I received this as a gift several years ago, and since that time it has always remained close to my desk. Because the office in my apartment has become so cluttered with books, I'll often reach for this collection instead of trying to track down an original source. Most of the time, I find whatever it is I'm looking for here in this book.
The editors have struck a fine balance between breadth and depth, enabling the the book to be both comprehensive and approachable. The commentaries that precede each reading are excellent resources in their own right, providing a succinct blend of background information and insightful criticism to prepare you for the text. Footnotes are sprinkled throughout to aid the reader and to illuminate fruitful connections between one text and another. (For example, if you turn to the excerpts from Aquinas's De veritate, you'll find annotations linking his quotations to corresponding passages in Aristotle, Augustine, & Avicenna, just to name a few). In this way, the book serves as a great starting point for further exploration.
After using this resource so heavily for so long, I felt compelled to come back and finally write a review. It's been a faithful companion to me and I give it a strong recommendation.
