Archer Hiscock’s much needed vacation turns into something so much more. The sun, sea, and sand he expects, but Cain Jonas is the icing on the cake. He is everything Archer wants in a man, but vacation romances don’t last forever. Or so Archer thought until a wedding throws his life into turmoil.
Now both men have to face the family connection they have and decide whether their attraction can overcome those barriers. Do they ignore what started on vacation and try to remain friends, or throw caution to the wind and give in to the heat that burns between them?
Chasing Cain is a GFY, step-sibling MM romance with plenty of smoking hot sexy times and a Walter who has no filter and says what he wants, when he wants.
What can I say about me? I have two boys who keep me on my toes and a cat who adopted us. She walked in one day and hasn’t left. We might be getting a dog too. Who knows?
I love to read about men in love. Flawed, but strong men, who need some TLC and find their happy ending. I love to write about those same type of men too, sometimes with added kink! I also love to read horrors, thrillers and crime novels.
When I’m not trying to keep my boys in line, or writing about hot sexy men, I like to work on my allotment. I also like to read, to take walks in the countryside, and visit historical places. Recently, we went to Stonehenge and Avebury. It was an amazing experience.
It was downright unbelievable that Cain is an American who happens to hail from the same small Montana town as Archer, yet they meet across the world. Somehow, Archer never heard of Cain before this chance encounter. Sure, Cain’s been in London for the past five years for work, but you know, he never flies back and sees family…ever? Now, he’s on this two-week break before he moves across an ocean and back to Small Town, Montana—where (unbelievably) his international engineering firm is located. Oh, and Cain has (unbelievably) never been attracted to men before, though he’s had good friends who are gay, to whom he’s been a fierce ally against his homophobic brother’s verbal attacks. And, while Cain’s never had any sexual contact with a man, Archer is (unbelievably) going to be The One thanks to his great ASSets.
Archer, a gay man on vacation and on the first day his eyes catch Cain, a straight man. And with just the tilt of his head, Archer manages Cain to come to him thinking the man made his dick ache. They have diner and end up having the hottest sex ever!!!
I know, this could be a man in his thirties discovering that he likes a variety in the bedroom. But all these siblings, all these characters, all these names... I almost felt like I needed to make a chart to keep up! It took a lot away from the story. But luckily we had Walter and his cane to keep things fun!
Part of the Hiscock Series that is best enjoyed when read in order:
Chasing Cain by author Megs Pritchard is the first book in the Hiscock series. I loved this story. I liked that I got both men’s POV and really into their mindset. They are book good people, and I liked the pacing of this story. There are a bunch of twists and turns in this story that kept me reading and wanting more. The chemistry between Cain and Archer is off the charts hot too. Cain is on a business trip in London. That is where he meets Archer in a hotel bar. Cain has never thought he was gay but there is something about Archer that really turns him on. I liked how both men are friends first. They have a ton in common right off the bat. Archer is a likeable nice character. I liked he is secure in who he is. He is also a lot stronger than even he thinks. I truly loved getting to know both men in this story. I cannot wait for more from this series in the future.
Chasing Cain is the first book in a Hiscock Family serie, a new series by Megs Pritchard. I really loved the story of Cain and Archer. They were so good together and I loved them. The story is hot, sweet and very well written. Also I really loved the granddad, Walter.
DNF I liked it a lot, until we meet the families. Talk about an obnoxious and annoying group of people. I couldn’t handle it anymore and stopped reading, which is a shame because I liked Cain and Archer, and wanted to read their story. But I could not deal with those families anymore.
What a great start to a new series. Not only did the author set the scene for the next books in the series, but she didn’t do it at the expense of the story itself. From the moment I met Archer and Cain, I was addicted. You could literally feel their chemistry through the words on the page.
Archer was on a much needed, long overdue vacation, and Cain needed a break before moving back to the states. Their instant connection was obvious, so I was floored when Cain made known he’d never been with a man, or had never been attracted to one. This was the ultimate gay for you story. I LOVED it. There was just one more, sliiiiightly surprising thing......after saying goodbye at the end of their vacation, they find each other at the same wedding. I guess they’re connected in more ways than they thought.
This was a very well written book, with a ton of lovable characters. I enjoyed getting to know this family. Their dynamics were great and Grandpa Walter was a hoot! Watching each family member (new and old) ‘handle him’ was epic. There was laughter, love, family drama, and a devastating revelation in this book. It was heartwarming at seeing everyone rally together. Oh, lest I forget: there was a TON of steamy bits.
I can’t wait for the next book. The epilogue left me smiling, but if it was just a dream.....I may have some words for the author. Lol. I highly recommend this book and I believe this series has been set up for success.
***I voluntarily accepted an ARC from Gay Romance Reviews. My review reflects my own thoughts and opinions***
Things I loved about this book... the cover! And, the humor worked for me, kinda? Lydia was great... I loved that she had "bat" hearing and her "look" could bring a grown man to heel... just as a mother should! *grin* Then there is Walter... I am of two minds about him, just like I am with my own dad! You either are rolling on the floor laughing or ready to strangle him... yep, I think I liked Walter! LOL!!!
Things that I had issues with...
Repetition to make a point can be a good thing, but after hearing the same thing 5 or 6 times, I think we got it! The next 101 times or so was just OVERKILL... grrr
The proofreading left a lot to be desired and why did I keep coming across words or phrases that were more conducive to a book written by an English author? *I really should have checked that point before posting my review... Ugh!*
I felt that the author could have handled the traumatic issue better by perhaps giving the character that suffered the trauma his own book instead of trying to make his issue a major part of this book. Frankly, if felt cheated and I think the author missed a wonderful opportunity to really do this issue justice... and she just threw it away! :(
As for the next book, I don't feel compelled at all to read it because the author didn't give us a reason to want to hear that character's story... I have a much more driving need to read either Corey or Anton's story than I do Knox's story... maybe someday I will come back and read it... but, NOT today. :(
Archer Hiscock is in London for a vacation and he meets a fellow American, Cain Jonas, at the hotel bar. Archer is a veterinarian that just needed some time off, and Cain is an engineer, going back to the states after 5 years on the job. They hit it off immediately and agree to a fling for the remainder of the time they are together. Neither of them wants to say goodbye at the end of their time together but all good things come to an end. They'll never see each other again so at least they have good memories. As Archer arrives back home for his Mother's wedding, he wonders what his new step brothers are like. He hopes they aren't jerks. He catches a glimpse of one of the sons and can't believe what he sees....Cain Jonas!! How did they not know that their parents were getting married?? OMG, they slept with their soon to be step-brother! They aren't related by blood tho, so could they carry on their relationship or would it be too weird? You can guarantee the family throws in their two cents worth! One of my favorite characters in this book is Archer's grandfather, Walter. He has absolutely NO filter and is adorably crass. There is another serious side story that involves one of Cain's brothers but it is handled very nicely. This book had me from the start!
Archer & Cain meet on vacation, & Cain is extremely attracted to Asher, despite being straight & having never noticed another man every before in his life. They end up having a fling together, & plan on going their separate ways after two weeks.
When they go back home, though, they end up seeing each other again in church, at a wedding ceremony that now makes them step brothers.
“You still like him?”
“Yeah. It only ended because the vacation was over.”
“That’s hard - or too hard...”
(laughing)
Loved hearing Walter (grandad) being so inappropriate with no filter... The stories about how he used to get it on with his wife, the ladies underwear thing, bacon flavored lube...
Can I just add that I loved how Cain reacted in a completely normal way to just seeing how strong his attraction was to Archer? There was no hesitation, really, he just took it in stride. Loved this part of their scenes together, as well as how hot they were for each other...
Worth reading!
I received this book as a free ARC through an email promotion.
Delightful story of connections, complications and choosing love. I really enjoyed these two educated men, one a veterinarian and one an engineer. They connect as random strangers that have a wonderful coupe of weeks fling and have a fantastic time, a time that neither wants to end. Time and distance connects them in unexpected ways and now they have to figure out what they want and how to go about achieving their desires. The story-line was creative and i so enjoyed it. The supporting characters are wonderful and so add to the story. i really enjoyed Archers' grandfather, Walter.
Archer and Cain have so much connection and develop a solid friendship. They explore their chemistry and they just have a wonderful rhythm that makes each other better.
This is book one of the A Hiscock Novel series and i am looking forward to the next book!
I was gifted this book from Gay Romance Reviews and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
An okay start to the book as Archer and Cain meet in a club. Coincidences at the start are not my favourite in a book. Cain is straight but he wasn't 100% sure, until Archer. The book gets interesting after the vacation, I could've kicked Cain in a scene. Ooh once the Hole family know its a big gossip session. Old Walter definitely says whats on his mind with no filters, I had to laugh. Wow this has a horrible twist that I wasn't expecting for a someone. A good book with multiple family characters included in this. A Veterinarian and engineer, straight to bi theme, virgin, homophobia, this has some child molestation rape mentioned. Archer 32 was on a vacation for the next 12 days.. He fast meets Cain and they get to know each other. A vacation to remember for them but their story not over for them.
Chasing Cain is a wonderful book by Megs Pritchard. The first book in the Hiscock series, it's a compelling forbidden romance.
It took a little while, but I found myself fully consumed by this book. Discovering that Archer and Cain are stepbrothers brings everything to life, and I found myself all in. I lived and breathed this book, unable to put it down.
Their relationship is beautiful, full of tenderness and emotion. I absolutely love them together. But the conflict is ever present and naturally so. I enjoy the way everything unfolds, and love the ending.
I was excited about this whole story, and couldn't get enough of these men and their families. The parents are great and Walter is definitely a unique character. They don't get much more blunt than Walter.
Chasing Cain is a riveting read. Megs Pritchard doesn't disappoint in this fabulous stepbrother romance.
An interesting and sweet story, about a couple of men having a summer fling and falling for each other hard. (Pun not intended)
Only to discover..... dum dum dum..... they are to become stepbrothers.
Cain is a thinker and as such almost refuses to rekindle his romance with Archer. Thankfully he realises that he wouldnt be able to manage seeing Archer with someone else.
I started and finished the story on the same day, and would struggle to choose a favourite between the main characters. Or even some of the additional characters.
The families are brilliant. Each characters personality shines through. There are a couple of side characters that I desperately hope will be getting their own stories told. Esp with the last little bit in the story.
Three and a half stars for this one. Good opening story to a series, but lots and lots of coincidences, which I must admit, I don't really buy.
Still I loved Archer and Cain together. They were well suited, and shone throughout the book, trying to get together, and damn the circumstances. The parents were lovely, and accepted them for who they were, but I couldn't get my head round Walter, the Grandpa. He utterly went too far and got on my nerves.
Lots of characters introduced who may star in future books. Looking forward to poor Anton 's story. I sort of enjoyed the book, but there was so much going on. I really wanted more about Cain and Archer. Still, I will read the next book in the series, as I want to know what happens with some of the secondary characters.
This just proves that love does conquer everything. Cain and Archer are made for each other. Their attraction is instantaneous and when they are together sparks fly. It was supposed to be a fling of two amazing weeks after each other returns to their lives but fate had other plans for them when they reunite and they learn are stepbrothers. They try to resist the attraction but in the end they end up together and their family support them. They are aware people will frown upon their relationship but they have their family who will protect them and each other and that is enough for them. It was an amazing read and can't wait to read Corey story.
Embracing The Unexpected! A tropical holiday fling turns into so much more when Veterinarian Archer and Engineer Cain meet up again at their parents’ wedding. This was my first time reading this author and I had mixed feelings about this romantic story. I was a bit surprised at how quickly “straight boy” Cain and Archer hooked up with gusto. There was none of that hesitation or negative internal dialogue that is prevalent in most straight/gay romance stories. Then, there was the ribaldry, quirky banter from the assorted characters including Walter, that came across as more crass than funny. It felt like the author was trying a bit too hard. With all of that said, this was an averagely good and a bit sweet tale, too. Rating: 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Such great characters and storyline! Absolutely adored the boys. What can I say about Walter other than how wonderfully inappropriate and embarrassing he is! Love him! Lots going on in this story. Mostly great hot sexy times and some devastatingly horrific. The humor is off the charts! This family, made of 2, is amazing and very protective of each other. The support they show Cain and Archer, Corey and also Anton is inspiring! I am really looking forward to Corey's book and hoping one day Anton will find happiness.
I loved the beginning of Archer and Cain’s story. The instant attraction between them was off the charts. It was supposed to be a 2-week vacation fling, but the attraction was to strong!!I loved all the side characters, their “family” was great especially Walter!! His mouth was outrageous. So good!! I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
Loved this Archer and Cain were great together they meet when there both on vacation and the chemistry between them his so Hot and steamy but time comes for them to go home thinking not see each other again not realising they were going to be related by marriage that's when fun starts all family Fantastic grandad Walter so blunt so much fun don't want to spoil Recommend to read Brilliant 5 Stars we'll deserved
I liked Archer and Cain's story. They were hot and very sweet together, made somewhat taboo by the discovery of their family connection. The writing and character development is done well, and there is some seriously delicious chemistry between Archer and Cain. I really liked the side characters as well, especially Walter who has absolutely no filter and it makes for some hilarious (and at times a bit frustrating) dialogue. Looking forward to more in this series!
Chasing Cain is the first book in the Hiscock series. I really enjoyed this story. Archer and Cain meet in a club and sparks fly right away. They have a holiday romance that isn't meant to be more. Well you never know what can happen! Learning they are about to become stepbrothers certainly throws a wrench in things. The story is full of wonderful secondary characters, especially the grandad Walter! I really liked this story and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
This is an ultimate “gay for you” story, as Cain has never been in a MM relationship before. I really reading these first time MM love stories and Archer and Cain are the perfect pair for this. Great character development and sweet meet-up moments later on in the story. I will definitely read the rest of the series for this new-to-me author. I left an honest review of this story in exchange for an advanced review copy.
This book was by a new to me author. I enjoyed the story of a slightly taboo relationship and how they dealt with it. There was a secondary story line as well which showed the strength and love of family. I'm looking forward to the second book.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily gave my honest review.
Archer and Cain are such a cute couple. They hook up on holiday and the chemistry between them is palpable. Discovering that they are about to be related throws both men but although they try and fight it, they can't deny their attraction. I really loved the dynamic of both families and I am looking forward to getting more of their stories.
Great start to this new series. Cain and Archer has amazing chemistry. I love the whole storyline with a vacation fling and then finding out they are going to be step brothers. It is great to seeing how they are going to develop their relationship. I just love the storyline, and all the characters. This is such a fun story and I can't wait to see what happens nexts in this series.
Archer is a veterinarian is in London on vacation and meets Cain who is an engineer going back to America. Archer arrives back home for his Mother's wedding and meets his new stepbrother Cain.
This was a very steamy story with an insta-attraction. I really enjoyed this book I definitely recommend!
The romance between Cain and Archer at their vacation was super hot. Then they find they are family and the guilt won’t let them be. They are and awesome couple with crazy chemistry. The book has awesome characters, with big families and lots of love. Of course Walter is the best lol I enjoyed this book a whole lot!
I absolutely LOVED this marvelous, hilarious, fantastic, incredible, delightful, grab-you-by-the-feels, tug-at-your-heartstrings, amazing, poignant, charming, endearing, engaging, five alarm flaming hot, and totally awesome tale. It pulled me in from the very first page, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
