Divine Artifice

Rate this book
Sixth year isn't going the way Draco imagined it would. His mission was complex, and he felt the weight of an executioner's ax hovering. But destiny had other plans for him when a mislabeled bottle of Amortentia changed everything. His story is one about personal redemption, his heart, and reclaiming his family's honor.

Hermione had to do rounds alone, again. Being a prefect was hard but rewarding work. Usually. But a chance encounter with Draco Malfoy and an unidentified potion that she just knew should be confiscated, made her look at him in a new unexpected light. Though an antidote was quickly given, the accident drew her into the complex world of Draco Malfoy, even though the war threatened to separate them.

One small encounter that changed the course of the entire war and the lives of two enemies.

Okay first of all the plot itself was quite interesting and it started out great. Though I felt it was a bit rushed. For instance the stuff in the first 100 pages could've been written in 300 pages and since fanfictions are mostly quite long it wouldn't have mattered. It would've made for more buildup material so when he suppresses her memories it would've hurt the reader way more.

Secondly, I must say I was expecting the plot to be predictable and to be some level it was but not a lot so that's good but also draco getting the hocruxes was way too easy like give my man a challenge. Dude just went ahead and did it like even tho I did like that part cuz I wasn't expecting it, a few more obstacles would've made it better.

And oh my god also their love story. I noticed that the author mostly kept to the personalities of the characters portrayed by Rowling herself and didn't change much ( though I would've appreciated Dumbledore bashing) but she didn't keep that same thing with the main leads. Because considering their original characters there should've been a lot more angst and a lot more toxicity from Draco's side which is what I was expecting naturally but was disappointed not to get. Because I thought well obviously he's gonna have a lot of inner conflicts making him toxic and I'm not saying Hermione should deal with his toxicity like a doormat. Her calling him out on his bullshit would've made it so much better like just imagine the angst ugh 😩 I really wanted that.

Though one appreciation I will call out is Theodore Nott. No version of his character disappoints 😭😭(or maybe I just love him too much whatever). Also even tho the plot could be more structured overall, I did infact enjoy the story because one amazing thing about it was that it was well written, and when a story is well written that can totally make up for a not well written plot but I'm afraid most of the time even if the plot is good but it's not well written I tend to lose interest, the quality of writing matters a lot in which this author did not disappoint so A+ for that.

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk yapping session.

I loved the beginning of the fic, could barely put it down. Then it got a little slow, not much happened with the exception of Draco and Snape being the big hero's. I thought this would be a super fast read if I went by the first half of the story. I was so into it. But once the war really started I missed Canon. Too much was changed and for me at least not for the better. But as far as lovey and steamy Dramione go this had some great scenes! I loved Draco and Hermione just didn't love the whole story line.

Dramione. 6th/7th AU. Secret relationship, secret marriage. Supportive lucissa. Theo/Pansy sidepairing. Some really unique magic. Draco looked at Dumbledore's portrait in horror.
My favorite:
"Come on, man! We need to know who won the bet," Phineas Nigellus Black said.

"Bet?"

"Did she forgive you or not?"

Dazed and not entirely sure he should say it out loud, he murmured, "she married me,"

Snape smacked himself in the forehead. Dumbledore clapped heartily and accepted the congratulations of the other portraits. All, except Phineas who crossed his arms and turned away."

i was pretty engaged in the beginning but towards the end i started skimming a ton. i felt that there was just a lot of unnecessary dialogue. sometimes the wording used made me cringe and was a turn off for me personally. the last two chapters also felt very rushed compared to the rest of the story
