I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this Bible throughout this year. The scripture is presented chronologically with historical information included. It has definitely increased my understanding. It was recommended to me, and I am so glad I took the recommendation.

It's my third time through Smith's Chronological Bible. God's Word and Smith's notes equal a terrific learning experience every time.
I ran a little behind this year, just finishing my 2025 reading today.
God is always on time although I certainly am not!
Read this book. And stay safe and warm, friends.

This book was heavily edited by F. LaGard Smith. He put the verses in chronological order. I red this uniquely-edited Bible (ISBN 1-56507-524-2) several times over as many years through the mid- and late 90s. Minus one star because (no spoiler, in fact, quite the opposite: reader beware) F. LaGard Smith claims the crucifixion happened on Thursday, not Friday, to which I simply say, “Pfui!”

Other than that one peculiar editorial claim, it is an excellent resource.

Obviously the Bible part is great, and they did a good job chronologically. Their commentaries acted as very simplified summaries which most of the time helped but sometimes were pointless and other times opinionated. Definitely worth it for the chronology of it though!

This gives me sense of accomplishment for the year.

I feel like I have done something by reading the Bible from beginning to end. It's easy to read when the whole thing is compiled into chronological order to help the flow of the narrative.

A very satisfying study

I did it. I finished the Bible. Mr. Smith’s notes helped me easily understand what each lesson was about. I will read this tome again in a few years. I will now move to a different year-long Bible study that centers on devotion and prayer. The length of each lesson was very comfortable to read. I must say the chronological order has us reading many family trees in a row! While that wasn’t fun, reading the rest of this pre ious book in chronological order helped my brain organize the history of our religion. That was a great blessing. Thank you very much.

I first read this chronological version in 1990. This is my 7th time reading from beginning to end. Each time, I am enlightened over and over again to the beauty of the scarlet thread of redemption that persists from Genesis to Revelation. This is the “Manufacturers Handbook,” with instructions for living with purpose and in hope. A book that holds all the answers to the important questions of life.

Great motivational tool to read through the Bible in a year! There are notes and context descriptions before different sections to help understand them better, which really helps.

Lately I have been wondering which prophets were speaking to which group of people, or rather what the time frames are for each book of the Bible. I decided to change my daily Bible reading from a yearly plan that randomly selects passages to ready to a chronological plan. And though I am only part way through, I am learning so much more. The version of this Bible is the NIV, which is what I normally use in my regular studies.  A helpful reading schedule can be found in the beginning so that you can stay on schedule to reading the entire Bible in one year. The commentaries scattered throughout add additional insight and help me learn more about the text I am reading. I also love the dates included below the references on each page. This has helped me to better understand not only what is taking place, but also when. This has been a great Bible in a year and has helped me to dig deeper into God’s Word each day.

First sentence: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

When I found this one at a thrift store, I was super excited because I misread the copyright of the narrated notes by F. Lagard Smith for the copyright of the translation. For most of the world, "which" year for the NIV is a non-issue. There is a percentage for which it matters a great deal. NIV 84 forever! I partly jest. Still the NIV 84 is what I first read and loved. It is ALL the comfort and nostalgia I need. Have I moved on? Yes. Mostly. But don't ask me to gush about the NIV 2011.

This one is arranged into daily dated readings. It is single columns. Each day's reading is marked with a symbol. It is black letter. The font size was decent. It is, of course, chronological, that is what sets this one apart from other Bibles.

Wow...awesome.
Reading the Bible cover to cover is amazing as it is. But The Daily Bible allowed me to flip the page with everything in chronological order--no book jumping required. Not only that, but each section is prefaced with context and key points to look out for. This helped me read the full Bible as a story/history book. If you have ever read the Bible all the way through, you know that parts can be challenging because of the timeline skipping backward and forward or repetition of the same story across books or no context behind a this or that letter. This took all those challenges away and laid it out so succinctly that at times it felt more like I was reading an Epic novel. For me, this brought the Scriptures to life is a new way that may have gotten me just a bit closer to reading them in a closer light to the original readers millennia ago. This has certainly drawn me closer to God which is the most important thing and so I would 100% recommend to anyone, Christian or not.

Scholarly, Profound, Inspiring

This is the best Bible in chronological order I have read so far. What a treat to read this everyday for the whole year. It is very precise and thorough. The Lord' s word emanates in every reading and there is so much to learn and apply in life. I highly recommend this Daily Bible to all who desire a closer relationship with God and who want to read through the Word for the whole year.

I read this chronological Bible every other year. It’s really helpful to read the events in the order in which they happened; and Mr. Smith’s commentary provides additional enrichment and insight into the culture, traditions, and word meanings. I highly recommend this particular chronological Bible to anyone who is looking for a readable and organized Bible presented in chronological time order.

Best Chronological Bible

Each section is prefaced with a context summary, enabling readers to easily follow the text and place it within the events as they unfold. Really well done. Easily the best among 3 or 4 other versions I previously read.

This is my second read through of this particular version of a chronological Bible. I think it is the best one! Smith's occasional commentary really helps make it come alive, and is helpful and interesting.

Brilliance

A great version of the bible, with short insights to each reading. A perfect sharing of God's love and forgiveness for us all. This is the third time I have read this version and I shall do the same in 2026.

Very good

Very easy to complete. The synopsis before each chapter was helpful. The version was pretty easy to follow. I would recommend this Bible for anyone who wants to read the Bible in a year.
