Venys Needs Men

To Mate A Dragon

Rate this book
The human race is dying under the red comet soaring through the skies above...and with it, the sounds of dragons are in the air.

My name is Aida, and I was destined to lead the Sand’s Hunter tribe into a new generation—promised to mate with one of the last born males along the Mermaid Coast. But before Leith was delivered to my tribe, my younger sister came of age and the elders chose her to be his mate instead.

Then a messenger came from the north with rumors of dragons turning into virile males from a single, human touch. Fresh hope blooms within me as I plan to reclaim my rightful place as future matriarch to my people, and with that hope, I ready my supplies to hunt down one of these dragons to make my own. To touch him, to claim him, to take his seed and honor my people with a new generation.

But a storm is on the horizon.

And with that storm, soars an alpha dragon in heat. He’s heading straight for me.
He sees me.

All my plans crumble under his dark draconian stare.

So,

To start this review off I just want to send out a quick shout-out here.

Hi Mom!
Just Kidding,

It's to the amazing authors that created this incredibly entertaining series.
I don't think I have ever quite enjoyed a series of books, all penned by different authors so much.
EVER.
Seriously, forget the the USA Basketball dream team of 1992.

YOU ALL ARE THE REAL DREAM TEAM.

What does this series have, you say?

Well,
we've got dragons, romance, struggles, steammmmmmy times, world building, adventure, action, strong warrior women.
It's just everything anyone could ever ask for.

That being said,
I am incredibly sad to see that this is the final book in the series (at last so far....please No...I need more).
BUT, I will say what a way to end it on a bomb note.

This book was by far one of my favorites of the entire series.

We already met our dragon H and our female h in to touch a dragon, and man did they really lead up to something dramatic and cinematic.
Which is how I describe the beginning of this book. Cinematic. I was so immersed in the story telling that I felt like I was actually running across the beach. And like a scene from a horrifying monster movie, was watching a gigantic beast emerge from the ocean.
Which, RealTalk, we'd totally like to say we'd be BadA$$ like Aida, and do as home-girl does....

But in reality....y'all know we'd be hitting new land speed records to a symphony of

I enjoyed the strength Aida shows, but also that she was dealing with feelings of inadequacy, and had to show inner strength despite her turmoil (regarding her tribe...you'll see what a mean).

Zaeyr (which thank GOOD-FRIGGIN'-Lawd that he's got a dragon name but I feel like I can Finally pronounce it) is also complicated with a lot of inner struggle (and outer...cause ya know...human legs ain't the shizz yo).

Seeing another couple struggle through their entire bond, but also grow together was as entertaining as always, and was honestly the most fun I've had watching some bonding-issues in a while.

I can't tell whether it was the relationship, the dragons, the bada$$ chickas, the steammm, the interesting world, or the included map at the beginning of the story (Mutha Flippin' Yes, BOO.) that made this series a home run for me. Whatever it was doesn't matter, only that it rocked my world.

This story was a crowing finish to the series (again, I only hope it's the end SO FAR).

Fierce

I love how strong Aida is! Both Aida and her dragon are fierce, strong hunters, who often clashed, refusing to give in to each other. Seeing them fall, meeting in the middle, choosing each other was wonderful. I love these sexy, rough, stubborn dragons and would love more in this world by this author ❤️

The sequel to To Touch A Dragon, this one follows Aida, a brave huntress who has recently been passed over by her sister to receive the only male. You don’t necessarily have to read the first book, but it will help, and make the epilogue much more relevant.

This one is quite a bit different from the last book. Certain parts I enjoyed more (like the little drama/OW element provided by Delina) but others I didn’t. (like spending so much page-time within her tribe) I felt like the constant judgement/treatment/orders of her tribe was annoying, and her constantly bowing down to them… made her weak. Her relationship with Zaeyr is also much smoother, as he gets over the "changing against his will" MUCH better than Kaos did. He’s actually pretty sweet. They get down to sexytime pretty quickly too.

The book starts after the mating of Delina and Leith’s, so it overlaps timeframe wise with To Touch A Dragon a bit. Overall, it’s also a solid read, I just didn’t like this one as much. There’s a nice epilogue 3-years in the future with updates from both couples.

Loved it !!

A wonderful conclusion to the VENYS series !!! I love a great love story and this was a fantastic read !! Not a WHOLE lot of adventure, but Definitely some action !! And I like that every Dragon has different traits and characteristics.
Aida and Zaeyr are an incredible read, and I am so glad that I did !!
And You will be too !
This story follows Aida, the Huntress of the Sand Hunters tribes. She and her best friend Issa, from across the gulf of mermaids have heard rumors about , " Dragon 's " . And each girl goes in search of one....
Aida's search is not very long !
Zaeyr, is a massive ancient water Dragon, who had been preparing a nest for his female counterpart for centuries. Once the red comet rouses him from his sleep, all kinds of destruction ensues, and Aids gets caught in the middle . Once she touches him.....things will never be the same !
I enjoyed this book as well as this entire series. I love how we get different experiences and stories from the same world...
I loved SONDADRA and most of these Authors did that as well. Many more Writers to follow !!

Both Aida and her dragon are fierce, strong hunters, who often clashed, refusing to give in to each other. Seeing them fall, meeting in the middle, choosing each felt so right.

But Aidas sister can go suck my D*ck. How dare she! she just got married to a male and now she wants another while everyone else has none. I dont think so. But the council..... how dare you tell the dragon you will choose his mate for him. Wrong move. I was so happy when he stood proudly by her side and said he is making the choice and he chooses Aida.

To Mate A Dragon by Naomi Lucas is an enthralling read that offers a refreshing take on traditional fantasy stories. Set in a captivating world, the book combines elements of dragons, romance, and adventure to create a captivating narrative. This novel showcases the author's talent for storytelling and ability to create immersive worlds filled with relatable characters.

The protagonist, Adia, is a courageous and relatable young woman who finds herself in an extraordinary situation. She embodies the qualities we admire in a hero - determination, bravery, and loyalty. The author skillfully portrays her transformation from an ordinary human to a dragon, allowing us to connect with her on a deeper level.

The enigmatic dragon, Zaerys, adds depth and complexity to the story. The author's ability to create a distinct voices his character adds authenticity to the narrative, making it more enjoyable and engaging to read.

The chemistry between both main characters is palpable, and their connection feels genuine and heartfelt. The author's descriptive language and vivid descriptions bring the romance to life, making it a truly immersive experience for the reader. The love shared in this book is not just physical but also emotional, which adds depth and tenderness to the story.

To Mate A Dragon was the author's vivid world building. Naomi Lucas does an excellent job of immersing the reader in her fantastical realm. The book combines elements of medieval fantasy with a touch of modern storytelling, creating a unique and engaging setting. The descriptions were carefully crafted, allowing me to visualize the characters and their surroundings with ease.

The genuine love shared between the two main characters and the vivid sense of the world created make this book a must-read for fans of fantasy and romance. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy fantasy and romance stories.

I'm just out here, continuing to live my best life, reading these stories about dragon-men & human huntresses making babies and falling in love (mostly in that order) amidst a tropical paradise I for sure want to live in. Fuck the mermaids though, they seem very fickle about helping.

Did I think this second book was as good as Naomi Lucas's first Tropical Dragons book? Yes! There was a slight let down because I already knew the dynamics of the initial meet-cute but it was more than made up for by the FMC's personality. She's so cool. She's like, "Who is taking whom now?! If anything, I am taking you!" and then he thinks, "I want to fuck you in front of your clan to show them I belong to you" and then I was dead. Put it on my headstone that I died from dragon humping.

Femdom energy is the only energy I want for 2022, especially after yesterday.

On another different yet strangely serious note, I felt very, very grateful for the balanced depiction of the FMC's younger sister, Delina. The heroine and her mother explicitly discuss Delina's lack of empathy early on and the character is shown to make decisions out of narcissism as the story goes on, yet I never felt as if she was being condemned. The book never suggests that Delina isn't worthy of her family's love or unable to form connection. In my experience, fictional narcissists are rarely given such empathetic treatment. And while I understand the urge to deprive fictional characters of the same empathy that they're incapable of offering others, it was a relief not to see that pop up here.

I am related to people with NPD and I love those people, even as they cannot always return those feelings in a way that feels recognizable to me. As many readers already know, it can feel like shit to come across the fictional representations of the type of people you love, and see those fictional representations relentlessly derided, assaulted, punished, or killed. Loving people is complicated, and it's wonderful when a book honors that, even in a small way. I'm making this sound like this book is mostly about Delina -- it's super NOT, it's about hot dragon-man sex and finding your self-worth as a kick ass huntress baddie who deserves love and babies and whatever else you want.

Bottom line: Dragons are fun! Gimme all your alpha heroine recommendations! Naomi Lucas, thank you so much for not going out of your way to punish your narcissistic female villain.

I really enjoyed this book!
I've been a fan of the Naga series from this author and was excited to start this series. The book is short computer to the author's previous works, but it was really good~!
I liked the characters and the drama/plot that happens in the book. I really like books that pull at your heart strings and make you feel sad for the MC, this book had a lot of these moments and loved every second of it! Highly recommend this book and series if you like monster romance ^^

LIKED IT!

I've been on a roll with this Venys Needs Men series and while all the books (even though written by different authors) have the same plot, I'm glad that Aida and Zaeyr was a little different. Like for once, even if Aida was seeking out a dragon to be her only mate, at least this time we get to see Zaeyr in dragon form, accepting her touch. Well-ish. I thought their meeting was damn freaking cool, and that Zaeyr's water dragon form was amazing!

Overall, there's not much to gush about because it's a pretty straightforward mild erotica. And it's a Naomi Lucas book. If you're a fan, then you can't miss this one.

Honestly wild how much of a step down this was from the first even though it gave me things I wanted from the first like a larger more involved cast and more discussion between the leads. Aida's family was a horror story straight off a Reddit advice thread where you have to try to convince OP their abusive family is actually abusive. Watching her learn to stop being their doormat was nice but so frustrating. The world feels very bare bones, like a cartoon. It was giving Dave The Barbarian. There's something here, sure, it's just buried under a bunch of bullshit. I'll still probably read the next one.

It’s one thing to donate your life to a task, and another to actually achieve it. Aida’s about to find out that being married takes more than just self-sacrifice… somewhere on the way it involves trust and love.

THE BLURB

Aida was raised her whole life to complete one honourable task; to take a husband and help ensure the survival of her tribe. Yet right before her dreams become reality, her fiancé is promised to another… her younger sister. Dreams crushed, she know’s she will never meet another… until the skies darken with wild and violent storms.

Zaeyr is an ancient dragon. He awakens, hearing a mating call from a female dragon, and emerges from his years-long slumber from beneath the ocean waves. Finally he can have a mate, a companion that can match him in every way. Then he lays eyes on a small human whose unafraid of his powers and might… and he’s entranced.

TONE OF THE BOOK

To Mate A Dragon is a neutral toned novel. There are a few tension moments between the characters, but due to the shorter length no drama is dragged on unnecessarily.

SENSITIVE TOPICS

To Mate A Dragon is aimed at mature readers. There are a number of sex scenes that aren’t not suitable for an immature audience.

This novella brings about the topic of infidelity and trust between couples. It’s not looked favourably upon.

SERIES SYNOPSIS

To Mate A Dragon is a standalone novel in the multi-author Venys Needs Men series. Other authors to contribute to the series are Naomi Lucas, Tiffany Roberts, and Poppy Rhys. You can see all the books contributed on the series Goodreads page. Naomi has contributed three novels towards the series.

Each book in the Venys Needs men series are considered standalone. I would however recommend reading To Touch A Dragon before To Mate A Dragon, both written by Naomi Lucas. The events happen somewhat at the same time chronologically, however characters from To Touch A Dragon appear and are mentioned in To Mate A Dragon.

Each novel focuses on a different couple. Furthermore, all novels and their romantic stories end with a happily ever after.

To Mate A Dragon is only 160 pages long, making it half the length of a fully featured romance novel. It’s a fast read, designed for a quick and fun adventure.

REVIEW

Naomi Lucas tends to write alpha-style characters who prefer to dominate their females. Having said that, they tend to like stronger-willed females, and they have a very much protective streak about what they consider theirs. It’s a fun balance, and her works do not tend to merge towards the abusive relationships that other authors write.

Aida’s character development is impressive, especially in such a short novel. It’s amazing to see someone who is so self-sacrificing, especially to the point where their trust and devotion are abused by others, become strong. I am saddened that it took her so long, and that she’s so drastically hurt along the way.

Unfortunately for some readers To Mate A Dragon does have some scenes that are borderline cheating. One character in particular is portrayed somewhat as the villain and encourages cheating behaviour, and yet they are forgiven so easily since they are young and yet to experience repercussions. Whilst forgiveness is important in any relationship, I really felt that this character needed to truly experience the consequences of their actions beyond a few tears being shed.

An underlying aspect of this novella is the importance of communication; a theme that Naomi seems to carry across a number of her written works. Without clear and willing communication characters struggle, and they experience hardships, but once they start working together their problems are resolved.

I would have loved To Mate A Dragon to be a longer novel; Aida’s jungle world and Zaeyr’s underwater world seems to be teeming with life that invites the reader to want to explore. Even though humans can’t breath underwater, we can hold our breaths! It would have been amazing to see more of Zaeyr’s world.

FINAL WORD

I really enjoyed reading Aida and Zaeyr’s story in To Mate A Dragon. Again, its a novella I would have liked seen to be made into a novel instead, just to expand upon the character development and world.

RECOMMENDED BOOKS AND AUTHORS

If you liked To Mate A Dragon, definitely read some of the other books in the Venys Needs Men series. Other authors to contribute to the series are Amanda Milo, Tiffany Roberts, and Poppy Rhys.

If you are a fan of dragon-shifter stories, Ruby Dixon has also written the Fireblood Dragons series. A fun adventure set in a post apocalyptic world that’s been taken over by mad dragons. Only when the dragons meet their soul mates, a human woman, that their madness clears. The first book in this series is Fire In His Blood.

Erin Tate (also writing as Celia Kyle) has also written The Dragons of Preor series. The first book is Jarek(read our review). Shape-shifting dragons have landed on Earth, seeking women as mates. However not everyone are happy at the new alliance between Earth and Preor…

I can only say that, although this was the first book in the series that I read, I really enjoyed it.

It is not a typical pink romance what we find here as such. But it's a good romance, with good chemistry.

Something that people who read these books always have to take into account is that You always have to go into these with something specific, they are different species, one of one of them is a dragon, a beast, a wild, possessive and free animal... And when they become human, that part of them doesn't change. He was huge, he was at the top of the food chain, the king of predators, superior to all species... And from that to becoming a human, it must be really very difficult.Even worse if they didn't know that was going to happen to him once a human touched him.

It is something that must be difficult to assimilate. It is taking away the power you had, the magnificence in a second, and becoming something simple and vain, small compared to your old you.

They were torn from something that was familiar to them, from their life... a very long life to which they were very satisfied and accustomed. From customs of their own species...

I liked this book for the same reason that it is realistic, the attitude of the male does not become more docile, it does not become human from one moment to the next just because, they develop in a certain way and it makes you feel why he behaves in such a way or reacts in another way. It's great! Because you meet your characters from different perspectives and learn about them.

I really liked how this author writes, and the way in which she makes me live what her characters live in the book, you feel what they feel and you fall in love with the environment and the dedication and love that the protagonist has for her town and her people.

You know, Aida might have been passed over on being a bride, but I really think she got the better of the deal when it all went down. (In a convoluted explanation, she was originally supposed to be Issa's brother's mate, but was inexplicably passed over and her younger [super spoiled] sister took her place. So she wasn't exactly in the best headspace when this story began. Still, she ended up with the better man, so who's the winner in the end?)

Following in her BFF Issa's footsteps...actually, Aida didn't really follow in her footsteps, did she? Zaeyr ended up coming to her (although he didn't know it at the time) and she just went with her instincts and snagged herself a dragon. A big, old-as-dirt dragon who had to wrap his head around suddenly being bonded to a human.

Yeah. Dragon/human relationships tend to start out a little rocky, don't they? Yet, the dragon always comes through in the end. And the idea of leaving their bonded and hooking up with someone else? NOT IN THE CARDS, PEOPLE. They are one woman dragons and that's that.

A little tribal politics, a spoiled brat of a sister, a woman trying to find her purpose after her world came crashing down, and a dragon with a chip on his shoulder. I like watching these dragons come to terms with their new reality A LOT.

SO. MUCH. AWESOME❤️❤️❤️

Absolutely loved this book. First time reading this author and I CANT wait to read the next book in the series!! (I’m so mad I have to stop now and go make dinner, because I’m so excited to read Issa’s story!)

This story is set in a land called Venys, where mystical animals such as mermaids and krakens are everyday creatures. And where a strange event has made producing males very rare.

Aidas tribe has this problem. And when the male that is supposed to be hers is given to her sister instead, she’s heartbroken and goes off to try and find a dragon so she can have a mate of her own.

And the dragon she finds is zaeyr, beautiful and dangerous and ready to devour her, to punish her for dragging him into the human world. But instead he finds himself drawn to her, an unbreakable bond wrapping around them, something he has never before experienced. It may be a strange human word called love.

This book has no cheating, (the h’s sister tries to steal zaeyr for herself but is rejected, and the mate that was supposed to be aidas also puts a move on her, which she also rejects.) the hero has been in his nest for centuries so whatever his past sexual exp it’s been a while and is never mentioned. The heroine is a virgin❤️ and her innocence is claimed by the hero.

short but hot

𝘽𝙖𝙙 𝙨𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨

When Aida’s sister steals her betrothed, she decides to one-up her by banging a dragon instead

𝙊𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨

Man, Aida has had a bit of a rough go at it. Her whole life having been dedicated to training to be the next one mated to a male from another tribe (because there are no dudes to choose from). Only to suddenly be replaced by her sister at the last minute. Her sister who is a selfish, conceited, smug, spoiled cowbag by the way. Not that I have a strong opinion about Delina or anything. Backstabbing slut.

And you know what? Their mother isn’t much better! I mean, not on the same scale because she’s not flaunting her new sex life, or throwing herself at their newest dragon resident. But to constantly tell Aida that she needs to suck it up and protect her sister? That it’s just tough about her feelings and she has a duty to her tribe? Screw. You. Mother.

I dunno, I feel like there was way too much forgiving on Aida’s part and zero remorse/grovelling/repentance on anyone else’s.

But anywho, I’ve been sidetracked by my indignation.

Zaeyr was the epitome of virile. Huge, hot, formidable, strong, giant aubergine emoji, wanting Aida to be the sub to his dom. Phew! And he took what he wanted. Oh did he take it. So damn hot.

Another good dragon book

I enjoyed the first in this series and I like how the FMC’s are strong and no nonsense as the warriors of their tribes. The only thing I wished was that the dragons reaction was a little different to behind turned human as I felt it was similar to the first book and there was hints that he felt the melt pull while he was a dragon, I think that might have been a slightly better plot because it would have made it slightly different to the first book.

I also didn’t like the way the tribe responded to the FMC. Especially when it came to what her sister did, they didn’t treat her right after everything she had done for them and I feel like either she should have left to go to the other tribe for a while or there should have been a lot more grovelling from them.

Otherwise it was a good book, maybe a little more understanding as to why the FMC had the ‘physical’ reactions to the dragon would have been a good idea too as it wasn’t really explained.

Good, easy read.

This Alpha Dragon was HOT

So 1st starting out it took me a bit to get into the storyline. After both characters meet and you can get past the inner dialogue the attraction between the two is scorching. When they have sex for the 1st time?! And the many times there after?! I just love the male character (forgive I forgot his name, starts with a Z🥴😂) and his cave man mentality. I almost made my husband read the sex scenes so he could get some ideas. I’ve read other books by this author and I’ve rated them 3? 4? stars ?I can’t remember. I finished this book two days ago and I’m still thinking about it. It is definitely going under my “reread” section and it left enough of an impression that made my lazy ass leave a review.

This was good but y'all already knew that

This was weird, a lot of fun, and really smutty. That's pretty much all I require for romances at this point in my life. This was a nice easy read. Especially if you like these kind of fantastical romantys with possessive humanoid alphas. The world was interesting and the setup easy to follow and fall into.

Truthfully, I wish they had stayed more dragonish and less humanish, But that's just me and my many issues. I don't know how the mechanics of that would have worked but that's not my job to figure out. Four stars because living on the beach with a possessive dragon alpha to constantly bone sounds like literal paradise.

This was enjoyable and very quick to read. We meet Issa in book one in this series and I just knew I had to read her story as well. I'm glad she was book two. I also like that the two characters I disliked the most in book one got their little bit of punishment in this story. I liked this a little less than I liked the first one, but only slightly.
