She awoke in a world not her own...
One minute Sophie was standing on the deck of her first pleasure cruise, marveling at the stars and the majesty of the sea. The next minute, she was in the water, clinging to debris while the ocean burned around her.

Hundreds of lost ships, lashed together to form an entire city of floating wreckage, housing legions of men of war. Now Sophie is trapped in the middle of a forgotten world run by bullets, rust, and a brutal tyrant who wants to keep Sophie's very existence a secret... by any means necessary...

If she wants to go home, her only hope is to trust in the scarred and haunted soldiers aboard an ancient patrol boat dubbed The Mercy. With sadistic assassins in pursuit, they're plunged headlong into the mainland continent that they're forbidden from ever returning to. It is a land of monsters, ghosts, and death. An impossible world that Sophie doesn't understand... because this was not the world she left when she originally set sail. Now her homeland is a vast hellscape of destruction and death; and Sophie begins to contemplate where she can run to when she's not even sure where or what home is any longer.

A few self reflections from the author:
This was the first novel I ever wrote when I was just a gawky high school kid. It only took about four rewrites and 18 years to mature. Each one got gradually better, and while I ended up repeatedly packing this project back up and tucking it into a dusty corner of my brain in order to move onto other projects, I was determined not to give up on this one.
By now, I have somewhat of a reputation for murder mystery and paranormal novels. This one is very different. It's far less grounded in reality and spins into more of a nightmarish fantasy world. Sort of a "Wizard of Oz" meets "Apocalypse Now." It's more of a linear adventure with little jumping around, which to me is a very welcome break.
People often ask me which of my novels is my favorite. That's tough to answer. I know I'm not really supposed to pick favorites, but I do. There are novels that were my favorite to write, but upon going back and rereading, they weren't my favorite to read. In regards to Chasing Rabbits, while it was definitely *not* my favorite to write, it was (by far) my favorite to go back and reread.
So if you want a good summer adventure, I hope you enjoy this one!
