When a deadbeat customer becomes obnoxious in Amanda’s motorcycle shop, she grabs a hammer and threatens to bash his head in so far he will be able to see his dirty underwear.
Three weeks later the deadbeat is found murdered in her parking lot.
Customers from the bar down the street report that Amanda left with him the night of the murder. Strands of Amanda’s red hair are found on the victim.
The deadbeat’s ghost accuses her of murdering him. Charley cannot... or will not... provide an alibi.
“Write what you know,” they said. I’d been married three times. I wrote romances.
Fast forward ten years.
“Write what you know,” they said. I’d been divorced three times and fantasized about murdering my ex. Only massive doses of chocolate kept my finger off the trigger.
Now I write about murder and chocolate and the occasional ghost.
Arriving back from a luxurious week away with Jake, Amanda wasn’t looking forward to Charley coming home. Her best friend Teresa had held Charley captive for the week, so Jake and Amanda could have privacy that wasn’t possible at home. But when Charley did arrive, he told Amanda about the person sleeping in the carpark of her motorcycle business next door. The trouble was, that person was dead, and the evidence pointed to Amanda killing him late the previous night.
When customers of the deadbeat bar a few blocks from Amanda’s house reported seeing Amanda at the bar; reported an altercation with Lenny (the dead man) and then strands of her hair were found on the dead body, Amanda had no idea what was going on. She’d never been to the bar, hadn’t met Lenny, didn’t know the people at the bar. But Jake, her boyfriend and local cop, wasn’t sure what to believe – which was hurtful to Amanda. Would Charley be able to discover who killed Lenny? In his capacity as Amanda’s dead ex-husband, and clinging, annoying ghost who rarely left her side, he should be able to right the current wrongs…
The Ex Who Hid a Deadly Past is the 5th in the Charley’s Ghost series by Sally Berneathy and I enjoyed it. Charley is annoying – almost as annoying as he was before he was murdered. He’s also jealous – doesn’t like Amanda being with any other men. This particular episode had a great murder mystery with a few twists and good, down to earth characters. Recommended.
I always enjoy a good Charley’s ghost mystery. in this book an ex-girlfriend Charlie tries to frame Amanda for murder. Another great addition to the series.
Sally has a way with capturing the reader’s attention. The characters have depth and add to the interesting plots. Hard to put down with the pending mystery of who done it. Even if you figure out who the culprit may be, the reason behind their motives is the catch that keeps you reading.
This is a light, quick read. After I have read several dark, murder filled books, I like to read something pleasant and enjoyable. This fits the bill. Even though there is a murder in it.
A really fun light-hearted paranormal mistery with an intriguing story line - I couldn’t put it down, until I finished it!! Sally's books never disappointed me. I had that kind of hate-love feeling for Charley. Want to know more about it? Read this book. You cant miss it.
Sally Berneathy is such a great story teller. This fifth book in the Charley's Ghost book series is great! Did Amanda really kill Lenny? Find out by reading this hilariously suspenseful story. Great characters! I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I loved it!!
This was a fantastic series! I'm actually going to miss Amanda and Charley! I decided to read the series because I like this author's work, and I'm glad I did! From book 1 to the last, each book was exciting and very enjoyable.
I just finish reading the five books in this series and if you enjoy, adventures, different characters and a good laugh. I think this maybe a series for you to read.
