Bulletproof

Rate this book
Dylan Prescott has all the answers, even when she doesn’t know the questions. She’s in her element cruising the singles scene and crushing cases as a newly minted NYPD detective. Equal parts free spirit and thrill seeker, catching bad guys and charming good girls are what she was born to do.

Briana Logan doesn’t play. A successful Assistant United States Attorney with several convictions on her résumé, she’s a commanding presence in the courtroom. In any room, to be honest. Smart and sexy, she’s got her work-life balance down. It’s simple: career first, everything else second. That is, until Dylan Prescott is assigned to the team investigating a sophisticated narcotics ring.

Their chemistry is undeniable, but the complicated NYC criminal justice system doesn’t leave room for real feelings. Keeping their emotions in check isn’t easy. Where the heart is concerned, no one is bulletproof.

This wlw action romance novel kept me on my toes. A few times when I was thinking that the plot was moving in a particular direction, it proved me wrong, both in the action and romance departments. It kept me expecting the other shoe to drop which was fun and unexpected.

Dylan Prescott is a police detective who gets the chance to join the investigation into a drug dealers‘ ring. Briana Logan is the Assistant United States Attorney in charge of prosecuting that case. When their professional and personal lines start to blur, and their mutual attraction difficult to avoid, they will have to make hard decisions between their jobs and love…

Some authors write plot-driven tales, some others character-driven ones, but Ms. Cummings creates relationship-driven stories. In that department, she’s in a league of her own. She weaves the net of relationships skillfully through natural-sounding dialogues, everyday situations, and a good dose of reality. She creates intimate, authentic spaces and invites the reader to a fly on the wall voyeuristic experience into the lives of the main characters. I love when authors can create something meaningful out of ordinary life situations.

‘Bulletproof’ is mainly a romance but there is a good deal of police procedural on the side. Because Ms. Cummings is a police captain with the NYPD, she knows what she’s talking about. I wish she’d write more in that genre, I think that considering her knowledge and experience along with her talent as an author, she would knock it out of the park. This book left me craving for more of that. Just saying…

Regarding the love story itself, even though it follows the usual romance novel formula, Ms. Cummings smartly avoids the stereotypes. Her presentation of the ‘black moment’ and the ‘grand gesture’, doesn’t strictly follow the genre norms. She even spared us from commonplace scenes in the action parts, especially at the end. I’m glad she didn’t fall into the temptation to create larger than life characters. Both women are more than interesting enough.

If you are looking for a beautiful romance with a side of police procedural and a little bit of action, you are gonna enjoy ‘Bulletproof’. As usual, Maggie Cummings doesn’t disappoint. Here’s hoping for an audiobook version. 5 stars.

I am a big fan of romances and also of crime stories. Maggie Cummings mixes both perfectly together.

When Dylan Prescott, an NYPD detective, gets the chance to join the investigation team, which tries to bring down a drug dealer ring, she jumps at this chance immediately. Briana Logan is the Assistant United States Attorney assigned to this investigation.

Both MC's are in a place in their lives where career comes first. Briana is convinced that she can't have a healthy relationship if the job always comes first. Dylan is just playing the field, she doesn't do relationships. When they first met at a dance location, they felt the attraction from the first second they laid eyes on each other. But when the next day at work they both are placed on the same investigation, it is like a cold shower. They can't jump into bed together and work on the same case, that could impair judgment. But the more often they see each other, the harder it gets to hold back.

When the two can no longer resist and embark on a secret affair, life becomes more colorful and sexy on the one hand, but harder, on the other hand, the secrecy makes everything a bit more complicated. I like the storyline of a secret love affair. Started as a non-committed affair, it doesn't take long until feelings are involved and the affair develops more and more into a love story. The chemistry was hot and the sparks flying high like in a big fire until they finally are trying to douse the flames in their bodies with hot and steamy sex.

But actually, the problems only start after they have found a supposed solution. In this time we learn a lot about the two MCs when we sit in Dylan's and Briana's heads and witness what's going on in them.

Although police work must take a back seat to romance, the investigation is excitingly well integrated. The author works in the police force herself and brings her own knowledge and experience to the story, as an added bonus.

This author has the gift of weaving police work and romantic interests together so that you are gripped by both strands of the story. And I love this combination, it is like a delicious apple pie and as a dot on the "i" (as we are saying) whipped cream on top of it. Delicious.

Highly recommended, an easy and exciting book. I hope we get more from Briana and Dylan.
My rating 5 stars.

4.5* – Maggie Cummings writes really nice characters. Like, really really nice. I want them to be happy. They make my heart squeeze and breathe.

A detective in the Vice squad, Dylan Prescott overhears a few sentences in a bar that lead to a breakthrough in a Major Case investigation, which earns her a place on the team. Briana Logan is the Assistant US Attorney (AUSA) on the case. She’s also the woman Dylan was flirting with yesterday. Neither is looking for a serious relationship. Both agree their career is their priority. But life has a way of making you reconsider those priorities when you meet The One.

I love the forbidden love trope. It’s very exciting and when what makes it impossible is work, I love it even more because no on really gets hurt when the characters can’t resist anymore. Love wins because that’s the way it should be.

Cummings knows how to inject just enough angst to make things interesting but what I like best is the characters’ journey to realizing what they’re feeling is bigger than them. I like that both Dylan and Briana are relatable and very lovable, more complicated than they first seem to be, and as the story unfolds, more layers appear, more complexities, more flaws too, which all contribute to creating characters I can’t help caring about.

The romance is at the forefront here, which totally worked for me, but the police procedural storyline was pretty good too. I guess it helps that Maggie Cummings works in law enforcement in real life and knows what she’s talking about. Everything about the investigation, the police work, the relationships between colleagues rang true.

I’d love it if this turned out to be the first book in a series. There’s real potential for more.

I received a copy from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

3.75 stars. This book is a combined cop/crime story and a romance. The romance is the main storyline, but the crime story is nicely balanced and I found it a very interesting second storyline.

Dylan is a detective who just transferred to a new unit working on uncovering a drug ring. Briana is the Assistant US Attorney (AUSA) working with the unit and from the moment Briana and Dylan meet the sparks fly. However, they are both at a point in their life where they are not looking for a relationship and especially not one with a colleague. They decide to keep their interactions on a friendship level, but of course that’s not happening and before they know it they are more than friends. They decide to keep it a secret from their colleagues, but hiding their personal life is also eating away at them, so they have to find a solution to solve their problem.

I liked both mains, but the focus was slightly more on Dylan, so I had the feeling I got to know her just a bit better than Briana. Generally, I like one of the mains better than the other, but this book surprised me. In this book during the first part I absolutely loved Dylan, the second part though, I was all for Briana. Dylan is a butch player, but under all her bravado there is a super sweet and vulnerable person. Briana is a sexy femme, who is confident and smart. She is also a very caring person which shows in both her work and personal life where she tries to protect other people when possible.

During the romance there is some push-pull going on and some self-evaluation (considering they both wanted nothing more than a casual relationship), but things evolve rather naturally and are low on angst. However, at 80-90% in the book this changes quite dramatically. Yes, there is a big conflict moment. I don’t mind a conflict, but in this case I was wondering where the enormous amount of insecurity and angst came from. It was rather heavy on the drama, especially in comparison with the rest of the book which was much lighter. For me, this could have been a bit lighter, since there is loads of interesting stuff happening and I didn’t think this book really needed the additional drama (I think there will be plenty of people enjoying this plot twist, though). Other than that, I enjoyed the romance and they had good chemistry going on.

As mentioned, I really enjoyed the crime story, even if it was a smaller storyline. It felt very real, there were no mysteries to solve, but it shows a realistic (at least I think it is realistic) police investigation, including all the surveillance and work that goes into a big investigation, undercover operations and some action to top it off. I also enjoyed the secondary characters Stef and JJ, who had their own small romance. I was quite intrigued by their characters and actually could have read a book about their story, so I just wish I got to know what happened to them as this is left open to interpretation.

This was the first book I read by Cummings, and I found it an easy well-paced read, I will definitely read more of her books. I recommend this book to all who like a good cop story or crime investigation with a romance (and some drama).

‘Bulletproof’ is a sweet romance with a police/crime story on the side. The romance is the highlight of the story but the crime story is woven throughout as the main protagonists work together on the case.
Dylan works with the NYPD as a vice detective who overhears information that breaks open a major case. She is moved to the case and realizes the Assistant US Attorney over the case is the woman, Briana, she flirted with the day before. Their tentative plans to hook up later are halted as they now work together and Briana doesn’t like to mix pleasure and business.
This is fine at first as both Dylan and Briana are both very career oriented and have put having casual hookups over relationships up to this point. Dylan is known as the butch neighborhood stud with multiple women vying for her attention. Briana, a pansexual, is not interested in having a relationship, she’s just looking to have a good time and let off some steam. However, the sexual tension between them is off the charts and can’t be ignored and seems to grow with each interaction.
I thought the way Cummings navigates their growing attraction and feelings for each other was very natural and organic especially given the sort of high stakes (at times) situation they were in with their case. There was a bit of back and forth drama throughout from both beginning with if they should be in a relationship to trying to keep things hidden from the others on the squad. I liked that they were quick to communicate their issues for the most part. They dealt with things like jealousy with mostly humor and were able to work out their kinks fairly quickly. Well, until the “big drama” part started where I feel like they both let their pride get in the way a bit.
I’m not giving the story a full 5 stars because at about the 60% mark the story for me starts to lag and felt drawn out. It doesn’t last too long but I felt like a couple of chapters didn’t progress the story much aside from mentioning their jealousy of certain side characters, which had already been established. I also felt like Cummings was a bit too on the nose with the butch/femme stereotypes so that may be a more personal gripe of mine.
Overall, I really enjoyed ‘Bulletproof’ and as it was my first Maggie Cummings book, I truly can’t wait to read her other works. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes a little push/pull with their romance. There’s also some angst and jealousy deal with.

I really liked this book, it’s a satisfying four star read that in another release month might have led me to lean more towards a low five star, but compared to a couple of others this month it doesn’t quite reach there. I really loved how Cummings mixes the police operations with the relationship and romance side of things - and my favourite part of reading this was actually how much the relationship between the two MCs shines through.

Dylan is a detective for the NYPD working vice when she stumbles across a conversation in a bar and finds herself transferred to major crimes to make use of the information she’s learned. She has a reputation in her neighbourhood as a butch that’s down for no-strings attached. She meets Briana socially, they clearly have chemistry, and then they discover Briana is the AUSA on Dylan’s new case, putting the brakes on things.

I love it when I come across a book where the two main characters are depicted as not looking for relationships, then fall for each other. Cummings has done this aspect of the narrative really really well - delving deeply into the feelings experienced when someone has a reputation as a player and then finds themselves giving themselves to someone deeply. I really enjoyed the experiences of Dylan in this regard. I liked how their relationship softened Briana and showed her that career and love can happen.

There is the introduction of some secondary characters that are well written, but contribute to the angst, both in the workplace and in their personal lives. I appreciated the inclusion of a trans character - especially as Cummings didn’t pretend that this character would have had it easy in the police force.

Whilst the angst element of the book was done slightly differently within the normal tropes, and I can understand and empathise with Dylan’s feelings, the angst part of the book is the reason I can’t quite make it a five star, as I wanted them to fight for each other sooner.

I’d definitely recommend this one to romance fans and fans of cop based books in wlw fiction. I’m definitely going to be exploring more of Cummings’ work.

This was super good. Workplace romance is so taboo and yet ultimately satisfying. I loved the characters. The chemistry. The relationship drama. All of it. On top of it all, it had a fairly decent crime plot.

unfortunately this wasn’t my cup of tea at all. the writing/dialogue was bad, cheesy and unrealistic - almost shallow. i didn’t like the characters. the crime/police aspect had no action or intensity - very boring and lame. i skipped ahead and read their conflicts + arguments - they’re silly and annoying. idk, i’m not wasting my time on this one 😭 i’m sad i didn’t like it as much as Kelly 💔💔

3.75* This is an enjoyable romance between a detective and an assistant US attorney. Both Dylan and Briana started off not wanting a relationship. There's instant chemistry between them but because they're working on the same case, they tried to resist temptation. But as these things go, romance blossoms. I enjoy the police investigative aspect of the story. The focus of the book is more on the relationship between the 2 MCs. We find ourselves on this journey with the both of them as they come to terms with their feelings for each other and work out how to have a successful relationship.

After reading many reviews I was very anxious to read this story. But I feel like I didn't read the same book they did.
This is definitely a romance but after the first 3rd of the book I felt like the story was very repetitive.
Briana is an attorney and Dylan is a cop. They fall in love. But the problem is they work in the same department and are working on the same case. Briana is concerned about how a relationship with a co-worker will affect her career. And thats basically the story. Oh there is a little undercover work that Dylan does to catch some drug dealers but its not scary or dangerous. The story just goes on and on about how to hide their feelings from co-workers and how it will effect their careers.
AIthough its not mentioned, I kept thinking Dylan must be much younger than Briana because Dylan acts very immature. You will want to strangle her many times and then of course in the end she doesn't grow up but sort of wakes up.
Its an aggravating romance story and don't expect a mystery or action as some of the other reviews have stated.

My love for romance knows no bounds. I love when a police crime story still has the romance as its main focus. Too many times in this genre the opposite actually happens with the romance coming in a distant second. Maggie Cummings keeps a hot and sexy romance burning as the main event in her latest novel, Bulletproof.

Dylan Prescott get a fantastic job opportunity. This savvy police detective is rewarded the opportunity to work on an investigation with the Major Case Division working on taking down a narcotics ring. This is a big break for Dylan’s career. On the personal side of things, Dylan is all work and when she does play it’s with no-strings attached. She isn’t a player but the young detective has made her way through the ladies.

Our other main character is Briana Logan is the Assistant United States Attorney in charge of prosecuting the drug dealers that the Major Case Division is trying to take down. Briana is also 100% focused on her career and isn’t really interested in dating women at the moment. Too many of her past relationships have been overly complicated and looking towards the long-term too fast.

Cummings does a great job of giving us two workaholics who cannot help their growing attraction and affection for each other. You have two badasses who are exceptionally intelligent and skilled at what they do. Fir the first time ever someone makes them want something bigger than their careers. This author does an exceptional job a letting their growing attraction take hold and the communication and dialogue between the two was so natural and charming.

Great romance with a side of crime. You have to love a book that puts the bad guys in jail and the lady gets her girl. Maggie Cummings doesn’t let you down with Bulletproof, this is a really fantastic read.

Dylan and her crew are the kind of cops I like to read about, and not the ones that have been on the news. The synopsis really doesn't do Dylan or Brianna justice 'cause yes, Dylan's a charmer and a bit of a player, but she surprised me with how genuine and kind she is underneath all the bravado after meeting Brianna. Brianna was so against relationships and so focused on her career, but she surprised me with the sacrifices she makes for love.

Great characters, the both of them.

“We’re friends?” Briana suggested. “Friends who had one super-hot ,amazing hookup. Now we work together. To put bad guys in jail.”

“We sound like a TV show I would actually watch.”

Don't you just love when a book is so far up your alley you end up having high expectations for it and it actually lives up to the hype?! Because that was Bulletproof for me. A badass detective and a career-driven sexy attorney pairing is my CATNIP😭

So many things worked wonderfully for me in this book. Both leads were sexy and attractive in their own way; Dylan was sure and easygoing, Briana was confident and intelligent. Both are excellent at their professions. There were so many toe curling romantic moments, like Dylan constantly checking in with Briana to make sure she wasn't pressuring her into any decisions (consent is sexy what can I say!). The writing and the dialogue between characters felt younger and fresh, which has been a nice change of pace from older FF pairings I've read recently.

As strange as it is, I really appreciated that lack of tropeyness with this romance. It was your standard fall into lust, attraction, and eventually love- but done sooo well. Hold your pitchforks please, I'm still a fan of enemies to lovers! It just seems like there's a lot of them out there right now and it's a simple pleasure to have characters simply enjoy being around each other. I loved how both were so forthcoming and communicative about their motives and their mutual attraction. Neither Dylan nor Briana were looking for a serious relationship, yet their connection was so strong it had to happen anyway 😌 I was also a fan of the jealousy scenes, especially on Briana's part since she isn't one to get jealous to begin with.

The actual case they were working on involved busting a narcotics ring. It was honestly pretty straightforward, however I really enjoyed seeing how the author's own background as NYPD lent a lot of believability to the policework. I also liked learning how the police forces interact with the US Attorney's office. I had a great time with the side characters- Trevor was such a supportive friend and Stef was such a good roommate and foil to Briana.

The single part of this book that prevented it from being god tier for me was the 3rd act angst. I'm not a fan of one character making a major decision because they feel like it's best for the other. It didn't track with me considering how strongly they felt about one another, but I realized it wasn't all that unrealistic given the stresses of their professions. Still, the things Dylan said to Briana were unfair and hurtful, and Briana didn’t deserve that at all. The redeeming factor was that Briana knew Dylan well enough to understand the reasoning behind Dylan's actions. In the end I would've preferred to see Dylan grovel a bit for forgiveness, but a HEA is a HEA!

I will definitely be reading more of Maggie Cummings. BSB delivers again 🥰

TL;DR-Playgirl detective X Confident AUSA finally act on their attraction during a narcotics investigation and the romance is top tier. 4.25/5 stars!

I like my romances with a bit of crime and mystery, just to counteract all the sweetness that is going on, this book certainly promises that, but I am not 100% sure if it delivers.

Dylan is a detective with the NYPD, with a chance overhearing she gets transferred to Major Crimes. Dylan is all about her career as a detective and being the stud in the Brooklyn gaybourhood. After a basketball match Dylan meets Briana, there is an instant attraction between both women. But when Briana's best friend ruins their plans for the evening nothing comes of it. When AUSA Briana comes into the office the next time she meets detective Dylan, now she is happy nothing happened, and nothing will ever happen if it's up to her. She doesn't mix business with pleasure. Both women are used to hook-ups, only casual, but what they seem to share is much deeper. The case they work together involves a drug ring and when Dylan goes undercover Briana decides it's too much for her. Changes need to be made to keep their sanity and their jobs.

I suspect Dylan should have been this butch, player character who turns out to be the sweetest person ever and it should be a surprise. But it isn't, not really, because from the first meeting she is nothing but extremely nice and caring. Briana on the other hand is a bit cold and has drama queen tendencies, I have a hard time appreciating her character. I do understand how they work well together. My heart will always have a soft spot for characters like Dylan, mostly because I can identify with such characters (apart from being a cop). I really liked how the story developed and how both "players" realised there is no urge to play the field when you have found your match. And they are both strong women, a lot of the time there is a dynamic where not both characters are strong and unapologetic about what they want, really big plus!

Briana Logan is going up or she certainly hopes so. Working as a AUSA ( Assistant United States Attorney) for a number of years working mainly in cooperation with the local police to put a stop to the drug trade that has led to at least one death that they know of. She has a best friend Stef, who thinks Briana doesn’t give enough time to her love life. Now she finds herself working with a new detective that joined her team that has her looking for perhaps a little fun. That’s all she wants.
Dylan Prescott has worked her way up in the police force, from a beat cop to a detective where she hopes to make her mark. She overhears some bad guys talking and when she brings this info to her sergeant he quickly passes on to the team working to emulate the drug trade in their city. When she is asked to join the team she’s excited by the challenge but when she meets the AUSA working with the team. Briana was the woman she flirted with just this weekend.
Now both are working on the case and trying to manage their attraction. They finally decide to just be lovers on the side. That’s before they start to spend some time together and in getting to know each other, all the while trying to keep their relationship secret.
Ms Cummings has written other books I had the chance to read but most of the time they didn’t keep me interested to the end. Not so with “Bulletproof’ easily the best book, in my opinion she has produced thus far. Great read. Very, very enjoyable.

I had a couple of issues with this one, not enough to use the 3 stars, but enough to take the time and state that this gets a 3.5 stars rating even though I'm using 4 stars.

It build up, and up, and up, preparing you for the climax (romantically and with the investigation) and then it just stayed there. Nothing monumental happened. Just pretty easy and simple drama. I mean, it does happen something, but the build up got me expecting more.

But I liked it. The MCs aren't damsels in distress, nor untouchable "I hate feelings" types. They are complex, interesting, ambitious but not stereotypical workaholics. So that's why it's 4 even if its a 3.5.

I enjoyed this book overall.
Most of the characters were interesting, easy to root for and be suspicious of others. I would have liked to have seen the bad guys developed a bit more, and seen a bit of their resolution. We never really see what happens to them. I also had unanswered questions that bothered me at 4 AM, what happens to JJ and Stef? Was JJ fooling around?
As much as I didn't understand Dylan's mindset 3/4 of the way through (read it, you'll understand), I was pleased with the way it ended.
This was my first book by this author, and I'll happily seek out more.

This right here is the one that I’ve been waiting for from Cummings, when someone puts words to paper about what they know and love you can tell.
The chemistry between the two mains was amazing. With each chapter it pulled me in and made me excited to turn the page. The banter and flirting between Dylan and Briana was just enough to keep you wanting more. The chapters flowed together seamlessly and kept me engaged in the storyline. If your looking a good action story with some hot steamy romance thrown in then this is a book your gonna need to read

Rep: w|w, lesbian mc, pansexual mc, lesbian side characters, trans side character, poc side character

I received an early copy of this by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I'm starting to think this author is a guarantee for quality adult Sapphic romance. This is the third book I've read by Maggie Cummings and I was not disappointed.

I'm giving this 4 solid stars, I loved the main characters, a detective and a lawyer, they had flaws, they made mistakes and they apologized and that felt very realistic. Their chemistry was off the charts and don't get me started on the steamy scenes! I also found myself giggling a few times because their banter was just that well-written. The story was very entertaining, I like my romances with a bit of action. Moreover, I'm glad the side characters weren't cardboard cutouts but were instead an important part of the story, they didn't just exist because of the MCs and they were what made the novel truly inclusive.
The prose was very enjoyable and easy to read, the chapters not overly long.

Now onto the reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars: the use of the expression "You're such a pussy" which I find very offensive and don't like finding in books (or anywhere else to be honest).
The second reason is that the love story between the MCs was a bit rushed especially in the first 30%, I would've liked it to develop a bit more slowly.

Overall I enjoyed this and I would definitely recommend it. I'm definitely going to read this author's next novels.

This is the second book by Maggie Cummings I've read (Brooklyn Summer is the other). this popped up as recommended for me since I read boatloads of mystery/crime/police procedural/thriller novel. This is a romance with police procedural elements. If that is not your thing, this is not the book for you.

If you're looking for romance and sexytimes, the story of Dylan Prescott, NYPD detective, and Briana long, US District Attorney will be a good read. The two meet (sort of) on the basketball court, as Briana watches two teams play from the stands with her friend and roommate Stef. They meet for real at a bar, later. There is, of course, the instant attraction. The fire starts to burn, they exchange some innuendo, and they part for the night after telling one another they were not looking for anything serious,.

Neither of them told the other what they do for a living, but they find out the next day at the office, where Dylan's team is tracking a drug operation, and Brianna is the USDA assigned to the case.

This flirting in the office and at the bars continues, and we get scenes from Dylan's side and Brianna's side until finally the two get together in bed. If you are not a fan of explicit sex scenes, this is not the book for you, unless you want to skim past those pages - if you do, you'll be skimming a number of pages here. If you don't know what packing is...well, you'll figure it out.

There isn't a ton of character development going on here, but to be fair, that isn't really why people read these sorts of books, and most lesrom revolves around jealousy anyhow - which is exactly what happens here, when Brianna leaves the Fed for a job with a well known defense attorney with whom Dylan has some history.

The book does have police work in it - probably enough to justify classifying it as a police procedural and having readers of the genre (like me) pick it up. That portion of the book is fine, and is actually one of the handful off books in the genre that show the more tedious side of police work. It isn't all car chases and busting down doors. Still, that part of the book is thin, story-wise, and the two main characters could have been in any profession, and the story wouldn't be harmed by it.

Overall, a solid three out of five stars.

I listened to the audiobook of this. I wasn’t too fussed on the narrator, the emphasis didn’t sit right for me, but once I sped it up to x1.2 speed I found it a lot more enjoyable as I could focus easier on the story.

This was an enjoyable read. I liked the crime element and the tongue in cheek reference to SVU. I enjoyed the dynamics of characters and the story overall, though I would have enjoyed more risk to the crime itself, but that’s probably just me.

3.5 stars

Dylan is a detective who just been assigned to a investigating drug ring after follow her instinct that may leave to a break in the case. Brianna is a attorney who has her work balance on point she doesn’t play.

When they meet they both aren’t looking for a relationship they are looking for right now but what happens when two people who don’t want commitment meet their match and realize they want more then they thought they could give.

This was a good read very easy to follow the dialogue was great the banter between them was good the sex scenes were fire. I can totally see this on Netflix as rom-com.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

I enjoyed this read. It cleverly sidestepped many common cop/lawyer-romance tropes. The angst (triggered by Dylan's strange personality change around the 3/4 mark) felt contrived, but was resolved nicely.

I would call Bulletproof an excellent example of a romantic-blend novel. The police procedural was excellent - I loved the undercover elements and the build-up to resolution. On the flip side, I found the romance to be top-notch as well. Briana & Dylan had amazing chemistry from the get-go, which built heavily as the novel progressed.

Additionally, I absolutely loved how I could not find one error, inconsistency or plot hole within the novel. I find in lesfic that one of those will typically occur and I find it frustrating when reading - it pulls me out of the story. With Bulletproof, it really felt seamless in transitions, dialogue and plot progression. I think there was a perfect amount of angst and I loved how Briana & Dylan communicated really maturely. If they had a disagreement, it wasn't left to brew for days but talked out to resolution. I find that this again is something that is lacking in lesfic.

I've read a few of Cummings' novels, but this is my favourite by far and after Bulletproof, I'm really looking forward to reading more of her police procedurals.

I enjoyed this romance with great tension. It's the first book I've read by Maggie Cummings, and I'm anxious to read more!

3.5/5

I thought the first half of this was so strong, and I really enjoyed the characters and the relationship that was being built. However, around the 60% mark I was beginning to get bored, which is so sad, especially since it's not like the book was predictable. In fact, most of the turns this book took were ones i wasn't expecting. I just think maybe the romance happened too soon, so then over half the book was after they got together and I enjoyed the will they won't they part a lot more than when they were together.

I thought the secondary plot of the drug case was super interesting though, and that is definitely one of the reasons I wanted to read this, so i'm glad that held up for me. I think this book could do with either a little more build up to the romance, or just a shortening of the final 40%, but i'd definitely be interested in reading more of this author, as I enjoyed a lot of different aspects of the book.

A couple of months back I read my first book of this author (Brooklyn Summer) and really liked it so when this one came along I defintely wanted to read it. The story about Dylan, a cop, and Briana, the district attorney assigned to the drugs case Dylan is working on, is again a sweet romance with characters you like and respect. The dialogue and interactions with eachother and others in the book feel realistic as does the romance that develops. For me that were her strong points in her previous book and she doesn't let me down, it's a relationship I could easily see unfold in real life with the bumps that come along with figuring out where you want to go with a relationship and the insecurities about whether both people have the same feelings.
The plot with the drugsdealers was an added bonus and made for a believable conflict situation later in the book. A well recommended read this one!

Well, that was unexpected! I thought this was going to be some crime oriented, less of a romance, thriller, but instead, I got a sweet, heart warming romance. It was a very pleasant surprise. I loved both Dylan and Brian a as characters, and I loved the whole relationship development. There were times where Dylan was almost too much in all that escorting home and being protective, but it's a minor thing and it's a personal taste, so it shouldn't impact the book rating.
