Crossroads of the Apocalypse

Rate this book
He’s got pirates behind him, sea monsters ahead of him and a boatload of passengers that refuse to get along.

It’s been a year since the events in Niagara Falls.vThings have generally gotten better in the wasteland and civilization is starting to take hold along the rivers.

No one knows where the Librarian is, or if he’s alive, but there’s a man and a mastiff running passengers from Hannibal to Cairo that might have an idea as to what really happened.

Life is starting to return to normal along the river if you don’t count the pirates and the sea monsters. But all of that is about to change and the end of the world may never be the same again.

The Duck & Cover Adventures continue in Book 5, Crossroads of the Apocalypse.

It’s still the end of the world as you’ve never known it.

Just keeps getting better

Benjamin Wallace did it again. I couldn't put it down and now I can't wait for the next Duck and Cover.

This has been my favorite in the series, aside from the first book. The humor is fully present and the action is well done. These 2 ingredients are a recipe for success. I'm ready for the next one.

Comedy plus post apocalyptic shenanigans? Yes please!! Definitely one of my favorite series. I sure hope there's more to come! I'll have to try Junkers next.

I loved Mike . . . er, I mean Jerry as a riverboat captain. In fact, I enjoyed the whole river setting. And OMG, a talking beagle!! What's not to love!

Wow, another amazing book in Post Apocalyptic Nomadic Warrior series.

I was worried after the last book that the author had run out of steam, for this series, and that was why it took so long for this book to come out. NOPE! This book is just as good as the others, better than some of them too.

Back are the complex characters, dynamic relationships and funny moments. This book still doesn't capture the essence of the strange world that the first book does, but interesting none the less.

A whole new cast joins the Librarian, and they all are great. Not in terms of likeable, some are very not likeable, but they all feel like the belong in the Apocalypse and provide conflict and comedy.

Unlike Knights of the Apocalypse, this book did not feel formulaic or predictable. This was a well thought out and complex plot, and while somethings were foreshadowed, nothing was given away before hand.

My only real issue with the book is the lack of imagination in the world. The early books had so much weirdness in the world and as the series progresses, it's all but lost. Gone is the radioactive rain and meat eating plants of the first book, in are another group of asshole people. Without the bizzare world, this is just another post apocalyptic book, still better than all the others I've read though.

Phil Thron is amazing, as always. He brings his A game and knocks it out of the park, again. There's not much to say about his performance that I haven't said in other reviews. His shining moment this book was the Fidget. Benjamin Wallace writes a perfect dog, and Phil delivers it exactly how it deserves.

All in all an excellent book with great characters and the best voice acting. The series needs, I think, to get back to the weird world it created, but other than that, amazing. I can't wait till the next!

Absolutely loved it. I thought I might be a little lost since I read book 4 well over a year ago, but there's something of a recap in the beginning that fits into the story very well.

This series has one of my favorite characters; Jerry, aka the Librarian. A true hero who does what's right just because it's what's right. He has no super powers, just a whole lot of book smarts and a desire to help.

Good Night Nurse!

I have really enjoyed this series of stories, and I hate to see the end(?). Jerry is such a great character, developing more with each book, and if he comes back to deal with the tease of Tommy Caine, the faux Librarian, then I'm sure that story will be just as fun and entertaining! At any rate, I highly recommend this Duck and Cover series to anyone looking for entertainment for entertainment 's sake! It's a great ride!

Duck and cover Adventure book.

Brilliant, well waited for. Apocalyptic turn of events. Marauders, pirates, talking dogs. And the Librarian. The world turns to the rivers, for survival. As with all the Duck and Cover books, hilariously funny how survivors of the apocalypse live in the new world.

Terrific follow-up to the climactic events at Niagara Falls the previous year. Some wonderful action set on America's river network. We forget that rivers were the highways of bygone days. :Post-apocalypse they come back into their own, and the US has some impressive ones. A very funny and satisfying novel.

Always a fun read... I wasn't sure where the story was heading throughout much of the book, it felt a bit meandering (yet in a funny, enjoyable way), but the ending was fun and i really like the new direction the story is now taking. Looking forward to the next book.

After his death at Niagara Falls, the Librarian moved through Canada and into the central US at Hannibal Missouri. Under a new name he just wants to be left alone. But when trouble brews his days of rest come to an end.

I have read the first four books of this series in order and loved them so much that I rated them all five stars. This one, however, had some pretty serious flaws, mainly with editing.

The book has rare homophone and punctuation errors, but there are many errors in sentence structure that seem to be where one sentence was partially overlaid by another, giving the impression that some editing was started but not finished. Here are three examples:

• You can’t be the he’s dead.
• “They wanted “ talking was tiring at this point. “They wanted my endorsement basically.”
• “I have done things that I have put things in my mouth that I’m not proud of.”

Like the previous four books, this one is full of action, suspense, and unexpected plot twists. However, in this case, the plot seems to collapse under its own weight. If you don't want me to spoil it for you, don't read the following.

So while the story was engaging and entertaining, the book has the vibe of an afterthought and of having been rushed to publication, unlike the others.

For a finisher I really found this book the weakest of the series.... the main characters were quite annoying and I found the humour really forced..it had the potential to really steer the story but fizzled out like a cheap firework at the end.. The librarian has finally returned his books...

I was excited to see the release of this book pop up in an email I received from Amazon - so I immediately got it for my Kindle and started it as soon as I finished the book I was currently reading. I love this series - and this book in particular is one of the best so far. It's got pretty much everything I've loved about the previous books - the world building, the post-apocalyptic setting that doesn't seem all that far fetched, the actually-make-you-smile or LOL humor sprinkled throughout, and just the right mix of action to story. What was really great about this book was the revelation toward the end that, along with being really interesting, completely opened the series up and set the stage for (I'm hoping) a number of additional books. I wasn't sure how much longer Wallace would be able to milk the wandering do-gooder in a post-apocalyptic wasteland thing - to his credit though, he found a way that didn't seem fake, flawed, or forced in the least. Can't wait for the series to continue!

Thrills. Comic action. Hard to put down. When last we saw him, the Librarian was going to his death over Niagara Falls after defeating Invictus. The world is searching for any sign of him, but none was found. Since that time, civilization has been slowly returning to the devastated world; to such an extent that movies have returned, one of the main characters being the Librarian. However, the world still needs a Post-Apocalypse Nomadic Warrier to do some clean-up, and one appears in the form of a female warrior and her two dogs, one of which talks. This warrior takes a job and is soon boating down the Mississippi with a group of travelers. Captain Mike knows the river and has contacts in every town along the way enabling the trip to occur, but there are pirates and river monsters along the way and there are rumors of a new threat from a horde called the Penance. This all leads to thrilling adventures and a host of conspiracies. The story is a worthy follow-up to the previous adventures.

OK. So I have to say I'm a huge fan of this series and I thought after the last one the Librarian would be just a memory. I was wrong and when I saw #5 as available, I have to say I peed a little :).

So as the cover says this is events a year after Niagara Falls (if you've read the others you'll understand) and Mike and Blue are happily ferrying people up and down the Mississippi. The world is starting to redevelop and everything is going good all except for this weird cult like group that is starting to make noise.

Luckily Mike and Blue (the Librarian and Chewy) are on the case.

Great start to a new story arc and a must read!

I. NEED. MORE.

Thank you Banjamin Wallace for yet another amazing entry in the post-apocalyptic saga of The Librarian!

Jerry is undoubtedly one of the most badass Post-apocalyptic Nomadic Warriors this world will ever know.

I cannot wait to follow him into his next adventure. Between all the insane action and witty one-liners... what's not to love?

If you're not following Jerry the Librarian.... there's something wrong with your head. Or you and I just have different tastes... In either case, you're missing out!

Humorous and action packed

Another great novel by Ben Wallace.
The librarian returns in the latest novel and finds trouble and love even in retirement.
There are new bad guys and a bigger threat to the world as it starts to get its feet under it, not to mention a new love interest.
If you like humor and action, you will enjoy all of Benjamin Wallace's work.

Grin a Minute Adventure

I love these books not only do we have action but we have a realistic and wishful future where dogs talk and just about anything happens, resulting in many a grin and chuckle from the reader. Old characters and new join together for a well written story.

Excellent!!!

I forget how good these books are. I had to go back and read some of the earlier books beacause they are all just that good. I love how the author blends witty banter and action together. Am looking forward to the next book.
