The Rise of Magic Omnibusincludes the first full 2-arcs of the series (books 1-8):
C.M. Raymond holds a PhD in philosophy, which qualifies him to write pop fiction but not much else. His home is in a river valley of Western Pennsylvania.
Outside of reading and writing, he loves to spend time with his family in the woods and wilds or the city streets.
You can also check out his Steel City Heroes saga and fast-paced thrillers, The Jack Carson Stories (beginning with The Devil's Due).
Some are better than others.. it's a lot of reading and some of them kinda jump to rather sudden perfect solutions..
Like how quickly the Heemites were prepared to drop their total belief in the gods under the mountain.. bit overly simplistic. Also the Tarkans followed Aardyn but switched allegiance almost immediately.. he was overcome and vanquished too easily considering that his forces had overwhelmed and taken the Tarkans.
But I suppose when they are churning books out so fast stuff like that goes by the wayside and gets ignored because the quality isn't the point for readers of these mass publications.. the point is quantity, the point is to take as much as possible from the readers over multiple books rather than producing fewer better written ones that you need to charge more for.. they're also having to pay multiple authors off each book as Anderle farms the job out to writing teams.. hence the need for them to maintain writing as a side job and churn them out at speed.. I am as yet undecided as to whether it really works.. I loved the series written about Juliana, different style, different character.. in this there's discrepancy where Juliana repeatedly references her time hiding as a guard while in a relationship with Marcus, but that is not how it appears here.. the relationship didn't happen and Marcus acted totally out of character without any explanation for the sudden change in his allegiance.. this is what happens when you are passing off sections of a bigger plan to different people, errors appear.. mistakes are made and personalities are recreated that don't fit with the original plan.. I find it difficult to let that go.. I also find the reading order overly complex when things are all happening in different places at the same time and so it's not always straightforward as to what should be read first.
This review is actually for the first four books, which I read in a collection that's no longer available. This first story arc is about a old man who returns to the city he founded, only to discover that his old pupil made it into an oligarchy where only a select few can legally perform magic. He takes under his wing a young woman with a mouth as foul as her magic has potential, and together they lay down the seeds for a revolution. It's not a bad story overall. The writing is snappy with decent descriptions, but typos are common enough. My biggest complaint is that the story is awfully formulaic. There were virtually no surprises for me and few instances of our heroes being brought low. Also, the ending of the third book made me roll my eyes for some very implausible things. A lukewarm recommendation.
Wow! I am ecstatic on an emotional high finishing this omnibus. Few stories can move me to this extent. This whole series is pure gold. You will cherish and protect your memories of reading it, and revisit often. I plan to check out all the other books in this writing universe! So much is packed into these stories. The characters are deeply real. They live and breathe. And kick a$$. I try to pick my favorite, but simply cannot. Each is unique and endearingly close to my heart. Okay, maybe Sal? He is the epitome of cool. I predict you will enjoy these books so immensely you will be thrilled with yourself for choosing to buy the specially priced omnibus. Go ahead, great yourself to some supremely excellent writing!
I just stumbled on this series. I haven't read anything else from the Kurtherian Universe before these. I was sold fast. I thought I'd just give it shot but here I am done with 8 books in under a week and I want more.
The characters are relatable, it has humor, power, love, adversity, a big bad guy, a foul mouth but loveable female protagonist. I wish I knew more people who read these books, I desperately want to talk about them with someone lol.
Although I had some questions about certain characters and their pasts the questions do get answered. Don't feel overwhelmed by the number of books in this universe, it's just more of a great thing! You can just start with this saga but believe me it'll leave you wanting to read everything in this universe.
First, this is a long series of books. I have read the first 8 books. If you do read this series be sure to read the authors' notes at the end of each book. They are very interesting.
The authors have done a great job of character building. This series has everything you would want in a fantasy world. There were a very small amount of editing mistakes, not enough to get upset over. I just thought I would mention them to raise awareness.
In all honesty, I think the series should be made into a television series one day. I'm enjoying the ROM Fantasy world & characters so much that I'm buying the paperbacks for my daughter.
I read the first two books. I tried to like it, but it read like bad fanfiction. MC is overpowered, learns everything immediately (think Hermione Granger to the power of 10), and the pacing is all over the place. Also the moral ciloass of the good guys is also cleanly our of alignment. I don't care what happens next, it's just so sophomoric and juvenile.
Glad I got it for free on Kindle unlimited as I would have done anything to get a refund after it. Don't understand the 5* rating at all. Completely misleading. I'd actually give it a 2, but the current score is so out of touch with reality, I'm giving it a 1.
WOW!! I absolutely LOVED this series! I've never laughed so much. These books are just amazing. Characters you fall in love with. A world that is "vaguely" familiar, and just a whole lot of fun to read. I haven't read anything else in Kurtherian world, but I think I'm going to start. Age of Magic will most likely be my favorite segment though, as I'm more prone to magic, dragons, and sword and sorcery. I want more of Hannah and the triple B's. Next up, Solyrian Conspiracy, and then having to wait for them to write more (which they said they are doing... YAY!!)
This is a pretty good story. Sal and Karl were the best characters I've encountered in a very long time. The comedy among the drama was spot on. This is one of very few series that Michael has been involved with that kept it's timeline. However it is still very poorly edited. Terrible word play at some points as well as unfinished ideas and more. The one battle and gain a ally got very repetitive. Needed more innovation. Good premise though. Grateful the story became way more than it started as.
Never read any of the Kurtherian Gambit series (this follows that series at a later point in time) but find myself wanting to know more about this world. The characters here are engaging (although a bit coarse in their language , at least for my tastes) and the stories are exciting and hard to put down. Looking forward to reading the next books in this series as well as others set in the same universe. Definitely recommend.
More future world, after another apocalypse the world is recovering and some people get greedy and where there once was equality impression is prevalent. Two young people come out of the slums and take on the oppressor. This series of books makes you want to keep reading to the next without stopping. Great fun and good reading.
It’s hard to classify the series as it is basically a bunch of authors enjoying themselves, there is, for me, a lot wrong with the books (idiomatic language continuity most of all) but, the story pulls you a long and it’s fun AND that is what matters- accept there is a fair chunk of tongue stuck in the cheek and just enjoy
This story could have been told in three books instead of eight if you had stuck to the plot line and left out all the unessary swearing, stupid puns, pointless jokes and sexual innuendoes! This added nothing to the books and became too predictable, repetitive and boring! Try to write as a grown-up next time.
Jean meets Gandalf, Conan, Harry and a nice version of Poison Ivy and together, they destroy Sauron's Deathstar. That's the shortlist of characters and a vulgar summary of the plot. Great story. A little cheesy sometimes but well worth the time spent reading! It doesn't get much better than this. Definitely glad I bought the series!!!
I’ve just finished the 8 volume series (some of which I had apparently read in the past). Today is July 10, 2021 so not sure how much of an impact this Review will have, But, I have enjoyed the adventures of each and every chapter of each and every book and would encourage others to take the plunge! Great Job you Guys!!!
I love these books, the characters are adorable, the plot is a little basic and the use of modern day terminology can be annoying at some point as the characters would not understand some of it. But all in all a great read and I will be looking for more. It has to have magic, swords and dragons though. I don't do the modern stuff or futuristic stuff.
It’s like it was written by Jr High boys - constant penis jokes- plus in the beginning recognizes how abuse of alcohol can damage relationships/families then goes on to seemingly advocate abuse of substances & dependence on them…storyline & characterization were decent so I finished the series but was regretting it at the same time…
I read all these books 📚 so damn quickly!!! About 5-6 days I calculated (more or less) ready for book 9!!! I so live BA and definitely Hannah 😍now then again ALL books 📚 that have to do with the KGU thank you 😊 pleaseeeee keep writing ✍️ them 🥰🥰😍😍😘
Same stuff as in the early elite books. The mix of wizardry, low and hi tech stuff really does not work for me. Good enough to read but not a page gripper series for me
I'm a 76 year old grandmother and I loved the ROM Omnibus. The characters are excellently presented. The snarky, dirty-mind innocents kept me laughing guessing and reading right up to the last word. Finis
I am imensely sorry to finish this series but am so looking forward to what is going to happen to all the members of the BBB no matter which way they go. The spin offs are going to keep me reading for a long time. Keep up the great storytelling.
Fantastic storylines , inhabited by colorful characters saving the world from monster domination. It's classic, it's funny and unputdownable!!! I really loathe characters with 'potty month's but I just bout up with because the stories are so good.
The characters are the best part of the rise of magic. The story is engaging, without those annoying large plot holes that drive me nuts. I recommend these books for any Țolkein fan.
Please don’t end this series. All the characters are so well written, you can feel their personalities through the words. Great plots in every book, keep me hooked. Thanks for a great long read!
Great book to read. Kept me from going out and throttling some pitiful politician and the supreme court!! Good over evil!! We need a little more of that in real life!
I loved this series. The characters growing and you see this. I laughed alot.Loved the sense of humor.as the characters grow you end up liking them all.Kudos
