Shepherd Security Operator Danny ‘Mother’ Trio is a proud United States Marine Raider, the Marine Corps’ Special Forces Team. He is calm and steady. He has always put his brothers and sisters in arms, the team, and the mission first. He has an online friend he’s never met. He has played word games against her for five years. Just seeing a message from her in the in-game chat screen, always lifts his mood. Messaging her and playing his games against her is the last thing he does before a mission and the first thing he checks after. He knows very little personal identifiable information about her, but he knows that she is a good person, a highly intelligent and engaging woman who is just as competitive as he is. On-line, they have an amazing relationship that he treasures. After a particularly rough mission, he decides he wants to meet her.
Dr. Annaka Sanchez loves her life. She’s a marine biologist lucky enough to study beluga whales in their natural habitat. She’s never been one who thinks she needs a man in her life and a relationship hasn’t fit into her busy life. But there is one man who she has been playing a scrabble-like on-line word game against for years who she loves to chat with in the in-game chat function. At times, their chat has been flirty. He is funny, smart, and a competitive player, traits that she finds attractive. All she knows about him is that his first name is Danny. She doesn’t know how old he is, where he lives, or what he does for a living, but she has fantasized about meeting him. When danger finds her, Mother and the Shepherd Security Team will use all their skills and training to find her, protect her, and bring down those responsible!
Warning, this story is realistic, with adult language and content on the way to the HEA. This is book 7 in the Shepherd Security series. Even though the story does continue from book to book, each is a stand-alone story and can be read without reading the prior book(s), but they are best enjoyed in order.
Margaret Kay is a wife, a mother of two adult children, a grandmother, a pet lover who makes her own dog food from scratch, and a writer of Military Romance Novels.
Margaret's husband proudly served 8 years in the United States Navy. She's a veteran of more than a few deployments as the spouse who took care of the family while her military member served halfway around the world.
Margaret has given us a bit of everything to make this a page turner. There is action, suspense, drama, danger, tension, angst, emotions, secrets, and a hell of a lot more. Twists and turns abound that you don’t see coming.
The action starts right from the beginning and keeps on coming. It is also a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but this is one series you will get addicted too. It did take me a while to get into the story and used to Margarets storytelling but once I did it is easy to enjoy the stories.
Make sure to start at the beginning as characters do cross over. The stories are told through multiple POV’s as you really get inside the characters heads and know what they are thinking and learn who they are better. These wonderful characters are well written, complex, and fully realised. These alpha men and women are saviours and will do anything to protect those who they love and those who need it to fight against evil and those who wrong others.
Sometimes it is really difficult to write a review where you have to note both the good and the awkward in a story. More so for independent authors who work hard to bring us entertainment.
What did I like about this story? The premise of an online friend met through gaming. I loved that this thread was kept throughout the story. Having it feature more prominently one more time would also have been good. Mother and Annake made a great couple and I appreciated that the characters still felt pretty real and human. The suspense element was only mid-level though.
What didn't work so well was some of the dreary detail in the book. It really could have been edited more. These include the full name and nickname of sooooo many agents as well as when describing locations. Introducing side characters organically as the story unfolded would have been better than the long list upfront, not to even talk about the rundown of each one's leave and where they will spend it. It added nothing to the story at all. The same with some of the dreary location descriptions. I know Annake's placehad wood paneling.. But not if it was cozy, cheery, bright, restrained... Whatever would show her personality more.
In all, the book had some annoying points but I still wanted the HEA.
I discovered Margaret Kay's Shepherd Security series just a couple of weeks ago and have since read all of them! I've really enjoyed stories books about a group of brave men and women! There is just the right amount of action mixed with interesting stories and some good romance! Operation Unknown Angel is about Security member Mother and his meeting with marine biologist Annika. The setting for the story is Alaska, there are kidnappings, earthquakes and oil rig disasters and the members of Shepherd Security hotfooting to the rescue! Another very enjoyable romp from Margaret Kay, now one of my favorite authors!, She certainly does her research! Looking forward to the next book in this highly entertaining series!!
Painful, absolutely painful to read. I am so thankful I didn't pay money for the book. There was absolutely no chemistry between the characters. The author provided unnecessary details. Like I really needed to know where the address was located on the condo?? And the love scenes... don't even go there. They were pathetic and uninspired. I think Barbara Cartland wrote more passionate love scenes.
This was different... But as good as the other books. As usual there were the relations between the people working for Shepherd Security and the people working on the places they 'operated' (They are operators, right?). Having more than one Operation in this book was a bonus so get ready for lots of action and you will not be sorry you got this book...
I could only give this one 3 stars because unlike the other books in this series I felt it did not really come to a conclusion. I was left hanging with who did it and why. Also, like the others books it read as choppy but I was used to it. This was a great story but could have come to a conclusion with 1 more chapter.
This was the continuation of the previous story about Breille and Sloan. I enjoyed this story regarding drilling in Alaska be and whales and Annaka who's a marine biologist, however it didn't seem to have an ending. Maybe the story will continue with the next book, but an ending would have been nice.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t want to read a sex scene between the hero and someone random chick who is not the heroine. I don’t care if it’s before they meet. You can mention it happened but don’t write a detailed encounter. It’s just bad taste for a romantic novel with a HEA. I tried to read past it, but I never got into the story after that. DNF @ 40%
Book 6 was good the actions followed a straight line and the reader could follow along and enjoy the book. But this book the actions were jumping willy-nilly all over the book making it a hard read!
Feeling at loose ends after a trafficking case, Danny ‘Mother’ Trio decides it would be a good time to take things further with his longtime online game partner, Dr. Annaka Sanchez, but during their text messaging, Annaka stops responding. Hoping the busyness of her job kept Annaka from answering, Mother lets it go but with a 24hour non-response makes Mother worry.
The team looks into it and find Annaka was kidnapped from an Alaskan research lab and deploy. Annaka is found but the teams unable to tie things as neatly as they’d like before a higher priority operation is necessary. Less than 24hours after Mother leaves, Annaka finds herself in trouble she can’t handle and finds a tie the team can use but Mother is on another operation and can’t talk to or soothe her.
Recognizing Annaka as Mother’s girl, the team has his back and arrange another rescue for Annaka and a co-worker realizing a wide-spread conspiracy with far reaching effects is afoot and re-dispatches the team.
To my taste, this was a very good outing…but, there seemed to be extra filling and perhaps a thread was left undone. Rating:4.5stars
Danny "Mother" Trio is one of the operators at Shepherd Securities, a multi agency. Everyone who works there was in one of the military services and have special skills. They are called upon when the no one else can do the job. Annaka is a researcher in Alaska. Her and Danny have been play word games for the last ten years and have been chatting. When Annaka does not respond to his chat and she has not played her games, Danny get worried. Sam Shepherd, owner of the agency, agrees to let Danny and some of his teammates to go to Alaska and figure it out. They do find Annaka hidden in a cabin with a co-worker who is killed. Their story starts from there. This book was really good just as the other six prior to this one. After reading the first one, I ordered all 15 of them. They are a fast read and you get to know the characters real well. Read the series in order. This is a must to read.
I really enjoyed this series book # 7 Operations: Unknown Angel ,Shepherd Security By Margaret Kay I loved this book , I loved Danny code name Mother when he meets Annaka , his team saves her from a kidnapping to do with oil rigs , they had been friends for about five years but had never met in person until her kidnapping she had always took her turn playing there on line games but when she doesn't play her turn he knows something is wrong ,he goes to Shepard to get permission to go to Alaska to find Annaka. I recommend 18 and up .
Finally Mother, aka Danny, get someone special to care for. He takes care of everyone like a Mother Hen and realized, after a tough mission, he was lonely and needed someone like his teammates have. He decided to send a message to his game playing friend to see if she would be open to phone calls. They have been playing games together and messaging for five years and he considered her a friend. In the middle of a sentence Annaka suddenly goes silent. Afte two days he gets Garcia to find her and they find she is missing. The team is deployed to find her but the job isn’t over when they find her because she is still in danger.
I cried, I cheered, I cried some more. Annika the female lead is a strong, intelligent, caring woman. She is the perfect woman for Mother, if she would allow herself to be vulnerable. I often wondered who Mother would finally be paired with. This beluga whale researcher is kidnapped and almost killed. Also you will find out the remarkable story of Madison's New child. Can't wait to read final two books of this series. But please help Lassitor find his mate also.
I have really enjoyed this series and have looked forward to each new title, but I was disappointed with this one. The storyline just didn't seem to flow like the previous books and didn't hold my attention.
I do appreciate the way the bedroom scenes are written. It's nice that there isn't a lot of explicit detail. I'm of the opinion that less written is better for the reader's imagination
This series is an automatic read for me. Each book is complete featuring a new couple while bringing us updates on prior couples. Edge of your seat suspense and rapid page turning can be expected. Meticulous detail, this focused on marine biology and how this field is essential to environmental protection. Not only a great story but I learned from it as well.
This has been an interesting and intriguing series, and this book was no exception. I really like how each story is unique, that the women that come into their lives, as well as their stories, are not cookie cutter versions of one another (which unfortunately happens with lengthier series') , and the camaraderie and love between this unconventional family. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
I am loving this series, in particular because each heroine has a different background and career so I have learned new things with each book. Annaka is a marine biologist studying Beluga whales, we learn about them and the impact of mining on the fragile Alaskan environment. I also love how we are meeting the whole Shepherd security family and how involved everyone is . Exciting, interesting story leading into the next one, can’t wait!
This was a good book until the very very end. I did not like the way it ended. It was just left hanging and I don't like that. But other than that the characters were good and realistic, the plot was intense, the story writing was clear and concise. I just didn't like the ending.
Although it doesn't stop me from reading any of these books 📚! Very invested in these characters. Still having a hard time with ending tho. This is why I have 3stars. Otherwise woulda been 4. Looking forward to next book!😁
I have greatly enjoyed the Shepherd Security books . I'm looking forward to the next 2books to come out!! You did a great job with the books ! Keep the great books coming !!! Thank you a great fan very good books!!!
This is the 2nd review.of Margaret Kay's books and they are the ONLY reviews I have EVER done!! They are just that good! I think the Shepherd Security series is the best security series I have EVER read! Can't wait for the next 2 to be available!!
Just how many times does the h have to be saved because she keeps putting herself in danger? By the end of the book, I was just so tired of her repeatedly not listening to the professionals advice that I didn't care what happened to her anymore.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book has very enjoyable characters and is action packed. The parts about Alaska were interesting. The romance is entertaining as well. A very entertaining book!
Mother has finally found someone of his own. The girl he has played games with for five years has been kidnapped and he and his team has rescued her. She seems to have bad luck following her. Having Mother looking out for her has helped her to stay alive.
I loved this novel! It was the perfect amount of suspense and romance. It was a complete surprise to me when she was taken again! Great novel and an excellent blend of characters that yes, make a GREAT FAMILY! Thank you!
This book was awesome. I loved the story. There are always some interesting twists and turns in this series. This book didn’t disappoint. If you are looking for a fun read this will fill the bill. I highly recommend it.
I would have given Operation: Unknown Angel a five rating because it is good. However, I felt the ending left many unanswered questions, plus I like to know the bad guys get their just rewards.
This series was a must read every book was telling different and sometimes unusual themes always coming back to the family Shepherd Security and the affection and respect they all had for each other. I have to say I enjoyed reading every book.
