Best friends and long-term roommates, Mel and Layla would do anything for each other and they always have the other’s best interests at heart. Most of the time, they love each other for it, but when Layla reminds Mel that it’s been over two years since she’s had her heart broken, the not so subtle nudges to start dating again are a strain on her nerves.
However, while seething from disappointing news at work, a chance encounter with a woman, whose charm all but puts a spell on Mel, awakens nearly forgotten sensations and emotions. The chemistry between Mel and Katie is palpable. It’s electrifying. And those walls Mel built to protect herself begin to crumble as she forsakes her stubbornness for a chance to truly heal and move on.
But when they learn that their lives are more interconnected than they knew, they have to decide if it’s worth the risks to continue dating, or if they have to learn how to see each other as just a weekend of bliss and nothing more.
Amy DeMeritt is an author of Sapphic romance and an occasional poet. She is a lover of the arts, coffee and tea, a day of sitting on the beach watching the waves crashing against the shore, and good books and music to get lost in. (A good thunderstorm is one of her favorite forms of music.)
Amy takes inspiration from every experience in life and gives her imagination full reign to take a small detail and expand it into an intricate tale. Weaving experience, interests, and even pushing the boundaries of personal comfort, Amy’s stories take a reader on a journey of varying emotions and the joys and trials of love, romance, and growing as an individual, all of which are embodied in an entertaining plot with complex characters.
I am a fan of Amy DeMeritt’s writing. This book did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. Mel and Katie and Layla and Blake. The coupling of Mel and Katie was exciting especially when they first got together. The chemistry and sexual attraction was so hot and comfortable which helped with realizing they were really into each other. Layla and Blake’s coupling was just as cute. I definitely love the banter between Blake and Mel. This was just a cute love story with some circumstances that they faced head on instead of fear dictating their lives anymore. I would have loved to see a continuation for these couples. The only objective was that I am not a Harry Potter fan and found that part to be a little more descriptive than I needed however I loved the friendship and easiness of the evening together. Good Job!
Amy DeMeritt creates beautiful characters. The connection of love is prominent in her work. Most of the books I've read by her, are low angst and don't follow the relationship formula. She creates more than just the MC relationship in this book by showing all sides of 1 MC from her roommate to her love interest to her roommates love interest. This book always makes my heart happy. It is one I will continue to re-read.
This boss-employee, age-gap romance has a relatively small degree of angst and the tricky workplace component was handled in a mature manner. Unfortunately there are a number of places where the story reads more like a log of activities than a chronicle of two women developing a deeper relationship.
In addition, the budding romance between the main characters seemed less important than the deep platonic friendship between Mel and Layla. Their commitment to each other was more meaningful than their respective relationships with Katie and Blake.
As a side note, there is a fun dive into the world of Harry Potter fandom complete with a two day movie marathon.
This story was interesting and an enjoyable read while the lovable characters were well developed and quite unique individuals. All the characters were given important elements in the story, not just the two main characters. I love that. The MCs were given "real" people complete with flaws and blessings of their own that really added to the story. The other thing I liked was the quick resolutions of the angst that would arise. It wasn't dragged out through the whole story, whew. I highly recommend this sexy romance.
It's a romance novel it doesn't have to be realistic its just supposed to be a fun read and let you imagine what your life could be like... No aliens, vampires or paranormal creatures just a few neurotic lesbians, the plots unlikely but a fun read,.
Nothing beats an Amy DeMeritt book! The characters are rich and colorful, the situations are real life, and the storytelling is smooth and flowing. Compared to some of her other books, this one was rather tame, but engaging nonetheless. Put this book on your must read list!
I really enjoyed this book. Especially Mel's favorite platonic human, Layla. She's a hoot! It was really nice to read about women who care so deeply for each other. Our world needs more of that.
Imagine —a story about a romantic relationship that doesn't include the catastrophe of the dramatic break up til the sadness & loneliness full of regrets drives them to fight for their happy ending…d it's still good!!!
Amy DeMeritt has done it again! Another great story full of love and funny moments. I could barely put the book down and it had me smiling like a goof ball. Definitely recommend reading this story.
Loving whomever you choose is not an hardship you have to endure. A great story about love and friendship and how to work out the kinks of who is whom.
