This was a very good introduction to all the aspects of filmmaking. It reads like a textbook, but provides insight and useful exercises in order to practice the concepts. The appendix is also very helpful in its references to further reading. All in all, it is perfect for anyone new to filmmaking, particularly someone who is not yet decided on what job they wish to pursue within the film industry (the various departments are delved into in depth).

A slightly more British take than the old standards. Fun to compare to even the many French and German schools. Downside: once again, they use slightly different terms for classical terms, so it's kinda of annoying vocab lesson. Upside: it's not weighted down by all that you-are-a-nobody LA hopelessness.

Bare basics. Serves more as an introduction to other books. Speaking as a design student with a glancing interest in film, this barely provides enough information unless you're going into this on zero. What IS there is explained in very concise terms though.
