The “Hell on Earth” series is done. Sob sob.... This was such an awesome series. What made it special was Iain’s amazing ability to create colourful characters and ongoing plot lines. In this final book of the epic, he tied up the loose ends. I have read almost all of Iain’s books and I am familiar with his use of recurring characters. However, Scarlett was not a character that rang a bell and I was confused about her importance in this novel and the necessity of her survival. (I have to say that he bodyguard, Sorrow, was pretty cool though.) Lastly, I was hoping for a reappearance of Lucifer in this saga. Iain has given Lucifer such a cool vibe in his stories.
Iain Rob Wright not only knows how to create an addictive horror/apocalypse series, not only does he know how to populate it with fascinating characters but he also knows how to end a series on an absolute high note. This book has everything you could want from this author, and this series. There’s horror, battles, good v evil and even some laugh out loud humour too! I’ve enjoyed each and every book in the series and the final chapter was worth the wait. I’ll definitely not give away any spoilers but I’ll say to those new the series start at book 1 and enjoy! Highly recommended.
What a superb series this, right up there with the Deadlocked series by A. R. Wise. I just love the way IRW writes his characters, they are always people you can empathise with. The story continues on to its climax at a great pace and overall I have to say this is an excellent series that I will happily recommend people to read. Yay, IWR is just so easy to read I can't wait for the next offerings 😁😁
Wow, what an ending to the series this was. I just could not put it down. I was engrossed right up the the ending I definitely didn’t see coming. If you liked the others you’ll love love this. Another cracker from a master horror writer. What’s next I wonder. Highly recommended.
This is a thrilling ride to read! Wonderful well written characters that are believable. The plot and story line is fantastic. Full of suspense and action with wonderful world building that enhances the story. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next!. Highly recommend reading this.

The ‘gates’ started opening for me back in 2015 with the first book (‘The Gates (Hell on Earth, Book 1) to this spectacular 6 book series. I say 6 books, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention another book by Iain that played into the story-line and finale of this series (‘Wings of Sorrow’) also published in 2015 and would be well worth your time if you haven’t already taken it in. But interestingly enough, having read Iain’s complete catalogue I find throughout this series, snippets from many of his past books creeping in. This book in particular however was astonishing and brilliant and without comparison to other series I have read. No better end to a series have I ever read. Iain makes no mistakes that this is the end of these particular demons, angels, assorted miscreants, layabouts, officers, law enforcement and other similarly charming characters. The movie of this series, thanks to the masterful wordsmanship of Iain Rob Wright played in my head from start to finish. Edge of your seat action, twists and turns enough to give you literary whiplash and motion sickness. Interesting characters and a brilliant plot and continuing story-line give this book its bones, meat and magic. Sad to see the end of this series, but at the same time I am well pleased with how Iain brought it to its end. Not all demons are evil, and not all angels are good. We must listen, learn and decide for ourselves. “Mankind doesn’t have to survive, Diana. If it has any future at all, it needs to survive with the right people in charge.” Highly recommend this and quite frankly all of Iain Rob Wright’s books.

The end of the world as we know it. It is an apocalyptic story of heaven and hell. The series was great. All ends were tied up. I was sad when some of the main characters died because you rooted for them to live. There are 6 books. The first one hooked me. The second book was the first book from a different perspective. It was my least favorite. Too much information was repeated. The third book was quick. I was very invested in the story at this point, waiting to see where it would bring me. New characters and their stories are brought in through the entire series. Some of my favorite characters ended up worse for wear or dead. The 4th book brought some hope to the series, and it was a relief until the end. The 5th book started right where I was hoping that it would. At this point, you're on edge, waiting to see how things are going to end. I constantly changed my mind from chapter to chapter, asking myself, "Will they or won't they live?" As I started the 6th book, I realized that I wanted to talk about the book and ask questions. I also questioned myself in a wild way. Humanity was a big question. I've always said that it's the wonder... Anyway, a decent series about hell on earth and the end of the world.
This review is based on the entire book series and it was an amazing ride. Reading some of the early books it felt like i was reading the walking dead but with demons. It follows characters journeys while this invasion happens. The great thing was how these journey's eventually do crossover. The threat was great and real. Many heroic moments for the characters. Now time to talk about the final book. it was good. Had great action. Great descriptions. My problem is by this final book most of the interesting characters from previous books are gone. And the new ones didn't really hook me into liking them. The climax was satisfying. but again the characters didn't do it for me. It hit me reading the final book, that i don't like some of these characters. It did introduce a great new one in Smithy but the rest, yeah no. Just cuz i didn't like them doesn't mean its universal. I'm sure others liked them. Overall a great series. and glad i read it.
I had no idea when I first started reading The Gates that it was just part one of a six book series. Now, over two and a half weeks later, I finally finished the whole series. I loved all six books, even with all the blood and gore. I don’t believe in heaven or hell, don’t believe in the devil and I am doubtful about the existence of God. This series has not changed my mind but if I DID believe in any of that, this book gave an accurate description of all of it.
Fortunately, there is more to the book than that. It’s also how regular people would behave if forced to fight in a war. It’s about heroes. And villains. And idiot generals. And it’s about survival and standing up for one’s beliefs. Very strong, heady stuff. I look forward to reading more books by this author. But for my next book I think I will go for something lighter and less bloody!
Iain knocked it out of the park with this finale to his Hell on Earth series. The whole series was pretty decent with some high and low points. It wasn’t to sappy of an ‘everyone wins ending’, nor was it a the typical bleak and depressing ending like a lot of authors go with nowadays. One of the best things about the finale was that it didn’t feel rushed and it felt like an actual ending.
A lot of characters were here, and even some new ones. Sometimes I didn’t know if I just forgot them being introduced or what. He wrote another book called Song of Sorrow that I didn’t read, but realized two of the characters came from that book. I have no clue how, but they were there. Maybe it happened at the end of that book but I don’t know. I also couldn’t keep track of some of the Damiens and another person. I wish when an author writes a bunch of books they had somewhere I could look up names, either in the book or somewhere on the the net.
What a fun ride the Hell on Earth series was. This is my second Iain Rob Wright series and just like The Spread it held my attention from start to finish. The battle sequences, descriptions of Hell and its demons/fallen angels, and the characters I became so attached to were all incredibly written and had me staying up into the late hours to figure out what would happen next
My only qualm with this series is the inclusion of characters from past books (the Damien’s, Sorrow, Scarlett, etc.). As someone newer to Iain work, I haven’t had a chance to read the stories these characters come from and was slightly confused by their presence at first. I still don’t fully understand why Scarlett HAD to stay alive and why Sorrow, a very cool demon, was given that task but nonetheless, each character’s contribution to this story does make sense in the end.
is absolutely fantastic!! I could not stop reading until I was done with them all. 5 days of almost nonstop immersion. Now I can finally cook something rather than grabbing a bowl of cereal; clean my house; enjoy some time with my grandkids and pets, lol. As much as I’d like to say this could make a great movie I really hope it’s never done because they’d never get it right. I’m grateful it never got too religious. And I was surprised to find some aspects that are similar to my own musings and beliefs and possibilities. Well done, Mr. Wright!! I’ve enjoyed many of your stories before but I can definitely see revisiting this series after a while of some much needed silliness. Thank you for your mind.
Rebirth is the last book in this series and I am sad that the end has arrived. But, I am absolutely thrilled with the superb way Iain Rob Wright wove all of the strands into one skillfully creative blockbuster. I will miss many of the characters that has become my friends. I highly recommend the entire series, heck I highly recommend all of Mr. Wright’s work! His talent continues to grow with each new tale.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this ebook from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.
Although it was sad seeing this end, it was wonderful to finally receive closure for this series. Ian's writing style has always managed to call to me and pull me into worlds filled with unimaginable terror and horrors. There is nothing better than being excited to find out what happens next that you wake up at four a.m. just to find out what happens next. Ian is one of the few writers that can illicit that type of reaction from so many of us. One of his books is all it will take to draw you in. Let the Legion set be the first.
If you have read any of the books written by this author previous to this one, you will find a character from those books here. I even think there's items from his current grocery list in here too, the author does love to reuse his characters. That being said a lot of characters in this series have been sacrificed, this book is more the same from what was before people fighting people dying people fighting people back. Yet amongst all this there is hope. A lot of the characters really stick with you after a while in this series like good friends.
Once you start reading books by Ian Rob Wright you’ll be hooked! This is the final book in The Gates sequence, and from the first pages of the first book I knew I’d found an author whose style I’d love to follow. I’ve read many of his other books whilst waiting for this one. The end will leave you amazed that he could pull all those threads together. Read the whole series; you won’t regret it for a minute.
If you have not read the first 5 books in this series -stop now and go and read.them. If you have you don't need to read a review to know this book is worth the purchase. The story finally concludes with some characters you will.have been with from the start and a few new ones. I am sorry this series has come to an end but I suppose it had to finish sometime. I am off to find out when Iain's next book is due out
Have to say, I've thoroughly enjoyed the Apocalypse series of books. Great stories and characters culminating in this VERY "Grand Finale"
What can I say, if you've read the series this last one is, to say the , least...frenetic. I almost felt physically drained myself, the intensity of the battles and never ending Demons really make you feel like your right amongst it with Mass and the crew.
Crimolok is free! He is such an awful being. Mass set his best friend free and now the end is here. I loved Smithy, he was a great character. I couldn’t really connect with Damien and the others. Ted’s sacrifice made it possible for Mandy to finally avenge Amanda. In the end a few humans are left and the must work together for a better future without all the advantages that existed before.
Having systematically read this entire series one book after another, anyone who enjoys this genre will find the six books in the Hell on Earth series by Iain Rob Wright addictive. I was so engrossed that as I came to the end of one book I went straight into the next one, reading at times up to 5am in the morning...... I definitely recommend this series, AND this gifted Author and all his other works, you won't be disappointed!
What an amazing end to my favourite series of the horror genre. Terrifying, exciting and terrifying are just some words use to describe the book. Im sad to see it end but the ending was so good i can't complain about a single thing. I will miss being part of the hells gate world and the characters i grew to love.
This has become one of my favorite series. Wright finished off with an amazing book that wraps everything up nicely. I've heard people say they won't even give it a try, because of the whole "angels and demons" plot device, but if an atheist like me can enjoy it, so can you. It really is quite impressive.
Wow! What can be said? I've followed this series book after book and have enjoyed each volume as the whole story unfolded page by gripping page. Now with it's conclusion I feel like I've lost a group of good friends such was the affection I felt for some of the characters. If this is your genre you're really missing out if you haven't read the complete series.
Like a fine wine this author keeps getting better!
lain is an amazing author. Every one of his stories captures you and transports you into the horror! The characters are smart and always amusing and he even manages to tie many of his stores together. No spoilers! Just read him now.
Iain Rob Wright is one of my favorite horror authors I haven't disliked a single book of his. This series really is fantastic the characters are so real and well developed I felt like I knew them. I even cried when some of my favorites died. It is really well paced too. 5 stars for this whole series.
There's many characters I will miss; I'm not really ready to say goodbye. While we get closure for the most part, there are side stories I would love to see. Scarlet and Sorrow's backstory tops that list but I also would like to see how the Urban Vampires fair in this new world. I'd love to see them grow as a family.
Truly awesome I heard of books you can’t put down but had never experienced that until now, nearly brought me to tears at times. One of those books you can’t wait till the end to find out what happens but you don’t want to get to the end because you know it’s over, again awesome.
Great series of books with a sense of humour interspersed with gory action brilliant also Great to see character from local area where I'm from well done iain beginning to think iain is a secret baggie fan come on you baggies boing boing would have loved to see more of characters survive 😀 but guess you can't have everything when your in the apocalypse 😀
