Ryan had two clear missions that drove his life: To make his father proud of him for being in the military. And to marry his high school sweetheart, Kristie. But when he didn’t follow orders, the army sent him home. And then he found out Kristie was dating a friend of his from school.
When everything fell apart, Ryan found himself working as a bodyguard for a businesswoman from Japan who was in the United States on a mysterious venture. What he didn’t know was how dangerous this job really is, how strong and terrifying she would be, or how hard he would fall for her.
I tried to give this a chance. I wanted to DNF at about 10%, but I didn't think that would be fair. Even though I knew in the first few chapters that the H, Alonzo Ortega, was not an alpha, but was a whiny, spoiled, arrogant, misogynistic 28-y.o. brat who I couldn't bring myself to care about, I wanted to give this box set of three books an honest and fair read.
I will never get back the few hours I've wasted on this. I pushed myself to read through the first book. I should've just given up sooner.
This book reads as if maybe it had been translated into English, or like maybe English isn't the author's first language. There was a lot of odd phrasing. (At one point, the author refers to Alonzo and Mauricio looking for "young singletons" at a bar. Who says that?)
As I said, Alonzo was an over-grown spoiled rich kid. He'd was supposed to be managing his family's empire of hotels, restaurants and stores. All he ever did was hang out with his so-called friend, Mauricio, partying, getting drunk, and picking up random girls almost every night. Whenever his father tried to call or text or just talk to Alonzo about his responsibilities, Alonzo would ignore him. Ultimately, Alonzo sneaks away to Bali to hide from his father and his duties.
That was pretty much the first book. Of course, he did meet Camila in a Jiu-Jitsu class where she embarrassed him. And we get to see his ego and misogyny at work. (He wasn't going to be beaten by a small woman. He was going to overpower her... show her who was boss. Right.) But that was it.
The first book was boring and uneventful, IMO. There was little to no romance and no steam at all. Like I said, I didn't like Alonzo at all, so I didn't care what happened to him.
I started the second book, and I could see that the author was trying go inject some drama all of a sudden: Alonzo is directly threatened boy his uncle and cousin; we see that something is going on with Mauricio; there is a possible threat to Alonzo's HEA with Camila...
For me, it was too little too late.
And I won't even mention the typos... the many, many typos.
I'd like to know what happened to Mauricio after Alonzo left Bali, and why he did what he did... but I'm not willing to sacrifice more of my life and brain cells to keep reading this.
This is a wonderful set of reads. Characters are well fleshed out and believable. The plot and story lines are excellent and keep you gripped. I love the romantic suspense with the build up to the conclusion. Can't wait to read more from the author. Recommend reading!
I received a complimentary copy of this novel and this is my honest voluntary review.
I started reading Sweet Curse of Bali as a standalone and was captivated but honestly never got around to reading the other novels (as my KU library never emptied) until I received the box set as a gift after joining the ARC team. This love story takes you from Barcelona to Bali to Barcelona again that starts off as a slow burn where hate turns to love and then a misunderstanding that leads to the second book where the connection with Alfonzo and Camila is too strong even for a couple of antagonist who livens up the storyline with lots of angst and then the last book where everything comes together that shows there's no such thing as a curse only you are your own curse if you believe it! Thank you Mya Grey!
Mya Grey has quickly became one of my favorite authors. She knows how to keep her readers engaged. I'm grateful to have received this box set as one of her ARC readers. This series was funny, loving, and entertaining. Alonzo is a spoiled rich brat, but everything changes when he meets Camilla. This series goes through not just his journey, but Camilla's too. Can their love withstand hard times, betrayal, and long distance?
A Billionaires First Love: Enemies-to-Lovers Romance Trilogy Box Set
This story was very well written. I really enjoyed it and wanted it to never end. Alonzo and Camilla are perfect for each other. They hated each other when they first met and she beat him up at jujitsu. He couldn't get her out of his head unlike all the other women who were always after him because he is a billionaire.
This is a good story. I was not happy with Alonzo at first but he sure straightened up. I still don't understand why Antonio wanted his kids to get Alonzo's shares of the business and not himself. Confusing. Oh well they got caught in the end. Good riddance bad and greedy people. Good job Camila for putting that selfish and spoiled boy on the right path. Thank you.
An entertaining read. A spoiled rich kid. An independent girl. Their journey into love with misunderstandings and turncoat friends. With strong attraction and changing lifestyles. Lots of steam. Lots of feels. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is a wonderful collection of stories that will give you hours of reading enjoyment. Each has its own storyline and wonderful characters that pull you into their stories and keep you reading and wanting more! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Came close to giving up on these books but I persevered and read them all. I'm used to Mya Grey's books having more excitement and tension in them, this is more of a plod along. I did like the fact that the books are longer and in a set instead of having to buy individual short stories.
I loved it. The only thing is I have been left wanting more. I have so many questions. Other than those unanswered questions the series was quite good. Now, I'm off to find more of Mya Grey's books to read!
I have to say that this is one of those box sets where the cover grabs you and you hope the books will live up to it - well they did! The stories have so much going for them, they are well-written, fast-paced and have super characters who have an amazing connection/chemistry. I loved reading this set!
You get so much with this book set! Great characters with chemistry to die for and so much drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat! A very recommend set
