all the women there. He couldn't find a single one outside the newly arrived freshman he hadn't bedded over the last three years. Well, there were some, but he simply wasn't attracted to those few.

Then...

At 19% -

"Manwhore. He shook his head. He'd had no idea that's what people thought of him. Sure, he'd slept with a lot of women, but not as many as everyone thought.

So, which is it?

description

Lily and everyone else says he's a manwhore."

description

He says he's a "connoisseur of women."

He's perplexed and slighted that everyone thinks he's a manwhore .... Even as he admits he's been through most of the chicks at his college.

description

I mention this because it's a constant line of thought for them throughout the book. As a reader, it was initially annoying to me. A spade is a spade and all. But, it eventually becomes obvious that denial of truths and avoidance is something Nik is very good at.

Characters

description

Nikoli is an ass. But, he's an endearing kinda ass. He's her ass;) Yes, he's a manho and his reasoning behind that is lame as fuck't'all, but when Lily needs him to be serious, he shows that he's not the uncaring man people assume he is, that he even perhaps believes himself to be. He makes mistakes, and they are some bad mistakes. Lily forgives him... The question is can you? More in a minute~

I love his Russian pet names. I loved how patient and persistent he was with Lily. I loved their chemistry together. And those things helped me forgive him.

I love that Lily isn't a twat-twit falling all over herself over the hot guy. Her feelings evolve and develop as she sees a different side to the "manwhore."

Safety Gang Note

One of the biggest problems I found and see other readers having in this book is the dreaded OW plot line.

Taken as a whole, I was still able to enjoy the book very much. Knowing what I know now, would I still read it? Yes. But, I DO wish that these things would've been done a little differently? Yes!

1. Nik meets Lily for first time and wants nothing but to add her as a notch on his bedpost. Honest and upfront about it with her. No hearts and romance. Lust scenario. He does sleep with another woman after meeting Lily. It's written as 'it happened' w/ no details or actual scenes. Lily is aware of this and even consoles the OW.

description

2. As Lily and Nik get closer, he still often contemplates screwing someone else to erase whatever he is beginning to feel for Lily. The bet they place prohibits him from actually following through with any of these passing thoughts.

description

3. After the climax of the romance, that is after we know they love each other. Nik rips her to shreds because he is afraid. At 90%, he is making out with another woman trying to erase Lily. He says it would have went no further, but the scene is stopped by Lily. It's hard for readers, especially this far into a book, and, IMHO, it's unnecessary.

description

One and two did NOT bother me that much because • this wasn't insta-love on anyone's part and there's no pretense of 'the one' • no lies • the ow scene is written as 'it happened' w/ no details at all, and Lily initially has feelings for her BFF.

description

Three bothered me. Had the author not had SUCH A DRAMATIC ENDING , I don't know if the pain he inflicted on Lily would've been something I could've just forgiven with some mundane apology.

description

Thankfully, the author gave me more and had already given me enough like of Nik to carryon.

Central Story: The Bet

3 months
No OW
If she stays out of his bed, she gets his beloved car.
If he wins, well..

Lily can't stand to be touched. Kinda hard to find intimacy and confess loving your BFF when you have a phobia of being touched, right?!

Nikoli has his own phobia of relationships.

Nikoli comes up with a bet that will get him what he wants -Lily in his bed - and also help her overcome her phobia.

She agrees to his game of seduction because her body responds to him, and even if she doesn't get her BFF Adam in the end, she'll have Nikoli's car:))

Secondary Storylines

description

I loved that the author put a lot of secondary sideline stories in but still kept the focus on MCs and the building romance. Dom/alpha male/ sex club/ lifestyle, serial killer, family woes, dead twin, Russian FBI bro, unrequited childhood love, phobias, betrayal of a sibling, billionaire, gamers, racing, cars, dead dad, virtual sex, etc etc etc <<< I mean there's actually a shitload if story here.

I think the author did very well with juggling most all of those.

The serial killer plot is left open for future books; it's actually more like a patchwork that's set-up here.

The Dom/Sub/sexclub/ alt lifestyle line is the only ball the author dropped. It was never said what the fuck exactly he was into. The one actual sex scene between the MCs included nothing , err, Uhm, unusual?!? His sex club history never talked about. <<< That whole storyline was like sitting on the ground seeing...

description

... you know it's a plane, but you don't know what kind? Where it's going? Who's in it? Where it departed from? Etc. Should've been expanded and expounded upon -or- left out altogether.

Bottom Line

3stars for me. If have given this book 4 stars if not for the dropped ball in his sexual preferences and lifestyle and the unnecessary nastiness and hurt of the OW scene @91%.

Safety gang folks will have a hard time with Nik's character.

Readers looking for erotica, BDSM, kink, alternative lifestyle lines - move on along.

But, if you're looking for a mature college setting story... in soap opera'esc style angst and suspense... which also has a lot of depth in the evolution of feelings and relationships, then this is a good book for you.

This is one of those books that...

I liked this book :) except one thing.
It missed just a little BIT to make me out of the world love it, but that's why it's a 2.75 star and not a 4
This would have been a straight 4 starts if it wasn't for the OW.
To explain, I'm just going to copy one thing about the OW scenario that I wrote on a comment:
"I would have loved if he had stopped kissing the other woman before the heroin walked in. So now I'm left wondering "would he have continued if she hadn't?"
We see from his POV that the second she walks in and he sees her, he decides 100% that he wants her and that's it. But then the attack happens etc and immediately she forgives him. But I would have believed in the hero more if he had stopped and decided otherwise himself."
It didn't kill the story for me, but unfortunately, in these kinds of books (those where it isn't deep, just a regular YA/NA books, I've found that I need to ignore some of my hated aspects to enjoy the stories otherwise I would give any cheating stories 1 star. haha

I started reading this novel because I thought the blurb was interesting. A girl with a trauma that prevents her from handling or even enjoying other people's touch. I thought it would be an interesting read in a psychological view.

My biggest criticism was the double-standard issue with sex and women. What. A. Disappointment. I've read more than my share of romance novels, some bad and some amazing, NONE of them put a moral judgement on sex. That's the point of romances, men who accept women's sexual preferences and sexual freedom. There's one conversation between the hero and a friend where the friend emphasizes that Lily is, and I quote "the girl you marry" not "the girl you just fuck." I didn't realize there was a separation, distinction, between two types of women. Come on that speech is already a bit old, don't you think??

Another double standard issue was brought up when Lily tells Nikolai that she' different from his other conquests because she has some "self-respect". FYI you can have self respect and enjoy no-strings sex. Some girls enjoy that others prefer to have some kind of bond, whether in a relationship or not, the point is your love life is nobody's business.

Third reason why I put such a low score is Nikolai. He has sex with dozens of girls, and the author points out he's a "connoisseur of women" which is fine by me except it makes me believe he sees women as nothing more than sex toys. Respect is mentioned a thousand times when it comes to women and sex and no judgment is put on Nikolai. Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging him. What anyone does with their sex life is none of my business but the double standard in this story was so annoying I stopped reading the book.

Book Review For: Touch Me Not Touch Me Not by Apryl Baker My rating: 5 of 5 stars 'Touch Me Not' By Apryl Baker is book One in the "Manwhore" series. This is the story of Lily Holmes and Nikoli Kinkaid. Lily father was a race car driver who died in one of his races when she was young. Lily was very close to her father and he taught her allot about cars. So when he past she became very destructive at an early age which later cause the death of her sister. From then on she has issue with people touching her which has impacted her relationship with her best friend Adam. Lily thinks she is in love with him but he only sees her as a little sister. When she meets Nikoli who is attending the same College as her and Adam, he comes on to her. But Lily knows Nikoli has a reputation as a 'Manwhore' and she had to clean up a few of his mess when he was done with the girl. But he convinces her to go out with him. Nikoli doesn't do relationships and one night is all a lady gets but when Lily says no to him he sees this as a challenge. But on that date he learns about Lily phobia and that her feelings lay with Adam. They come to a agreement type bet that he will help her learn to allow him to touch her so that she can get over her phobia. If he can do that than she will sleep with him. But she turns the table and makes it that he can't sleep with anyone else for 3 months and if he does she gets his car that he loves so much. Well this was one of the weirdest YA books I have read.

The title is Touch me Not (Manwhore 1) so you go into this with expectations of the lead male character.

Nikoli Kincaid. The campus manwhore. He loves sex, he loves em, lays em and gets one of his friends to dismiss em when he is finished. He would rather believe he is a connoisseur of woman than live with the title of manwhore.

She doesnt like to be touched - by anyone, anywhere. He nicknames her "little prude". Because of this she is unable to let her best friend Adam Roberts that she is in love with him - She cant give Adam the relationship he needs so she watches him as he plans his wedding with someone else.

Nikoli makes her an offer she cant refuse. He will teach her to enjoy human contact again giving her the chance to win over Adam. Nikoli continues to use his "charm" to break her down.

So begins the dance of control and surrender.

Dont go into this book thinking that you are going to read episodes of hot steamy sex. despite what the blurb states. Its not there.

Around 60 odd % in the book we find out that Lily also likes to play visual sexual online games and he decides to up the anty. What finished it for me was that around 65% she realizes that she loves him! actually in love with Nikoli so a complete turn around from loving Adam.

I should know better and left this alone as it IS a YA story....... but I was optimistic that there might be something different. Instead it was the usual predictable, cliched outcome.

For me the manwhore and prude didnt deliver.

The ending? Well you guessed it.

3.75 a-whole-lot-of-everything stars

oh boy! this is quite a challenge to review this book, it's not really what you get from a blurb!

ok, let's start from the facts:

1) it's NA
2) there's a manwhore changed into a one girl guy (he also hides his true identity)
3) there's a "damaged" heroine who needs help
4) there's a kinda "triangle" messy thing going on
5) there's drama
6) there's a "deal" made between the manwhore and the heroine
7) there's a suspense factor that's not quite in the useful form here (only to make a room for another shit to happen involving our heroine)
8) there's a HEA, after all

ok, it really has everything in it...
the story in short (I will try to shorten it as much as possible)

a popular guy/manwhore sees the "next" pray in a form of our heroine, and he wants her for his next conquor...well, the problem lays in the fact that our heroine is "untouchable", both literaly and figuratively! She's a kind of a campus sweetheart and is well protected by the whole football team since she's best friends with one of the sporty hunks (but she's also in love with him OR so she thinks) and she suffers from a phobia that was induced by the tragical event from her past(she's doesn't like to be touched, she can't stand it and goes into a panic attack every time that happens)

the manwhore doesn't give up easily and pushes her limits until she makes the "deal"

(she will let him "help" her with her phobia cause eventually she wants her best friend and she wants to be "normal" again and the manwhore gets HER, he gets his prize in seducing her...)

and that's where the "problems" for both of them get bigger, more visible and undeniable

the characters

the manwhore - Nikoli Kincaid - black hair/black eyes, Russian/American, connosseur of women, as he calls himself, car racer and a gamer, and a game company holder/millionaire - now that all sounds very familiar, no doubt...what I truly liked about him is the change, I actually saw the mentioned change in the character...and I have to admit I liked him from the start - before and after the change! he did piss me off nearing the end BUT i chose to forgive him LOL

the heroine - Lilly Bells (as Nikoli) calls her is everybodies' sweetheart, she's a tutor to all the guys from the football team, BUT she's also a girl shadowed by the tragic events from her past that triggered her brain into a shut down on a skin to skin touch, she can't handle it (as she's connecting the touch with the death as a consequence of it in her past) and it's really messing with her "normal" life...that's why she's sheltered from all the guys that know of the "problem". She's in love with her best friend Adam (who's engaged to be married after graduation) and she regrets not being abale to show him that, to express herself...

the things get into the motion when Nikoli sees her and expresses the "want"...yes, Nikoli is very straigth forward, very direct and there's no fooling around, they both know what is set on the table and they are both aware of what is at stake BUT they had no idea that the "deal" they made would actually change them in every aspect imaginable!

yes, they fall in love with each other, they realize they are "real", palpable personalities inside them both, they have similar interest and they fit, so perfectly BUT both being "fools" they deny it and they fight it, although Nikoli is really the only one whose touch she actually wants to feel...

there's a submission involved with the slight BDSM and the actual intercourse between Lily and Nikoli is worth the rating I gave
the whole "process" of their "touch and feel" therapy is the spotlight of the whole book! If that alone was made into a novel it would be a master piece on its own...

but the issue I have with the whole story is the messy bits that are shoved inside so it could give a room for further actions, but the messy bits themselves are not dealt with...so i was kinda skimming and knowing the predictable ending would make me want to finish it sooner than later...

BUT I as I said, it was OK read and the BOLD part I explained really makes up for all the messy, annoying bits...

This is a sweet story about opposites attract. While I enjoyed the premise, I really had a hard time getting into the writing style. It’s told in third person POV with a lot of head jumping between the hero and the heroine, sometimes seemingly in the middle of a paragraph. This took me out of the writing, as I was often trying to figure out whose thoughts I was reading.
The book itself was well done, even if some of the plot points were a little rushed, despite the book being over 550 pages.
One thing that really annoyed me was when the hero and the heroine had a discussion about how the hero’s brother is bisexual, and how they respect his “choice.” Um, what? This book was published in 2020. While I think the author might be religious, how religious can she be when the hero is literally sleeping with a different woman every night? Yet, the heroine is surprised that he “respects” his brother’s “decision” to be bisexual. It wasn’t a throwaway line, either. Nope, it was an entire page dedicated to discussing his “choice”. Ughhhh. If that hadn’t happened around page 300, I probably would have DNFed for that reason (along with the head jumping), but I had already put a lot of time into the book.
3 stars.

It was the idea of a heroine who had a terrifying phobia of being touched that drew me to this book. A past tragedy has caused Lily to reject all physical contact. She has not embraced her beloved mother, her siblings, and even her life-long best friend Adam, who she's been secretly in love with for years. Unfortunately, Adam has his hands full with his busty Barbie girlfriend.

Nikoli Kincaid is the manwhore on campus, with a reputation of having had every woman on campus and more. What with the endless buffet of women available at the frat house, sex clubs and through the social gaming world, Nikoli's relationships rarely last longer than one hour. He loves sex. He loves to dominate. And he's proud of it. With his hot looks, his breathy Russian accent and his violet eyes, girls have been known to drop their panties just at the sight of him!

So when he sets his sight on a woman who won't even let him touch her, he's intrigued and challenged. And after the bore of easy sex there's nothing Nikoli likes more than a challenge!

“Why don’t you want to sleep with me?” he asked curiously, not sure if he wanted to know the answer or not.

She wrinkled her nose and screwed up her eyes. “God only knows what diseases you have.”

After a few failed attempts at seduction, Nicoli notices Lily's attentions are focused on Adam. He can see Adam is besotted with a slutty blonde and immediately thinks Adam is an idiot for ignoring the vixen right in front of him. But soon he sees it as an opportunity to finally get his chance with Lily.

“You realize if you want to stand any chance of winning him away from the blonde model, you’re going to have to let him touch you.”

“Adam is aware of my sensitivity to people touching me,” Lily hissed. “Why are we even talking about this?”

“Look over at Boy Wonder, see how he’s holding her hand? Would you let him do that? Could you let him touch you like that?” Lily peeked over at Adam’s table. Sure enough, he was holding Sue’s hand, his thumb idly brushing the back of her palm. Lily wanted to be able to let him do that, but the thought alone sent her into panic mode.

“You don’t stand a shot at winning him if you can’t let him touch you."
“Do you think I don’t know that?” Lily seethed.

“Then let me help you.”

“How exactly can you help me?” Lily asked suspiciously.

“For starters, you said he only looks at you like a sister, but the looks I’ve been getting since he got here say something else entirely. He’s jealous, and it’s working the blonde up into a full on rage. You need someone to show real interest in you, to spend time with, someone he can’t stand. Who better to get his attention than Boston U’s very own manwhore?”......

“What exactly are you proposing then, Nikoli?” she asked softly. Tricky, tricky. How to do this?

“I’m not going to lie to you, Lily. I want you, very badly. But I don’t stand a chance if I can’t touch you . I want you in my bed, and I’m willing to be patient and teach you to trust me, to let me touch you, for a price.”

“And what exactly do I get out of this deal of yours?”

“You get Adam,” he told her bluntly. “You get to drive him crazy and make him see you for the beautiful, intelligent, and desirable woman you are.”

“What’s your price?” She sounded belligerent , outraged, and suspicious all at once.

“You, of course. The chance to seduce you into my bed, to be more exact. I’m not a gentleman, Lily . I will get you naked, and then I’ll use every trick I have to get you to say yes. That’s my price.”

Needless to say, Lily eventually agrees to the deal. She bets him that he'd never be able to get her into his bed, and he bets her that, given the chance, she'd be there within three months. And then the fun starts! But the sweetest thing also happens... Lily and Nikoli become actual friends. They share a lot of laughter and the wicked banter never stops. They talk about everything, watch scary movies together, discover new breakfast nooks, they go furniture shopping and fix cars together. And for every question she has for Nikoli about him and his life, she must touch him. Nikoli gives her all the control.

Nikoli becomes very confused about his growing attachment to the person he most wants to spend time with, and Lily becomes more and more aware that Nikoli is able to push her boundaries more than anyone and the soft touches and kind gestures become the favourite part of her day.

And then when they least expect it to... their plan works!

This was a great read! The writing is a little coarse and certain things are rushed through, but the story is amazing! The contrast between Nikoli's manwhore status and Lily's aversion to human contact gives plenty of opportunity for the two main characters to teach each other some very poignant lessons.

Nikoli's tenderness is beautifully balanced with his alpha male sexual prowess and Lily is a strong and determined heroine who values her friends almost as much as she values self dignity.

The chemistry between the two MC's is palpable and their relationship is both sweet and steamy. There were some heart wrenching moments as well as pages and pages of witty banter and I often caught myself reading with a huge grin on my face.

One other thing that occured to me while reading this book is that it draws a clear distinction between slut-shaming and disrespecting a person who disrespects themselves. There is a small sppech that Nikoli gives at one point that makes it very clear that, for him, there is a difference. Nikoli teaches Lily that there is no shame in liking sex, and that one should not be embarrased about their needs and the enjoyment of another person's touch. But the way a person carries themselves, values themselves and remains honest with themselves makes all the difference.

I absolutely DEVOURED this book. It's an amazing story about two people who must teach each other to trust and accept change.

5 totally blew me away stars!

My actual grading was 2.5 but it certainly was not 3, so I had to go with 2 stars.

There is nothing more in this book other than the fun banter between them.

The heroine was perfect, really lovable but the hero was not my favorite kind with all his dominance issues and all.

I couldn’t feel their love or relate to the characters much – partly because of the 3rd point of view and partly because of the uncrafted writing. There are editing problems in the book as well.

Although it started like fun and had this potential, the story didn’t go anywhere. It just got more boring and meaningless towards the end. There were so many unnecessary details and events.

Her healing with him was not convincing for me at all and his reasons for breaking her heart were mere stupidity. Her forgiveness was too easy.

All in all, this book has been a disappointment for me. You wouldn’t lose anything by not picking it up, it is just a mediocre read...

(Although it is the first book in the series, the story has a proper end, there is no cliffhanger)

DNF - the h has been comforting the manwhore H’s castoffs for years. He starts actively pursuing her and he has sex with another girl the same day that he’s supposed to take her out on their first date. She has to comfort the girl… and she still goes out with him. 👀 Then he decides he’s the man to help her with her very deep rooted psychological problems with sex. So he takes her to his fuck pad where he tells her all about how he brings women back there that are into the same crazy sex stuff (I’m guessing BdSM-ish) he is. I’m just grossed out. I like manwhores but this is giving me the creeps and all the eye rolls. He’s all of the sudden a sex therapist. He’s just the lame college bicycle. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The h seems way too smart to think this is a good plan, but she’s going along with it.

I’m out.

First things first, this is going to be a little bit long.

I almost DNF'd this book at 10%, 20% and 30% but after that it started to get a little more interesting.

Lily has panic attacks when people touch her. Before you wonder, no, nothing "horrible" happened to her, yes bad things happened in her life but nobody abused her in any way.

Lily's deeply in love with her best friend, Adam, who's getting married in 4 months.

Nikoli is the campus manwhore, he is half Russian and was raised there so he has an accent that makes girls go crazy, paired with his amazing looks.

Nikoli wants Lily, Lily wants Adam, Adam is engaged and may or may not have feelings for Lily BUT Lily can't stand to be touched so here is where the plot thickens!

Nikoli proposes Lily a deal, let him help her with her phobia, Lily wants to change and get better for more reasons than just a boy so she says yes.

I wont say more because well spoilers and if you have read NA books you might guess.

I had many issues with this book, there were many jumps between POV's without any marks and that bothered me because I had to re-read to understand whom I was reading.

Nikoli was never a likeable character, he was a douche bag to everyone but Lily, his back-story is conveniently brought up for drama but never mentioned before, so I didn't buy it, Oh an lets not forget how he is conveniently a millionaire!

Lily was too perfect, she was loved by all the jocks in campus and they protect her so much that they threaten Nik when he asks her out. She's soooo hot and smart and nice and she's into "guy things" like cars and video games and of course she hates gifts because she wants the guy not the money but she demands the guy buys all new things if he wants her in his house.

There was a subplot about a serial killer that was not developed much. I'm thinking this a first in a series so we'll see more of that in the next book. But meh I didn't care for it to be honest.

This was set in the US (can't remember the city) but they used words like "tart" (derogatory term for women) and "pop" (can of soda) so what the what?

There was so much slut shaming and double standards! I wanted to punch someone! I mean this guy sleeps around and hey lets be honest, he never lies to get girls and he never promises anything after sex BUT he has no respect for the women he has sex with and that's a big no-no. Excuse me but if a girl opens her legs for you, you should be fucking grateful! Whatever her reasons were that's her body and her decision to share with you. He does not only disrespect women but when Lily calls him a manwhore he gets mad! He can't believe people see him that way, oh you blind fool. I didn't like him when I started the book and I didn't like him in the end.

Now Lily.. She makes Nikoli buy new furniture for his house or she wont step inside his apartment because she doesn't want to catch a disease.. Wtf? Oh and lets not forget the "I wont ever sleep with you, I have self respect" (because the other girls who did sleep with him didn't have it, right?) or how she calls Nikoli a manwhore for every little reason. She's a judgemental brat!

All the characters had awful personalities, the manwhore, the prude, the bitch, the funny best friend, the jealous jock.. Ugh I can't! I probably won't read the next books in the series.

4,5 stars !

I had so much fun reading this book ! Though the synopsis could lead you to believe that it's just your typical NA book about a good and nerdy girl taming the campus' manwhore, the story was actually done in a way that felt totally different and very refreshing !

Nikoli and Lily's realtionship felt so realistic to me, I liked that it took them both time to realize how they felt for each other, it was definitely not love at first sight. Nikoli was really just set on sleeping with Lily and be done with it, and it didn't take him only 2 seconds to realize how amazing Lily was and be crazy in love with her. It took him some time to notice all the little things that made him slowly fall in love with her. Also, Nikoli was always honest and straight forward, always saying what he wanted without shame (especially telling Lily that he wanted her in his bed), I loved that about him. But he was also really sweet to Lily and I loved their moments when he was trying to help her with her fear of being touched, those were really intense and so well described that they gave me goose bumps ;) Also, did I mention how hot it is that Nikoli is Russian and has so many different sweet names for Lily in Russian ? ^^

As for Lily Bells, she was such a sweetheart, so nice, smart, nerdy and funny ! However, I thought she was a bit too perfect, I mean girls like her can't really exist (can they ?), so it was a bit hard to really relate to her : I mean the girl loves cars, races and knows everything about them, she likes playing video games, also loves books, she is smart as hell, and to top it all, she knows how to dance ; how can you actually compete with that ? The girl was freaking perfect and everyone loved her, which got some eye rolls from me at some point. But despite that, I still loved her and how natural and sweet she was.

Their relationship, as I said, felt so realistic to me, it was slowly building, they actually talked and had real conversations to get to know each other, spent a lot of time together and shared things about their passions and pasts.

Now, though the ending was a bit over done, I still loved this book and highly recommend it ! Hope there will be a sequel, maybe on one of Nikoli's brothers ? ;)

3.5 Touching Stars!

Nikoli likes sex with no strings attached, he makes his intentions clear and isn't sorry about it. When he sees Lily he must have her in his bed, but what he doesn't count on is coming on to her and being completely rebuffed. He's never flirted with a girl before only to be rejected, she must be playing hard to get and it spurs something in him. Lily is the sweetheart on campus. She helps tutor the entire football team and now they feel the need to protect her. She is hopelessly in love with her best friend Adam, so of course when manwhore Nikoli hits on her she isn't into it. She knows who he is, she's helped heartbroken girls get over him, and she won't fall for that trap. The only problem is that he won't relent. He asks for one date. Just one and then he says he'll leave her alone if she still wants him to. One date sparks a deal. Nikoli puts it on the table and Lily accepts.

"Lily is the best thing that'll ever happen to you, but by the time you figure it out, she'll be gone."

He starts helping her with her phobia and slowly the trust between them builds. She wants to make Adam realize she's the one for him and also be able to give him everything he deserves and that includes being able to touch her. But as time passes her relationship with Adam starts to break while the one with Nokoli starts becoming so much more.

This story starts off with two characters who you think can't be any more opposite from each other, the Manwhore and the Prude. The thing is they have more in common than either of them know. He's been burned in the past and for a long time now has refused to let any woman close to him, if only to save himself the heartache, but Lily gets through. Somehow Nikoli shows Lily the true him, his caring, and selfless side. He earns her trust by being there for her when she needs to him. He takes her condition completely serious and sincerely tries to help her even though he has his ulterior motives. The thing is he's made those motives completely clear. Through all of that they become inseparable and Lily can't help but develop serious feelings for this Manwhore. She knows exactly who he is and she doesn't want anything from him, she just wants him.

I love their banter, they were both very cheeky at times. Through all of that I also loved all the mystery shrouding the story with the everything happening in the area. The Russian endearments made my heart melt. They made Nikoli so very sexy. I mean who doesn't love to be referred to as sweetheart in another language. I really enjoyed reading Lily and Nikoli's journey. I might be wanting a sequel?

Easy, dushka," he mumured. "You're safe."

This book was a fabulous blend of witty humor and captivating romance. I loved the banter back and forth between the two MCs. It wove between the more serious elements of the story to create a nice balance. The romance itself was well done and wasn't just steamy but also had a deep emotional element that will draw readers in. Readers who are fans of Jamie McGuire and Denise Grover Swank will eat this up!

I read the 5-year-edition and apparently some things are different, I don't know what but I love this book to pieces.
This confirms that I love stories where the H helps the h in a not very common way. I know they may not be realistic but there's something about them that captivates me.
I loved seeing how the so-called manwhore wasn't what everyone had expected, and how the girl that couldn't be touched started craving him.
The couple's chemistry was excellent. I loved them together. My heart was pounding so hard! I recommend this book if you're a sucker for stories like this.
The last chapters were.... different from the rest (maybe they were added for this new edition). It felt like an introduction to the next books. It's normal, but I just wanted more Lily and Nik together... but that ending.... was EVERYTHING!

Touch Me Not was not what I expected AT ALL. It was such a sweet story with a few surprises. Overall I really enjoyed it!

Lily Holmes is a girl with a devastating past. She has a phobia and can't be touched. She is also smart, popular and has a case of unrequited love with her best friend, Adam. Adam is actually engaged to be married and Lily has decided that it's time to move on.

 photo giphy_12.gif

Nikoli Kinkaid is the sexy, "manwhore" with a Russian accent. He has never been turned down by a woman before but when Lily does... he has to have her.

 photo giphy1_2.gif

Even being a possisive alpha male, Nikoli was so sweet and gentle with Lily. He was able to do what what no one else was able to do... break down her walls. In return, she breaks down some of his. Some events at the end caught me off guard, but I love a book that packs a few surprises. The ending was perfect!

I recommend this book to everyone looking for a unique and sweet New Adult book!

This book was featured on my post about my best surprises of 2015!

What a great story! I read this on the wattpad app and I was so pleasantly surprised! It's a really touching story that is a perfect Belen's of light and dark. I loved Nikoli and Lily's relationship; it was sexy and cute! I definitely recommend this as a quick and fun read. I would still be as happy as I am now even if I had payed for it.

Keep in mind that the story is new adult, so there are some steamy scenes!

Happy Reading!
