Currently my favorite book on discipleship or perhaps more accurately, followership! I love Hettinga’s concept of “body evangelism,” which he describes as “the witness of the whole Body as it works and fellowships together.” When the Church begins to love fellow believers and come together in fellow-ship, the world will be drawn to Christ! We’ve got to get back to loving one another as Christ loves the Church!

Just how many of us have control issues? Do we work to control our businesses—to be efficient and profitable? How about managing a household? Keeping family members in line? What if we were to surrender our controls to the real Leader? I’m not talking about giving up everything. I’m talking about saying, “OK God, I am putting you in control—I’m going to let you lead the way.” So we transfer our control, (not without challenge), take some time (and I’m not talking about a couple of hours—I’m talking significant quiet time over a period of time) to examine our lives to see what and how we surrender it all.

Some of us are our own leaders (at least we think we are). Some fear giving up that control. Some know no one else can do what we do. Or perhaps—do we follow someone else. Who is the leader we follow? Do we respect them? Do we believe in them? These are all good questions. It took me about a month to read through. Every chapter was meaningful. I finished with the Kingdom in mind. (You’ll need to read this to understand).

How do we conquer control? One bite—I mean, chapter,--at a time….

I love this book, have read several times, recommended to many fellow believers, and given many copies away. Deals with personal control issues, pride and submitting to authority. One of my favorite parts deals with the altered gospel many people receive.
