When Logan returns home after fifteen years to care for his mom, he knows the rules: Steer clear of his step-father. Be strong for his mom. Help his late brother’s widow get moved in. But when he meets his sister-in-law for the first time…he realizes there’s one rule he can’t follow:
Don’t fall in love with Maggie.
Maggie has been a widow for over a year, and she’s tired of everyone’s rules: Devote all of your energy to motherhood. Play the grieving widow. Don’t flirt with the handsome stranger you just met. But the handsome stranger has a way of making her feel young and alive. Too bad it turns out he’s not a stranger after all. Now she’s stuck with another rule:
Don’t fall in love with Logan.
The spark between them should be easy enough to put out. It was only a couple of minutes. A brief flirtation.
But that brief flirtation is beginning to feel like the world’s most addictive drug. Soon, Maggie and Logan realize they have to make a choice: They can follow the rules…or they can follow their hearts.
I was so excited to read this book. The blurb got me & I knew I was in for an emotional read. Maggie accidentally falls in love with her estranged brother-in-law of her late husband. I say accidentally because they've never met while her husband was alive and she only finds out he's her brother-in-law at their second meeting. Ugh, already there should be so much angst, which I was looking forward to BUT the story just fell short. I think the lack of character development was the problem in the book. We don't really know Maggie or Logan or even David. I really disliked Maggie! She was way too pushy with Logan. Logan could've been more likeable if we just knew what kind of guy he was. In the beginning he started off as this shy? type who had problems talking to women but I just don't know -the characters were confusing and unrelatable at best. This book had so much potential but it lacked emotion & with what went on in the book it just all fell short.
I really enjoyed Maggie and Logan's story. It is sweet, fun, and sexy. My heart hurts for Logan trying to deal with his mom dying and the pain of his childhood. He tries to keep Maggie at arms length, but she knows what she wants. Carter Ashby writes strong female characters you root for and gorgeous broken men you want to take home. I love all of her books and look forward to reading more.
Such a great twist to a romance novel! I didn't want it to end! I loved the added tension from the complicated dynamics within the family as a subplot too. Made me laugh and cry! Two thumbs up!
