Human beings are emotional creatures. We feel deeply, and at times our emotional responses to our situations may be overwhelming. Whether it's disappointment at an opportunity missed, grief when a loved one dies, anxiety when we go through a big life change (even a positive one!), or uncertainty when faced with a situation outside of our control, we can take those feelings to God--immediately--in prayer, and he will give us peace, comfort, and clarity.
Topically arranged so you can go directly to your particular need, Praying Through Every Emotion offers transforming Scripture and prayer to help you change your perspective, heal your emotional wounds, and find yourself unburdened from cares and concerns. The power-packed prayers cover nearly 70 different emotions, from feeling angry, broken, or exhausted to feeling confident, hopeful, and joyful--and everything in between. You'll even find prayers for the really hard things, such as when you feel depressed, shamed, or suicidal.
Your emotions are a gift from God, and he uses them to help you grow, both closer to him and more fully into the person he created you to be. Let Linda Evans Shepherd help you manage those emotions through prayer and see your attitude and mind-set transformed.

I've been a Christian since childhood, but even though I've been reading my Bible for years, there are still times when life and emotions are so overwhelming that it's hard to know which verse to read and how to pray to get through a situation. This book is perfect for those situations, and it's great for new and old Christians alike. Not only did I pray through many of these prayers, I'm passing it along to a friend who is still trying to figure out God and who he is.
Overall, I found this to be a great resource and one that I'm excited to share with others. The prayers are biblical and heartfelt, and the Scriptures that accompany them show God's words and truths that support the prayers. I will definitely be sharing this with others.
Some very good model prayers. This book covers a wide range of emotions.
Not a fan of the odd Bible translations used. Some of it got pretty repetitive. Also, many of her prayers asked for “more of Your Holy Spirit.” Which is erroneous. Once you have the Holy Spirit, you have all of Him! It’s really only a question on how freely you’re allowing Him to work.
I found the devotions particularly applicable to the way I was feeling. When I was blue, I could pick out a devo about how I felt, and it lifted me out my emotions to look at life from an eternal perspective. Great devotional book.
What was the point of this book? To make money for the author, of course. I wish I was just being cynical here, but I'm not. In the Introduction, Linda Evans Shepherd writes, "Be sure to keep an extra copy of Praying Through Every Emotion on hand so you always have one to give to a friend or a loved one."
Jesus, that's blatant.
Most of the book she did not write. She just quotes Bible verses. She's not content to just use one version, HELL NO. We've got a whole baker's dozen bouncing about here. The different versions clash worse than a pair of golfers. She mentions meditating on the verses, but a Christian's version of meditation is much different from the original purpose of meditation ... which was to not think about anything.
She advises that you pray the exact same little prayer she wrote, because she's just so Goddamned holy. The first one is for addiction, because WE ALL KNOW that the secret to kicking any addiction is reciting a prayer written by Linda Evans Shepherd. That's the first thing doctors and counselors tell their patients. That's why there is no one in the world addicted.
Unbelievably, it gets worse.
With the Anxiety prayer, she writes:
After all, the birds never worry or stress out their lives, and You take wonderful care of them. And You've said that I'm more important to You than the birds.
No, you are not more important than the birds, Linda Fucking Shepherd. Birds don't write deliberate baldfaced lies and false hope to other birds to scam them out of their money. No. That's why birds aren't cunts and you are, Linda.
Birds are also notorious for dying because of stress or shock. In the last three hundred years, at least 182 bird species have gone extinct. Hundreds more species are on the endangered list. Almost all bird species' populations have plummeted in just the last 25 years.
Clearly, God, if He exists, is NOT taking good care of the birds.
This ignorance and hatred of animals is sadly common among the religious, not just Christians. There is no proof that souls exist. However, should there ever be proof that souls exist, I fully expect that humans will not have them, but animals, including birds, do.
Prolific author, speaker, and president of Right to the Heart Ministries, Linda Evans Shepherd has written another go-to book, Praying Through Every Emotion: Experiencing God’s Peace No Matter What. Linda’s powerful and insightful prayers are written to engage the reader across a variety of emotions including those that are celebrated–such as blessedness and joy–to the more difficult emotional responses with which we all struggle like guilt, strife, or trust. She digs even deeper by including prayers that take on the emotions of shame, suicidality, and disillusionment.
Each scripture-based prayer is adjacent to a series of Bible verses aligned to that specific heavenly appeal.
This book is for anyone who is struggling to manage the drama and trauma of 2020 and its twin sister, 2021. It would be a thoughtful gift for the grieving, fearful, or uncertain–which may include most of us this year.
Favorite quote: “When I look to You, the darkness flees and hope lights my way.”
Praying Through Every Emotion by Linda Evans Shepherd is a beautifully written devotional book of prayers with Bible verses that corresponded with each prayer. Each prayer tackles a different emotion--i.e. anger, fear, stressed, among others. After each prayer, the reader is given Bible verses about that particular emotion. At the end of the book the author also gives you a website where you can access even more prayers, I used this book as part of my daily devotion time and it really ministered to me. I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs help with their emotions or those who seek to get closer to God. It would make a great gift and I plan on telling or giving a copy of this book to others. Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book!

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is a great companion for me in addition to the Bible. It covers alot of emotions and problems that we all struggle with and need a little extra help on. Wonderful bible quotes and I like the layout of the book, so easy to find what your looking for on any particular day or even hour, minute. You as do I will find this book a blessing.
What a great idea. A written prayer and scriptures to match every emotion I feel. I can pick up this book when I'm overwhelmed with that emotion. I will be gifting this book often because who also doesn't want this?
This has been so helpful - I haven't truly "Finished" the book, but I use it based on how I'm feeling and go to that particular passage. I'm glad I have this on my bookshelf as a resource.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. It sounded very interesting so I entered. I rarely win anything so was surprised to receive it.
I was asked for my honest opinion so I will give it. For a new believer who doesn’t have much experience with prayer or knowledge of the Bible this might be a good place to start your journey. Personally, I don’t necessarily love just reading prayers unless they take me into my own, but this may be a good launching place for your own prayer to the Lord.
I felt like the book was meant to be a substitute for your own prayers that might not be as well-said but would be honest cries from your heart to God. It’s always good to be reminded of scripture relating to our issues in life and that can be helpful to calm the spirit. I have found that it’s more helpful not to use the Bible simply as a “how-to” or “pick and choose” book but gain the whole biblical perspective by reading whole books and even the whole Bible itself. But, as a jumping Into the Bible, as I’ve said, this could be a good starting point as a devotional. It’s a little formulaic and simplistic in my opinion and not my style. I caution readers not to stop here. The Bible is so much richer than just what it says about my feelings for the day. It points us to God, it teaches us about His will, it shows us how to give Him the glory and not focus on ourselves, and in Him and His word, we find Jesus who gives us true hope for life and death.
