I almost didn't look at this one - Lonely Planet guides seem pretty indistinguishable from the other big ones these days, but I am happy I checked it out from the library. Due to having friends who live on Maui, we have visited several times and know the island pretty well by now. But this edition of the LP guidebook had several new suggestions for places I didn't know about - including some great new hiking trails in Kapalua. Also, they have tried to include listings for "green" items (i.e., organic, local food offerings and biodiesel car rental) where they exist.

This book gave a lot of information, but I can't say it was terribly helpful. It certainly didn't help me get the most out of the Road to Hana. In fact, I found a free locally published travel book that gave way more helpful information. I have not enjoyed the Lonely Planet travel books I've used to this date.
