So Far, So Good #2

This is So Happening

Rate this book
A torturously tempting love story.

Jessica ‘Jessie’ Allen is sugary sweet and perpetually perky. Running on an endless supply of enthusiasm, she’s in constant motion. The people pleaser is running herself ragged to make other people happy—anything to avoid having to figure out what would make her happy.

Devin Bennett is her complete opposite, the immovable object to Jessie’s unstoppable force. The tall, tattooed and brooding mechanic hates change and the perky blonde co-ed shoving it down his throat. Jessie is drawn to him like a valley girl to an outlet mall, but Devin dodges her advances better than a UFC fighter. The longer she’s around, the harder it is to keep his hands off her perfect body and his lips away from her sassy mouth.

For the first time in her life, Jessie knows what she wants. Devin Bennett. And she’s not above torturing him with temptation to make it happen.

This book is FUN! Thanks to Jessie. She is one of the kind heroine. Her tenacity and her humor to get Devlin is hilarious. Not to mention their banter. Miss Kingston done a wonderful job bringing the chemistry alive.

Devlin balances Jessie. I just do not like the twist for Devlin at the end of the book. That was not cool and Miss Kingston pushing it to make the plot works.

Overall a wonderful book.

This was another brilliant romantic comedy from Amelia Kingston! For those of us who love a good “grumpy one falls for the sunshine one” story.... this book will make all of your dreams come true. Jess and Devin are like oil and water, but it is just a perfect enemies to lovers/opposites attract story. I couldn’t get enough!
PACKED with sexy steam that AK pulls off so brilliantly, this is a laugh out loud, toe curling, tear-jerking, stay up all night to finish it kind of book.
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the only downside is now I have to wait for book 3!!!! ❤️

Review by Jen Skewes

This is the second book in this series and I absolutely adored it. We met Jessie and Devin in book one and I couldn’t wait to read their story. They are complete opposites, sorority girl meets brooding, tattooed bad boy. It was the perfect combination. And I think in some ways they were alike.

Jessie and Devin meet at a party and there is an unexpected attraction on both ends. But Devin is in no way looking for a relationship, especially with a college girl and one just like Jessie. He has been burned before in the past and he is not going down that road again.

Jessie on the other hand is not taking no for an answer. She works her way into his body shop and will not give up until he gives in. She challenges him to three dates, and after the last date if he still doesn’t want anything with her then she will move on. Devin accepts that challenge knowing that nothing will ever happen between them. But is Devin being completely honest with himself? He sees how beautiful she is but they are so different. But when he is near her, no matter how much she frustrates him, he can’t seem to keep his hands to himself and his eyes off of her. Maybe what he wants is really right in front of him, he just can’t admit it to himself.

I really enjoyed this book and loved Jessie and Devin. I admit that she was a little pushy in the beginning, almost in a desperate way, but at the same time it was just relentless flirting and once her challenge was met, she seemed to slow down a bit. Devin is the grumpy, bad boy that you just cannot help falling in love with. For him, it was his job and taking care of his sister that was his priority, not some sorority girl. But he could not stop thinking about her, and no matter how hard he tried to push her away, she was not going anywhere. She knew what she wanted and she would make sure she got it. I loved her spirit and her positive attitude. She knew that Devin had very thick walls up but had a way of breaking them down.

I think there were many layers to this book which I loved. I loved seeing the layers of bother characters being peeled back. I think from beginning to end, both of these characters grew together and that is what made me love them. They were so opposite but yet alike as well. And they were just perfect together.

Dnf at 30%, There is something seriously wrong with this book. The main heroine is an obsessed blondie who is harassing a guy of her interest. To summarise where my annoyance is coming from :
- After kissing a stranger on a party the girl is already telling her family about him as it was her boyfriend to be
- She is asking around for his number and after hearing that his friend refuses to give it to her (because the guy doesn’t want to have anything to do with her) she decides to take a job at his workplace to harass him further
-She accidentally meets the guy’s sister and introduces herself as mentioned “girlfriend to be”

If this is not crazy than I don’t know what it is

Barbie and the bad boy make for an unexpected but excellent pairing in this New Adult romance. Anyone who read the first book in this series (absolutely not required reading but it was FANTASTIC, so I suggest that you do so) will remember both Jessie and Devin. If not for one chance encounter, they likely would never have connected, but that first meeting made quite the impression. This one's a slow burn romance that stays light but has an underlying depth that will sneak up on you. It's fast-paced and playful, easy to devour in one sitting, and will leave you wanting more.

The story follows Jessie, a sorority girl in her final year of college. She's blonde and beautiful so she's never had to work to get a guy - nor has she really wanted to. That all changes when she meets Devin, a growly, grump of a guy. A mechanic who has been burned by one too many college girls looking to rebel with the bad boy only to leave him behind, Devin resists Jessie's attempts to flirt. That just makes her want him more, and what starts as a challenge soon becomes something much deeper.

I was introduced to Kingston's writing with So, That Got Weird, and it was such a memorable, moving read (with a whole lot of steam), that I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. It didn't disappoint, with a romance that feels playful but has so many great tender moments. Devin may be an intimidating guy, but he's hiding a definite marshmallow heart inside, and I loved seeing his vulnerability. Kingston again does an outstanding job showcasing a growth in intimacy, and though I think this could've benefited from a slightly longer length, it has the same great emotional build as her last book. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what this author writes next, because she's got a real talent for making familiar tropes feel rich and multifaceted. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review of this slow burn romance.

4.5 stars really!

While I adored Elizabeth and Austin’s story in So, That Got Weird, it took me just a bit to get into Jessie and Devin’s story. That surprised me a bit, because I really did like Jessie from meeting her in the first book. I totally understood Jessie in her keeping busy, having trouble saying no to people personality. But her outgoing and going after the guy she wanted definitely was not me. I think that’s why I had the issue at the beginning. I just know I personally would have given up with Devin’s total rejection over and over. But it’s really good that Jessie didn’t, because the two of them were perfect together.

Once they’d kind of gotten into a rhythm, I really started enjoying the story a lot more. The physical connection was definitely there from the start, even as Devin tried to deny it. I think just his actions at the beginning when we were in the chapters from Jessie’s point of view are what made it hard for me to understand how she didn’t give up.

While Devin’s parents definitely were ones that made his life really hard, Jessie had a great family. But, I do get her feelings of making sure what she did lived up to their wishes. That is something I have struggled with, when really I should, like Jessie ended up doing, go with what I know is what I want and really would be great at.

I don’t know if we’ll get any more books in this series, and who they might be about, but I do enjoy this author’s writing and hope to read more in the future!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I felt like the beginning was a bit rushed, but once the story developed, the pacing felt better.

While I liked Devin and Jessie and their connection, what really drew me in was the relationships with friends and family. I particularly liked the feeling of sisterhood present throughout the book. I almost felt like Devin and Jessie's romance was overshadowed by the familial love, and to me that doesn't matter - it made it that much more enjoyable, but it does kind of draw away from the two main characters' connection and their development.

Overall though, I really enjoyed reading Devin and Jessie's story and seeing their relationship develop and blossom. I would definitely recommend for an enjoyable summer read and I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

I enjoyed this great opposites attract story. Jesse was so positive, confident and downright relentless once she set her sights on the quiet, brooding bad boy who tried to resist her. I loved Devin! Underneath the gruff exterior he had a soft heart and was only trying to protect himself from the cheerful hurricane that was Jesse but his heart never really stood a chance. They were great together and I loved seeing Austin and Elizabeth again as well.

This one was a rough one for me, and totally falls under the whole “It’s not you, it’s me” shelf because try as I might, I just couldn’t totally get into Jessie and Devin and I needed more from their relationship. I need more depth, I needed to see them truly connect outside of the physical. I needed them to truly rip each other's walls totally down, have a come to Jesus moment and get the HEA they both deserved, because they both truly did deserve it. But it just felt like I got a lot of other people ~ their friends and family ~ telling them who the other was but them not doing it themselves and when anything person did come up it was just surface. This combined with the fact that I had a hard time with Jessie made it for a bit of a frustrating read.

Thankfully the supporting cast of characters did balance things out a bit. Hanging out with Elizabeth and Austin was fun and both Jessie’s and Devin’s family were amazing.

I don’t know. I was all kinds of excited to dive back into this world since I thoroughly enjoyed So That Got Weird, and this baby had some great moments, but I just needed...more. But I do intend to keep an eye out for the next book in the series to see just who will get their HEA next.

4 “Barbie and the bad boy” stars

A fun, sweet and sexy opposites attract romance that is so entertaining, I loved this one!

This book is the second standalone in the So Far, So Good series. The first book, So, That Got Weird, was one of my favourite reads for 2019, and I’ve been so excited to read more! Devin and Jessie were both introduced in the first book – Devin is the best friend of Austin, and Jessie is the sorority “Barbie” they met at a party – but you can absolutely read this book as a standalone.

Jessie is a college senior who is sweet, friendly, confident and endlessly perky. She’s all about pitching in to help others and rarely sits still, and it’s exhausting, leaving her with little time for a personal life of her own, or time to figure out where her life is actually going.

Devin is everything that Jessie isn’t. Sullen, broody and anti-social, he works as a mechanic with no dreams of a life beyond the one he’s actually living. He has a close friend in Austin, a father figure that he works with and a younger sister that he loves fiercely, but that’s pretty much it.

Jessie and Devin meet at a party, and Jessie is instantly smitten. She decides that she wants Devin, and she pulls out all the stops to make it happen. Devin initially wants nothing to do with the perky blonde, but even he can’t fight against her permanent enthusiasm as she sets about infiltrating every part of his life in her quest to win him over.

After four years of horny jocks and handsy frat boys, detached Devin is an irresistible temptation. Being told I can’t have something makes me need it. I love a challenge and Devin’s aloofness is the ultimate aphrodisiac.

It’s a really fun setup. I’m not sure if I’ve ever read a heroine quite like Jessie before - her enthusiasm is exhausting, but endlessly entertaining to read about, and her confidence in chasing Devin is so freaking funny.

The girl looks between Devin and me. Devin’s ignoring her. I’m grinning like an idiot. She takes a couple of tentative steps forward. “And you are?”
“Jessica Allen.” Feeling the tension rolling off Devin beside me, I can’t help but add, “Devin’s future girlfriend. And you are?”
Devin’s eyes snap to me and, without looking, I feel them searing the side of my face.
The girl looks back at Devin and cracks up. She closes the distance to the counter. “Rebecca Bennett. Devin’s sister.”
I shake her hand and we both send teasing glances over to Devin. He groans and the sound makes me want to push him further. I slide around the counter and wrap Rebecca in a hug. She goes with it, loving the irritation splashed across her brother’s face as much as me.
“Sister!” I exclaim. “I’ve always wanted a little sister.”

The story is written in dual POV, which I loved, because Devin is such a closed-off character, so we need to get inside of his head to see where he is truly at, and it brings some balance to Jessie’s perpetual perkiness as we see him struggling to come to terms with his feelings.

She’s right about one thing. There is something here. I feel the draw, too. She’s temptation incarnate. And no way in hell am I giving in to her. I don’t know much about her, but I can tell she’s not the type a guy walks away from. She’s the type that’ll ruin me.

Despite their differences, the chemistry is definitely there, and the romance builds beautifully. It’s fun, flirty and sexy, and the chase is worth it when we finally see them come together.

Devin and I are alone in the entryway. He slaps his hand over mine to still my fiddling with his shirt. I drop my head to his chest and let out a deep exhale.
“You’re killin’ me, Big Man,” I mumble to his chest pocket.
“Right back at you, JB.” I can’t tell if he’s amused or annoyed. Maybe both.

There are some ups and downs and a bit of drama as they navigate all that they are feeling and what they want from their relationship, but it’s an enjoyable ride with a nice amount of emotion, and an epilogue which finishes off their story beautifully.

“I’m completely fucking shattered by how much I love you.”

Austin and Elizabeth from the first book in the series make a number of appearances, and I loved seeing them. We are also introduced to Jessie and Devin’s families, and they are freaking hilarious, bringing a lot of laughs and emotion to the story. I’m hoping that we get to see more of them in future books of this series.

Loved this one! 4 stars.

This sweet and sexy romance seems light-hearted at first, but there is actually a lot of depth to the story. Jessie is a sweet and happy "yes" girl that is always overwhelmed because of having way too much on her plate. Devin is a quiet, grumpy, and cynical mechanic that is often overwhelmed with running to the auto shop and worrying about his younger sister. When the unlikely pair meet, there are instant sparks between them, but Devin has no interest in anything further because they are so different. But Jessie keeps pushing and persisting trying to get him to give in.

I really loved Jessie's character, although at first, I thought her pushiness with Devin was a bit over the top. As far as Devin goes, I don't care how grumpy and stubborn that man was, he was just yummy! By the end of the book, he had completely stolen my heart.

Even with my major love for the characters, I was initially thinking this was maybe a 3-3.5 star read for me, simply because the plot isn't unique and I feel like it's a story I've read 100 times. But then I was thinking of all the layers that are peeled back regarding the characterization, so I am bumping this up to a 4 star read. The author did a great job showing the growth and change in both Jessie and Devin as they realized it's o.k. to step outside their comfort zones.

I like to try new authors, because you never know if you'll stumble upon something nice. And today was a day for stumbling: Amelia writes in a very funny, easy way, which sucks you into the story right away. We follow Jessie, a happy-go-lucky-going-ten-miles-a-day, who is working her way through school, clubs, sports, coaching, working and studying. Cheery, bouncing through life and calling and texting with the whole wide world.
And we have Devin, tattooed mechanic, brooding and grunting through life. His most loyal friend is Austin (I really want to read his story as well in So, That Got Weird) and furthermore he lives his life very solitairy.
When Jessie meets Devin, she decides she is going to make it her new mission to have Devin smile. And whilst doing so, she finds out that she can't stop thinking about the guy. So, she decides he will be her boyfriend. But that is not on Devin's agenda, because he doesn't need a girl in his life. Especially not since his mother walked out on him as a tottler and since his father went to jail. He wants to focus on his little sister Becks and on his work. But Jessie isn't above cheating and begging, to get what she wants. So, watch out Devin, because it is so happening... Fun, laughter and a great read. Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have never read anything from this author, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. This book was refreshing for me. I am honestly tired of reading books about characters who are in MC’s, Seals, etc...I have long been craving a good romance story between every day people and this totally fit the bill. Now, just because the hero is not a tough guy in an MC or something, does not mean the story is not compelling. Jessie, the heroine in this story, has so much personality, I love it. She is confident, fun, and a bundle of energy. Her enthusiasm can be felt as you read the story. The hero Devin is a strong, quiet type and it was hard not to root for the two to finally get together. What I also loved was the great descriptives the author used that really sucks you into the story. The first time the couple got together, it was described as starting “slow, like a pot beginning to boil, the bubbles rolling over every inch of my body....”. Overall, this was a well-written, humorous and sexy story. I can’t wait to go and read more from this author.

I've been reading quite a few darker books lately, but sometimes, what you really need is something a bit more light-hearted. This is So Happening ticked all the boxes on that front.
Jessie always has too much on her plate, she can't say no to anyone and always has a lot of things on the go. When she meets Devin (which seems to be pronounced like the county, although it's spelt differently) she can't resist trying to win him over and becoming his girlfriend. Devin doesn't want a relationship, particularly with sunny Jessie, he has a lot of baggage from his parents and his upbringing and he's reluctant to get involved with a woman whose interest is likely to be only fleeting.
I loved the contrast of gruff Devin and lighthearted Jessie. It was clear that despite their differences, they were actually a really good match. I also quite liked the way that she did all the chasing. I don't usually like to see such a miss-match, but it was fun seeing her try to win him over, while he tried to push her away.
As romances go, this is more to the light-hearted, romantic comedy end of things, which isn't always my kind of thing, but I actually really enjoyed it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Am I disappointed? Yes! And not only that, I'm also sad because i LOVED "So, That Got Weird" very much. Austin and Elizabeth have my whole heart. Their appareances made me go crazy everytime (THEY'RE ARE SO IN LOVE AND HAPPY YASSS) So if I really think about it, Jessie and Devin relationship never have such reaction from me.
At the beginning I was really in, ready to enjoy this, but when we hit 70% I was ready to finish the book. Such an opposite feelings :(
Their connection was so... weak. Lust and sex driven them a lot, and that's not bad, it's just that emotionally speaking you only feel a rush of adrenaline. Once is gone, there isn't a lot of substance.
Other than that, this is a quick read for sure. Amelia Kingston knows how to engage readers, the pace of the story is good. Sometimes it feels TOO fast, tho. Maybe I noticed more in this particular story.
I'm not saying this is a bad book at all, but it was only OK for me.
Maybe it has to do with me being and AustinxElizabeth supremacist! :')

I absolutely loved this story and will definitely read it again!

Jessie was such a loveable character with her confident, bright and bubbly personality and the way she always helped anyone who needed it.
Her determination to get Devin to date her was seriously funny, I literally laughed out loud at some of the things she said, thought and did.

Devin was the total opposite of Jessie but a perfect match for her.
Quite and reserved, serious and staunch, a total Alpha!
With so much past pain and loss, he’s hesitant to love again and continues to resist Jessie so neither of them get hurt but she doesn’t give up easily.

Their attraction was instant and intense.
And the more time they spent together, the deeper their feelings grew.
The push and pull of sexual tension is so well written.
A fun, sexy and exciting read from beginning to end.

There were quite a few secondary characters who stood out in this story too, so I cannot wait to see who’s story is next!

This was a roller coaster ride of epic proportions and I loved being sucked in to every twist and turn as you dashed forward through this amazing adventure with Devin and Jessie. The magnetism between these two Devin has his guard up due to his past and Jessie has to work hard to breach his walls, but the buildup of these two coming together is magnificent. I love their first three dates and how even though Devin was fighting the pull, he was always putting Jessie first and the magnetism between these two is electrifying. I loved Jessie’s spirit and her energy was contagious throughout the story. I could not put this down and read through in one sitting. The cars weren’t the only thing getting oiled up and rubbed down, oh those scenes were sizzling. The ending was beautiful and I was smiling from ear to ear as their ending was just so perfect. I can’t wait for my next read by Amelia.

This is So Happening is SO SO GOOD!!! This is the second book I have read by Amelia Kingston, the first book was Book 1 in the So Far, So Good series and I feel confident in saying she is a writer that I am going to keep reading. Her heroines are quirky and relatable. They have big personalities and are the kind of women you really want to go to happy hour or karaoke with. Jessie is a sorority girl with too many extra curricular activities who thinks that saying "No" is a bad word, so she agrees to participate in everything she is asked to do. Devin is essentially a townie, who runs a local auto repair shop and grew up on the streets. Together they are the perfect juxtaposition of bubbly go getter and broody bad boy and it is total catnip!

I could not put this book down, i read it in one day, maybe two settings. My eyes flew over the words, the writing was so fluid it was such a fun and easy summer read.

I needed a light romantic love story to read. This is So Happening is the second book in the series and fits the bill to perfection. Though I have not read the first book, it did not feel at all like I was missing anything.

The title was the first thing that drew me in. Then the story did. The question I had going in was; will she be able to convince him?

Devin and Jessica are so different. Devin is this tattooed, mechanic with a hard exterior and Jessica is so sweet and bubbly. I loved reading the battle of wills between both of them. Jessica getting into everything in his life and making everyone fall in love with her. In addition, the family and friends that they are surrounded by is so fun and worth the read.

There are topics that may be difficult for some readers but this is not just a romance the secondary characters make this read so good. For readers who wants a romance but also wants a bit more in there.

Release Aug 4th

This is so happening by Amelia Kingston

I received a free ARC copy in exchange for a free copy.

Jesse is full of light and energy. Devin is gruff and dark. Jesse sets her eyes on Devin and when they share a kiss, she is in love.

This story is such a sweet romance that isn't without its heat. Armed with her determination, Jesse goes after Devin and does not give up. You will smile at her antics to get him. Devin, Mr. Stoic, struggles to let Jesse into his heart and admit that he loves her.

Amelia Kingston crafts her heartwarming love story so well. You can understand where each character is coming from and follow along the ride with each. We meet the friends of both along with Jesse's traditional family and Devin's unconventional one. They all makeup the cast of characters that support the story.

Give the lighthearted book a read. You will be glad you did.

I was waiting for the next Amelia Kinston’s book impatiently, constantly checking and rechecking the release date. I fell in love with her writing and humour after I read the first book in the series „So far, so good“. I may also say that I was expecting something similar and as hilarious as „So, that got weird”. And it was not the case. Because the second book was its own self, not similar to any book I read so far. I am already used to heroines being damsels in distress denying themselves the chance on love and normal healthy relationships waiting to be persuaded to open their minds and hearts to new possibilities. Here, however, the heroine makes almost all the efforts and does pursuing, she is active, opinionated and goes for what she wants. It is refreshing to read the novel where the main characters „switched places”. I liked the plot and enjoyed reading the novel.
Thanks to the publisher, author and Booksprout for kindly provided advanced copy. All opinions are mine.

Love the vibe to this story! Fun and heartfelt!Such a sexy, sweet connection between Jessie and Devin! Jessie is like a cheerleader on crack; all jokes and excitement, which can be fun, but it can also be exhausting. The girl cannot say no to people, so she runs herself ragged. Devin is the strong and silent type; very grumpy, but underneath that grump is a sweetheart. Jessie and Devin; share a hot kiss, but Devin doesn’t see a future with Jessie, so he pushes her away. Jessie is not having it! She keeps pursuing him until he caves. Normally, a girl like Jessie would get on my nerves, but the author managed to make her likable. Loved the banter between Jessie and Devin! So fun! There’s a whole opposite attract type scenario going on, which was great. Loved getting a little bit about the couple from book 1 too! Excited to read more from this author!

Jessie is a very likeable character, with her fun, perky personality, and good intentions. The poor girl ran herself ragged trying to keep everyone happy. I loved her bond with her brother Jake, although her entire family is great. When she meets Devin, she's definitely met her match. Devin is the strong, silent, broody type. I loved how Jessie pushed his buttons. He doesn't want, nor trust relationships. After so much disappointment throughout his life, he's understandably got some issues that are not easy to overcome. Both characters having some personal struggles to work out, these struggles are what makes the story even stronger, because we witness their growth as individuals, and as a couple. Devin's sister, everyone from the garage, and Jessie's family make for great side characters in the story. I happily recommend this book.

Jessie is the kind of person that everyone needs in their life. She is spontaneous, outgoing and when it comes to those she cares about, she is unwavering. A chance meeting with Devin and she knows that he is her destiny but convincing him may be the biggest challenge of all.

Due to his difficult past Devin is focused on his career and his sister. He has built walls around himself and appears to be distant and withdrawn so even though he may be attracted to Jessie he is not what she needs in her life however he may just find out that this is a battle he will not win.

Although their journey wasn’t without its obstacles these two opposites were so much fun together and couldn’t have been more perfect for each other.

When Jessie laid eyes on Devin there was an instant attraction. But they came from different worlds, she a carefree student and he a hard-working mechanic with a chip on his shoulder not believing in love. Jessie however is not easily discouraged and never back away from a challenge. Especially if the prize was a man like Devin. Will she succeed in wearing him down or will his restraint be strong enough to keep her at a distance? This is a story about two people with totally different outlooks on life, a story of learning that you are good enough and to fight for what is important to. It is the first time I've read one of rhis author's books but definitely not the last.

4.75 stars!
Omg !! I loved, loved, loved this book!
This is how much I loved it, after I was done with it, I went and bought all Amelia Kingston's books to read!

Amelia Kingston has a brilliant, funny and adorable book with This Is So Happening. First off, I love the name of this book. Right from the tittle, I knew it was going to be for me. Then the characters, Jessie and Devin. I loved each of them for different reason. Jessie was headstrong and kind of crazy, nut in a good way. And Devin was standoffish. for a good reason.

This was such a fun book, I stayed up all night reading it. I enjoyed it so much!!
