I am so over the celibate heroine and the hero who moves on. Either they both move on or they both stay celibate. that's the only way I can enjoy a second chance romance. Hate the uneven playing field. now all i can think about is she wasn't as important to him as he was to her.

This heroine was far too forgiving, having dated exclusively for about a year, without preamble, he announces having joined Doctors Without Borders for two years...no discussion.

She recalls sitting across from him in a café thinking they might be heading towards a future, his announcement that’s he’s leaving, without giving her a further thought quickly diminishes any ideas of a future together. She told him to have a good life and walked out.

In retrospect, she thinks she might not have been mature in her reaction, actually her immaturity was falling into his arms, never questioning his sexual history during their time apart and now that he’s back, he wants to try again.

He is the consummate fraud, with double standards, he’s been with women in the past two years since his departure, whilst she’s remained the proverbial wallflower pining for him...her unquestionable capitulation rankled, especially her lack of willpower.

This double standard doesn’t equate to romance, that’s a lack of self-respect.

He didn’t want to think about her with anyone else. Was he a phony? Yes. He didn’t care to remember with WHOM he’d done in the last two years, because they’d meant nothing. He’d close his eyes and see Willow, and right after, he’d be filled with regret.
Not regretful enough to abstain, evidently.

He paused and she had no choice but to meet his gaze. “It’s been awhile, okay?”
“How long?”
“Unimportant. Move,”
“Babe, look at me.”
She had no choice. “What?”
“I need to know.” WHY - to further inflate his ‘ego’❓❓❓
“There’s been no one since you,” she admitted, hating how that sounded. Like she’d been pining for him.

Why do writers need to vilify the love interest to justify the plot❓I found this formulaic — and lacking in substance.

Star Rating : 3.5/5 Stars

POV : Dual

Cliffhanger : No

Hero : Braden. He was A decent hero to me. I won't say he was very JP but he was possessive to some extent and I like the way he didn't give up on Willow once he came back.

Heroine : Willow. She was the sassy heroine who had abandonment issues with her being in a foster care system. She trusted Brayden to stay with her but he gave up on her and left her too so it was tough for her to move on from that.

Pace of the story : Slow

Angst Rating : 5/10

Heat Rating : 6/10

Triggers Involved : Past Trauma ( nothing major)

Plot Summary :
Braden and Willow were together for a year and then all of a sudden Braden upped and left willow to continue with his life. It wasn't until later he realised how much he had hurt willow. But now he was back and he knew that she would be here too ,so this was his chance to take back the woman whom he had always loved.

Being changed from one foster home to another , Willow had deep abandonment issues. When Braden left her , it left deep scars on her even though she never told him that. Now he was back in her life and was trying to persuade her again. But this time won't be that easy. She might be willing to spend time with him but that does not mean he is going to get her heart this time.

Overall Opinion :
The book was good for me. It was a one time read because of some of the cliche storyline parts. The hero sleeps with everyone even though he was the one who left and the Heroine didn't sleep with anyone else. It was a typical second chance Romance and I did like it because it was written amazingly.

The hero was willing to understand her issues and help her out through them and I loved that in this book! A must read for all the second chance Romance lovers out there!

Final Verdict :
A good one time read for me.
Had a bit of cliche themes.
The hero was amazing and he was the one thing who kept me interested in this book!

Audio narration was great with Erin Mallon and Joe Arden. The book on the other hand was just ok. It was probably my least favorite of this series. I think it’s partly due to the fact we got to know all the other characters from the beginning even if they book wasn’t about them but with Braden being off in another country with Doctors with Borders, we never got to know him before this book. Also, it was a little boring if I’m being honest. It still had that same spice present in all of the Dare books or maybe it’s just me. One thing I did like about this one was getting to meet Aurora. Unfortunately, I read the Kingston series first (which I loved) so I was already aware of her backstory but it cool to read the actual story and Braden meeting her and Willow taking her in. Also, getting to see Linc, even if just for a short time. I wish I had read this series first since it’s it came first but it’s all good. I still love these trashy books and plan to read them all 😂 On to Bri’s story although I’m super pissed she only gets a novella. I feel like we got a bit of a start on her story in this book though.

This was such a great second chance story. Braden has been gone for two years working for a traveling doctors group. He left behind a girl that he has not been able to forget. Willow has had a tough time with relationships. After Braden left, she has not been able to get over the devastation that she feels. When he returns and takes a job with professional football team that she works for, she is faced with having to work with him as he is her new boss. Braden has never forgotten Willow. Now that he is back, he decides that he wants her back and sets out to win her over. I really love this series and the whole Prescott family. Braden and Willow’s story is sweet and reading their journey back to each other was very satisfying. Definitely a must read for all Carly Phillips fans.

I have thoroughly come to love the Dare Nation series and this book was no exception! I've been curious about Braden since we were first introduced and his story was one with all the feels. The second chance romance between Braden and Willow was filled with so much emotion from the heartbreaking moments to the heartwarming ones, you can't help but fall in love with this couple and root for their HEA. If your ready to swoon over this heartfelt love story then I recommend you start reading now!

Carly Phillips Dare Nation series bks 01-04

Making Up Is Hard to Do

Willow James has spent the last two years trying to mend her heart. Braden Prescott has been pining for the one he let get away. These two are built for drama. 😄

If she didn’t care, she wouldn’t be holding in so much hurt. As much as he hated knowing he’d caused that pain, he hoped to work their way through it.
-- Braden Prescott

I do like his protective streak, even though he may overdo it a bit. And she's got walls, heck, they both do, that are sky high. I like how they seem to slowly realize that what they had before was something and involved strong feelings, but until those walls started coming down neither truly knew the other.

I love and can relate to the foster child aspects. A lot of it is representative of my own experiences. Sadly, hers is one of the better scenarios as far as crappy hands go. That is in no way to say that the situation was great, but she got lucky with her last family.

As much as I like their story, this ended up being more of Aurora's story by the time we reached the last third or so of the book. I absolutely love how Willow, Braden, and the rest of the Prescott family took her in and looked out for her, but I think her parentage and other relations overshadowed Braden and Willow's reunion.

I listened to this as part of the 'Dare Nation Series' audio book collection. The narrators are Joe Arden and Erin Mallon, both of whom I like. I love that we get two narrators for this series. Of course, I now want to go the next step and have them in duet, but I'll settle for this. 😘 🎧🩷🎧

"Fabulous book, I devoured this in a day! Dare To Stay is another great addition to the Dare Nation books. A second chance romance that will have you loving these two.

Willow & Braden were awesome together. Both of them a little broken from their pasts, but yet they were the perfect match & I loved they got their second chance at love.

I'm excited to see what she does with next book in the Dare series. And, as always it’s great to catch up the siblings and their loved ones. " ~Stephanie

"Braden Prescott did more than leave his family behind when he joined Doctors Without Borders, he left Willow James. When he returns home and joins the Miami Thunder as their head physician, he’s going to have more than just the team to deal with.

Dare to Stay is book 4 in the Dare Nation series. Once again, I am thrilled with the writing and story line. Ms Phillips did an excellent job of pulling me into the story early on and held my attention. The sexy times are hot, hot, hot but doesn’t distract you from the love story. 4.5 ⭐️" ~Carole

Braden has always felt like an outsider when it came to his family as while they excelled in sports his interest lay in medicine. Two years ago when a upheaval occurred in the family he decided to leave town and his girlfriend Willow when he accepted a mission with Doctors Without Borders. When he returns to town he wants a second chance with Willow and working together might just be the first step to ensure that it happens.

Willow has never truly come first in anyone’s life and she thought that her relationship with Braden was different. She was devastated when he left and determined to never feel that kind of pain again. The chemistry and connection between them may be stronger than ever but she isn’t about to let him break her heart again. She learnt the hard way that she wasn’t enough to keep him around the first time so why would it be any different this time?

The heat between them was never the problem but Braden’s determination to win back the only woman he has ever loved is enough to make you swoon.

5 star review Dare To Stay (Dare Nation #4) by Carly Phillips

Having read a number of books by Carly Phillips I really enjoy her style of writing. Dare to Stay ticked all the boxes for me, from Alpha males, to feisty heroines, to family love and support and I was fully invested from the first to the last page.

This is Braden Prescott and Willow James’s second chance at love story and it was an entertaining and at times emotional read. Having been hurt and feeling betrayed when Braden left her to work with Doctors Without Borders she is shocked when he returns home.

Braden has realized that he still loves Willow and knows that it will take time to earn her trust and love back, if it is even possible. The chemistry between Braden and Willow still sizzles and I loved the build up as they re built their relationship, it was humorous, sweet, romantic and steamy.

Dare To Stay is a fast paced story that had me smiling, sighing and crying and got to me.

99% of the time, if I see the words "second chance romance" or the blurb implies that it's one, I won't even consider reading the book. The only exception is when it comes to authors whose books I like like, Carly Phillips. The line "He knows leaving her once was the biggest mistake of his life." made me think that this was going to be a safe book for me to read and I gave it a try. Braden really gave me the impression that he was dedicated the two years he was away to Willow and I was loving the book. Then came the time where they slept together again after their separation and that's where things went south.

Willow was dating a man when the story began and Braden did everything in his power to sabotage their relationship so it wasn't a surprise when this line popped up ""There’s been no one since you,” she admitted, hating how that sounded. Like she’d been pining for him. “There’s not going to be anyone else,” he said on a growl, thrusting inside her and pausing."

Then came this line

Although self-pleasure was better than another man providing her with relief. Hell, he didn’t want to think about her with anyone else. Was he a hypocrite? Yes. And he didn’t care to remember what he’d done in the last two years, because they’d meant nothing. He’d close his eyes and see Willow, and right after, he’d be filled with regret. He rid his mind of those memories and focused on the woman before him.

HE SLEPT WITH MORE THAN ONE WOMAN IN THEIR TIME APART EVEN THOUGH HE WAS REGRETTING IT. HERE IS A HINT DUDE. AFTER THE FIRST TIME YOU REGRET IT, STOP DOING IT. Or even better don't sleep with other women when you are supposed to be in love with another. After that there was no point in continuing the book and since the romance for me was so dead that if someone were to look for it, they would find only the bones.

If you've followed this series, you know that this is Braden's story and he is the only "non-athlete" of this family. He has been away two years with Doctors Without Borders. When he left, he felt unfulfilled and after getting in the trenches and coming to terms that his calling is being a doctor, decides to return home. He becomes the Team Doctor for his family's sports team.

Before Braden left, he was dating Willow. Willow was shattered when Braden left and felt like she was given very few answers. She has worked her ass off and also is working for the same sports team. She hasn't dated and closed herself off to relationships. She doesn't know Braden has returned from Doctors Without Borders until she is in a company meeting where the new "Team This book was just ok for me. Not one of my favorites in this series for sure but still good. You Doc" is being introduced to the staff. Imagine her surprise when Braden comes waltzing in.

As you can guess, a large portion of the book is about these two finding their way back to each other. Willow has no faith that Braden won't take off again and is worried her heart will be broken again. It doesn't help that they work together either. Braden is on a mission to show Willow he can be what she needs. The story includes some outside storylines that fill in some chapters and will lead to other books I'm sure. Entertaining continuation of the series.

Ok, I love second chance romances if they are done well and I did not think this one was. I understand that Willow was into Braden, but she made it pretty clear that was wasn't interested in any relationship with him at the beginning, but he kept pushing. I know some people find that romantic, but was annoyed. I would have much rather Braden been like, "I understand, you are not interested let's be friends" and then them rekindle their friendship and then that blossoms into a relationship. Instead he decided to ignore what she was telling him and think, "Well I can see in her face she is interested in me so I'm just gonna keep pushing."

Braden's pushiness and his absolute confidence that he was in the right to be so pushy just did not sit well with me.

DARE TO STAY is the fourth instalment in Carly Phillips’ contemporary, adult DARE NATION erotic, romance series focusing on the Dare/Prescott family- a spin off from the author’s DARE TO LOVE series. This is physician Dr. Braden Prescott, and thirty-one year old, athletic trainer Willow James’ story line. DARE TO STAY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary. You do not have to have read the previous series to understand or follow the current timeline but like the original series, there is a back story involving the Dare family, and by extension, the Prescott family as well.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Willow and Braden) DARE TO STAY follows the rekindling romance and relationship between physician Dr. Braden Prescott, and thirty-one year old, athletic trainer Willow James. Two years earlier, Dr. Braden Prescott, in a effort to distance himself from his father’s wrath, signed up for Doctors without Borders, and in doing so left behind a heart broken Willow James in the process. Fast forward to present day wherein Braden has returned home, and is currently the head doctor for the family owned Miami Thunder football team, the team for which Willow James is the athletic trainer. Desperate to prove he is still worthy of Willow’s love, Braden begins a quick seduction of our story line heroine, a woman who was already predisposed to issues of abandonment and loss. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Willow and Braden, and the potential fall-out as Willow continues to struggle with past betrayal and rejection.

Willow James grew up in the foster care system after her mother disappeared without a trace or explanation. Having moved from family to family, Willow never had the support or vindication of being wanted until the Jonas family, who in the end, betrayed her again. Fearful that Braden will leave, like in the past, Willow battles between head and heart, as her love for our story line hero is fragile, at best. Braden Prescott always wanted to be a doctor but with three brothers all successful sports stars, Braden became the black sheep of the family, in his father’s eye but betrayal came at a cost, and Braden struggled when the truth about his family, revealing a much darker secret. Working with Doctors without Borders gave Braden the time to reflect on his life, his family and the woman he left behind, a woman who continues to struggles with Braden’s potential need to run.

The relationship between Braden and Willow is one of second chances; a rekindling romance between two people torn apart by the sins of the father, secrets and lies. With someone else vying for Willow’s attention, Braden jumps at the chance to prove he is the man for our story line hero. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Braden’s siblings: sister Brianne , Austin and Quinn (Dare to Desire), Damon and Evie (Dare to Tempt #2) , Jaxon and Macy (Dare to Play 3), their mother Christine; as well as Dr. Cole Walsh; trainer Steffy Hughes; Dr. Hudson Northfield; and foster mother Bella Jonas. Brianne Prescott’s story is next in Dare to Tease.

DARE TO STAY is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; a story of secrets, heart break, second chances and hope. The premise is compelling and engaging; the characters are spirited, wounded and energetic; the romance is sensual, tender and intense.

Fun and sexy
5 stars

I love Carly Phillips. There’s something about her books that are so positive and uplifting that reading them just makes me feel happy. Add in the fact that her stories are hella sexy and romantic and you’re onto a winner with every book.

This book is the fourth in the Dare Nation series - a spin-off from Phillips’ other Dare series’. I’ve read two of the previous books in this series, and while the couples from those books turn up in this one, you definitely don’t need to have read the others to understand and enjoy this tale.

Of our main characters - I really loved Willow. She was smart, understandably cautious but willing to be honest with herself regarding her lust - and feelings - for Braden. I never felt she was being unreasonable and I liked that the progression of her trust, in both herself and Braden, was believable. Her back story gave her depth but never bogged her, or the story, down in upsetting details.

Having read about Braden in previous Dare Nation novels - I was wondering how Ms Phillips would make me like him - as I was less than sympathetic about him leaving (even if he did join MSF) and like Willow, I wasn’t inclined to believe he was back for good. I shouldn’t have worried because Braden was an absolute gem. He realised where he’d gone wrong in the past and was determined to make it up to Willow. And he was so sensitive to her needs - moving the relationship along at a pace she was comfortable with. But he was still a sexy alpha male so there was also a nice bit of pushing and cajoling. My favourite!

Together the pair had an amazing chemistry that really gave you butterflies in the tummy moments. There was just the right amount of sexiness blended with the sweetness - it really made me believe in Willow and Braden as a couple that would last.

As always with Carly Phillips, the writing was fresh, fun and very engaging. A second-chance romance with enough going on that it will never lose your interest - I would definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for a sexy story chock full of chemistry. 5 stars.

I have so enjoyed these Dare-Prescott books. All along I have felt bad for Braden as he was not the athlete of the family but the brainiac. If you have read any of the previous books, you will remember his father belittled him for his brains and wanting to be a doctor. He was such a jerk to all of his children. Unfortunately he took off to Doctors Without Borders without talking to Willow before agreeing. I can’t begin to understand how Willow felt being a foster child and never feeling wanted or good enough. It is ten years later and Braden has grown and knows what is important to him. He ants Willow, but Willow has her walls up because of him leaving her. Now she doesn’t trust him to not leaver her again. I loved watching Braden show Willow how much he loves her and trying to get her to trust him. It helped some that she is a physical therapist and he is a doctor now for the Miami football team. There is someone who wants to make trouble for Braden and Willow. I also liked that Braden wanted to still help with his services for people who can’t afford to pay. There is a heartwarming story with that. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

I’ve been loving the Dare Nation Series and Dare to Stay did not disappoint at all. This second chance sports romance is heartwarming, steamy and swoon worthy.

Braden Prescott is finally home after being away with Doctors Without Borders for the last two years. Upon his return, he never expected to get offered the position as head team general doctor for the Miami Thunder, considering sports medicine had never been something he was interested in. Branden has always been surrounded by sports professionals in his family, so they were surprised when he took a different career path since he was expected to be part of a sports family. Wanting to do something for himself, he was offered a position abroad and he took it knowing that he was also going to be leaving the woman he was in a relationship with behind. Now the same woman is going to working for him and this time he is going to do anything in his power to get her back.

Willow James’s life hasn’t always been easy, growing up in foster care, she is used to moving around all the time. Every foster family was different, until he met Dr. Peter Jonas and his family that she finally felt at home. He was the one that gave her the opportunity to work for the Miami Thunder and she is now one of the lead trainers there. She had the perfect relationship with Braden, until he left her and her ability to trust completely shattered. Now she has to work for him and see him everyday. But it’s until they started to spend more time together that she begins to feel for him again, she vowed to not trust him again and that’s exactly what she is going to do. He might have her body, but she can’t have her heart.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Dare to Stay, the characters have chemistry and the story is full of twists to keep you reading until the very end. It’s clear from the start that both of the characters have a lot to work on, learning to trust is a big issue for them, but they always seem to lean on each other in the end. It’s told in dual POV and I liked how a lot of the characters in previous books in the series made appearances throughout the book making the story much more enjoyable to read. We also get a glimpse of what’s to come in a later series which was great. All in all, the story was engaging, swoon worthy and the ending will leave you wanting for more. Highly recommend checking out this book as well as the rest of the series. I cannot wait to read what Carly Phillips comes up with next. :)

Dare to Stay (Dare Nation #4) by Carly Phillips
4 stars
M/F Second chance romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Willow loves her job. She works with pro athletes on their training programs and is fantastic at her job. She knows that her life hasn’t been the easiest, but she has made something of herself and prides herself on being able to compartmentalize her emotions.

Braden didn’t know who he was growing up. He was the odd man out. But, when he takes a chance and joins doctors without boarders, he knows that he’ll be finding himself, but doesn’t realize what he might be giving up. Now that he’s home and working with his brother’s team, there is one person he knows that he needs to make up with... Willow.

Willow and Braden have to find out if what they had before they grew up is still something that is possible now that they have lived a little more. These two will face small hurdles, emotional challenges and walls that need crumbling, but you’ll be cheering for them.

I can’t wait to see what happens next, especially with Aurora’s story!

This is the last book in the Dare Nation bundle I grabbed on a Chirp audiobook deal. I'm a sucker for a sports romance AND a deal. 😂

When Dr. Braden Prescott left athletic trainer Willow James behind, she was crushed. As a child of the foster care system, she struggled to believe anyone would ever really commit to her and Braden leaving for Doctors without Borders just cemented the fact that she needs to keep her heart out of things if she's going to be ok. But now, Braden is back and leading the medical staff at her work. He knows leaving her was a huge mistake, but can he get her to open up and trust that he will never leave her again?

This was good. Quick. Light. A nice second chance romance. There was a little bit of drama externally that I didn't really understand in this. It didn't play much of a role except maybe to compound on Willow's fears. I would've liked to have seen a little more suspense there.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fourth book in the series - and as Phillips fans will know, links to other of her series, so whilst you possibly don't need to have read them all, you will definitely get a very rich experience if you have.

Braden is the one of the brothers who did not excel at sports, but rather was very bright and became a doctor. For this, his father berated him constantly, and so in order to make his own way he went off with a friend to do a stint with Doctors without borders. In so doing, he may have benefitted himself, but he upset his family, and broke the heart of Willow, his then girlfriend. Her past made his desertion all the worse, and now he is back, she is not inclined to trust him again.

As Braden learns just how much hurt he caused, he is genuinely remorseful, and I enjoyed seeing him grow as he took on board the effect his actions had on his family and most especially Willow. This is a good second chance romance, without too much angst, and with plenty of chemistry.

Another good addition to the series, and another reminder of how much damage a verbally abusive parent can do long term - thankfully these guys are all finding that love is a great healer!

Awesome book, I devoured this in a day. I was so emotionally involved and even cried a bit. Willow’s ex (Braden) was gone for two years with Doctors Without Borders. I really felt for them. They had such chemistry, but she had been so hurt by his leaving. Cried over her past. Will she ever trust him with her heart again? It’s a very touching story, love that he realizes she means everything to him and he’d never leave her again. Had some happy tears in the end, for the two of them and also for Aurora. Looking forward to this new series with the Kingston’s. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book.

This book was full of feeling.
Hurt, love, fear, lust and caring are just some that immediately popped into my head when thinking back to this book.

Braden and Willow’s story definitely hooked me.
I really enjoyed watching Braden work for his redemption.
He was so thoughtful, caring and generous.
Bringing Aurora into the story definitely helped smooth things over.

Willow, despite her past and her hurt, took another chance at love.
She started off seeming a bit cold but the more we found out about her, the more I understood, the more I empathised with her situation.

Together they were fun, flirty, sexy and sweet.
I look forward to revisiting their relationship (hopefully) in upcoming books.

I loved how caring both Willow & Braden were. I really liked how devoted they were to their patients. Their relationship with Aurora was so sweet & I can’t wait to read more of her story.

Willow & Braden were perfect together. Both of them a little broken from their childhood & past. But they were the perfect match & I loved getting to see them get their second chance romance.

It was also great getting to see the rest of the family & their significant others. I’m looking forward to Bri finally getting her happy ending!

After the love of her life left her behind Willow moved forward hoping to to forget. She became an athletic trainer for the Miami Thunder and has been able to put the past in the past, or so at least she thought so. Braden decided he wanted to travel to places that would need his expertise as a doctor and in doing so he let someone important go. He has come home a better man but hates how he left things with Willow all those years ago. Now that he is home he is to be the new head doctor for the Miami Thunder and hopes that he can get Willow to see why he had to leave. The two come face to face and sparks immediately fly but Willow has trust issues and keeps Braden at arms length. Follow along as these two past lovers work through their grievances, will Willow ever be able to trust again? Can Braden make her see he would never leave her again? This was a wonderfully touching read filled with a rollercoaster full of emotions!
