The Mob Boss' Pet

Rate this book
I wanted a pet, and I take what I want.My men grabbed Stephania Benzitto because my brother needed a doctor and I'd prefer to avoid the kind of questions I'd have to answer if we went to a hospital, but that's not why I kept her.Stephania is kneeling at my feet wearing nothing but a leash, a collar, and the stripes of my belt on her beautiful bare bottom because I've decided to make her my pet, and a pet must be tamed. She will be caged until she learns to obey. Then she will find out how good pets are rewarded...Publisher's The Mob Boss' Pet includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

There are things I like about this book but there are also some parts that annoy the heck out of me. For example Vincenzo, having never met Stephania before, just "knows", in that popular mind-reading domly way , that not only is she submissive but that she will love his particular brand of kink. Later we are told that she enjoys a specific type of porn, maybe as evidence and perhaps permission, or an excuse, for Vincenzo's behaviour. Balancing that, and dub/non consent punishment aside, Vincenzo is fairly sweet and tender towards Stephania and obviously does see her as a person rather than an object. They really do have a great connection and wonderful chemistry.

Some, not all but some, of the writing left me with a 'tell not show' feel, a result of this being a fairly quick read. Personally my enjoyment is driven by characters, not the plot. I need to understand motivations, believe in the person enough that they feel 'real' and most importantly to care about them. That's me though and many readers will love this story for the risque elements, the darker plot basis, the fast pace and the insta-love between the main protagonists. Horses for courses and this ride, whilst OK, was never going to be more than a gentle trot for me.

I have gradually come to realise something about my own response to "dark" romance and whether it works for me or not. It is that I need the antihero to be aware that his actions are wrong. Even if that acknowledgement occurs only in his head. I just cannot connect with, like nor admire a 'hero' who does bad things but believes he is both justified and totally in the right.

I find that I am triggered when the man, in this case Vincenzo, is convinced that he is perfectly justified in punishing a woman for trying to escape enforced captivity. Especially when he uses some variation of the phrase "you brought this on yourself/ this punishment is your fault", his justification based on the fact that at some point he warned his unwilling prisoner that escape attempts would be punished. Because what reasonable and sane person isn't going to try and escape at the earliest opportunity? What is worse is that, as with many of these hapless heroines, Seraphina seems to accept that she deserved the punishment. It wasn't explicitly stated but more implied by her lack of refuting his right to administer one. This heroine wasn't passive but, for a supposedly intelligent woman, she didn't try to stand her ground enough for me.

Whilst "Dark" is a very subjective term research and numerous discussions over several years, both with other readers and authors, has led to a conclusion that it usually infers there are instances of dubious and or non-consensual acts, possibly including rape. This book does not contain rape, though one could argue that some/many of the punishments are non-consensual. That said, this didn't feel all that dark to me, since Stephania sails through with barely a ripple on the lake of her emotions. I "feel" the dark through emotions, rather than "see" it through actions. Many of you will be different to me and I'm sure you will very much enjoy the style of dark contained in this book, finding it an incredibly captivating read. Heck I've read one star reviews that have made me want to read a book! We all look for different things, and this has great characterisation and good writing to add to its style of dark.

Many, many people will 100% love this book and that's fine by me, we all have our own tolerances, likes and dislikes on these things. Some of it I adored, other bits just scrapped on my nerve endings like nails down a chalkboard. If you enjoyed Mafia Lullaby I really think you will like this one too. It isn't a bad book, I am definitely NOT saying don't read it, I'm just stating that this particular book wasn't for me.

I get the appeal - kind of a classic fanfic fantasy right? But the whole story seemed so outlandish that I couldn't get into it. They kidnap a doctor while she's getting her morning coffee and then keep her around to patch up one guy? Because there aren't a million under the table doctors just slobbering to get that mob check in a big city? And the fact that they wanted her to get them meds for their illegal treatment just seemed mind-numbingly dumb to me. A hospital would catch her ass on the second unauthorized prescription. They care more about their drugs than they do their doctors at this point in history.

Just not for me. I didn't really think the smut made up for it either.

This is Measha Stone's latest pet play book (though it doesn't seem to be set in the same world as the "Owned and Protected Series").

Dr. Stephania Benzitto inadvertently walks in on the aftermath of a gangland hit. After tending to one of the survivors, she is kidnapped and taken to the home of her patient's mafioso brother, Vincenzo. He refuses to let her leave until his brother recovers. The rest of the book details their growing relationship, depicted via his love for pet play (cages, collars, water bowls, tails), which the very vanilla doctor takes to like a duck to water. After the usual push/pull common in these generic books, a major roadblock arises: what will happen once Stephania is no longer needed? Can Vincenzo let her go, given what she knows about his business? And, if not and they decide to remain together, how will they reconcile their very different lifestyles?

First, let me say two things. One, the stakes here create real tension since the couple faces a seemingly near-insurmountable obstacle. Because of that, I was invested in staying with the story since I was curious as to how they would work this out. And, two, this isn't particularly "dark" as I define it (and it shouldn't be since there's no disclaimer): that is, the H, though a criminal, doesn't harm or rape the h. For me, this was a relief. (Side Note: The central irony here is that he's a lot more careful with her than most of the law-abiding H's who were brutal to their h's in the "Owned and Protected" series.)

That said, much of this book was inexplicable to me. Ms. Stone has written several books that are competently written so I was surprised that this was so slapdash. I felt as though I were reading a collection of scenes rather than a story with a clear thruline, cause-and-effect relationships, and rising action. Chapters stop and start very suddenly, and with no transitions between them so I have no idea how much time has elapsed at any point in this story; characters appear and disappear with no explanation; and the author provides so few details that I can't tell you what any of the characters look like.

All of the above gives the impression of a book written in a hurry. This isn't helped by the speed-of-light at which the romantic/erotic relationship develops. While I understand that the relatively short length of this genre means that we'll never see love stories unfold at the pace of say, Doctor Zhivago, this was serious insta insta-love: one moment Vincenzo is ordering Stephania to care for his injured brother; the next he's thinking of her as "my girl" and telling her that they'll "play." At what moment and why did he become attracted to her?

Though I appreciated that Stephania was a professional, her arc was equally unconvincing. She's kidnapped by criminals, held against her will, threatened with guns and she...strips; feels "calm" after he belts her; and lets him finger her to the point of arousal? "Betraying body syndrome," indeed. Side Note: Kudos to whoever came up with that phrase.

While I get that this is fiction, an author does need to make their world coherent and I found little of this one believable. This book simply asked too much of me -- and I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to accept any of it. I couldn't believe that Vincenzo, on absolutely no evidence, just knew that Stephania was submissive and "craved" punishment (oh, but how convenient! she loves porn!). I couldn't believe that he would risk traumatizing the one person who was keeping his brother alive. I couldn't believe that he had this much time to play with his "pet" when his criminal empire was under siege. I couldn't believe that two people who never have a single conversation could fall in love. And I couldn't believe that anyone with the drive and dedication to get through medical school and the courage and stamina to work in an ER would behave the way Stephania does. Ultimately, this h is such an empty vessel that she has no wants, aspirations, or desires of her own: she puts up little more than token resistance to her situation and spends the majority of the book simply reacting to the H.

Finally, the H and h's erotic relationship begins with the usual very tired and very frustrating: "I'm going to spank you for very reasonably objecting to my holding you against your will" and "How dare you disobey me even though I've just kidnapped you, terrified you, and done nothing to earn your trust." Really, authors, just don't.

2 stars. This book needed a beta reader, an editor, or time. And, authors, say it with me now: it's "rein" NOT "reign."

ETA: I want to respond to this very thoughtful and well-written review (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/6...), but because my own review is so long (I always promise myself I’ll shorten them, but then…don’t), I’m going to put my reaction under a spoiler (even though it doesn’t give away anything about this book) for those who don’t want to wade through it.

Measha's stories are always full of passion and incredible story lines.
Stephania and Vincenzo meet under unbelievable circumstances, and there is spark and fire between them. There is passion that Stephania had never dreamed of before and struggled because she thought she should not like it.
This story was steady, consistent, and very, very hot!

Welp. That was hot.
I must’ve been in a completely different mood the first time I tried to read this because I didn’t even get past the first chapter that time.
I’m glad I did this time.
I really loved the kink in this book, and the reluctantly developing relationship that sort of sneaks up on the characters.
And then of course he fucks it up and has to go after her. As a man, he can’t just get it right the first time.😉😂No but seriously, after reading a couple of books by this author close together, I’ve noticed a pattern.
Steal the girl away, bend her to your will and make her obey while unintentionally falling for her, send her away, then run after her and take her back.
And that’s the formula for most of this author’s books.
Not that I’m complaining. It totally works for me.
I just think it’s funny to see where authors use the same outline.

I’m glad I picked this back up.
I really enjoy pet play included in my romances more than I realized and there’s not that many of them out there.

This book was a short pet play story that really captured my attention. For how short it is, Measha Stone continues to provide refreshing twists and turns that keep the story engaging.

Dr. Stephania Benzitto is an emergency room doctor who heads to her favorite little coffee shop. She is taken against her will and forced to assist in saving Vincenzo's younger brother Roberto who has been shot.

Stephania and Vincenzo play well together, and I particularly enjoyed the banter between the two characters. Vincenzo is very in control of Stephania and he punishes her when she disobeys him. This book includes plenty of spice and kinky play.

Despite missing each other, Stephania and Vincenzo found a connection in each other, and I loved that they got their happy ending!

First time reading Measha Stone, and I definitely want to read more of her books.

3.5 ⭐️

This was short but well written story featuring pet play. The scenes with pet play were really well done and overall I liked the storyline.
My problem was with characters though. I didn’t buy their insta connection and didn’t understand what made Stephania so special. And while she seemed strong and feisty character at first, she just gave in to Vincenzo’s demands and was suddenly just happy to serve him. I really wished there was more to these two characters.
So while I liked the storyline and appreciated well written pet play kink, I couldn’t connect with characters to fully enjoy this one.

This latest by Measha Stone is a somewhat dark romance that contains some pet play. Stephania inadvertently walks into a coffee shop just after a mob shooting. Since she is a dr., the mob guys kidnap her to care for one of the victims. This is how she becomes the mob boss' pet. This book is not part of the Owned and Protected series, which I did enjoy. This book to me felt too rushed, so while I didn't hate it, I will say I had difficulty connecting with the characters. Vincenzo just wasn't all that likable which I guess makes sense for a mob boss but doesn't always make for a good romance hero.

Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Stephanie, an ER doctor, just happened to be in her favorite coffee shop when her life takes a drastic turn. Caught in the middle of a mob hit, she is taken prisoner by Vincenzo when his little brother is shot. He's instantly attracted to her and while she does resist, she's attracted to him also. I like instant love stories sometimes and this one hit the right notes for me. The connection between them was intense at times but it's there. It was a quick read but it was packed with all the feelings!! Loved it!

*KU Read

Measha Stone is one of my go-to authors and I was so excited to find The Mob Boss' Pet. A mob boss that has a kink in pet play, I couldn't put this book down. Vincenzo is everything you could want in a mob boss, dominate, alpha, and has a kink he really enjoys to act on.

Stephania (love the name) is an ER doctor that is taken for her medical needs when Vincenzo decides he wants to play with her he decides he will use any means to keep her.

I loved this story.

Stephania gets her coffee at the wrong moment. She steps into the world of the mob when she helps a man who is shot.

Taken to keep on helping him and falling into the hands of his eldest brother the mob boss.
Who takes care of her and her needs by making her his pet while she takes care of his little brother.

What follows is many hot moments when she discovers she likes it and wants to stay.

If you are into these books, this is a good story to read.

Blushing 😊

I can’t believe I enjoyed that! I’m questioning my own sanity right now! Vincenzo was a bastard throughout this entire book. I kept expecting him to get better but he is who he is🤷🏽‍♀️. I still believe Stephania has Stockholm’s but I guess we love who we love.

It wasn’t terrible but was all over the place. Never really got a feel for the characters and kind of hard to believe the female lead would submit so easily. It was a very forgettable book and not worth it. Complete waste of time

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

A quick stop at the corner cafe quickly turns Stephanie's life upside down. taken by the Manetto family and forced to care for one of their own. Stephania finds herself at the mercy of the head of the family. Vinenzo Manetto doesn't have time for much else other than work in his life, but his family means everything to him. So when his younger brother is shot, he decides to keep the doctor in order to give his brother every fighting chance. At least that's what he tells himself. The search for the shooter continues, and Stephania must find a way to survive her captivity. Vincenzo's made it clear what he expects of her, but can she keep her strong spirit alive while she's playing the mob boss' pet?

Stephania was an Emergency Room Doctor. One night after getting off late she decides to stop for coffee at her favorite spot on her way home. However when she goes in she sees that the owner Tony is super nervous and acting really strange. This leads to her being taken into the back room by two men where she finds a man dead from a gunshot wound to the head and the other is bleeding so badly from a shoulder wound. Doing what she can with what little she has she sews him up with a sewing kit doing the very best that she can that is the last thing she remember before waking in a cellar and is put in charge of taking care of the brother of a mafia kingpin. Vincenzo Menettto. Will she be able to escape the mess she finds herself in or will they keep her forever and life as she knows it will be gone forever. You have to read to find out. I really liked this book and if you like dark stories you will too

The Mob Boss’ Pet is a stand alone, dark mafia romance. Stephania is getting off shift and grabbing a coffee when she’s ordered by gun point to save a young man’s life. Now she’s captured the mob boss’ attention and while she saves his brother, she also becomes his. But will Vincenzo ever give Stephania up?

This book is so fast paced, my heart was pounding from the very first chapter, and my favorite pet play romance author has returned in the best of ways! Scenes were intense and so steamy, the tension ran high between the couple, and there was a perfect blend between the dark mafia capture story and an almost insta-love feel, I just couldn’t resist! Vincenzo has the weight of the world on his shoulders, is wicked and dominant and will absolutely get his way, in and out of his bedroom. Stephania has this battle that rages within her mind, body, and heart, about what she should feel, versus what she wants and needs, and I loved watching her tumble into love. They had some crazy chemistry between them, but they also worked well outside of personal time, and I loved that she provided a sounding board and support to Vincenzo. There is some mafia themed drama and suspense, but I feel like the main focus was on the relationship. I really enjoyed this book! If I could have read it in one sitting, I definitely would have! So good!

Such a great read! What starts off as an abduction of sorts, when Stephania is forced to treat Vincenzo’s brother and then is kept a virtual prisoner by him until the brother is completely healed, turns into an “enemies to lovers” story but with a whole lot more. Vincenzo is a Mob Boss and is a Dom as well, one who enjoys (demands) pet play. Stephania is an ER doctor who believes she does not have a submissive bone in her body let alone any internal kink such as being a pet. She is sadly mistaken and he shows her the error of her ways many times over, from caging to plugging, tailing and training. One super quote from the book sums up the story to a T “Vincenzo lives by a strict code. Betrayal deserves revenge. Disobedience deserves punishment.” In a battle of wills, will he break her and/or can she break him? A great pet story, a very engrossing mafia plot, and an overall loving romance. While Vincenzo is hard to like at the beginning, he’s even harder not to love by the end. Get ready for a hopping great read. 5 STARS

Stephania Benzitto Is a surgeon that helped Roberto from dying and to keep his brother from a relapse. Vincenzo the mob boss has her kidnapped. These characters are engaging and well developed with hot and steamy chemistry. The storyline flowed smoothly from beginning to the end.

A little gem of a story.
A story of brotherhood, of things going wrong, betrayal, revenge, but among all the wrongs there grows a love that seems impossible.
Seems wrong on so many levels, but feels so very right!

Vincenzo and Stephania's story had me torn in two.... I like the general setting of the book, the writing style and the chemistry between the main characters BUT the "steamy" moments and some of the interactions between the main characters, nop, nah, they weren't for me...

DNF @ 30%. Even though “pet” is in the title I wasn’t anticipating actual pet play. I thought it would be a typical “possessive alpha” mafia guy type of story. It’s a no from me. I wanted to punch the ML in the face multiple times and that’s no way to get me invested in the story. 3 stars just because I KNOW that people who’re into pet play books will probably like it.

Good not great

I liked the plot. Kidnapped doctor to take care of mob boss’s brother’s gunshot wounds. Doctor is kept by the boss to be a pet: collar, ears, tail; you get it. That’s the part that felt really forced. If you read it, you’ll see why. Otherwise, it was a good story. Good not great.

Measha Stone has outdone herself with The Mob Bass's Pet.Her ability
at writing mafia stories is second to none. .This book took my breath
away.This is not a sweet romance,but rather a baptism of fire.An gritty,
steamy tale filled with intrigue, betrayal, loss and when you least expect
it,love.

Doctor Stephania Benzitto never expected that stopping at her local
bistro would see her being the pet for mafia boss,Vincenzo Manetto.
She was given no choice but to help Vincenzo's wounded brother. She
became his pawn.He will make her bend.He will make her obey or face
painful punishments. Her mind screamed no but her body betrayed her.
He became the strength she could count on.Even when she didn't want
it.

This book was more about the emotional connection and real emotions
that Stephania and Vincenzo shared. He was a harsh man that was in a
turmoil that was heartbreaking.I was surprised at how quickly Stephania
went from being trapped at his mercy to craving his touch. There are
many graphic and detailed sex scenes that had me on fire.Pet play also
features heavily plus punishment scenes.A gripping read that will take
you on a journey on the dark side.

Stephania was an Emergency Room doctor who got off late and decided to get a coffee from her favorite coffee shop on her way home. She sees that the owner Tony is nervous and upset, and that there are a couple of men watching her in her hospital scrubs...she asks Tony if there is a problem, and was shown into the back room where one man dead from gunshot in head and the other bleeding profusely from a shoulder wound. She is uses a sewing kit to stop worst of bleeding after advising that the wound needs to be seen at a hospital...but woke up in cellar of house where she is now supposed to be taking care of brother of Mafia kingpin, Vincenzo Manetto. She does order antibiotics and pain medications after telling them again that he really needs a hospital, then tries to escape...of course this earns her a spanking...and she kind of likes it...but this is just the beginning of her captivity, but you will need to read this titillating tale to see what happens. Now this is a book worthy of 5 stars!!! Not only is it deliciously naughty but it has the most engaging plot to go with it. I lost so much sleep staying up to read it. There's danger, suspense, the hottest scenes EVER, and a very strong storyline that sucks you in.

Vincenzo knows when he sees Stephania that he must have her no matter if she likes it or not. Finding every excuse to keep her. He has a kink side to him that not every woman can handle but he senses right away that Stephania not only would be a perfect pet for him but that she needs it in her life even if she doesn't realize it. She needs a firm hand but also to be cherished.

There's plenty of ups and downs and power struggles between the two before it ends with the absolute best and sweetest happy ever after ending.
