“Pearson’s excellent characters and plotting capture the complexity and beauty of family. . . . Pearson rises to another level with this excellent story.” ― Publishers Weekly starred review

When the man she loved years ago returns to town, one young woman’s complicated past rises again, threatening to expose her well-kept secrets.

If Maxine could put her finger on the moment when her life went into a tailspin, she would point back twenty years to the day her daddy died. She tells herself he’s the only person who ever really knew and loved her, and if he hadn’t left her behind, her future would’ve taken a different path. No absentee mother, no stepfather, no rebellious ripping and running during her teenage years. And no JD, who gave her wandering young heart a home, at least for a time.

But that’s over and done with. All grown-up now, Maxine has pledged her heart and ring finger to Theodore Charles, the man she’ll promise to love, honor, and obey in front of God and everybody. At least that’s what she’s telling anybody who will listen. The only folks buying it are the dog and the readers of her column, however. Her best friend and family aren’t having it―not even Celeste, the double bass–playing thirteen-year-old the community of Mount Laurel, North Carolina, believes is Maxine’s adopted sister. And apparently, neither is the newly returned JD, who seems intent on toppling Maxine’s reconstructed life. As her wedding day marches ever closer, Maxine confronts what it means to be really known and loved by examining what’s buried in her own heart and exposing truth that has never seen the light of day.

A Christian fiction novel with a poignant story of romance, a search for truth, and a journey to redemption. For fans of Chris Fabry, Lauren Denton, and Charles Martin.

Excellent follow up to her debut novel A Long Time Comin’. I would have read this and loved it even if I weren’t married to her!

This is such a powerfully affecting novel, I cannot believe that Pearson is a relatively new writer. I didn't read her first novel, but I didn't feel lost with this one so it definitely stands alone. I do want to go back and read A Long Time Comin' now that I know what a superb writer she is!

I connected with Maxine and was rooting for her through the peeling back of all of the layers of secrets. I'm not always a fan of this type of book, often the secrets that the characters are hiding are kind of eye-rolling and you wonder why they didn't just come out with the news. This book is different though. The reader gets a real sense of the depth of Maxine's desire to hide things away, not just for herself but for the others involved.

This isn't what I would call a fast paced book, it is very thoughtful and contemplative, however I stayed up late reading because I wanted to know how things turned out. I was honestly surprised when I finished because the book doesn't have the ending I was expecting, but it is the perfect ending for this particular novel.

Highly recommended, definitely pick up this beautiful tale of forgiveness and moving forward.

A story of family, redemption, and forgiveness. I loved Maxine' s columns sprinkled throughout the book, and found them both challenging and encouraging. It was gratifying to follow along with her journey, watching her gather courage and grow more into the person God had in mind for her to be. One of the quotes that I thought was so profound from this book was: "My anger is self-directed. You keep getting in the way." I think that's so true both of the character, and of people in general. How often, when we're really angry at ourselves, do we take it out on others? There is plenty of food for thought in this book--and food in general, as the family owns a catering company! I think I snacked more than usual while reading this!

If you enjoy multi-generational family dramas, lots of dialogue, and spiritual themes, give this book a try!

This is my second book baby, and I love it as much as the first. I think it will make you ask yourself, “Where do I find my worth? How do I define myself? What or who is first in my life?” as you walk toward the altar with bride-to-be Maxine Owens.

It’s really refreshing to read about families of different cultures without having an agenda thrown in your face. I’m very impressed by this author. The family dynamics, the spiritual nuggets and the flowing dialogue were all a perfect fit for my personal reading taste. I normally stick with romance but I do like occasional women’s fiction and I’m so glad a picked this up! Personally, I didn’t care for Lilian. She’s just too nosy for a pastor’s wife. The Atwell’s were both unusual but I suppose they help move the plot along. I really appreciated how the family’s story was intertwined with their trust in God. It didn’t just get tucked into the story so it could be labeled Christian fiction. It flowed naturally. I didn’t always agree with Maxine but I did enjoy her story.

I enjoyed reading an early copy of 'Til I Want No More for endorsement, and I loved it! Pour yourself a glass of sweet tea and sit back to enjoy this delightful new story from Robin W. Pearson. Once again her soulful southern voice brings heart-tugging family relationships into the spotlight with realism and meaningful emotions. I was inspired by Maxine’s journey toward courage and honesty. The other family members and friends added depth and beauty to the story. Readers who enjoy family focused southern fiction are sure to enjoy ’Til I Want No More.

This author masterfully creates a heart-felt story with a depth and richness of character I enjoyed. The family dynamics are real and relatable. I felt part of this community and adored the small-town setting. Things do not play out the way I thought they would. I loved that! I also liked how the characters evolve, along with the story and their situation.

I read a recent interview with the author who shared her inspiration for this story, she says, “I tend to cling to the past and my mistakes like they are life rafts, when in reality, they’re dragging me under and away from God’s saving grace. ’Til I Want No More is both a confession and an admonition: When Jesus says in Luke 6:37, “Forgive, and you will be forgiven,” it includes forgiving Robin. I must trust what God says about me and not let anything or anyone—my husband, children, parents, friends, enemies, work, success, or failure—tell me who I am.”

I appreciated how the author dealt with this revelation and relevant topics in a non-preachy way. She says, “Maxine’s story puts faith into practice by highlighting current, real-life topics. These topics include the dynamics of mother-daughter relationships, “parenting” adult children, nontraditional families, premarital counseling, and the emotional effects of losing a parent. I think it is important for believers to see that our Bible isn’t a history book; it serves as our authority on current events.”

This author recently earned a Christy Award for her first novel, A Long Time Comin’. I was deeply moved by that story, the characters, and their situation. I know that both novels would work well for your next book club pick. If you haven’t read this author’s novels, I highly recommend them. This book is a must read and this author is one to watch.

I wanted more of, ‘Til I Want No More, by Robin W. Pearson. And by that, I mean, I didn’t want it to end.

The story follows Maxine, a thirty-year-old blogger, who has an affinity toward keeping secrets and passive aggressive behavior. Though she initially agreed to premarital counseling with fiancé’s pastor, the more questions asked the tighter poor Maxine winds herself up.

The situation is further complicated when ex-beau J.D. comes to town, with demands Maxine isn’t even willing to consider.

Pearson has a way of creating family dynamics that draw you in and keep you wanting more. I connected with Maxine right away. It isn’t always easy to say what you’re feeling, especially when you’re hiding those emotions from yourself. The story put me through a whirlwind, from laughing with Maxine as she raids ice cream from her parent’s freezer, to crying with her when she finally finds the strength to open up.

I will be a lifelong fan of Robin’s. If you haven’t yet, I suggest you go pick up one of her novels and am certain you’ll be one too.

This story is filled with so much more than mere words. It is filled with love, and family, and heartache. Both the characters and their experiences are tangible, relatable, and exciting to see unfold. This story led me on a rollercoaster of gasps, smiles, and amens! It fits on my shelf right between the mysteries and the devotionals. Love this book!

’Til I Want No More is a story to settle in with and enjoy. This is perfect for readers who like a slow read, a story that develops with care and love over time. As we learn more about these characters, especially our main character, Maxine, we learn that the secrets she is keeping run far deeper than first expected. As these secrets are slowly and agonisingly revealed, I was glued to the pages to learn how she would handle the unveiling of the things she had worked so hard to keep hidden.

Maxine is getting married and the countdown to her big day is ever present in this book. Maxine is also a writer and her columns are included in the book, giving the reader a deeper insight into her turmoil. She carries hurt from her childhood, the death of her father and her mother leaving her in her grandparents’ care while she left to deal with her own grief. She carries hurt from her older childhood, being reunited with her mother and her new stepfather. She carries hurt from her teen years, a failed romance and a baby that she handed over to her mother and stepfather to raise. All this pain simmers below the surface, recently brought to light thanks to her engagement and dreams that are preventing her from sleeping.

It is pretty clear to the reader that Maxine has a long road ahead of her- one that will bring the truth to light. She is carrying a heavy load. At first, I was slightly unsympathetic - just tell him already. But as the depth of her secrets is revealed, I became more and more sympathetic to her troubles and her desire to keep it under wraps. This story did not have the ending I was expecting. The plot is slow - far more about introspection, reflection and self examination than any great action. The romance is pretty low key and didn’t move in the way I expected. It is a book to sink into and enjoy. Yet, despite the time given to the plot and the unfolding of Maxine’s decisions, the ending is left quite open and didn’t give me the conclusion I was expecting.

I have to say I love, love the representation in this book. Maxine is black with Latino heritage, as are many of the characters. It is utterly genuine and so refreshing to see in Christian fiction, which is so often whitewashed.

A beautiful book about forgiveness and facing your past, perfect for readers of Southern Fiction.

This was my first read by Robin Pearson and I really enjoyed it. My heart went out to Maxine, the main character, as she faced a tough situation because of a decision thirteen years earlier. Throughout the story she had to deal with the past and find the courage to tell the truth.

Her interaction near the end of the book with the main person she needed to speak the truth to was a little anti-climactic and it seemed like the teenager was more the adult than Maxine. Aside from that, there were a couple of parts that were a little confusing to me but overall, it was an enjoyable read and I'll definitely read more from this author.

Part of the reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I made the mistake of comparing it to A Long Time Comin' - Robin Pearson's first book. That book was one of the best books I read in 2020 and I was eagerly awaiting Book 2. I was hoping for and expecting a sequel, because I felt invested in so many of the characters in ALTC. I eagerly began, waiting for some of my friends to appear....and it slowly became clear that this book had different main characters. (Although one couple from ALTC are included in the story.)

So, I began the book with a bit of disappointment and it took me a few pages to get into these new characters. Mrs. Pearson does an excellent job of developing characters who are not always likeable, characters with flaws that hurt others. Relationships are complex and answers are not always easy. This book did not take me on the emotional roller coaster that ALTC did, but it was still a fantastic journey and I highly recommend this book!

This is the second book I've read by Robin W Pearson. This one may be better than the first which I thought was superlative. Her characters and settings just speak to me. The diaglogue is written very well and the plot is always compelling. I identified quite a bit with Maxi/Maxine. I was a teen mom but didn't pass off my son as my brother even though I could have easily done so. But I recognized some of the things that got Maxine to the place where that happened and I was thrilled she understood grace, forgiveness and redemption. It was also a nice touch that we saw the characters from the first book. I enjoyed this book very much.

Great character development coupled with finding your self-worth makes this a must read for 2021!

Maxine has had her ups and downs in life, but she finally thinks that she has things in order. She writes a column for a faith publication and is engaged to a young headmaster that oversees a local school. Things seem to be going in the right direction. But when they begin their year of premarital classes, things from Maxine’s past she has tried to put behind her begin to work their way back. When the man that she fell in love with back in high school returns to town, even more skeletons emerge from the closet. She’s trying to convince everyone that she is fine, but no one close to her believes it. As they move closer to the wedding date, Maxine realizes that the secrets that she has been holding from everyone have to become known, which could alter her future. She must look and learn what it means to be truly known and loved by the one who wonderfully and fearfully made her.

To put this book in context, it is geared toward Maxine’s character development, which puts it at a little bit slower pace than reading for action or suspense. The focus is on her life and what she has gone through to get where she is and how she is not quite where she really needs to be with herself or with God. I love that Pearson used some of the same characters from her previous book to help Maxine in her progression. It’s always fun when a reader gets to visit characters from a previous novel to see how they are moving in their journey as well, almost like catching up with an old friend. It’s very easy to form an emotional connection with Maxine and even get pulled down when she finds herself in despair. As a reader, you just want the truth to come out for her so that she can finally begin to heal and stop spiraling downward. This book just goes to show that even people who appear like they have it all together can be just a depressed as anyone else.

I’m not going to give anything away in this book, but just when you think you have something figured out about Maxine, the truth comes out and it throws you for a loop. This happened multiple times. I also liked the twist at the end that showed the one person she tried to keep in the dark already knew and that was causing more of a strain than anything else. Great story to kick off the new year!

TRUTH AND CONSEQUENCES!

Robin W. Pearson has written a perfect example of Southern Fiction! It is a story that is told slowly, as one would share with a best friend while sipping a glass of sweet tea in the front porch swing. Pearson has created a relatable cast of characters and a family unit that makes you feel immediately as if you are more of a participant in the story than just a reader. Because of that, the reader may find it easier to invest in the slower pace of the story. Maxine has found herself in a big, ole mess. Unfortunately, she has no one to blame but herself for the mess. The question is what is she going to do about it? She is engaged to the man of her dreams, Theodore Charles. She has been keeping a very important piece of information from him. The kind of information that could change everything. When her old High School boyfriend, JD, moves back to town, suddenly her carefully planned out life begins to unravel. Maxine finds an unlikely ally in Theodore’s Pastor’s wife and she will be a mentor as well as a true and faithful friend. It is a story about truth and consequences. Love can conquer all. All families are complicated, some just much more so than others! Mainly, this is a beautiful story of forgiveness and redemption!

Thanks to The Book Club Network & Tyndale House Publishers for an advance reader copy. All comments and opinions are my own.

A warm, generous hug of a novel complete with a large loving family, strong women, the angst of confronting past actions with their consequences, secrets uncovered, love, faith, and redemption. Well-written and believable, with a racially-blended family which is NOT dysfunctional. I enjoyed the various relationships between grandparents, uncles, mothers, fathers, and children/grandchildren. Healthy long-term marriages are depicted alongside a wobbly engagement as well as an unwed mother and adopted child.

This story is told through the eyes of 30-year-old Maxine, who is beginning to doubt her upcoming marriage to Teddy, especially after her old high school boyfriend comes back to town. The novel details Maxine's ability to confront her past and expose the truth she's been hiding for 13 years. I appreciated the way the author gracefully threaded bible verses and references to God throughout the book. The characters have a sincere faith and God is part of their daily lives.

Would have loved Mama Ruby's recipes for that delicious chicken and cornbread! And those pies!! Yes, it's the authentic kind of southern fiction that includes mouthwatering food descriptions.

From the first page, this contemporary Southern story immersed me in the lives and loves of a tight-knit four-generation family. This is most definitely a Christian fiction novel. When I turned the final page, I felt like I’d been to CHURCH in the most powerful way. The faith of the characters organically permeates every aspect of them. However, that doesn’t mean their lives are trouble-free.

The story is told primarily by 30-year-old Maxine over the course of 7 months. Newly-engaged, she’s busy planning her wedding, but is keeping a BIG secret from her fiancé. When and how can she tell Teddy the truth, and how will it impact him and other people she loves?

In addition to dialogue, the story is told through Maxine’s vivid dreams and her monthly magazine column, “My Daily Grace.” And the food! A catering company is the family business so the descriptions of food throughout made me crave the delicious dishes made by Mama Ruby, Granddaddy Lerenzo, and others.

From following the author on social media, it’s obvious faith and family are vitally important to her, and these themes shine through her beautiful writing. This book earns a rare 5-star rating from me!

This story really pulled at my heartstrings.
It's one of those that you want to read, but you get so invested in, and you have this 'feeling' as to what's coming that...you don't want to read it. If that makes any sense!
Maxine had made somewhat of a mess of her life.
On the surface, it all looked so good. She was the perfect girl. Engaged to be married to Teddy, the perfect gentleman.
But, what about everything she'd been hiding for so long...and when JD comes back to town, she is no longer able to keep up the charade.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, from beginning to end. Parts of it were hard to read. There were some really good thoughts, some really soul searching, challenging things to think about.
I really hope there will be another book in this series!

‘Til I want no more is Robin W. Pearson’s second novel. In this story we get a chance to meet Maxine.. She had a daughter years earlier, when she was just a teenager. Her parents adopted the little girl and Maxine was able to get an education and start a career. Just as she is planning her wedding, her ex moves back to town and wants to have a relationship with the daughter he has never met.

This is an emotion filled Christian women’s fiction story that will really tug at the readers heart. So many secrets have been hidden for so long and now they all come out and will affect so m any people. This story is rather slow moving and I found it a little hard to get into it. But the story itself is a great story and the writing is so fun to read. I could almost hear Maxine’s grandmother talking while I read the story. This story focuses on the importance of telling the truth, redemption, and forgiveness.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Tyndale House Publishers through NetGalley, this is my honest review.

I just finished reading this book and absolutely loved it! This is definitely a story of forgiving ourselves and facing the truth instead of living in denial. Maxine had been married very young and became pregnant and had a baby but gave the baby to her parents to raise. The now ex-husband and father of the baby was told that she had a miscarriage. Maxine has never shared with her daughter the circumstances of her birth and her daughter has been told that Maxine is her sister. She now finds herself engaged to a man who has no idea of her past. Her past and present life are headed for a collision and it definitely happens in this book. Maxine struggles with how to handle all that she has tried to ignore for so many years. It is also a journey of Maxine learning to forgive herself and learning to accept herself just the way she is. I loved all the descriptions of food. All the main characters and supporting characters are a delight to meet. You will definitely not be sorry that you read this book.

Maxine has been keeping secrets from some of her family for years, and her upcoming wedding is just about to bring her to a breaking point. Enter an old beau, and things get interesting!
I like the author's work because it's real....real families, real problems, real life and not always real solutions. She is strong on family and faith and I like that. This particular novel did start out a bit slow, but I appreciated that because I was trying to get my footing to see how intertwined her first novel is with this one. As it turns out, there are some familiar characters but the focus is on the Owens family. There is a cameo of Evelyn Lester from her fabulous debut, A Long Time Comin', which is a Christy Award winner. I've read both of her books and most definitely will read her next one.

Southern Fiction as only Southern Fiction should be, a well told story. Pearson has the gift of inviting a reader in and joining the family. She serves up her stories with a glass of ice tea and a seat on the porch.
Maxine's past and present are colliding. A decision she made when she is 17 is coming back to haunt her. Will her high school self, ruin her adult plans?
A sequel to A Long Time Comin', but your do not need to read one to read the other. You just get to visit with old friends if you do.

I just finished a wonderful southern Christian Fiction book by Robin W. Pearson called Til I Want No More. Maxine had secrets. Lots of them. Things that were considered family business. When she becomes engaged the secrets become more than she can bear. Especially when a certain person comes back to town, someone she never expected to see again. How does she manage to climb out of.the web of.lies designed by her deceit? Through this book I learned that God forgives us but we do need to face up to the consequences of our mistakes. That's all that I will say!! Read the book!! It's great!!
