Perfect Wreckage

My past taught me to play it safe.
To stay far away from handsome men who promised it all.
My life was good without them. Stable, secure, predictable.

But one kiss showed me that I’d been playing it safe for far too long.
One night, and all I wanted was more of his wildfire.
One challenge and my carefully constructed walls tumbled down.

Amidst the rubble, I realized there was more to this man than I ever dreamed.
When everything fell apart, he showed me what it meant to stay.
How to truly live.

But when my demons return, that life might end up shorter than either of us expected…

... A story about loss and learning how to live again.

You may not agree with me, but Catherine Cowles can do no wrong. Leave it to her to write stories that tugs at your heartstrings, and so hopeful, and that shows what true love between a lover, a friend, and a family should be. This book was written in such an easy and expressive manner, making everything it encompasses relatable and impactful.

Note: This is a romantic suspense.

“Don’t let other people’s ignorance influence your value. You’re so much more than they could ever see."

Kenna suffered a lot of heartbreaks since a very young age. Maybe, the day she was born. The people who was supposed to take care of her and love her, were those who betrayed her, hated her, and treated her like a trash. They said, "being alone is one of the most terrifying things in the world." I couldn't agree more with that. Kenna was fortunate that even though those she loved with all her heart and soul abandoned her, she had Harriet, her best friends, and Crosby. People who cared for her and offered her a shoulder she could always lean on to. And importantly, that stays.

"People underestimated the gift of holding steady, of just being present. But I knew the truth. To stay was the greatest gift of all."

One of the things the shines the brightest about this book was the author's writing. It was easy and effortless to connect with the story and the characters because of it. I could understand the main characters on a deeper level. I saw the pain in their hearts, the uncertainty in their eyes, and the fear in their minds. The writing was absolutely captivating, a bridge to a great characterization. And with regards to the romance aspect, I am in total loss of words. It was just so freaking beautiful. Crosby and Kenna were simply gorgeous together.

Overall, I loved the book. Hell, I loved the series. I was instantly hooked since I finished Reckless Memories. It was unexpectedly great, to be honest. I was looking for an angsty and gut-wrenching second chance, and it delivered. Looking forward to the rest of the books in the series!

“Some of the most beautiful things don’t fit into a mold of perfection. Hell, I’d say perfection is pretty damn boring. Look around us. None of these islands are perfectly symmetrical, the ocean isn’t one color, that tree is growing sideways. It’s the imperfections that make them beautiful."

Perfect Wreckage is book two in the Wrecked series by Catherine Cowles. In the first book, Reckless Memories, we met three best friends, Bell, Caelyn and Kenna. The first book was Bell and Ford’s story. Now it’s Kenna’s turn.

Kenna might not have been very lucky in who her biological mother was, but she was very lucky to have Harriet in her life, the woman that has raised her since she was eleven years old. Ever since Harriet took her in, Kenna has lived with her on her estate, The Gables. It’s Kenna’s safe place, her home, her peace.

Crosby McCoy is the resident lawyer on Anchor Island. Crosby grew up privileged but walked away from the life his parents chose for him to a life of freedom on the island. Crosby finally was able to discover who he really was, be a man he could be proud of.

Kenna and Crosby might have had a bit of a cantankerous relationship, both going on assumptions of what the other was really like. Kenna lived her life buttoned up, safe, everything in order. She might give the impression of being stuffy. And Crosby gave the impression that he was careless, flighty, a bit wild. But when circumstances bring them closer together and they take the time to really get to know each other, they both realized just how wrong they were about the other.

“People underestimated the gift of holding steady, of just being present. But I knew the truth. To stay was the greatest gift of all.”

man and woman paddle boarding - Google Search

Kenna and Crosby grow closer and Kenna is forced to rely on Crosby. He also challenges her, takes her on adventures, forcing her to live outside of her safe box, to experience life in a way she never has. Instead of scaring her, it opens her eyes to a beauty she wasn’t even aware of. Crosby finds himself craving Kenna’s company, wanting something from her he swore he never would again.

“It was as if his arms might be able to hold me together. Keep me from breaking when the world was falling down around me.”

HEY moon, don't you go down.

This was such a beautifully told story. I loved Kenna and Crosby together. Of course, every book needs an evil villain and this book most definitely has one, actually more than one. It’s the perfect mix of sweet, steamy and suspense. And of course, the epilogue was perfect! The next book will be Caelyn’s story in Wrecked Palace. I can’t wait.

I enjoyed Kenna and Crosby’s story and I thought they were both great characters. I’ve been loving small town romances lately, but the two books in this series just haven’t hit the spot for me. There was nothing wrong with it, I just don’t think the suspense aspects are working for me.

‘I’d been left in wreckage, broken pieces that would never fit together perfectly again.’

Perfect Wreckage is the second standalone in the Wrecked Series by Catherine Cowles. We’re loving our journey through the series, getting to know the characters through each book, and you can bet we’ll be here for the whole series! A small town emotional romance that encapsulates friendship, love with a powerful message about not letting your past define you. Not to mention the wonderful writing!

‘I had spent so much of my life trying to avoid the very pain I was walking straight towards.’

Set on Anchor Island, Catherine Cowles once again captured the exquisite surroundings, transporting Anchor Island from the pages and into our imaginations as we followed the relationship between Kenna Morgan and Crosby McCoy. Kenna is a successful Accountant with a past that ties her to Anchor Island. Along with the memories, comes all the pain Kenna endured as a young girl, and this lady broke our hearts.

Crosby left behind his wealthy life in Boston to set up a business and is now a successful lawyer, happily calling Anchor Island home, and wow we loved this man! Carefree and happy go lucky, Crosby’s outer shell hid a world of hurt which caused him to doubt his ability to love and settle down.

“I’m in this for as long as it lasts. I might not be able to give you forever, but I’ll give you all of me while we’re here.”
‘Having all of him meant that it would hurt that much more when it was over. But I couldn’t seem to force myself to walk away.’

Whilst Jack and Kenna’s initial relationship consisted of bickering banter and basically trying to get a rise out of one another, they soon realised their vulnerabilities connected them on a deeper level, with the outcome of their relationship and the obstacles they endure, hitting us right in the hearts.

‘Crosby and I had more in common than I’d thought. It didn’t matter if a child had every toy in the world or just three. It didn’t change the pain of being ignored.’

Anyone who loves their stories with a breathtaking setting, wonderfully relatable characters who are written with heartfelt emotion, wit and endearing prose then you need to add this series to your TBR's! As the walls crumbled, so did our hearts. What a fabulous series! We're officially hooked!

5 With Everything I Am CROWNS

Perfect Wreckless is the epitome of what contemporary romance should be. I swooned, I sighed, and I laughed. I was swept away by the romance and completely entertained by the plot. It was the perfect book to get me out of my slump.

Crosby was utterly dreamy. The man who doesn’t want to settle down, but unlike the playboy hero we tend to meet often in romance, Crosby had legitimate reasons for his need to be single. He couldn’t hide his heart of gold, though, and I’m a sucker for an adventurer, live-in-the-moment, love you right kind of man.

Kenna was such a fabulous heroine. I love the outright alpha heroines, but there is something to be said for the quiet ones with subtle strength. They are more relatable; you can see yourself in them. I absolutely loved that she said what she needed and what she wanted, and she worked for it. She had a dream and wouldn’t let anyone deter her.

The story was engaging. I’m a fan of outside conflict, and while Crosby and Kenna has their issues to work through, I love the suspense element the outside conflict provided. I loved how it affect and changed each character, and the overall themes that developed. It was truly an wonderful read.

This is my second book by Catherine Cowles and it won’t be my last. I love this little town she has created, and I’ve enjoyed each story. These standalones have it all. The romance, the steam and a touch of suspense to keep the story interesting. Definitely a must read for me!

***If you love audiobooks, oneclick this one. Both narrators were fantastic. They really brought the characters and story to life, and I found myself talking to my audiobook when big events happened. A must listen for sure.

Perfect Wreckage is the second book in the Wrecked series by Catherine Cowles. Told in dual perspectives. This is Kenna Morgan and Crosby McCoy's story. A sweet, sexy and suspenseful story that I absolutely loved!

Crosby was completely swoon worthy. He was a sexy, charming, easy-going and fun-loving guy with a heart of gold. But he had no plans to settle down, and for good reason too. He was burned in the past, which is why he moved back home to Anchor Island. A place where he practiced law, but also worked with an organization to make sure that kids were placed into healthy and safe foster homes. There was nothing not to love about this man.

Kenna was a fantastic heroine. She was quiet, kind and strong, but she played it safe when it came to men. She had also been burned by love in the past. But then Crosby happened. He challenged her, took her on adventures and taught her what it was like to truly live. Little by little her walls began to crumble down, and she realized she wanted more with this man. More than just one night. And she worked hard for the things that she wanted.

This was such a beautiful and magical love story. I absolutely loved Kenna and Crosby. They turned out to be exactly what each other needed. Their story made me smile, sigh and swoon. If you're looking for a romance filled to the brim with humor, heart and heat, then please be sure to pick this one up. Five stars and more for Kenna, Crosby and Perfect Wreckage!

5 stars for Perfect Wreckage!

Leave it to Catherine to leave me wrecked again with another stand out release! This is contemporary romance. I feel like I experienced every emotion, heavy on the swoon. Just when I think I have found my perfect CC hero, she goes and creates Crosby. Help. My. Life. Damn he loved Kenna good! He truly made her broken pieces whole. She was hurt so badly. I mean my own heart ached over her experience and I could feel and understand the walls she erected to protect her heart. Then came Crosby...

Catherine makes good Alpha females. Don’t get me wrong, they don’t dominate their men (that’s a turn off for me), but they are strong and independent and take no sh*t. She was so laser focused as to what she wanted in life. Yass Queen!

“I love you with everything I have and everything I am. Please let me love you.”

“One day, this woman would see herself as I did. Strong because she’d been broken. Loving because she’d been hurt. Perfect in all her imperfections.”

Kenna was perfect wreckage. Bravo, Catherine!

Catherine Cowles shares such an endearingly addictive read, immersed with entertaining characters, full of heart, and a hint of danger.

Cloaked with a fierce and sassy exterior, we are introduced to a heroine broken from betrayal, abandonment, and tragedy. When devastating news upends her life, she finds herself fighting to keep things together. However, when she accepts a challenge from the smouldering sweet-talker Crosby, Kenna unexpectedly discovers herself embracing uncertainty, rising above her fears, building trust, and risking her heart. However, when the past emerges and threatens to destroy her future, peril quickly ensues.

Cowles molds relatable and well rounded characters, though dissimilar, they perfectly complement one another. As a reader we could not help , but be compelled to invest in this heroine and hero’s journey as they were driven by such warmth and compassion.

Now...we impatiently await the next installment of this series!

I really wish I loved this one more, but this one was just too slow for me and I didn't absolutely love this couple. The romance was sweet enough. Kenna's mother wasn't a good person and she ended up being raised by a very sweet woman. Crosby is a lawyer on the island and he help works with kids in foster care. Kenna and Crosby don't get a long at first, but they have explosive chemistry and soon start hooking up. Kenna's ex shows up and is trying to take something way from her, which is something Kenna now has to deal with. She definitely has an emotional past and is hesitant to open up to Crosby. Overall the story was kind of forgettable and I wasn't super invested in the romance. I definitely loved books one and three a lot more than this one.

"Don't let other people's ignorance influence your value."

I know without a shadow of a doubt that any time I pick up one of Catherine’s books, I’m in for a good read, a great storyline, and some amazing characters. Once again, she allowed me the comfort of a small town romance with sweetness while throwing in some drama, but all the while keeping me entertained. I feel like she’s a great go to for me when I need to slow down and settle into a sweet and sexy read, when I need a guaranteed good love story that I know is going to give me all the feels when it comes to romance, character development, and amazing side characters. And, as usual, she always teases me about the next book coming, ensuring I'll be coming back for more. No questions asked.

I really loved this one. The story arc that carried over from the first book didn't interfere with this being a complete standalone - and that's what I enjoy. Cowles really understands how to give an entire story, encompassing the characters from other books in the series, but not giving anything away. SO GOOD!! I'm so thankful for that too. There were so many things going on, but the central focus being the growth between Crosby and Kenna was really well thought out/plotted/written because little by little, watching them come out of their shells was the best part of the story. Putting their relationship into perspective - that is what pushed the book for me. Her words flow effortlessly and she's always super easy to follow. It was just a great book to read after a rough patch of books that weren't working for me, so once again - I'm thankful for her and her stories!!

Kenna had so many emotional barriers that this story intrigued me from the first mention in Reckless Memories - I just knew I needed her story. Cowles didn't disappoint. Her story had some heartbreaking moments and some shoulder-shaking moments, but the growth was the. best. part. Kenna's strength was only matched by her stubbornness, and she was quite relatable. The only thing I couldn't really connect with was her struggle on one aspect because my personal reaction was quite different - so watching her work her way through it was on a very different emotional scale for me. Not bad. Not good. Just .... different.

Crosby, you sly-smiling, heart-stuttering, smartass of a man. His personality really sealed the deal for me. He was more human....he felt more real to me. He made mistakes, but he more than made up for those mistakes with the direction from within his heart. I fell head over heels for him almost immediately, and by the time I closed the book I was completely enamored. Real, flawed, honest, and protective. All man.

"If you really want to live your life to the fullest, you have to let go of who you think you should be and let yourself become who you truly are."

This was another suspenseful romantic drama that had me seeing red at some of the character's actions, and I literally wanted to leap through the pages at the antagonist and strangle them. But....with that intense anger came the chill-worthy professions and actions of Crosby, leaving me with a soft sigh of relief. He really is a sweetheart mixed with a smidgeon of hilarity and I loved him! I just loved him!!

Thinking I only had one more book in the Wrecked Series made me smile - but knowing there are three more coming has me anxiously guessing who the final two books will be about. I am absolutely loving this group of characters and their little island, small town life and I am super excited about Griffin and Caelyn's book next, Wrecked Palace.

In Perfect Wreckage we have a story where I was a bit nervous to read this one here. I had heard some mixed things about "Perfect Wreckage" and to be honest I just jumped into this one. I didn't really know what it was about, but at this point, I know that I can trust Catherine Cowles to deliver a good story. And so what we have with this one is a bit of a unrequited love, a fun playful hero, and a prickly heroine and some suspense elements along the way to help keep the plot moving. And honestly, I adored this book. I listened to it completely in Audio and honestly this one was just delightful. I was so charmed by the romance and the growth of the heroine, and it just delivered on all fronts.

What was really moving for me was the heroine. We see her go through so much change in this book. We do see her as a young teenager and having her go through a betrayal and it was so hard to see her and knowing that she had suffered that. We also see the way in which the hero has to fight for her and its one heck of a battle. She has gone through such hardships, but the hero is persistent and such a steady presence for her. We see how well he is such a foundation for her. I personally didn't understand his struggle in the relationship quite as much. Its done well, he has also suffered hurt in a previous relationship, but honestly, I did feel like you could go forward with this story with the storyline of him not being fully in the relationship in the third act there. But Catherine Cowles was still able to make this work completely for me and I was so endeared by this one here.

There are some aspects of suspense which I really enjoyed. I wouldn't full out call this a romantic suspense. The suspenseful elements are in the background of the story and aren't 100% present throughout. So that is something to keep in mind when reading this one. The romance is very well focused in this book, and I actually love the way in which this author adds in suspense. Because it's done in a way that will work for both fans of contemporary or suspense. Another aspect I enjoyed was the way in which the heroine is written. She is written in such a way that will immediately work for you. I can be so nervous with prickly heroines, but she is fantastic! I loved the way in which we see so many vulnerable moments that makes her so relatable to the reader. Seeing her transformation is such a beautiful thing to witness and I honestly can't wait for the next one coming up. Catherine Cowles is just winning my heart so quickly!

Overall I found Perfect Wreckage to be a true delight and eager for more!

Perfect Wreckage is not exactly a winner for me. I was expecting much fron Miss Cowles but she falls short delivering the story.

I found the plot is boring, the characters are likeable and sweet. Not enough plot and twist. Not enough drama to uplift the story.

Catherine Cowle's writing never fails to completely reel me in from the first chapter. And this prologue was a hard one to read, she had me tearing up already and it proceeded to happen a lot in the first half of the book. Perfect Wreckage really was an emotional read for me, there were scenes that just really got to me and I couldn't help but tear up. My heart hurt so much for Kenna and everything she has been through in life. Her story is sad and she did not deserve any of it because she was such an amazing person who just wanted to love freely. Just thinking about her past and then everything she is put through in this book has my heart hurting.

Crosby was such a ray of sunshine in her life and in the book though. I loved him to bits. He is such an amazing man. Of course he too has been through something that has him a little broken when it comes to love. He refuses to open his heart again to a relationship but it's impossible to not fall in love with Kenna, specially when they spend so much time together and she lets him in.

These two were so swoon worthy. Their friends with benefits deal and their growing friendship and all the feelings they had for each other and the fact that Crosby was just there for Kenna every step of the way, fighting with her, for her and having her enjoying life and stepping out of her boring and safe routine. I absolutely love Harriet, she's an absolute gem and I am so glad Kenna had her. She was the only true family she really had, besides Bell and Caelyn.

Perfect Wreckage was the perfect emotional read. A swoony, funny hero that you'll fall for in a blink of an eye, a heroine you will feel so much for and a truly beautiful story about giving love a second chance, living life to the fullest and fighting for justice and the people you love. Crosby and Kenna had an amazing chemistry, a beautiful connection and such a fun banter. Y'all will love these two <3

I gotta say this was not your usual romantic suspense from Catherine, you knew exactly what the problem and who the bad guy were, we were really just waiting to see the outcome of the situation and how far that awful family was willing to go for money they did not deserve. But even though, it's a little different from Catherine's MO, it was a BEAUTIFUL emotional story that will make your heart ache but also make you smile at the beauty of life and love. And as always, the writing is magnificent.

I FREAKING FLEW THROUGH THIS BOOK!!!! The audiobook was perfection.

I was so excited for Kenna’s story & it did NOT DISAPPOINT! I don’t know what magical brain Catherine cowles has but it is a beautiful thing. Kennas story was heartbreaking but that made the ending that much more amazing!!! The epilogue had me grabbing my chest & pushing the life alert button.

Crosby was so freaking precious & hot. I loved everything about him if we’re being honest. The way he always messed with Kenna. Didn’t give up. Tried to stay happy even with all the demons inside him.

Also I was NOT READY FOR ALL THE HEAT?! This one was definitely more than her average & it came pretty quickly 🫡😛

Kenna has recently lost someone dear to her heart, someone who has taken care of her and shown her the unconditional love she never received in her own home. As she struggles to deal with how life will change and go on now she receives news she was not expecting. Her future doesn’t seem as uncertain now and despite her grief, she hopes to move forward with some plans she has.

What she was not expecting was her slimey ex to come knocking on her front door. This is not a friendly visit, she has something that he wants and he will not back down until she gives into his demands. This guy is such a douche canoe and has completely underestimated the girl he hasn’t seen since they were teenagers.

Crosby has this overwhelming need to keep a close eye on Kenna, to be fair he has had his eyes on her for a while now but now that things are getting complicated in her life, his protective instinct kicks in. Whenever she is at the local bar he likes to give her a bit of stick but it’s all in good fun, he knows she can take it.

Kenna lives a structured life, she takes no risks and is very routined. Kenna sets out to show her how being spontaneous and taking risks is fun. He wants to break down those walls a little bit and in doing so explore the chemistry between them.

‘Come on, Brown Eyes. Live dangerously.’

Crosby may enjoy living an adventure filled life but he too has his own boundaries. They both have pasts that have left them with reasons to not get too involved with anyone else. Kenna is seeing a completely different side to him though and it has her wanting things she knows she cannot have with him. Maybe he is in her life for a reason, to help heal her so she move on to a life with someone she can really have a future with.

‘Life is messy and terrifying, but it is also crazy beautiful. You taught me that. You showed me that my wreckage could be perfect in it’s own way, that all those little cracks in my soul just made me stronger, more beautiful. Truly and authentically me. You taught me what it means to truly live.’

This is the second story in the Wrecked series. This can be read as a stand alone but if you have read the first book you will already be familiar with this couple. I really enjoyed getting to know more about these two and the little glimpses of Ford and Belle. Great second instalment in this series.

3.5 ⭐⭐⭐✩

Before anything else, I just have to say: Whatever brand of birth control pills it was that Kenna was using? SHOULD BE PHASED OUT. Seriously, she was taking these pills AND was using condoms with both her ex and then Crosby and she STILL got pregnant. BOTH times. And even though both her ex and Crosby didn’t use a condom just once or twice (only once for Crosby at that while they were in the shower apparently), what were the odds that those couple times were the times she could get pregnant?? It was either Kenna was HELLA FERTILE or Grant and Crosby’s sperms were just super overachievers LOL. So for your own protection and peace of mind, DO NOT USE THAT SAME CONTRACEPTIVE KENNA WAS USING BECAUSE IT WILL SCREW YOU OVER, BIGTIME.

Okay, that aside, I actually liked this book for the most part. In the beginning though I found it hard to like Kenna being that she came off as aloof and judgmental. But as you get to know her more throughout the book, you get to understand why she is the way she is and why she puts up a cold mask with everyone around her (aside from her very tiny inner circle) — and that’s to protect herself. I did end up empathizing with her once I got to know more about her and her past, which let me to warm up to her. Crosby, on the other hand, I liked from the beginning. He did also have his flaws which, too, stemmed from everything he went through in the past so I also did my best to try and understand him, the things he ended up saying, and the things he ended up doing (even though I wanted to dive in and shake him that one time). And Grant and his parents but especially Grant... Bah I'm glad he didn't get off easily in the end, but I was really wishing he would end up getting lost in the woods and get eaten by a very hungry and sadistic bear instead... with the bear tearing off and eating one limb a day just so he suffers for a long while.

Anyway, this was my first read from this author but it definitely won’t be my last. I really liked the writing style and the way she tells the story. Also, I am itching to read the next book about Caelyn and Griffin — just from those two super duper brief scenes with them in this book, I already know their story will be off the charts and I want MORE! I just KNOW I’m going to like their book more than this one. It’s one of those gut feelings I have no doubts about. Having said that, this is me diving head first into book 3!!!

FYI, in case ya’ll are wondering why I didn’t start with book 1, it was just a personal decision. Meaning I usually prefer to skip books with the sister’s ex trope because double dipping really ain’t mah thing, especially if the H was in love with the sister first. But I did enjoy Bell and Ford’s presence in this book and I’m glad they got their HEA.

**********
This was pretty ok, I have a vague sense of dissatisfaction but I can't pinpoint why.

Secondary characters from previous book and books to come. I didn't read book 1

No cheating
h had a miscarriage as a teen and was attacked here
They've known each other I believe 4 years and it seems they've both dated others
Ex drama as his ex wanted him back, ex drama for her as her ex and his family were the ones fighting her claim on her home. He viciously attacked her. One of my issues was that we didn't see him get jail time

Catherine is back with the second installment in the Wrecked Series, and I have to say I was totally blown away!

The chemistry between Crosby and Kenna is unbelievable. I would name their troupe as “Frienemies”. Mutual friends, but Crosby is a total jokester and the banter between them is unreal. When we first met Crosby in Reckless Memories, I just immediately lumped him into the “jokester” or funny guy of the series. In this book you really see the man behind the jokes and banter. You see his true colors, and let me just say… he will steal your heart!

“One day, this woman would see herself as I did. Strong because she’d been broken. Loving because she’d been hurt. Perfect in all of her imperfections.”

If you want to be taken away to another place, you need to pick up Perfect Wreckage, you won’t be able to put it down. There is so much heart and emotions packed into this book.

“If you really want to live your life to the fullest, you have to let go of who you think you should be and let yourself become who you truly are.”

Perfect Wreckage is a stand alone within a series. You can pick it up without reading Reckless Memories, but for the full impact, I would suggest starting with Reckless Memories where you meet Bell and Ford.

Perfect Wreckage is a small town, “Frienemies”, enemies to lovers with scorching hot chemistry along with a dash of the Catherine Cowles suspense we have all grown to love.

This is such a wonderful small town romance. Perfection. I loved everything about it. It is such a strong follow-up to Reckless Memories. I loved Kenna and Crosby's story so much. I felt that he was the portrayed as the funny guy in the first book and that is so not the case. His story developed him so much more and, besides his hang-up with commitment, he was a pretty great book boyfriend.

Kenna has had a rough life. Her drunk of a mom was pretty non-existent in her life. She went to live with Harriet when she was eleven years old. She started dating Grant (who happens to be Harriet's grandson) and accidentally got pregnant by him when she was eighteen. He didn't take the news well and basically called her a liar and a manipulator.

When Harriet passes away, she is leaves something to Kenna that Grant and his family want and will do anything to get. Luckily, Crosby is Harriet's lawyer and is there to help Kenna. I loved the added outside conflict in this story, besides that of the relationship issues that each Kenna and Crosby brought with them.

This is the second book in the Wrecked series and can be read as a standalone. I wouldn't recommend it, though. It was nice to see the familiar characters from the first book and see how their story is developing.

Thank you to Social Butterfly PR and the author for a digital advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Perfect Wreckage by Catherine Cowles
🌶️🌶️
⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Her strength, her fire, her empathy, they weren’t things to hide away. They were the most beautiful things about her."

In the second book in the series, we get to meet Kenna, one of Bell's closest friends, and Crosby, home we already know from the first book. They had such a delightful and witty exchanges in the first book that hinted at a possible romance between them. What stood out to me was the author's writing style- it's so easy and natural to read, and it helps you connect with the story and characters on a deeper level. I loved getting to know the main characters better and seeing how their relationships developed throughout the book.

"If you really want to live your life to the fullest, you have to let go of who you think you should be and let yourself become who you truly are."

Kenna is an accomplished accountant who has had a difficult past. She has always been very organized and careful in her life and has a personality that is both reserved and compassionate. However, she tends to avoid taking risks when it comes to relationships, due to the terrible heartbreak she has experienced from a young age. Crosby helped her to break out of her she'll and showed her how to enjoy life to the fullest. Despite being hurt in the past, she remained determined to find love and start a family, and never let anything discourage her.

"You showed me that my wreckage could be perfect in its own way, that all those little cracks in my soul just made me stronger, more beautiful."

Crosby is the local lawyer who possesses a charming, attractive, and relaxed personality while having a kind and compassionate heart. Despite his calm demeanor, he endured emotional pain that made him doubt his capacity to love and to commit to a long-term relationship. He comes from a wealthy family, but he chose to leave it all behind and carve out a life of his own. As Kenna and Crosby spend more time together, they develop a deeper bond, and Crosby realizes that he wants her companionship more than he ever thought he would.

Overall, I really adored this book! Kenna and Crosby's relationship had me hooked from start to finish, and I'm eagerly looking forward to diving into the next book in the series.

"I was holding so tightly to this messed-up idea of freedom, when all it was were walls to keep people out. But it doesn’t matter because you snuck behind them anyway."

“Life is messy and terrifying, but it is also crazy beautiful. You taught me that. You showed me that my wreckage could be perfect in its own way, that all those little cracks in my soul just made me stronger, more beautiful. Truly and authentically me. You taught me what it means to truly live.”

What a beautiful slow burn romance (and a little suspense) this story was! This was my first book from this author but it definitely won’t be my last! I was lucky enough to receive an ARC and I’m so glad I did!

This is a story of two people with broken hearts slowly mending each other’s worlds.
And it was a hard journey for Kenna. Her life was never easy but possibly the strongest woman I’ve read about in a long time. She never faltered. She made a life for herself.
Crosby. Let me swoon for this man. His snarky personality and love for adventure and nature made me love him quick.

This book has No cliffhanger and ends on a really beautiful HEA.

Book #2 of the Wrecked Series

“Life is messy and terrifying, but it is also crazy beautiful. You taught me that. You showed me that my wreckage could be perfect in its own way, that all those little cracks in my soul just made me stronger, more beautiful. Truly and authentically me. You taught me what it means to truly live.”

<><>Story Overview<><>
Crosby and Kenna were introduced in book one and their interactions were mostly barbs where they tried to get a rise out of each other.
- “You’re jealous.”
My temper spiked, cranking up my internal temperature. “Of what? A woman with the IQ of a raisin?”
Crosby’s smile widened, and he took a step closer. “What do you have against raisins? They make a great snack.”

In book two, Kenna ends up in a legal battle and Crosby is there to help her through it. As they spend more time together and get to know each other, the attraction heats up and their chemistry can’t be denied.
~ “I’d let so many of my past wounds blind me to who Crosby truly was. Now, though, my eyes were fully open. He wasn’t perfect by any means. But the core of who he was, consisted entirely of kindness and protection.”

But Crosby doesn’t want to lose his freedom to go on his outdoor adventures and Kenna doesn’t want to continue to lose people she cares about. At some point, Crosby will have his lightbulb moment when he realizes life is better when shared.
~ “I’m not trying to steal your freedom.” Tears gathered at the corners of my eyes. “I never want to chain you down. I just wanted to give you more life to experience.”

~ “I love you with everything I have and everything I am. Please let me love you.”

<><>Characters<><>
<>Hero: Crosby McCoy, Age: late 20’s, Occupation: lawyer
~ Crosby isn’t a stuffy lawyer and likes to be outdoors experiencing life. He comes from a wealthy family and has an ex that cheated on him with his best friend. He wants nothing to do with his family’s lifestyle / strings and left Boston to create a life for himself on Anchor Island. He volunteers at Shelter Island Child Alliance and has an adorable “buddy” named Zoe.

<>Heroine: Kenna Morgan, Age: 27, Occupation: Accountant
~ Kenna didn’t have a good childhood until the age of eleven when she was placed with Harriet. From then on, Kenna knew what it meant to have a stable, loving home. Although Harriet lived on an estate (The Gables) and was wealthy, the way she loved Kenna was more valuable than any amount of riches. However, Kenna still had her insecurities to work through.
~ “I’d already realized just how much I was missing out on by sticking to my strict and narrow path, this preconceived notion of what a safe life would look like. That no one would walk away from me if I could just be perfect. But maybe I’d missed the most important thing of all. That I had what I needed inside of me, and it had been there all along.”

<><>What I Liked<><>
~ the details, testimony and cross examinations for the trial were not described in detail. Thank you!! I got enough information without being overloaded with boring trial testimony.

~ I liked Crosby and the way he pushed Kenna out of her comfort zone by getting her out and experiencing life.

~ I’m not a fan of the “he’s going to walk away so I need to cut him lose now” trope. But I did like that Kenna decided to go for it anyway

~ loved the friendship between Bell, Kenna and Caelyn

~ Zoe brings the cute kid element and I thought she added something to the story.

<><>What I Didn’t Like<><>
~ Although Grant was a jerk, I didn’t get the feeling he was violent. So his actions at the end of the book didn’t seem consistent with the character created. This just felt out of place with the rest of the book.

~ I needed an epilogue that included Crosby, Kenna and Zoe

~ to some extent, Crosby was very similar to Bell’s character from book one. The notion that if he didn’t play by their rules and follow what they wanted for his life he’d just cease to exist to them. It felt a little bit like Déjà vu.

<><>The Basics<><>
- Content Warning: physical assault, miscarriage, loss of loved one
- Setting: Anchor Island (near Washington)
- Do you need to read previous books in series?: I would say yes. In book one, the reader is introduced to three best friends (Bell, Caelyn and Kenna). The connection between these three girls was really established in that book. Seeing as the girls (and now Ford- H from book one) are very present in this book, the reader would benefit from reading this series in order.
- POV: Dual POV
- Hero likeable? yes. Crosby was described as a carefree adventurer with a bit of boyish energy.
- heroine likeable? yes. Kenna was a character who grew in strength as the story moved along.
- h virgin? No
- First time they kiss: 24%
- First time they sleep together: 26%
- Safe sex? Yes. Condoms were used
- First time they say I Love You: 94%
- steamy? Yes. Descriptive bedroom scenes
- Chemistry? I thought they had good chemistry
- OW/OM drama? a tiny bit. Crosby’s ex shows up but Crosby is not interested in her at all
- H/h cheat? No
- Time apart? No
- Did I skip pages? No
- Big secrets? No
- Did I cry? No
- Did I laugh? No
- Did I swoon🥰? Yes. Crosby giving his time to the child alliance group and his interactions with Zoe made me swoon a few times
- Cliffhanger? No
- HEA? Yes
- Epilogue? Two weeks later
- Recommend? Yes

Every time I read a Catherine Cowles book I’m guaranteed to be floored. And that was exactly the case after reading Perfect Wreckage. From the very first page I was hooked with the prologue and it was only a matter of time before this story and the characters overtook me.

My heart was a complete mess over Kenna. Everything that she endured cut me to the core. Not only did I want, but I needed for her to find happiness. She was so strong and resilient—a true fighter. All she wanted was stability and love and to be enough to stay for.

Crosby is such an amazing man. I loved his playfulness and how he always seemed to get under Kenna’s skin. He too has been through some things that have made him hesitant on relationships and love. But once he starts spending time with Kenna those should he or shouldn’t he lines get blurred and it’s impossible not to feel things for her because he’s already falling.

Kenna and Crosby were something magical. I loved how Crosby helped Kenna out of her shell and made her see how much out of life she’d been missing. I loved the progression of their friendship and how it eventually turned into something more. Their banter had me giddy and them just being together had me swooning. They brought out the best in each other and were just so perfect together.

Perfect Wreckage was a beautiful and emotionally charged story about a second chance at love and finding happiness. With an abundance of tender moments and filled with hope. Kenna and Crosby’s romance was exceptional. Another marvelous addition to The Wrecked Series, Catherine did and outstanding job and I can’t wait for more and I can’t wait to return to Anchor Island.

Catherine WRECKed me! She continues to literally pull me into every book she writes and I’ll be here as long as she writes.
This book follows Kenna and Crosby. Kenna is a beautiful character who has been to horrible places and back, yet she continues to try and move forward. Crosby has a bit of a past too and it becomes hard for him to truly open up to Kenna but Crosby is what Kenna truly needed in every way. He was just there for her and he helped her see that not everyone is terrible like the people from her past, even when those people come back to haunt her. Crosby was great with bringing more light into her life. I truly felt so sad for Kenna and everything she had to deal with, she was a great character, that I was happy to see gain happier moments. Crosby and Kenna story was everything, it was emotional, romantic, beautiful, sad and just a page turner. Just like Catherine’s other books, I love the side character interactions with the main characters. The side characters always have such major rules and I loved seeing how important Kenna was too a lot of them!

This book has absolutely consumed me. It has been half a day now since I finished it and I am still trying to find words that will do justice to this amazing story.
Perfect wreckage is book two in the wrecked series. We follow Kenna, and discover her heartbreaking past, her devastating present and hopefully her journey to a brighter future.
Crosby is guarded but is an easy going thrill seeker, intent on pushing all of Kenna's buttons!
Once again Cowles has managed to completely take over my soul with her words. I absolutely love her writing style and her research is always completely on point. There is just something in the way she writes about certain things where I feel like she's ripped these feelings straight out of me and smooshed them into her book.
Get your tissues ready. This is one emotional book!

Small town romance perfection!!

Perfect Wreckage is SO good! I loved every bit of this book. From the crushing moments to the hot steamy ones I couldn’t put it down!

Crosby is a care free thrill seeking lawyer who does not want to be tied down. Kenna strives for perfection in all aspects of her life due to past circumstances. Between having an embarrassing drunk for a Mom and being taunted all her life it’s no wonder she hides from the world. When an unlikely deal is struck between these two things start to change. While he makes her live a little she opens his heart. These two go thru so much in this book and it’ll crack your heart right open.

I love this little island town and it’s inhabitants and am definitely looking forward to more!
