What makes someone a ghost? Is it being dead, or someone living in the shadows?AB longs to see the world and live the life that was taken from her. Instead she is stuck haunting a house and sapping energy from the fears of those that visit. So, when a family moves in, she sees her opportunity. AB is determined to build enough fear in the family to fuel her escape once and for all.
Finn knows the dangers of putting himself in the spotlight and will not do it again. He keeps to himself and has made himself the perfect routine to stay invisible and safe from the world. Then his father mysteriously packs up his entire family and moves them to a broken-down house in a small town and refuses to tell them why. Anxiety plagues him as he tries to navigate his new life, but strange things happen in his house. Finn is determined to find out what his father is hiding and what it has to do with this new house.
Will AB and Finn get the escape they both desire, or are they both stuck in this house forever?
Sarah Riad, Young Adult author of The Sharp Knife of a Short Life and 364 Days a Year, recently published her third YA novel, A Tale of Two Ghosts. Sarah is currently writing her fourth YA novel, Organ Failure which hopefully during this lockdown she can complete though chances are she'll spend most of her time procrastinating and playing sims.
When she’s not writing (and playing sims), Sarah works as a Legal PA in London whilst studying for a degree in Psychology.
We all have read, at some point in our lives, a book that has remained in our minds forever. That's exactly what Sarah's stories are. They stay with you long after you read them. They are so emotional and even if they are fantasy, they are so real, that there is no way you can remember them. They touch you in an inexplicable way. Your whole being ... heart and soul. Her charecters are so real, that you feel immediate connection with them...even if they are ghosts. Her words make you feel every single emotion that goes through them. I will continue to read and recommend every single book this amazing woman has written and will write, and I sincerely hope there are many more to come. A Tale Of Two Ghosts is about friendship, so unique, that shatters your whole world and believes. A tale about finding your true self. About forgivness and letting go. About two lost souls finding eachother. A story about life and dead. About appreciating every single little thing life can give you and never take it for granted. When Finn and his family moved to an old house his father inherited, none of them are prepared for what or who they will find in there. Someone who will change their lives forever. I loved this book from the bottem of my heart and I recommend it to everyone. Absolutely stunning. It was one of my most anticipated reads and it goes stright to my top 5 books for 2020. Hands down Sarah. That was brilliant and I can't wait for your next read to touch my soul again. I give it all the stars in the world.
I discovered Sarah's books last year after reading 364 Days a Year and I remember thinking the story was unlike anything I had ever read before. It completely blew me away and I ordered her debut book straight away which also didn't leave me disappointed.
When I saw she was releasing another book, I knew I had to get my hands on it and fortunately, I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Before I get to the actual book, I must say that after reading all three books that Sarah has released, it's undeniable that she has a gift in creating stories with real life problems but with a touch of fantasy.
Without giving too much away, A Tale of Two Ghosts is more than just a story about a ghost. It's a story of an unlikely friendship between two teenagers who are lost souls in their own ways. In a short space of time and without really knowing they bring out the best in each other.
The characters, both main and secondary, are beautifully created and feel so real. I love that Sarah creates characters in all her stories that are not perfect. They are all flawed which makes them so relatable, even in a fantasy story. The obvious favourite is AB but for me, Finn will stay with me. He is that quiet kid you saw in school, the colleague that keeps to themselves and the anxious part of us all. Throughout the story, I just wanted to reach out and give him a hug.
As the story went on, I did predict the ending but that didn't take anything away from the story and still left me having to grab for a tissue.
I loved this story. I loved its message and the little journey it took me on.
Is it too soon to ask when the next book from Riad is out? I already can't wait!
I was sent a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via the author.
Sarah Riad has done it again! This book was such a heartwarming and beautifully created read that I had tears streaming down my face by the end of it. Sarahs books draw you in like a warm embrace and her writing style is so amazing that you feel a part of her books. This story is about a ghost trapped in a house and unable to leave, then a family move in and her existence and their lives come together for an amazing story. Yet again I can see this book (just like 365 days a year) becoming a movie one day as it played like a movie in my head it was so well told! Thank you again Sarah for such an amazing novel. I really can't wait to see what you create next.
Moving into an old house with a ghost can bring various adventures and a hell of a story. I fell in love with the characters from the beginning. This story delves into beautiful friendships. A story that will stay with me for a long time. The author has a way with writing and making fantasy feel real. It was easy to forget that the ghost is actually a ghost. I really hope she brings out more amazing stories.
