HOW IT ALL BEGAN
I started writing my first romance novel in secret. I was working a temp job in an insurance office in Manhattan at the time, and the office manager had made it clear that even if there was nothing to do, I still had to look busy-- never one of my big talents. I felt bad about the wasted time, though, and I needed something to round out my other chosen career, which was singing. Yeah, that's right. Most artists choose a more practical Plan B to back up their improbable Plan A. Me? No way. "Long Shot" is my middle name.
So I sneakily set up a Document 1 and a Document 2 with a spreadsheet on it. If my Boss du Jour walked by I could quick-like-a-bunny switch screens, and whenever the coast was clear, I went back to my story. Not that I was slacking, mind you. If there was work to be done, I did it. The sneakiness felt familiar, though, because I've been teased about reading romances since I was a kid. I think the day I finally grew up was the day I stopped trying to cover up what I was reading on the bus, train or subway. Let people think whatever they like.
It wasn't until I moved to Italy (details of that Long Shot provided later on) that I got serious about writing, though. I found myself with many long, quiet days alone with nothing to do, so I slogged my way bravely to the end of the manuscript and sent it out. Everybody rejected it-except for Kensington. I wrote for them for a few years, and then made a bid for an erotic novella for the new Brava imprint, and oh joy, they accepted it. Then I wrote BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. And so on, and so forth.
That's how I started. I can't think of anything I'd rather do. I never knew it would be so scary, and so hard . . . all that solitude and silence, a blank computer screen, and no one to blame. But still. It's worth it. It's great.
The final book in the Hellbound Brotherhood is here and it ends with a big bang!
The final Trask brother, Mace is paired up with Cait LaMott in this last installment and it ties everything together, in ways I honestly did not see coming.
This book was funny, sweet, romantic, sexy, action packed, tension filled and worth the wait. I loved the characters and the little cameos we get of Fi and Anton and Eric and Demi. Mace was the definition of mountain man/survivalist and Cait mellowed him out and it was seriously the cutest thing.
"My life's been all mud and blood and stress hormones, and then you come along, all hot and sexy and in my face, and whammo, suddenly I'm having fun."
Mace was like a little kid discovering fun for the first time and he falls head long into lust/love with Cait, but you gotta remember that the way he's been raised and the things he and his brothers have survived have left their mark on him and his paranoia is definitely levelled up, more than most. So he does have a TSTL moment that I was not okay way towards the end. It lead to the ultimate showdown between the brothers and Kimball but I wish the events that led to it were different. Or at least that Cait would have made Mace grovel to get back in her good graces after the way he pushes her away.
Overall, this was a good series. I still love Fi and Anton the best. Each book is a stand-alone but should be read in order to fully understand the ongoing plot and this last book will contain spoilers of the previous couples.

— Tu sei perfetta per me — commentò Mace. — Ah, sì? — scherzò lei. — E come fai a dirlo? — Be’, accidenti, so di non poter stare con una ragazza qualunque. Prima o poi riesco sempre a spaventarle.
Shannon McKenna did it again--had me glued me to the edge of my seat with this 5th and final book in her Hellbound Brotherhood series, and what a finale! If you're new to the series, I strongly advise you to read these novels in the order they were written, because all of the previous characters and their experiences come full circle in this one, and there are so many twists and turns in all the previous novels as well as this one, that to fully understand and appreciate how complex, dangerous, deadly, sexy, steamy, twisted, and probably a dozen other adjectives I could add, Ms. McKenna has so skillfully used in this brilliantly conceived and executed series, I'd hate for you to miss any of it. If I could give this novel more than 5 stars, I would.
Mace is the last of the Trask brothers who escaped from the GodsAcre cult when he was 14 years old, and has the physical and mental scars to prove it. While on the property, setting a trap to finally get rid of the the evil villain, Redd Kimball, who has tortured, tormented and tried to kill Mace's brothers, his friend, and the women in their lives, Mace encounters a woman trespassing on the property, one who has no business being at the remote location. He follows, captures and grills her, soon learning that she is Cait LaMott, a virologist, following a 14-year-old trail of bread crumb clues to try to find her missing father, Tom LaMott, who was also a virologist, and who disappeared 14 years ago. Mace soon learns that her father was the one whose life's work in creating a vaccine effective against all viruses, was perverted instead by the evil Redd Kimball, who used Tom LaMott's work to create a doomsday virus. His lab, and the virus, are now buried somewhere in the bombed-out rubble of the underground lab facility which Mace blew up when he and his brothers fled from GodsAcre, and which Kimball intends to unearth and to set loose in the world.
While Cait is inexplicably linked to all that occurred at GodsAcre, she first needs to prove to a disbelieving Mace and his brothers that she's not linked to Kimball, and only recently came into possession of a GPS location and a tracking device that led her to the site. After all the dangerous and deadly occurrences in the first four novels, it's not surprising that Mace doesn't trust her, and because this is, after all, a Shannon McKenna novel, the sexual attraction between these two characters turns blazing hot in a very short time, making Havoc the steamiest novel in the series, in this reader's opinion, but just how much can Mace place his trust in this woman to whom he's wildly attracted and has barely known for three days? Cait is certainly his match in smarts and skills, but is her appearance at GodsAcre just another one of Kimball's ploys to rid himself of the Trasks once and for all? Since I don't do spoilers, you'll just have to find out the answers to these questions by reading this action-packed, sexy, thrill-ride of a novel for yourself. I think you'll enjoy it every bit as much as I did.
I am deeply grateful to have received an advance reader copy of this novel from the author. The opinions expressed are my own.
The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! The chemistry is instant and intense, the magnetic pull can’t be ignored and there is no shortage of action or secrets. Will they stop who is trying to keep them, will she find out where/what happened to her dad, can they work together, trusting the other and can they find happiness?
Virologist Cait LaMott’s father Tom disappeared fourteen years ago when she was a fourteen. Shortly after he disappeared, her mother became ill and eventually passed away. Working closely with her father, Cait followed in his profession and became a virologist. She was able to decode his journal and research notes ‘written in code’ (with her mother’s help) which had been discovered in a safe deposit box she was not aware he had. She eventually made it to his lab using the coordinates her father had written in his journal trying to discover how he died after discovering the deadly virus he created was stolen from his lab.
While at the ruins, Kate encounters Mace Trask owner of Trask Executives Solutions, a small mercenary company and her plans go downhill from there. Mace was close by watching the ‘GodsAcre’ ruins for the man responsible for trying to kill him, his brothers and their women. GodsAcre was a survivalist enclave lead by his foster father Jeremiah Paley known as the Prophet. Mace blew up his childhood home, GodsAcre Great Hall thirteen years ago and it is now considered to be a death trap. Redd Kimball had used the mine to make the deadly virus in his lab. Mace’s plan is to blow it again with Kimball trapped inside. GodsAcre is owned by Mace and his brothers, Nate and Eric and the crazy Prophet taught them their survival skills on that mountain.
Now Kimball discovers Cait has come looking for information on her father’s disappearance and she is on his radar. Mace saves her from Kimball’s clutches and now she is being hunted as well as the Trask clan. The clock is ticking on finding the information Cait needs to help bring Kimball down.
I can’t believe I finally got to read this book! The wait felt like forever!!
Havoc is the 5th and last book of The Hellbound Brotherhood. And as always, when I read McKenna’s books, I’m anxious to get to the end but at the same time… why did it end? I want more!
Havoc is an entertaining stay-on-the-edge-of-your-seat story. The author takes us one more time to the extremes of suspense and romance. From heart-grabbing moments to sarcastic replies, mysteries, witty attitudes, evil plans, betrayals, and all-or-nothing-decisive-life-or-death action!
If I was to give a brief summary of the book: Mace is intent on putting an end to the big evil looming in the shadows, once and for all, and finding the monster threatening his family. He would stop at nothing. However, he didn’t plan on finding the love of his life. As for Cait, she would stop at nothing to find the truth about her father’s disappearance, even if it means falling in the deadliest of situations.
To me, this book was like watching a movie. It’s a fast-paced plot with events unfolding quickly urging you unconsciously to turn one page after the other taking you on a rollercoaster ride of various intense emotions. One moment you’re happy and excited or laughing, the next you’re crying, and then you’re worried and scared and waiting for the happily ever after saying to yourself “no worries, it’s gonna be okay”.
Trust me, your time won’t be wasted on this book. Give it a try!
***I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Amazing read!
Thrilling suspense, breath stealing danger and emotionally evocative connection Havoc: Hellbound Brotherhood Book 5 by Shannon McKenna created a wonderfully well written thrill ride of a romantic suspense featuring the youngest Trask, Mace. He’s alpha, he’s badass and he’s secretly a sweetheart with tons of sex appeal. I love the romantic elements of Mace and Cait together. Mace is adorable and earnest while Cait is direct and flirty. Their sparks are instantaneous making this book a page turner for the heat these two generate. It’s spontaneous combustion at it’s best in a romantic suspense. This author has woven a well developed storyline that has carried her fans through five books, this one wrapping all the bad mojo up in an explosive bow. I was hooked on these characters and on the edge of my seat as Mace and Cait get to know one another and connect. There is plenty of action throughout, both characters giving as good as they get. Emotionally charged with plenty of steam, they have ups and downs, bad decisions and even some fun despite it all. Overall, this thrilling conclusion brings all the characters of the Hellbound Brotherhood together and satisfies the reader with not only an HEA for Mace and Cait, but for all the couples to have the freedom of a promising, happy future. I read an ARC of this book via Hidden Gems and voluntarily share my review.
Havoc is already the fifth book in Shannon McKenna’s Hellbound Brotherhood series. I have been waiting impatiently for Mace’s story. Each of the brothers, they all have one heck of a story so I knew that Mace’s story might blow us out of water … and it did! I have read every single ones of Shannon’s books and I have to say that Hellbound Brotherhood series so totally is part of her amazing universe creating body of work! You could read each of the stories as a standalone but please, do yourself a favour and read the whole series! Each story contributes to the underlying storyline and you will want to know all of the players. SO, the closing chapter, will the Trask clan finally put their past behind them and put the evil Kimball out to the pasture? Each of the brothers have found their destinies and have had to fight for them so now it is Mace’s turn and of course, his destiny is someone whose life has also been impacted by Kimball – Cait’s father, a famous virologist, disappeared when Cait was 14 and having followed in his footsteps and deciphered his notes ends up in God’s Acre and Kimball’s sight… what a ride do those two take us! What an appropriate ending to the series! I am sooo sad this is the last book of the series and I seriously hope that Shannon will bring another crazy world to us!
4.5 Heart Pounding Stars! This fifth book in Ms. McKenna's Hellbound Brotherhood series is another heart pounding, sizzling story! This story picks up with Mace Trask keeping an eye on the ruins of GodsAcre. He's laying a trap for the man they thought was dead, only to learn he is very much alive and responsible for unspeakable acts. He sees a mysterious woman inspecting the area and entering the cave. He intercepts her, only to learn she is looking for her lost father. Cait holds the key to unlocking the prophets curse, and eliminating a madman for good. As they work together, along with his family to lay a trap, Mace can't deny his attraction to the courageous, beautiful scientist. But is she really what she seems? Or is she the perfect decoy to take down the Trask brothers for good? Mace and Cait are both strong, intelligent and stubborn. They challenge each other but comfort each other as well, and their chemistry is blazing hot. Ms. McKenna is a genius at creating the most evil characters, the best heart pounding action scenes, and also the hottest love/sex scenes, and this book has it all. There are many twists and turns in this fast paced story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a pulse pounding, scorching conclusion to the Trask brothers story, and I'm not sure I'm ready to let them, or the bada55 women who love them, go!
The conclusion to a thoroughly enjoyable series. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion, and I've really struggled with what to say. Overall, I loved the series. The Trask Brothers, and Nate are well written, each with their own skills, and have coped with the trauma of their childhoods in their own ways. The overall plot was compelling, the big-bad was insanely sadistic, and the story flowed really well between books. But this book... I have to admit I struggled. There was just something about Mace that annoyed me, and I found myself getting mad at him - when I cared about him at all. Cait is a great character. She's smart, stubborn and set on a mission to figure out what happened to her Dad. I loved reading about her, and catching up with the rest of their crew. But Mace just put me in a bad mood for the book. I would have given this 3 stars, but I've loved this series, and I really enjoyed how Shannon McKenna wraps up the overall plot. So 4 stars it is. Definitely worth the read if you've read the others in the Hellbound Series, and should not be read as a Standalone.
The youngest brother Mace has had enough and is doing everything he can to bring down Kimball and let GodsAcre Rest In Peace but first he needs to find out why Cait is trespassing on the property and find out if she is another one of Kimball’s ploys to bring him and his brothers down. Cait is searching for answers in the disappearance of her dad, a well known virologist who vanished w/o a trace many years ago and finds clues left by him that leads her to the mountain. These two are oil and water in the beginning but as they join forces with his brothers and their women, they may have a chance to have the final showdown between them and Kimball....that is if Cait is on the up and up. Oh boy, what an ending, filled with suspense, action, steam, surprises, twists and turns and amazing characters. I loved this final showdown as the story flowed beautifully, and more information on Mace and his upbringing, tying all the other reads nicely in a big bow. I LOVED the banter between these two, the tough yet vulnerable Cait, who has a back bone and the little to no drama between them...loved it. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
I read and loved all 5 books in the Hellbound Brotherhood series and highly recommend this author for romance, mystery, suspense and thrillers. This book revolves around Mace Trask who has a background in survivalism, a company that mirrored that, and brothers and a friend who were in a cult that was taken over by an evil Redd Kimball who has killed many of their friends and family with a virus and now he wants to go global with his deadly intentions. As Mace plots to kill Kimball he sees a woman who is walking around their blown up mountain, Gods Acre--could she be one of Kimball's spies? Cait LaMott lost her father 14 years ago when he vanished and it has taken this long to get his things--journal, coordinates etc and maybe answers to what happened to him. Once Mace and Cait clear the air they broach an idea with family and forge a relationship to end Kimball. But is it that easy? The brothers and their friends have been tricked by Redd Kimball before and serious damage has been done to both sides, hopefully Mace's background will end this, but what about Mace and Cait? I loved their relationship, their chemistry, and their back stories; highly recommended!
Thrilling read with edge of your seat suspense! In this book, we follow Mace, the last Trask brother. He is keeping guard over the remains of God’s Acre, the ruins of a former cult. He wants to be alert for any signs of Kimball, the mastermind behind the Prophet’s Curse. It’s there that he sees a trespasser with a quest if her own.
Cait is seeking answers about her father. He disappeared fourteen years ago without a trace. For the first time, she has hope for finding answers and will risk anything to get them. Even if it draws her into more danger than she ever could have anticipated.
Cait and Mace bounce off each other brilliantly. They are both tough and determined. Mace, while being very forceful, is delightfully sweet and kind. And Cait is methodically intelligent and not easily intimidated. Together they seek to end the Prophet’s Curse once and for all.
A pulse-pounding series conclusion which leaves the reader always wanting one more chapter!
This is the fifth and final book in this stunning series and please be aware that you really need to read them all and in order to get the full story but as it such an action packed ride it isn't a problem to do that
Mace is the last brother standing that hasn't fallen in love after they all escaped from the GodsAcre cult and he is determined to finally bring the last of the players to their knees While scouting for how to destroy them he stumbles onto a woman Cait LaMott a virologist whose father disappeared 14 years earlier and who she is searching for. He was the virologist working for this doomsday cult even if it wasn't by choice She is willing to help the men finally destroy the cult but first she will need to gain their trust and the hardest one of all to convince will be Mace but they cannot deny the electricity between them Will this family finally find peace and will Mace finally get a woman of his own You will have to read to see
If anyone knows how to wrap up a series with a bang, it is Shannon McKenna! Havoc was a great finish to the Hellbound Brotherhood. If you haven't read the series before, I feel that it is absolutely necessary to read it in order due to the underlying story. Mace is the youngest Trask brother and has felt that his older brothers and friends aren't taking the threat of Kimball as seriously as they should be because they are now distracted by the women who have entered their lives. Mace is never going to let that type of distraction enter his world. Well never say never Mace! Enter virologist Cait LaMott, she's on her own mission and when her world and Mace's intersect...wow! That's all I'm going to tell you because the rest is a story that you need to read. It is full of Shannon McKenna's brand of action, intrigue, tension, angst, heat and ultimately love. Havoc was told from dual POV and I highly recommend this entire series for fans of romantic suspense.
Cait’s father disappeared fourteen years ago and she is up at GodsAcre looking for clues about him. She followed in his footsteps and became a virologist. Mace is the youngest of the Trask brothers and was a former Marine. Now he owns a security company and has taken several months off to set a trap for Kendall, the crazy who’s trying to kill him and his brothers. When he sees Cait sneaking around up there he tackles her and takes her to his cabin. Once he hears her story, they team up with his brothers to take Kendall down. When the truth comes out, Mace could lose the only woman who has ever had this kind of effect on him.
So very good. Action, secrets, and sex. It will keep hooked from the first. I believe this is the last book in this series. Can be read alone but might be best to read the others.
* Received a copy from author for my honest review *
Mace is the last of the Trask brothers to get his story. He is doing his part to help end the havoc that God's Acre has wreaked on their lives when he spies Cait LaMott creeping around the land looking for something. They are both searching. He is looking for a dangerous person that was presumed dead but who is still doing awful things. She is searching for her father who has been missing for 14 years. Together they are a pretty combustible combo and they team up both to try to resolve their mysteries and personally as their chemistry is instant and strong. I will not tell the story or reveal things that took me by surprise as this series came to an end but this final installment did not disappoint.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I think that this is probably my favorite book of the series. You don't need read the others, this is can be regarded as a standalone however reading the others will give you a better context. Cait finds her way to Shaw's crossing ion search of answers regarding her fathers disappearance. Mace, a Shaw's crossing ex resident is scoping out the area and sees Cait. What follows is a race to uncover truths and to finally end the reign of the terror that the Prophet has held over the town and to stop his devious plans. Both Cait and Mace are easy characters o like, Cait seems to blend in well with the rest of the team and their future looks bright.
To note: there are some sentence structures issues, there may be some issues with the downloads; sentences don't seem to make sense and there are continuity issues.
What a thrilling end to this series - from the beginning to the end. Cait is following some clues left by her father and is in a cavern when she is tackled by a caveman. Some first meeting for Cait and Mace! And as Cait quickly finds out, there are sinister forces at work, and Mace needs to decide if she can be trusted by both him and his family. Soon they are working together to determine what Cait's father left behind and to stay one step ahead of Redd Kimball. But the one thing they can't fight is their attraction to each other. So many ups and downs, twists and turns in this story will have you turning the pages until you get to the end.
This is definitely a thrill ride. There are secrets and there is action and suspense and mystery. There is fun and sweet and soft and hard. Cait is fun and snarky and spunky and a real live wire. Mace is alpha and protective and sexy and hard headed and tough. There is a time to smack him in the head and more times to hug him tight. This is my first to read in this series and I recommend you read the other books first. The villian is scary and slippery. A grab the seat of your pants afternoon read. 4.5 stars
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Well written and unique! While the last in the series, it's the first I have read from it. While enjoyable and good alone, I think it would have been better had I read the previous books. When I first began, seeing brief summaries of what they've been through, I really questioned if I even wanted to read this book because it seemed so different from my normal and closer to books I don't like (I hate horror) that I was wary. But I'm so glad I pushed on! Great romantic suspense! Now I just need to go back to read the others.
*I am leaving an honest and voluntary review after receiving this book as an arc.
Attraction & Danger!! This whole series has been super spicy and crazy suspenseful. Caitlin is spunky and speaks her mind.
Cait let out a long sigh. “Holy Moses,” she said. “Your family is a trip and then some. I see where you get it from.”
“Me, too. I’ve never felt more glad to be alive than I feel in this moment.” She whipped her shirt off.
Mace is the last brother that grew up in God’s Acre. Taught not to trust anyone but there sparks are to much to resist. This author has been a long time favorite of mine and even though this is the last book in this series I know she’ll come up with more page turning goodness in the future.
Shannon McKenna keeps up the heat and the suspense in her newest novel. I've always like how she can keep your attention locked into the plot and this one was much the same. As Mace is working to lay a trap, he unexpectedly meets Cait and it was interesting how much she ends up playing a role in the plot. The two of them are both quite stubborn, but their connection is fantastic. I enjoyed her character as she is courageous and smart. I think that its the best book in the series so far.

Exciting, entertaining story, part of a series. An exciting backdrop, the ruins of what was once a cult commune, a common enemy, a threat to the world... After 15 years, Cait finds out what happened to her father and encounters Mace, who, together with his brothers try to stop the villain who has already done a lot of damage to their family. They don&t trust each other at first, but still have to work together to prevent a crash, catchy writen style

When Cait wanders into the middle of a trap, the only thing Mace can do it snatch her and take her away. Their instant attraction is beyond anything. I loved the characters, and the story. I started with this book and it does stand alone, but I’m going back to read the previous books because I can see that there is way more to the storyline than what I got. This feels like the end of a series and I want the whole story. Most excellent. Action packed, tons of chemistry between the characters and both are strong and determined. The enemy is closing in and the action is fast paced.
Couldnt put it down. Steamy and danger. Mace is one of the Trask brothers who escaped from a cult. He is a loner. But when he sees Cait trespassing he captures her and wants to know why she is there. Shes looking for her father. He and his brothers know who her father is he has developed a vaccine that will cure all viruses. But their enemy Kimball has taken it and turned it into a weapon. The brothers think she is connected to Kimbal and she must prove that shes not. This and all other books are a great read.
This is the conclusion of this series. It is a standalone, however it is best read in order. This is the story of Mace and Cait. Mace is the youngest brother and is setting a trap for the man whobtried to kill his brothers. When Cait shows Mace tackles her and takes hercto a cabin. There is instant attraction and they sgree to help each other. This book will have you in suspense until the end Great ending to the series.

This was entertaining. I’ve never read anything from this author before but enjoyed this quite a bit. The heroine was feisty and the Hero was a big cinnamon roll.
I hadn’t read the other books, but the author does a good job of giving you the info you need to be able to keep up with the overarching story. She also summarizes quickly the previous books so I wasn’t lost at all.
The suspense was definitely there, and we don’t have to wait a long time for things to happen. I was tense the whole story waiting for the next time the villain would strike.
This was a fantastic and thrilling read. I really enjoyed the suspense and characters. They pulled me in from beginning to end and had me connected the entire time. They interacted well together and I loved their banter and the way their relationship built throughout the story. The story flowed smoothly and moved at a great pace. It was highly entertaining and I truly enjoyed it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
