The epic Victorian comedy is back with more of the remarkable adventures of Pip Bin as he battles his evil ex-guardian Mr Gently Benevolent (Anthony Head) in six more chapters of tragedies and triumphs in the style of Charles Dickens after too much gin. Richard Johnson, Anthony Head, and Geoffrey Whitehead lead a magnificent cast including Tom Allen, James Bachman, Sarah Hadland, Susie Kane and Mark Evans – and guest starring Raquel Cassidy as Miss Sweetly Delightful, the nicest woman in the world, and Jane Asher as Mr Gently Benevolent’s evil mother.
Mark Evans is a Welsh comedian, actor, and writer.
He has written for many U.K. radio and television programmes, including That Mitchell and Webb Look (2006), The Late Edition (2006), That Mitchell and Webb Sound (2003, 2005), Popetown (2005), and Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway (2002-2003). The pilot of his BBC Radio 4 comedy series Bleak Expectations was recorded in 2006, and the full series, starring Anthony Head and Celia Imrie, was recorded in April 2007 and broadcast in August 2007. The second series was recorded in May 2008 and the third in June 2009. He has also appeared in That Mitchell and Webb Look, notably as David Mitchell's chiropractor; Saxondale (2006); and in several other television and radio programmes and commercials.
He has often written and performed with James Bachman. On 6 May 2008 they recorded the pilot of their BBC Radio 4 comedy Zoom, starring David Soul, Carla Mendonca and Jon Glover with a special guest appearance by Nicholas Parsons as himself.
He read Classics at Cambridge University, where he was president of Footlights.
One may never know how Mark Evans is able to masterfully excel himself with each new series. The absurdity so in hand that all disbelief is suspended for the entire duration of his tale. I dare say, one listens to it for both entertainment, and to witness the sheer capacity for outdoing his previous efforts. There will be little to say that could prepare a new listener, or mention swans, and digging to the crust of the Earth for its tasty filling that would make any sense whatsoever.
Brace for this series' midpoint with the whirlwind lose, gain, and lose....oh I think I lost count...as Pip Bin, Harry Biscuit, and their wives fall and rise in fortune. Even so far as dropping their h's for just any man that can pay! The penultimate chapter is my favorite of the entire series. We discover the history of Gently Benevolent, and Space.
