My parents’ love was forbidden. They died for it and my life is in danger because of it.
As a half-fairy, half-mortal living with a clan of banshees, you’d think I’d be safe. But when a sadistic banshee figures out what I am, I’ll have to fight for my life… not to mention the lives of countless mortals.
How hard could that be for a kick-ass banshee hunter? Harder than I realized.
Selling mortals to the highest bidder isn’t enough for the sadistic sicko anymore. Now he wants to create a superhuman race… using me as his lab rat. I’ll need to end him before he gets to me but seeking out his hidey-hole proves trickier than I thought.
And it seems I’m following in my mom’s footsteps, falling for a guy I probably shouldn’t, but the aura wants what the aura wants. While my love for the sexy-as-hell leader of my clan grows, so do my innate abilities. Abilities that will far exceed anything I’d ever dreamed.
When I gain full control over these stronger powers, anyone who comes after me, or those I love, will be in for a world of hurt.
Try me.
*If you love thrilling and sexy urban fantasy, with a strong female lead, action, humor, and romance, this one’s for you. Becoming Banshee is book one in the Fire Banshee series. It's recommended for 18+ due to language and sexual situations.
Kimberly Quay has loved romance & fantasy as far back as she can remember. Her childhood home was full of fantasy, romance, and thrillers books and movies. Born and raised in Florida, she spent most of her youth outside searching for fairies and hoping to meet (and fall in love with) a vampire.
Author of contemporary romance, paranormal shifter romance, and urban fantasy, she’s a sucker for a good rom-com and is fascinated by old graveyards. When she’s not working on her next novel, she’s reading or hiking the trails of North Florida.
Kimberly still loves reading. Especially Nora Roberts and Kim Harrison.
I received an autographed paperback copy directly from the author. What intrigued me most about this series is the concept of this book. Out of all of the fantasy novels I have read, I have not read anything including Banshees. My interest was instantly piqued. From the first paragraph, you are thrust into action and adventure. My fingers flew through the pages and I devoured the entire book in just two sittings. This was dark, edgy, and full of fire. Definitely for the 18+ crowd as it contains adult content. Speaking of which, the adult content is tasteful and takes place mostly off-screen, so don't shy away from picking up this book. I'm already off to reading the sequel!
Wow! I loved this book. It's is a fantastic read, I whizzed through it in a couple of sittings because it's such an exciting story from page one. Becoming Banshee by Kimberly Quay tells the story of Kadi, a half fairy who spends her life battling banshee's along side her clan members. I absolutely loved the pace of the story but I was left a little confused as to why Gabriel (the big bad) is so intent on having Kadi for himself. Having come to the end of the book, I think I know why but I feel like I could have done with a 'you don't mean' scene in there somewhere. Maybe I missed a bit in my eagerness to finish the story? Maybe I need to re-read it? In fact, I probably will re-read it because regardless of the questions I've got, I LOVED IT! And maybe the author's intent was to leave me with questions because she's writing book 2. I certainly hope so!
I loved reading about Banshees and fairies and their relationship with humans. And Gabriel, the bad guy, I hated, which is exactly what the author wanted me to do. I found myself becoming endeared to the family and each day I had to read more to find out how they all came together and how they would survive. This was a very good book.
Great read! This book got me intrigued from the start. I feel like I hit the ground running with the plot and at the same time the characters with Kadi and Ian etc were developing to keep my interest in them on a personal level. The writer had a way of merging fantasy and reality in ways that really made me think. It was such an easy fluid read for me. I look forward to more in the series
I loved this book and it's not even my genre. I couldn’t put it down. The storyline was great and absolutely loved the MC Kadi. Highly recommend! I can not wait to read the rest of the series.
Different view on the supernatural world. I do not remember reading a book about banshees anything like this one. A very interesting and entertaining read. Looking forward to reading more in the series.
Interesting read. Several twists and turns and different points of view I did not expect. Very good use of the country lay of the land, I have been in the area a few times but feel this book provides more insight into the general area. I want to read the next book(s) now.
I won this book in a giveaway but believe I would have bought it knowing it is as good as it is.
It's... okay. Some of the characters are fun. However, the writing and dialogue are stilted and the editing is poor. It didn't interest me enough to bother ready any more from this author.
I really enjoyed this novel. Such a great concept. The best part...the humanity in the characters. I love fantasy novels in which the human element exists withing supernatural creatures. Quay captures this so well, and she's able to combine that with a compelling story that keeps readers turning the pages. Also...this needs to be a TV series or movie! I'd binge it in one weekend! Looking forward to checking out the next adventure!
The book starts out in the middle of all the action. Very, very actiony. Lots of fighting! But it went on long enough it felt like... gee they're still fighting? Give me some backstory and narrative, already.
She's a half-blood faery. Everyone else in her life (at least seem to be) banshees. That's the world... mortals, faeries, banshees (who act like vampires but aren't vampires). And there's a big bad evil guy that's kind of obsessed with her because she's a half-blood.
The pacing on this book was all over the place. Fast paced scenes, to slow, to wait, what just happened?
I felt like there was a lot of lost potential in this book. The writing was okay, the characters were interesting but offputtingly mercurial, and the story was interesting. The dialog felt off sometimes when tempers would flare and then fizzle within a few lines of dialog. The dialog was hard to follow sometimes as the author doesn't seem to believe in telling you who said what, ever, even when there are three or more people talking.
I felt like this could have used more or better developmental editing. It could have been so much better. As is, I'm interested in checking out the second book, in the hopes that the writing improves, especially after seeing it was rated much higher than this one on average.
A good story with an interesting premise but I found some of the dialogue was a bit cliche. The action sequences are well done but the romance is a bit meh. A mix of various supernatural creatures and legends that do not quite gel together, still it is worth a read.
That did not really make much sense to me. Even the storyline was a bit off. At least the wording was consistent but the characters themselves where rushed..
