A dilemma is defined as two bad choices. In my case it was either continue to work at my soul-crushing corporate law job for the next forty years, or to become the mafia don’s personal attorney.
But I made my decision, and now I plan to defend him from figurative bullets in the courtroom, and literal ones outside of it.
Everybody deserves good counsel, even made men. Justice for all
Smart young attorney working in a big law firm takes a pro bono case representing the son of a mafia don. The don wants to go legit but his enemies see an opportunity to exploit the situation. Good characters but I thought the pace somewhat sluggish.
Mob Lawyer is a very interesting and entertaining story. It's a combination of The Godfather and The Firm. Hunter Morgan is stuck in a White Bread Corporate Law Firm bored out of his mind , but needing the paycheck to pay off his student loans. The Firm does Pro Bono Work, which Hunter always volunteers to help out with. He takes on a Client falsely accused of injuring a police officer. The Client turns out to be the son of a Mafia Don. The author makes you understand that there is a thin line between Legitimate and Illegal Corporations. That just about everyone has a price, including the Police Department and the District Attorney.
This’s my first reading any of this author’s work and I must say, I’m not disappointed. This book is well written and easy to read. The storyline was exhilarating and bittersweet. I’m a diehard reader of legal thriller and mafia, and this book capitalizes on both. Either though, this book doesn’t have a lot of mafia content, it still has a lot of drama, actions and humor. Most of the action and violence scenes were directed towards Hunter and not really the mafia. The main characters are likable, smart and well developed. I’m glad the author removed the budding romance from the storyline bc the romance would’ve overshadowed the narrative. This book is great. I’m very impressed with Hunter and Anthony friendship. Hunter is a very loyal, dependable and dedicated man, friend and lawyer. I always thought Ben was a good person and never doubted his loyalty to the family. I admire his courage and commitment.
I always enjoy reading mob stories and this was an enjoyable, very readable first in a new series. Needed to suspend belief a bit considering the amazing confrontations as this young law firm associate successfully overcomes physical assaults, deadly armed attacks from professional hit men, and faces down corrupt cops and prosecutors. Nevertheless, the characters develop interestingly, the plot is credible, and the story is sufficiently captivating to make me order the second in this series.
I thought this was an enjoyable book and plan to read the rest of the series. Some of the story is a little far fetched considering the main character goes from being a law associate doing corporate work to beating up Mafia members and getting shot at several times. The only thing I didn't like about the book was rather than simply using a characters name (particularly the women) he too often "describes" them as "the auburn haired beauty" or "my long legged co-council". After a while, I found it annoying.
A very interesting first of a series (I hope) I would be anxious to read them.I know
There is a second "Mob Lawyer" already , I am. Going to find, and read it A.S.A.P and I will let you know if "Hunter Morgan" lives up to book one,I hope so .and I want find out if his co-founder comes back from Her assignment in england,as Hunter says she is a brilliant atty, with Fabulous Long Legs. ( the type of lawyer I WOULD LOVE To hire. Will let you know!!
I was totally engrossed in the book! It has interesting characters with different interests and shady pasts. I cannot wait to read "the rest of the story".
While Darren does weave a fast paced story, his constant use of women in his book as adolescent fantasy fodder is truly tiresome. The 'long legged lawyer' got to be particularly irritating.
Dave Daren kept me up with this legal thriller. I applaud the attention to scene settings, language and dialogue between the characters and the plot progression. This is one of the best books I've read all year!
700+ pages flew by extremely swiftly. A "couldn't put it down" thriller. Interesting, exciting, characters and a good story line kept me glued to my Kindle. Recommend this book without question and am now starting on book 2.
I felt as though this read would never end. Book could have been shortened by 200 pages. I like a good legal thriller that doesn't waste words and has SOME court room drama and this doesn't "fill the bill"!
I want this lawyer if I was ever in this line of of family "work". Action packed throughout, it moved quickly and keeps you hooked from beginning to end. On to the next book in this series!
What started out as an interesting murder mystery turns into car chases and gunfire and gangs. Leaving the reader wondering why the author spent so much time developing the murder, only to be disappointed.
Interesting writing angle of a book in the legal genre. This time a lawyer who defends a mafia crime family. The author skillfully avoids explicitly detailing the illicit activities of the family under protection. Overall, a refreshing, captivating and interesting new writing
More of a thriller than a mystery but still a fun read. Well written albeit a little light on the legal process. I enjoyed the character development and the setting in New York seemed authentic. I will definitely continue reading the series.
I enjoyed this novel as the plot was interesting and kept the readers attention. The ending was unexpected and the entire reading experience was enjoyable.
Such an exciting well written book that I highly recommend this first book in what I hope will be a long series. Than you Dave Darren for a fascinating story.
Don't expect a mundane legal thriller because this isn't. This is one where the lawyer kicks, punches and breaks wrists! And gangsta don't seems to get the better of him! Really thrilling!!
