Terra Pierce doesn’t know what to do. First, she receives a terrifying message from her younger brother Will, and then she’s accosted by some burly thug threatening her life. She has 2 weeks to pay off her brother’s debts or else. She hasn’t made that much money ever, she needs to find some job that pays extremely well. Whatever it takes, she will do it. Ryan Canson loves his mother. He’s taken off time from work to go on a family vacation like she wanted, but he is dreading it. His mother will hound him about settling down and making her a grandma and he is nowhere near ready for that yet. His brother half-jokingly suggested he brings a fake girlfriend. He doesn’t personally know any woman he’d want to help him with something like this, and if he called any of the women he does know, then his private life could get unnecessarily complicated. So he decides to place an ad online, looking for a date in exchange for money. It seems the perfect deal for both. Until things get... complicated. A billionaire standalone novel from new romance author Janet Platt!
The cover is quite deceiving. This makes it look like a steamy, kind of filthy book, but it's not. It's actually a sweet, entertaining, although predictable, romance about a rich guy and a girl who is working 3 jobs to stay afloat. Their relationship is unrealistic, but it was still adorable. It was a quick read, not too heavy, and overall would give it about 3.5 stars.
A short, sweet romance that I blew through in a couple of days (if I could have sat still for a few hours I'd have done it in a day.)
The relationship between the main couple is sweet, and I really love the main guy's mom! Also, the scene where he takes her shopping reminds me so much of dramatic kdrama scenes between the rich male lead and main female lead, it was kind of humorous and sweet at the same time. Maybe because I've been into kdrama recently, and this book hit a lot of the right tropes, I loved this story.
It's also been a while since I read a straight romance so I was glad to start with something sweet. Recommend if you like a sweet romance with a touch of heat. I might look into more by this author.
I agree with Alisha. The cover is misleading. It is a delightful, entertaining story that holds your attention - and keeps you wanting more. In fact, I want to go on the record and ask when the sequel will be available!
I really enjoyed Just Pretending. A great read for these trying times.
