Seven Devils #1

Seven Devils and a Rose

Rate this book
One girl. Magically transported to another realm. Seven hunky lords. A fantastical kingdom. What could go wrong?

My name is Alfie. A university student. I’m nothing special. Just your average nineteen years old girl doing her best at life. Then that happens.

The unexpected.
The impossible.
The magic.

When I first set foot on St. James Manor, a charming old house my parents bought and turned into a retreat for writers, I feel a sense of connection with the magical place. One night, while I bathe in the hot spring that is on the estate, I’m inadvertently transported to another realm.

Disorientated and afraid of my new, mysterious, and foreign surroundings, I’m found by two dark warrior lords, who mistake me for a boy because of my short hair and slender frame. They even suspect that I am a member of a loose, violent bandit that is raiding their kingdom and kidnapping the civilians.

Despite having a fun and adventurous soul, I find nothing exciting, as these two gorgeous warriors take me back to their camp and proceed to grill me about my background; especially when one, tsundere Caleb, couldn’t stop staring at me, while the other, gregarious Felix, treats me like his next love interest and pays me his undivided attention at every possible chance he gets. When a group of bandit peruses me and I am lost in the wild, dangerous woods, an alluring vision in white of a lord appears. His name is Geoffrey, and his enthralling charm fascinates me.

Of course, all that I want is to return home. But little do I know that finding a way home is the least of my worries because there are four more gorgeous men, as well as a whole new, fantastical kingdom out there, waiting for me.

Seven Devils and a Rose is a reverse harem fantasy realm travel (isekai) fairytale romance where paranormal creatures exist, magical power and technology go hand in hand, and love is a forever thing.

So I should probably start off by saying I read The prequel for this book (when it was still available) before this came out. I loved the prequel but I kept forgetting about this book and finally I read it, and honestly I’m kind of disappointed.

The one thing that drove me crazy about this book was the author kept changing POV. It would go from first person to third person and sometimes you could hear all the characters thoughts and sometimes it was limited to one. This drove me crazy as I couldn’t tell who was who sometimes. It made the book really messy.

The author also had a tendency to ramble. I had to keep skipping pages because the world building was too much. There was a lot of insignificant details added and you could’ve taken whole chapters out of this book and it still would’ve made sense.

Let’s not forget about the virgin FMC. I have nothing against being a virgin but I am not here to read about your inexperience, and she talked about it all the time.

Finally I think the whole playing a boy thing was stupid. I like the idea it just wasn’t executed well. It wasn’t explained right and I don’t really understand why she pretended to be a boy. I also don’t understand why she didn’t pretend better. She acted like a girl just in boy clothing but still no one figured it out?

All things considered I really liked the plot, the characters, and the idea behind the book. I may or may not read the second book.

I wish so much to give this a higher rating but I just can't. The world building and plot line are great. I like the characters and their growth. What I don't like is...the writing style. It makes it sooooo hard to connect and it's not smooth at all. So hard to fall into. This book has the potential to be amazing but the style of writing needs to be fixed.

I read the entire novel because I like giving things a fair shot, and I tried to like it, I really did but I hated it. The entire thing was EXTREMELY grating to read, it felt very jolty and the flow was very bad. The main character was so FLAT! She felt like a 2D rendition of a manga character, the plot line felt like it would have translated better to an anime rather than a novel. Because all the characters were flat and it read like the author was writing an anime. The visuals were extremely comic and jolty with un-necessary details that stopped the flow of the scene. I felt very flaky when it came to the other realm they were in. I couldn't picture it! There DEFINITELY wasn't enough detail on the realm and it's culture, it felt as if the author assumed we could see it all as she did (LIKE AN ANIME). I think the author should read more widely and greater quality works to improve her writing because currently, she reads like an anime scriptwriter, it's not pleasant.

Not interesting

Without further ado - this line was used several times in each chapter. I was ready to lose it. This book was a little over the top for. The mc was strange not a good rh character for me and I was bored senseless. Finally at chapter 8 I had to put it down. Which is unusual for me. I try to finish regardless because you never know but I could not torture myself any longer.

Loooooved it!

I loved the book, Alfie, the female lead was absolutely adorable! And the guys, phew! We're slowly getting to know them, and at a good pace. Each of them unique and just wow! The world building is amazingly done, there's a lot of potential with just how huge it is. For people that have read some Chinese fantasy web novels, they'll find some things similar, like qi and world travel and so on. I loved that! Especially since it's used with my favorite genres, romance with the added bonus of rh! I cannot wait for the next book to come out...I want to see her relationships with the other guys develop and what happens when we meet all the characters from the other regions

Alexia puts a clever spin on the retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with Alfie Yuki (Snow), the Seven Devil Lords and Prince Charming...or Prince Uncharming!?

I know that Alfie and the Seven Devils can make you believe in love and sex and magic. Everything ain't what it seems. The hot bath and a magical necklace transported Alfie to an enchanting world where there is more than meets the eye. Alfie is mistaken for a boy throughout most of this touching, heartwarming and epic story. I'm looking forward to what Alfie's conference trip and where her adventures will lead her.

I read it on Wattpad a while back and thought I had already left a review so I'm reviewing based on memories since the story is removed and I can't go back and check.

Great read

This was my first time reading this author. I truly enjoyed this book. The author takes you to another world with demons and fairy's and any other cearture you name it exist in this world. I do not know where to start so much going in this book threesome with insatiable demons, other kingdoms wanting the the girl because of what she is and her power. Must read. On to the next book.

This reverse harem fantasy book has a lot of good qualities - it is very creative, there are hardly any errors and the sentence structure is good. The fantasy realm created is large and detailed and the romance is very sweet, with some steam towards the end. It was nice to see a long book as well, as so many RH's now are of rather short length in terms of individual books. Unfortunately, though I generally like long and detailed books, this one just did not captivate me - there was a great deal of internal monologue vs. dialogue and for such a long book it just got to be too much. Sometimes I find virginal and naïve heroines charming and sometimes I don't, so I am on the fence about that aspect of Alfie right now. Also, though I am far from opposed to this kind of scene in general, and liked it on its own, the steamy stuff toward the end did seem out of character both for Alfie and almost out of place compared to the rest of the book too. The heroes are fine, with three getting a little more attention right now than the others, though they are all immediately enamored of Alfie. I liked the concept of everyone believing she is a boy, and that it is taken in stride that anyone can be attracted to her even so. I also like the little bits of jealousy peppered throughout; that is something I always enjoy reading in my romances. There will be a second book and this one forms a complete arc and does not end in a cliffhanger. Based on this one just being ok for me, I don't think I will be continuing with it, however I encourage everyone else to try a sample or download in KU to see if it catches their fancy.

I'm really torn on what to say here. I really really really wanted to like this book. It has an interesting concept with qi, the source of magic, existing with different colors representing different powers that are present with varying frequencies. Demon Lords with dark qi ruling a kingdom and attracted to a girl from another realm/world who has super rare pure/white qi? I'm so in. Demon Lords who lose their mind and go crazy when around pure qi? Even better.

So what happened?!?! Honestly, it's really hard to say. My MAJOR irritant was the over use, and frankly misuse, of the words hence and thus. It. Was. SO. Annoying. Examples: "First thing to do if you're lost in the woods is to stay calm. Panic was your worst enemy in this case. Hence, I took a few slow, deep breaths to calm myself down."; "This time, I was determined to clear my mind. Hence, I began to meditate."; "I felt the need to explain that it wasn't my fault, but that brute's. Thus, I cleared my throat and said..."; "I had gotten good with my sprinting, having been constantly chased, and I found that I was quite fast. Thus, I zigzagged over the rough terrain of the woods like a pro...". Yeah. So that happened. A lot. I almost threw my computer across the room at one point because I was so irritated.

There was also a huge lack of character development. I'm not exactly sure how they all fell in love, because it was just BAM, I've known you for a few weeks and am declaring my undying love for you. Add in some really spotty editing and POV inconsistencies...just no. I'm sorry, like I said I wanted to like this book, but it just didn't work.

What I like about this book is that the details on world building is so good, it feels like you are living inside this world. The FMC's character for me is refreshing and a welcome break from the ones I usually read. The 3 main heroes are well fleshed out though I would love a backstory of them with the rest of the 4 guys in the next book. The secondary characters are pretty intresting too especially Aria. The story of a girl accidentally getting transported to another realm/ the talk of qi as power source/ the FMC mistaken as a boy were giving me some anime vibes. I don't know why, maybe its the anime fan in me. It feels like Fushigi Yuugi plus Naruto to me. It started as slow burn but near the end was one steamy scene. Whew! I'm looking forward to read the next book.

I received an ARC and I'm choosing to leave an honest review.

Surprisingly original, and pretty cool

I really enjoyed this book, I did find myself skipping pages but the world building was a little much then I wanted to commit too. This story has a lot going on, so it kinda drags with so much, it's not till the end we get what we want if ya know what I mean. Lol. I Also want the author to know that if she dares write another book please on sweet baby Jesus stop using that " with further ado" you freaking used it like 10 times seriously! Anyways cool book, totally didn't see this book being anything like it was, very original and had me very invested. I will definitely be hoping for more.

Loved the length it felt like I actually read a book instead of a serial that was short. I'm looking forward to this series and I hope she mates with the rest of her demons Lord's akari's as well since Yuki felt some type of way for the demonlords . Honest I thought Yuki was the bad guy here because he husband is going beyond to get his wife who left him for other men back... I'm wondering about that backstory honest.

Good Start

I liked this more than I expected and I'm glad that I read it. I think the pacing works well and I kind of like that the harem is still developing. I'm wondering how things will play out with Phillip and Maximus. Maximums seems like he's probably a good guy, but how far will he go to get his beloved back? I already dislike Phillip, so I'm really worried about what he might do. I'm anticipating kidnapping in Alfie's near future. I'm looking forward to book two.

Captivating new series

This book was exciting from the beginning and all the way through. It seemed like it took forever for Alfie’s secrets to be revealed, but once they were the floodgates were opened! Up until that point, it was a little odd and uncomfortable the attention that Alfie was getting from the demon lords.
This is a fantastic alternate world and I have a feeling that the excitement is going to kick up a notch or two in the next book. Can’t wait!

Extremely disappointing. Got to 49% then couldn’t take any more. Started reading this and was loving it and all of a sudden it jumped from first person to third person. Which was really confusing. I’m not a fan of reading in third person but tried hard to carry on with it but just couldn’t. First book I’ve read in ages that I wouldn’t recommend.

I liked this story because the magic system was different from that of the other fantasy reverse harems out there; and the conflict and characters kept me wanting to know more. However, almost everything needed stronger development- the character arcs, the diction, relationships, the world, and the magic. The plot also needed better pacing.

Portal realm

I read the first book for free on KU. I was so impressed by the book that I bought 2nd and third book. Having so many characters the author must keep a who is who page to keep track. Very well written. I don't want to give anything away. I read the 2nd book in one day. Happy reading.

This book was something different from my usual reads as I normally prefer a more realistic setting but from the moment I picked this up I was hooked. The world was so original and fascinating that I just wanted to know more and more! If you enjoy reverse harem stories I would recommend this 100%

Alfie is such a cute character. She is strong and sweet. Her journey os amazing. The book is other worldly with modern twists.
It does confuse if you dont pay attention to parts as the book goes from 1st person to 3rd person a lot.

I loved the high fantasy feel of this reverse harem. The mistaken identity aspect was actually quite funny and I thought was well written. Really enjoyed it and can't wait to see what happens next

Hmm

Only naughty in the last little bit. Interesting take and characters. The realms, science and demons. It's a mess of it all. Curious to continue the tale.
