Flooded: The 5 Best Decisions to Make When Life Is Hard and Doubt Is Rising

Rate this book
Please, God, no more hard things.

Nicki Koziarz knows what it's like to whisper those words to God. She understands what it feels like to be flooded by hopelessness and hard situations, wondering if it will ever stop.

Hard circumstances often stir something so destructive in a doubt .

Through the painful loss of her mom to a brain tumor and her brother to suicide, she has learned that if doubt is left undealt with, it can cause the presence of unbelief to flood our lives--to the point that faith becomes unrecognizable. In the midst of her pain, Nicki looked through the lens of the biblical account of Noah and discovered five decisions a person can make to help deflect the destruction of doubt.

When you are wrestling with doubt and fighting back hopelessness, Flooded will help

• Quiet the fear that God won't come through by discovering the difference between wishful thinking and biblical hope.

• Resist the urge to control the uncontrollable by finding peace in between the problem and the promise.

• Find the familiar faithfulness of God in His Word when it feels like nothing is normal and everything is falling apart.

The reality of hard times holds a decision for each of us to find hope. And the decision to find it is yours. But you don't have to do it alone. It's time to rise above doubt, together.

Wonderful. Eye-opening. Thought provoking.

Flooded, by Nicki Koziarz, was a wonderful book to read during the life changing event happening in my life.

I was shocked to think a book on Noah could be so deep and bring out points I never saw. We all grew up singing the Ark song and reading about the flood, but Nicki Koziarz brought it to a new stage. I’m going through some hard things, but I can see now how Noah felt more overwhelmed than I do. He was asked to build something never seen because something never heard of was coming and he was told by someone not everyone knew.

If you are walking through hard things or have walked through hard things (and if you haven’t hold on because you will) this is the book to help you learn 5 steps from Noah and his hard thing to help you through it.

It’s is a must read for 2021 and all we have encountered in the last year.

Flooded has been an absolutely amazing book for me to read! It has been so encouraging and a blessing to my life, especially with the chapter of life I'm walking through right now. God knew this was exactly the book I needed to read right now. I found Nicki Koziars writing style to be very easy for me to read. (meaning reading it didn't stress me out, nor were there things I just didn't understand which is refreshing! There was nothing to be discouraged about in the book.) The book is extremely relatable, and it felt like we were sitting and having a conversation together.
Learning more about Noah's story was intriguing, as I had never heard of an in depth study on his account and this brought so much light to his story. Wow, the things He walked through, and the things he said yes to are amazing to me, even when those were hard things and not easily understood.

I know you will be blessed by this book, Nicki Koziars is so real and open here in this space, and I appreciate that. It makes me feel like in all the things we walk through, we are not alone. The chapter that speaks of when life is hard and doubt is rising: to remember who is in charge (Christ), is so powerful and continues to help guide us to whom we need to continually look to no matter where we are in life.

The stories about the Fixer Upper Farm are also a wonderful touch to the book! I have been around barns and horses most of my life, and this made this book even more reliatable to me. Some of the stories are absolutely hilarious to the point I was in tears, to genuinely heartfelt stories about loss and finding our new paths. I lost my heart horse a few years ago and it was such a hard place to walk through, especially leading up to and right after her loss. My equestrian journey hasn't been all that I thought it would be since losing her, but I hope one day to find the joy I once had with that one horse.

Truly, this book will bless you - it's one thats worth purchasing, and one that's worth reading!

This is Nicki's best book so far! I've loved her down to earth personality since I did bible studies at proverbs 31. I've read both her other 2 books and they are great but she has made me fall in love with the story of Noah and this book helps me navigate through hard times in life.

Though this book had a lot of good nuggets, the general idea, and the main themes were great, I just felt like there was something missing. I felt that it was choppy, that it needed smoother transitions. There were a few stories in there that were interesting in and of themselves but I didn't quite see how they fit into the point she was making.

For example, the beginning section of the book goes to the trouble of differentiating between disbelief, unbelief, and doubt. I still am not clear what the difference is.

I loved the 5 decisions, but I didn't feel that most of them were developed much. It felt like the majority of the content was fluff that didn't really need to be there, or it needed to be tightened into a cohesive whole. I just finished this book and already am having trouble remembering all of the decisions.

Favorite quotes:
“We are all constantly being flooded with messages that counteract Truth.” (p. 48)

“God commands. Noah listens. And repeat. Is it possible we're experiencing unbelief in our lives because we haven't been willing to take a posture of humility?” (p. 50)

“The destination of the ark is something we never see God show Noah...Listening becomes hard because we don't know exactly where we're going.” (p. 60)

“No matter how many times I've pleaded with God about His timing, we don't get to change the timeline of God.” (p. 109)

“Waiting on words of affirmation from other can also become a place of disobedience in our lives.” (p. 112-113)

“Remember, the ark wasn't built in a day. And this incredible thing God is building in you won't happen in a day either.” (p. 113)

“We do our part, but God does the hardest. He never expects us to carry the weight of what it means to believe Him / above all our doubts. Trust often feels like the hard thing … in the midst of the hard thing. But I have to also remind myself that God has a habit of doing holy things in the midst of the hard things.” (p. 118-119)

“I think we often confuse 'in charge of and 'in control of.' God has and always will be sovereign over everything … But God is not controlling us in the steps we decide to take … Think about God like a coach. The coach has the team's plan … He gives them instructions. But ultimately it is up to the team to decide if they will follow the plan …” (p. 137)

“There is a story being written in the midst of your unknown, loss, and grief. Your hard days actually mean something … But you get to decide who you will be.” (p. 193)

“Some of us are building something in faith. And some of us are building something out of fear … Faith and fear both fight for you to believe in something you cannot see. Choose your battles wisely.” (p. 195)

(I received a copy for free from Proverbs31 as a small group leader for this study. I was not compensated for this review. All opinions are my own, as was the decision to write this review.)

Flooded is a book that each one of us can use right now and over and over again. Taking us through the story of Noah, Nicki Koziarz does an amazing job of sharing his journey with much wisdom and insight. The five decisions laid out in Flooded are right on and relevant. It’s hard to pick just one of the decisions I need to remember the most because they all are so important, but I would say the last one is probably the one that stands out the most for me right now! For decision five, Nicki Koziarz reminds us to find the familiar faithfulness of God, and she does such a great job explaining what that means. If you have struggled with doubt and questioned God’s process in the past or are struggling with it now, this is the book for you! You will be blessed through and through by Nicki Koziarz’s honesty, relevance, and insight!

Nicki Koziarz' latest book, Flooded, addresses an emotion we all encounter: doubt. Using Noah and his obedience to God, Nicki walks us through 5 decisions we can make when life is uncertain. Her conversational writing style makes us feel like we are talking to a friend. Her anecdotal references to life makes her guidance relatable to our every day, messy worlds. Her insightful revelations into Scripture makes us want to pick up our Bibles and read the story of Noah over and over. Expect to be challenged as Nicki unpacks disbelief and unbelief, as well as how principles and promises differ. The 5 decisions are not easy ones; but if we can commit to making them each time we come face-to-face with doubt, we will find ourselves walking in obedience and kicking doubt to the curb.

This book is amazing. I found myself being convicted about the doubt and disappointment I had in my heart while reading this book. Nicki Koziarz writes in a way that is like a friend who lovingly gives you correction. She walks with us through every step and what I love is that she admits she's still walking through these daily. This is a constant reminder that we're always practicing God's truths and have others around us to get through life with. This book is for anyone who may be dealing with doubt in God's promises or if you hear right. This book is for every person who may just need a "listening' ear from someone right there with us in the trenches. Nicki Koziarz is an AWESOME writer and I jump on all her books as soon as they are released.

I really enjoyed reading through this book. Some "bible study" books like this are really wordy and hard to read through without spending hours of time trying to digest the lesson. I like Nicki Koziarz's way of writing and going through the Genesis story of Noah. Reading this has definitely changed the way I look at this story. I think, because the story of the flood is such a well-known story, especially for those of us who grew up in church, that its easy to gloss over what we can learn from the account in the Bible. NK goes through how Noah responded to God and to the situation he was in (both before and after the flood), and how his responses can teach us a lot about how to respond in times of doubt (listening to God, rising above doubt, paying attention to God's faithfulness were some of the decisions she outlines that stuck with me the most. With all of the crazy and hard things going on in the world right now, I think this book is a great resource for this year, especially if you're really struggling with where God is in all of the pandemic / political craziness.

You can be frustrated with God but as long as you keep walking with Him, He will keep working for you. “Flooded” helps guide you through 5 steps to continue making that decision even when life is hard. And as someone who’s been in that hard place way too often over the last several years, it speaks to the soul. Nicki Koziarz writes the way your no-nonsense best friend talks: it’s exactly what you need to hear even when it comes with a sweet voice and a hug at the end. In those seasons where your friend is hurting and you have no idea what to say or do, this book is a good gift. And if you’re in that season yourself, it’s a good investment.

This was an excellent book to read during the crazy times in which we live and during some personal things in going through. I listened to the author read this book and I felt her care and encouragement come through. She has a great sense of humor and is very real and vulnerable. I especially enjoyed the chapters on the promises of God and trying to be in control.
One of my favorite quotes was "the root of control is unbelief." I'll probably look for a hard copy of this so I can reread it and mark it up! 😊

I'm not sure that I've ever read a Christian living book that focuses on the life of Noah and the decisions he had to make while following God. I enjoyed the insights and research Koziarz put into this book. She related her own stories with her fixer-upper farm with the decisions Noah had to make when choosing to do the ginormous task God gave him. I appreciated her vulnerability and how she chose to relate the things in her life with what God asked Noah to do. I was challenged by Noah's steadfastness. There was so much that went into the Ark building and living that is glossed over sometimes, especially in the Sunday school type of settings. I enjoyed how Koziarz dug into specific verses and even words to give context to what was going on around and with the ark building. It helped me understand Noah more but, most importantly, it helped me understand God better in this context.

Nicki’s writing, again, did not disappoint! She brings you right into Scripture and the story of Noah and helps make it come alive. She writes as if she’s sitting right there, talking just to you! The five decisions she shares for when life is hard and doubt is rising seem so simple, but are needful reminders! My favorite was #5 Find the Familiar Faithfulness of God!

The timing of this book & this message is truly miraculous! I think it's safe to say that many of us have questioned God through the last calendar year. When circumstances are unknown & unpredictable, we feel flooded.
Noah is all too relatable & Nicki seamlessly weaves this centuries old narrative into our everyday lives. Her use of personal stories & biblical knowledge bring Noah to life in today's tensions, questions, & doubts, and the cord that runs through it all is the true character & faithfulness of our great God.
This book met me in the depths of my soul, in the tender places of grief & brokenness & doubt. Through the pages of this book, Nicki showed me God's Kindness in His faithfulness to Noah & challenged me to find His familiar faithfulness in the threads of my own life. Following God & rising above doubt are choices we must make every single day. Flooded gives you practical, realistic practices to help you choose God -- even when life is hard and doubt is rising.
Read this book. Ask the questions in the deepest parts of your soul. I pray you find our personal, intimate God as He waits for you to choose, even now, to follow Him.

Flooded: The 5 Best Decisions to Make When Life Is Hard and Doubt Is Rising by Nicki Koziarz is an in-depth look at the life of Noah and the decisions he had to make. There is an accompanying Bible study and 6 video lessons.

If you're doing the Bible study and reading the book, the time commitment is about 1 hour every day. I'm a fairly quick reader and it took me almost an hour to read the chapter, Bible passage, guide, and answer the questions...and I didn't write all my answers down.

To combat the time commitment, I decided to read the chapter ahead of time so the time could be spent focusing on the guide and Bible passage.

I enjoyed this slow walk through Noah's life. I never really thought about the different decisions he had to make and Nicki Koziarz did a great job of showing us how we could make those same decisions in our lives every day.

She was honest with her struggles to make those decisions while showing us the things she's doing and that we can do to go forward.

One of my favorite things about the Bible study guide was the "one thing you're trusting God for today".  I've been choosing a new thing each day and God has shown Himself faithful. I also enjoyed the weekly verse that we're given to memorize.

Flooded is a great Bible study for those who want a closer walk with God. Dissecting Noah's life gives you a pretty good idea of the steps you need to take but also reminds you that God is faithful and you don't have to do it alone. I received an advanced reader's copy from the publishers through NetGalley; a positive review was not required.

This post was begun and then the book was in my mailbox. The timing of its arrival was not lost on me. The day had been emotionally overwhelming, the one year anniversary of the pandemic was duly noted, and I was tired of waiting.

God's timing is awesome. Life has been difficult at this time and then this book came on my radar to help me out. Flooded: The Best Decisions to Make When Life is Hard and Doubt is Rising aids us when we face these hard times doubt about our faith is rising.
Flooded is a book filled with encouragement which helps to fortify my faith as I found the five decisions to make in these times.
I felt like God encompassed me with each page of this book I read. I most highly recommend this book to have on hand during those difficult times.
Flooded was given to me by Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review. All opinions stated are my own.

I never considered how doubt could creep in to every area of my life. Reading through this book was SO timely. We are still in the midst of a pandemic. We have a lot of doubts about the future.

It was so comforting to read a book where the focus was on doubt but how to overcome it. And the best part, Noah was going through his own pandemic. He obeyed God to the letter and saved his family. They were all that were left.

Nicki Koziarz has such a relatable writing style. I believe this is her best book yet!

I loved the starting chapters of this book, but after a while, it seemed the author wanted to talk more about her children, farm, and pets than her moms brief illness or other hardships. So it felt trite and not really a great help for people who are really struggling with deep, long trials.

I didn't relate to the author very well but she had some good thoughts on the book. I am not confident in the way she drew so many conclusions from the story of Noah but that is also just not a way of studying Scripture that I have done much research on. Overall I think it is a good book.

Recently I was asking God to help me find something to help me out of my 2 year season of being overcome with doubt and fears. I have been hurt and broken. I read this book and in the pages I found hope! Flooded has me searching for my mustard seed again. Before this book I was drowning in fears and doubts, and had no idea how to claw my way back to God. Through the assignment that God gave Noah I see the other side of the rainbow! I am extremely grateful for this message!!

There are many takeaways from this book that I can see implementing when the doubt in my life gets too overwhelming.
