The Shadows That Hide Me: Living with Dissociative Identity Disorder

Rate this book
What lurks in the places one cannot see? What mind can comprehend when that sensation that something is not right becomes a reality of who you are? That it is you... you who hold the darkness, the terror, and the memories that are too horrible to look upon. Yet the memories are persistent in their battle for the light, and may perhaps lead to the end you somehow always knew would be yours... insanity. Those shadows do not disappear with the light. They follow, taunting with their whispers, beckoning with their lies. Avah fights to convince herself and those around her all is well, but she knows the truth... she desperately needs someone to save her. The shadows are taking over her life; she sees them in the mirror, and in her own eyes. She feels them digging into her mind, and what they ask she fears most of all... they want her life. These are the writings of one who suffers. Taken from pages of her journals, papers full of scribbles, and moments of life, this is the journey of one who strives every day to become One. A biography/memoir/journal about Dissociative Identity Disorder. This is the second book by Avah Rivers dealing with her life. 'The Octobers' chronicles more of her journey.

Someone very dear to me has DID, so I read this from their perspective. It was eye opening to discover what goes on in other people’s heads. This book helped me better understand the disorder and how it affects people. Plus, I’m a sucker for poetry.
