My dad captured our family’s story and the essence of my mom’s strength so perfectly. Watching our family grow, seemingly have it all, then have it crumble with my brother’s passing followed closely by my mom’s cancer diagnosis and culminating in the Last Dance was both tragic but also uplifting when it finishes with how we’ve all tried to move forward. His love for my mom is still so strong, now 5 years later. My mom was such a special person, which I think is evident in his depiction of her and how she fought for this family. I’m so proud of my dad for putting this together and I think even if you don’t know us, there’s a lot to get out of this book.

I cried with this memoir. When Mary Ann dance for the last time for her son on his wedding day, it was heart-touching and inspirational. It shows how powerful and unconditional a mother's love is. This book really captured the spirit of a woman and her undying love for her family. The relationship with her husband and journey to create a family felt very honest and real. The tragedy the family endured was truly heartbreaking but it was obvious how the strength of their bonds got them through and how Kyle and Mary Ann’s memory lives on.

Amazing story!

This is such an amazing story filled with love, hope, and commitment. At times, I laughed and others, cried as I read the book about this amazing couple, their family, and their incredible mother. This book came up in my recommended book list. At first, I was hesitant to read this story as I believed it would be too sad. But I watched the video on YouTube and read some articles online and became intrigued. I started and finished this book in less than 24-hours! I just couldn't put it down. I am going to purchase a hard copy as I have chronic diseases and spinal cord injuries. When I need hope, I will read this book. Their marriage reminds me of ours, my husband and I. We are approaching our 27th anniversary and I've known my husband for over 30 years. The live we have is deep. Our bond and our live is stronger now than before we were married. I had a death scare 2 weeks ago and when I woke up in the ICU, I saw my husband and his tear filled eyes who told me he is not ready to let me go. I was devastated to hear how close I came. I had pulmonary embolisms and thought I was having an asthma attack. He said he cannot raise the children alone and do the job I'm doing. I promised him he will not be doing so.

This book came at just the right time. My thanks to Stephen and his family for sharing their powerful story.

One of the most touching parts of this memoir is how the family navigates the loss of a beloved member. This story reminds us how fragile life is, and how crucial resilience and love become in the face of sorrow. It’s a moment that gives the memoir real emotional weight and invites readers to reflect on their own experiences with loss and healing.

While Mary Ann’s life may seem ordinary on the surface, it is precisely her grounded nature, her sacrifices, and her unwavering love that make her extraordinary. Stephen has crafted a touching reminder of the importance of honoring those who give so much without ever seeking recognition.

Though I would have loved to hear more of Mary Ann’s own voice—perhaps through letters, journal entries, or direct quotes—this absence does not take away from the memoir’s impact. It remains a tender, timeless tribute to a woman who touched lives in ways big and small.

Perfect for readers of heartfelt, true-life stories. Mary Ann’s journey is one you’ll remember—and feel grateful to have read. I loved the chemistry between the author and his late wife.

This was the first book I’ve read by the author, and his vivid, heartfelt writing has already left me eager to explore more of his work. The book is a touching tribute to the beautiful life he shared with his late wife, Mary Ann.

Stephen and Mary Ann created a warm, loving home, raising their children with strong values and deep affection. One of the most devastating moments in their lives was the loss of their son—a grief that left a lasting impact.

When Mary Ann was later diagnosed with cancer, Stephen struggled to come to terms with the reality. The thought of life without her was unimaginable. It took him nearly two years to begin healing and gradually return to his work.

This is an emotional and deeply moving read. The pain of losing both Mary Ann and their son is heart-wrenching. One particularly touching moment is the final dance Mary Ann shared with her son at his wedding—a memory that lingers with beauty and sorrow.

The cover photo is especially thoughtful and adds to the book's emotional depth. I’m looking forward to reading more of Stephen’s books in the future.

This is the debut book of the author through which he is celebrating the life of his late wife Mary Ann. Stephen and Mary Ann were blessed to find each other when they were working at Inland Steel in Chicago. Moving to Chicago to work for this company must have been one of the best decisions by the author as it helped him to find his soulmate.

By reading the journey of Stephen and Mary Ann, readers will understand the true meaning of being soulmates. When Mary Ann was diagnosed with cancer, it was a difficult time with heavy emotions for the author and his children. After Mary Ann's passing, Stephen took years to heal and finally started living by diving into work.

This is a sweet read that will stay in your mind for a long time. The cover photo of the book showing a mother sharing a last dance with her son looks so lovely. I highly recommend this beautiful memoir to every reader.

One of the saddest books that I have read in a long time.
You will keep reading, because it's a true honest book about a beautiful, American family.
About a mother who deeply loved her husband and four children.
They had good times over the more than thirty years that this book is about and they had sorrow.
The loving mother Mary Ann felt like she single handedly raised her children,at times as her husband Steve was trying hard to give her and their children a good life, that he eventually did.

But as this was real life, when the sorrow came it was devastating.
They lost their youngest son at the age of 23 and this shook them to their core.
Mary Ann had been treated for breast cancer, early on and her doctor didn't follow up with proper testing and she
later on was told she had stage four breast cancer and didn't have long to live.
You will read about this courageous lady, her final moments and the family that loved her
Her husband is the Author of this book, which is a true testament of his love.
I would recommend !

Stephen’s chance meeting with Mary Ann on the bus seemed ordinary at first —but behind that daily commute was a love story waiting to unfold. As her old relationship faded, Mary Ann allowed herself to be vulnerable with Stephen. What started with stolen glances and quiet conversations blossomed into something deeply intimate.
Their relationship evolved naturally—moving in together, sharing routines, discovering comfort in each other's presence. And yet, amid this growing affection, Stephen often found himself haunted by his mother’s words: "Is this the woman you want to raise your family with and be the mother of your children?"

That lingering question found its answer when Stephen brought Mary Ann home to meet his mother. Acceptance turned into celebration, and soon they were engaged, married, and raising children together—a portrait of love lived fully. But life is unpredictable. What challenges will come in the way of Manning's family?
This book was a rollercoaster of emotion. I couldn’t stop reading, my heart swelling with joy in one moment and breaking the next. The depth of Stephen and Mary Ann’s relationship—their laughter, their trials, their silent strength—moved me profoundly. Their journey reminds us that love isn’t just about grand moments, but about staying when things get hard. It’s about holding each other through the storm. A powerful, tender, and unforgettable read.

Stephen Manning’s The Last Dance is an amazing memoir that captures the enduring love between a husband and wife. At its core, it’s a celebration of Mary Ann—the woman who inspired and anchored Manning’s life. The narrative is rich with intimate recollections, chronicling their journey from the early spark of their romance to the quiet, tender moments of their later years.

A defining moment in the book occurs when Manning recalls his mother’s advice: “Marry the woman you want to be the mother of your children.” This line echoes throughout the story, guiding his decisions and shaping his values. When he met Mary Ann, he saw in her not just a partner but a reflection of that ideal—a nurturing, compassionate woman with an inner strength that resonated with him.

The book doesn’t shy away from the complexities of life. When Mary Ann is diagnosed with a condition that could jeopardize her chances of having children, Manning is forced to grapple with doubt and fear. Yet, their love triumphs. Together, they build a beautiful, fulfilling life, marked by joy, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to one another.

Mary Ann chose to prioritize her marriage and children over personal ambition, and her devotion is evident in the way her children speak of her—with deep respect and gratitude. The cover image, showing a touching moment between Mary Ann and her son, visually encapsulates the soul of the book. It’s a quiet but powerful testament to the love they shared.

This book is a heartfelt tribute to Manning's wife, Mary Ann, and a reflection on love, choices, and the quiet sacrifices that shape a family. Manning invites readers into his world, offering a front-row seat to the joys and sorrows that defined his marriage.

A key theme in the book revolves around a piece of advice Manning received from his mother: “Marry the woman you want to be the mother of your children.” This single line sets the emotional and moral compass of the story. Manning’s portrayal of Mary Ann as his perfect match is not rooted in fantasy, but in the real-life trials they overcame together. From confronting infertility fears to managing career moves and personal losses, their journey is layered with real-world challenges that many couples will recognize.

One of the most compelling aspects of the memoir is Mary Ann’s character. She is presented not just as a supportive wife, but as the emotional backbone of their family. Her decision to place marriage and motherhood above everything else is portrayed well.

The book cover itself is striking—a tender photograph of Mary Ann with her son that captures the essence of her gentle, loving spirit. The title, The Last Dance, carries a quiet grace. It’s both a farewell and a celebration, encapsulating the bittersweet tone of the memoir.

From the moment Stephen met Mary Ann during their daily bus rides to work, their connection felt like something out of a storybook. Despite Mary Ann being in a relationship with someone from the sales team, destiny had other plans. Soon, she ended her previous relationship and opened herself up to Stephen. What followed was a beautiful and tender journey—one of love, vulnerability, and companionship. As they dated and eventually moved in together, their bond only deepened.

However, even amid their happiness, Stephen found himself reflecting on a question his mother once asked him: "Is this the woman you want to raise your family with and be the mother of your children?" That question stayed with him as he navigated the growing seriousness of their relationship.

When Stephen introduced Mary Ann to his mother, her warm welcome was a turning point. Soon, they were engaged, married, and started a family, building a life filled with shared dreams and everyday joys. Their world was shaken when Mary Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer.

This book gripped me from the very first page. I binge-read it late into the night, unable to let go of Stephen and Mary Ann’s emotional journey. Their story teaches couples to stand by their partner in sickness and in health. Their love inspired me and reminded me how precious, and fragile, life can be.

If you're seeking an inspiring and heartfelt read, this book is a must. It beautifully chronicles the journey of Stephen and Mary Ann, whose love story began while working at Inland Steel in Chicago. Their shared bus rides turned into dates, which blossomed into a lifelong commitment.

Mary Ann faced challenges early on due to her medical history, which jeopardized her chances of becoming a mother. In this heartfelt memoir, the author introduces readers to his beloved wife, Mary Ann Manning—a beautiful woman, devoted wife, and loving mother. Stephen’s journey with Mary Ann, as they raised their four children, was filled with joy, inspiration, and unwavering hope.

Stephen considers himself incredibly fortunate to have met and married Mary Ann, a gentle and remarkable soul who left a lasting impression on his heart. After moving to Chicago for a new job, he sold his car and began commuting by bus, thanks to the city’s efficient public transportation. Unbeknownst to him, this simple decision would become one of the most life-changing choices he ever made—it was on that bus that he met Mary Ann.

Their story began there, on that daily bus ride. From their engagement and marriage to enduring profound losses and eventually facing Mary Ann’s diagnosis, every chapter of their lives together was deeply meaningful and transformative.

I picked up Last Dance after seeing the viral video of Mary Ann dancing at her son’s wedding. At first, I thought it would be a sad story—and yes, it is—but it’s also one of the most uplifting love stories I’ve read in a long time. As someone recently married, I found myself reflecting on what true commitment really looks like through the lens of Stephen and Mary Ann’s journey.

The beginning of their relationship had challenges many couples today might run from. Mary Ann faced a health crisis that could have jeopardized her ability to have children, yet Stephen stayed and chose love over fear. That moment stood out to me because it redefined the way I view loyalty in relationships. It's not about smooth sailing—it's about who holds your hand when the storm hits.

This memoir has left a lasting impression on me. It’s made me more grateful for my spouse and more intentional about how we grow together. I didn’t expect a book about loss to teach me so much about how to love while we’re still here. It’s a must-read for anyone who wants a real, raw, and rewarding take on marriage and family.

I enjoy reading memoirs, and this time I picked up Stephen Manning’s book. It beautifully highlights how families stand by each other through both joyful and difficult times.

Stephen met Mary Ann while working in Chicago, and their bond quickly grew stronger, eventually leading them to fall in love. When Stephen introduced Mary Ann to his family, she was warmly welcomed and loved by everyone. With the blessings of both families, the couple prepared for marriage. However, a diagnosis brought unexpected challenges, raising doubts about Mary Ann’s ability to have children.

Despite the uncertainty, Stephen remained steadfast by her side. Through God's grace, they were blessed with four children. One of the most heartbreaking moments in their journey was the loss of a son. Mary Ann’s tender love, especially when she danced with her son at his wedding, deeply moved me.

This memoir is a touching tribute to family unity and unconditional love. It reminds us how vital family is in our lives. Mary Ann’s warmth and compassion leave a lasting impression. This is a heartfelt read that will inspire readers to cherish their own family relationships.

This book recounts the author's journey alongside his loving wife, Mary Ann. After Stephen accepted a job offer from the Inland Steel Company, he moved to Chicago. During his bus ride to the office, he first noticed Mary Ann — who was then in a relationship — and felt she was far beyond his reach. However, when Mary Ann ended her previous relationship, she confessed her feelings for Stephen.

The two began dating and soon decided to marry. They became engaged, but their happiness was soon overshadowed by Mary Ann's health issues. She was diagnosed with cysts on both ovaries, and the doctor presented them with two options to consider. Despite the challenges, they married and went on to have four children.

Later in life, Mary Ann was diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer, which took a tremendous toll on the family. Her children struggled deeply with the reality of how far the disease had progressed.

This heartfelt story invites readers to follow their emotional journey. It truly felt like a rollercoaster of emotions, with the author pouring his heart onto every page — something I deeply connected with.

A Touching Tribute to a Remarkable Woman

Stephen Manning's memoir is a beautiful tribute to his late wife, Mary Ann Manning — a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering love. From the moment Stephen's mother advised him to find not just a wife, but the best possible mother for his future children, the tone of this emotional journey is set. When Mary Ann entered his life, she fulfilled that vision and much more.

Despite medical challenges that cast doubt on her ability to become a mother, Mary Ann's resilience and faith shone through, and the couple was blessed with a beautiful family. As the narrative shifts to Mary Ann's diagnosis of breast cancer, it becomes deeply emotional and introspective. Her courage in the face of terminal illness is nothing short of inspiring.

This book is more than just a love letter from a husband to his wife — it's a legacy for Mary Ann’s children and future generations. The author’s writing is sincere and relatable, and the title of the book is especially powerful and fitting. As a reader, I felt personally moved and reflective, and I closed the book with a renewed sense of appreciation for life and loved ones.

A Memoir That Celebrates Love, Loss, and Legacy

As a memoir enthusiast, I found Stephen Manning’s book to be a beautiful and emotionally resonant experience. The story is a celebration of Mary Ann Manning’s life — a devoted wife and a naturally nurturing mother whose love and strength left a lasting impact on everyone around her.

The bond shared between Stephen, Mary Ann, and their children — especially Kristie — is tenderly portrayed. When Kristie broke the heartbreaking news of her mother’s stage-four breast cancer diagnosis, the rawness of the moment struck me deeply. This book offers comfort to those who have experienced similar losses.

I loved the cover photo of this book depicting a bond between a mother and a son. The youtube videos links included in this book would make the readers feel more connected to Mary Ann as they will see her last dance.

This is not just a story about cancer or death — it’s a testament to the enduring power of love and motherhood. I walked away from this book with a heart full of admiration and a renewed commitment to cherish time with my own loved ones.
