When a plane crashes at the base of Black Tooth Mountain during a wicked summer storm, Patrick Flint’s moral compass leads him away from a trail ride with his family and to the wreckage in a search for survivors. But what he finds may teach him that not everything is what it seems, and not every life is worth saving.
Snaggle Tooth is the fifth book in the Patrick Flint series of thrilling mysteries, a spin-off from the What Doesn't Kill You saga.
I'm a USA Today bestselling mystery/suspense/thriller author and a big horse and sled dog enthusiast.
My hunky husband and I ride our beloved draft cross horses way up in the frozen north of Snowheresville, WY, where we run a rustic, off-the-grid lodge on the face of the Bighorn Mountains. When I'm not writing or riding, I'm passionate about wilderness sports, always with a couple of rescue dogs, bear spray, a mountain lion knife, and my Judge. NO ANIMALS HAVE BEEN HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS LIFE ADVENTURE (but don't sneak up on me).
I've made some lists and won some awards, yada yada. Amazon Charts Top 25 bestseller. USA Today Bestseller. The Silver Falchion for Best Adult Mystery WINNER (Fighting for Anna), the WINNERS for USA Best Books Fiction: Cross Genre (Hell to Pay, Heaven to Betsy), and others. With books "in print" of over 3,000,000, readers seem to enjoy the books—I think they have exceptionally good taste. {insert goofy grin here} Lots of them follow my show Wine Women & Writing, too, where I fangirl my favorite authors and interview them for your listening and viewing pleasure. A one-day book (rather, night-to-nearly dawn) reading adventure is rare for me, and proof that I could not pause reading this one until the end. I do recommend reading the previous books in the series to fully appreciate all the characters; familiarity with previous interactions makes it a richer experience.
My initial reaction in the opening chapter was NO WAY is Patrick Flint going to successfully convince any family member to go camping again! After their recent (mis)adventures, I thought his wife very wise to stay home. Should have guessed I was wrong in both! This time danger and heart-stopping events became nail-biting on two fronts.
Without spoilers, I can say there are some very annoying characters aside from the true villains, but also events that soften the heart toward them. I hope this series keeps going until the teenage years of angst are tempered by some maturity and better (or at least less impulsive) decisions! Hutchins's talent and care for her characters have created a flawed, passionate family so authentic that they seem to walk off the page and into the reader's world.
This series has mystery, adventure, humor, moments of fear/terror, tender scenes, and striking scenery. It provided many hours of escape from the realities of 2020 and 2021. I recommend spending time with the Flints and you too will be anticipating their next escapade.
This review is from an advance reader's copy provided with a request for an honest review.
I'm not sure why the Flint family still lives in Wyoming. It's way too dangerous. In this book, Patrick takes his two kids and one friend on a trip into the mountains, along with a friend of his. They are heading up on horseback. Sounds like fun. But nothing goes well at all. Meanwhile his wife Suzanne, is looking forward to a fun weekend with friends, celebrating the imminent adoption of a friend's baby. Both couldn't have been more wrong.
This is another exciting, well written book. I've read all of the books in this series so far and I've truly enjoyed each one. I'm on the edge of my seat for nearly the entire book.
This book is probably best for mature readers. The author provided me with a advanced reader copy. This is my honest review.
Another gripping adventure, really two, for the Flint family. Patrick and the kids on one and Suzanne with hers all alone. Couldn't put the book down, a real page turner. Suspense, murder, lies, quest for survival, kidnapping, courage, loyalty, a touch of romance. A heartfelt story which will warm your heart at times, bring tears to your eyes another time, and show you the importance of family commitment and true friendship. How can a simple horseback camping trip into the mountains turn into such horrors? What could possibly go wrong at a baby shower to bring such despair? Read to find out. Recommend. Received an ARC and this is my honest voluntary review.
SNAGGLE TOOTH #5 in the Patrick Flint series novels is another barn-burner novel to keep you up tall night. Ms. Hutchins knows her business is to keep us enthralled and she does it, very well. Patrick is now the proud owner of a new pilot's license and a little Tri-Pacer plane, just big enough for his family, giving him quicker travel time for his work, and more comfortable access to the wilderness areas of his beloved Wyoming if they ever want to access it without horses. He and the kids are in heaven. Susanne is comfortable staying home, thank you. And then on his first solo run up to the reservation to deliver a donated x-ray machine to the clinic he nearly runs over a dead man on the runway of the Dubois airport. Not a good start to the break he is taking to accompany his kids on a horse-packing trip to Park Reservoir in Bighorn National Forest. Susanne and his visiting little sister Patricia Flint Sand gratefully opted to stay home this time. When he, his kids, and Perry's best friend John hear the plane crash just east of Little Goose Creek in Cloud Peak Wilderness high in the Blackhorn Mountains, Patrick will send the three kids back down to their camp and the friend they have encountered to go further down to alert the rangers while he rides up to offer aid at the crash site. Separating his forces seems to be the key to his troubles in these novels, and this one is no exception. There are friends on this mountain. And then there are serious enemies. Be ready for it to hit the fan, folks. This is a fast ride through calamity that may leave you breathless. It certainly did me. REVIEWED on December 20, 2024, at Goodreads, AmazonSmile, BookBub, Barnes&Noble and Kobo. Also reviewed on Patrick Flint Box Set 4-6 without read count.
This book was interesting and entertaining from start to finish!! Another continuing dangerous and life-threatening adventure for the entire family. It is hard to get any time to take a breath in between all the things that go wrong for the father, Patrick, and his poor decisions. It is strange that he continues to put his family and himself in danger in the wilderness. I would like to see him go by himself and give the rest of the family a break!!!
I had not read any of this series previously but Goodreads listed the book as 4.57 stars. Set in the rugged mountains of Wyoming, physician Patrick Flint sets out with his teen children and one of their friends on a trail ride/ camping trip. His wife stays at home to host a party for the upcoming adoption of a baby whose mother is on trial for murder.
This apparently is the fifth book in the Patrick Flint series in which these characters have faced outlaws, murderers, lost children, blizzards, and a variety of other dangerous people and situations. So, one would think that these people would be a little more AWARE, a little smarter, than these characters are. First, the physician’s wife, Susanne, whose husband is away on the trip, is notified that the criminal woman against whom Susanne was a witness, has escaped custody. Authorities tell her she shouldn’t be very worried because undoubtedly the woman will quickly seek to get as far away as possible. Okay. No worries then, though, it was clear the incarcerated woman had a lot of anger against Susanne. In addition, on this day, the escapee woman’s baby is at Susanne’s house with its foster mother. But no worries.
Then Patrick and his group, who have been troubled by treacherous weather and a boy who has gone into shock from their tribulations, hear a plane crash. However, before Patrick can go to see if he can help, an injured young man shows up. Patrick knows this man, who is known for shady dealings, but Patrick accepts everything the man says, including that everyone else on the plane is dead, despite a number of suspicious things the man does. I mean why wouldn’t you listen to a hoodlum, even when a number of suspicious things occur? When people who may be dying in a crashed plane Yeah, right.
I got so fed up with the MCs in this book I quit at the 50% point. No more Patrick Flint for me.
Patrick Flint, the local doctor, loves his new state of Wyoming and the ability to enjoy the outdoors. So he moved his family there from Texas. With his wife, Susanne, his teenage daughter, Trish and their preteen son, Perry they are now enjoying where they live since the criminal, Barb, who tried to kill them is now on trial and the Flint family who had to testify against her breathe a sigh of relief that it is almost all over. Or so they thought! And they have to deal with their teenage daughter who likes a boy that has a bad background and they don't approve of. In the mean time, Patrick took his son and daughter, Perry's friend John, and the family friend and neighbor, Henry on a horseback ride up snaggle tooth mountain to a park up there. Should be a nice trip for them - but no, we have a plane crash, the mob, a gun battle, broken bones and murder to deal with. So much for a fun ride up the mountain! This is an edge of your seat thriller that you can't put down once you begin! I can't wait to see what could possibly befall the family yet. Wow all these thread wrapped up in one book and done so well. This is an amazing book in an amazing series! I received an ARC but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Snaggle Tooth is one exciting page-turner! Patrick Flint determined to spend a relaxing weekend camping in the mountains with his son, Perry and daughter, Trish. While they're away Susanne will be hosting a gathering to celebrate her good friend, Ronnie's upcoming adoption of baby Will. Little do they know their plans and good intentions are about to be horribly disrupted. Unfortunately, the nothing goes as they planned. Patrick, Perry, Perry's best friend and their fellow camping buddies barely miss hitting a dead body on the landing strip, they hear a loud noise and think it's a plane crashing. As the trek to the camping spot they become involved with some bad guys. While that's going on baby Will is ripped from Susanne's arms by his birth mother who has escaped police custody. There's so much happening it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
SNAGGLE TOOTH ...Pamela Hutchins Patrick flying the plane or looking at Black Tooth Mountain the magic, the reverence he felt. His co pilot and daughter Trish didn’t feel the same, with her nose in a book. Giving his wife time for herself , and away from the moodiness of Trisha and the secret relationship she had been having. With their son Perry,.having to deal with a loss of John has put him in a blackness, wanting to drop out, and of football. The mayhem, disaster and loss they faced, but together and with friends they would manage. A story that is about one challenge after another and how they handled them. Seeing Trisha and Perry and what they are facing so young yet making decisions that they need to let them make. Enjoyed. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
To quote the author, “A character-driven, edge-of-your-seat mystery steeped in setting/culture, with a strong nod to the everyday magic around us, filled with complex, authentic characters”.
Set in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming, a relaxing weekend trip into the mountains turns into anything but, whilst events at the Flint household are also not all that they seem.
I laughed, I cried, I was riveted throughout this wonderfully thought out story. The book grips you from the very first page, hurtling you at break-neck speed to a climactic end.
Snaggle Tooth is the fifth installment in the Patrick Flint series, and I highly recommend it.
Patrick Flint Book 5, is the quaintly-named Snaggle Tooth, by the illustrious Pamela Fagan Hutchins.
Patrick and his snarky, sassy, teenaged daughter Trish have an unexpectedly bumpy landing - why?
His steadfast and loving wife, Susanne has increasingly bad migraines, that sometimes bring terrifying visions. What events make them worse? Murderous psychopath Barb Larkin has escaped from custody and is on the run. Will she try to snatch her baby son back? What danger does Susanne face during a car chase?
The Flint family, plus son Perry's pal, John, and neighbour Henry, ride the trails round Black (Snaggle),Tooth Mountain on horseback. Little do they know the terrors and injuries that await on its slopes. As darkness falls and weather worsens, how will they be able to get to safety and shelter? What happens when they encounter two (separate) groups of strangers on the mountain?
An action-packed thriller, that will keep you on the edge of your seat and up all night, Snaggle Tooth is a riveting new Patrick Flint story by Pamela Fagan Hutchins, that guarantees satisfaction and to be so riveting, that you'll feel as if you're there with Susanne, as she battles against a crippling migraine during a rescue attempt...or with Trish, Perry, Henry, John and Dr.Patrick, who gives his all on the mountain, when the love of money brings evil to threaten the family, bringing a tragic end to their trip. Get yourself a copy today!
I rate this a 3.5 but that's not possible on this scale. My rating is due to the character of Trish. I really have had enough of her selfish ways in reference to her decisions about boys.
She is not old enough to be on her own and she often doesn't make sound decisions concerning her love life. If it's meant to be for her and Ben, then a few more years isn't going to change things in the long run. She is really insecure about her love life. She's only 16 for pete's sake.
Other than this, this family can never catch a break. I have a difficult time believing all this could happen to them (books 1 through 5). But if you suspend belief and go with the flow, it is great entertainment.
This is the 5th book in this series about Patrick Flint and his family. The adventures they have in these page turning books are fascinating and unexpected. Simple things like a weekend trip up a mountain on horseback turn into a wild ride. All of this series by Pamela Hutchins is beautifully described and you actually feel like you are right there with them. This book has two story lines each one fast paced and dangerous and completely keeps you reading as fast as you can to see what happens next. I love all the different series that Pamela has and you will too.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for reviewing this wonderful book.
How does she do it?! I think it’s going to be this way and boom she throws a curve ball and you are on the edge of your seat and it’s four AM. I love her writing.
However, this series is full of passion and love for the Wild West of Wyoming! It has become my favorite series she has written so far. Snaggle Tooth hits all the feels. It is never boring and you will read it all because you have to know if Trish is going to make any bad decisions today and what will become of Perry, Suzanne and Patrick. Will their love for each other and the training that their parents taught them get them through another adventure safely?
Between the Flint family, these stories just get better as you follow along! From Patrick and the kids with their outdoors adventures and Susanne saving the day, you will be completely engrossed in this story. I find myself hoping the Harcourt finally get to breath a little easier. That Trish finds true happiness, are as much as a teenage girl can hope for. Perry has been through too much for a little guy but gets right back up. Henry and Vangie have so much going for them as well. I am invested in these stories and can't wait to start the next one. If you are not already a Patrick Flint fan, what are you waiting for?!
As the same friends and relatives written to exciting new story in the great land of the mountains. DR. Flints rides the horses for a weekend trip that quickly becomes danger. Hutchins is at her writing best as she brings a combination of romance, crime, a plane crash and family issues. Snaggle Tooth is both a mountain and an accident of a hit of a mouth in a kick. The Flint family deals of serious problem for every. The landscape is beautiful and danger. Once again the story makes my repeat the story.
Patrick Flint mysteries are the very best. Watching him and his family get into and and out of scrapes is fascinating. I love the authors ability to ensure that everything, hairstyles, clothes, cars etc. stay true to the timeline of the stories. Ever time I read one, a part from enjoying the great drama, I get a little bit nostalgic for the simpler times. It is also always great to see the family dynamic between Patrick, his wife and the children. It is not perfect, but it is filled with love. It is always like catching up with family.
Dr. Patrick Flint almost hits a body on the runway as he lands his plane. He and his kids find Chicago gangsters on a mountain trail looking for a downed plane with millions of dollars in it. Gunfights and madness ensue and in the meantime Patrick’s wife has a baby abducted from their house. There is plenty of action in this fast paced book. If you’re not familiar with the Flints, you will be after reading this adventure. If you are a fan, you will stay engrossed with the adventures of Patrick and his family.
Another exciting page-turner! Is Patrick really planning on spending a relaxing weekend camping with Trish and Perry? Susanne is throwing a party to celebrate Ronnie’s upcoming addition of a baby named Will. Neither weekend is going to go as planned, and danger is right around the corner, as well as the birth mother of baby Will steals him from Susanne’s arms. Laughing, crying, and being completely riveted are evident when reading this terrific book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Dr. Patrick Flint is on a mountain horseback ride with his children, a friend of theirs and a guide up to Snaggle tooth Mountain in the Wyoming wilderness. A plane has gone down in the area and unknown to Patrick the plane is filled with tons of illegal money. Patrick must leave his children to go check on the status of the passengers and crew at the same time associates of the passengers are on their way to check on the status of their money. A harrowing story of non-stop action and family drama. This is a book to read in one sitting.
The 5th book in the Patrick Flint saga does not disappoint. Patrick's sense of adventure once again leads his family into danger. This author does a wonderful job describing the beautiful Wyoming country while, at the same time, coming up with great plots. I read this as a beta reader, but you will want to read it as soon as it is available. And if you haven't read the first 4 in this series, do yourself a favor and read them right away so you will be ready for this when it is published.
A camping trip in the mountains, what could go wrong? If you're Patrick Flint, lots! Another engrossing read about the Flint family's adventures in Wyoming. Plenty of twists, some crude language (you've been warned), but great descriptions of the Wyoming wilderness along with well-drawn characters. This can be read as a standalone, but reading the entire series provides a better understanding of the characters and their development.
Gritty resilience herein! Another action-packed and gripping read! The Flint family continues to have one adventure after another, a testimony to their individual differences and survivability against the odds. They have shaky relationships with each other, dealing with loss and disappointments. Because this is Book 5 in the series, we have a history with these people…yet one or another can still surprise! The surroundings in Wyoming are superbly drawn. Can’t wait for Book 6!
Patrick Flint, MD, takes some of his family and friends on a horse ride into the mountains. They find Eddie who says he was in a plane crash. At first he claims he is the only survivor. This is a novel with non stop action. A woman whose baby is up for adoption, escapes jail. A group of criminals looking for cargo on the plane, a stolen baby with the baby's mother on the run. Suzanne follows her to try to save the baby. I could not put this one down
Another adventure, another story you can't put down! Patrick can't get a peaceful time in the Wyoming mountains with friends and family and Susanne can't enjoy a simple baby shower. However. readers can enjoy the suspense of wind, hail storms, bullets flying, criminals escaping and even young love as you spend some more time with the Flint family. They've become my favorite '70's laid back yet overachieving action/adventure family!
I love the Patrick Flint series. If you like suspense, intrigue, mystery and great story telling you should start this series with the first book, Switchback, and read all the books. The Flint family father, Patrick, is a doctor who loves outdoor wilderness excursions in Wyoming that always turn a little or a lot exciting with part or all of his family along for the adventure!
I have been binge reading the Dr Patrick Flint series and lived each book. The setting of Wyoming and the Flint family and the endless problems they seem to have in the wilderness - and at home- have kept me on the edge of my seat. Then I read that the author based her series on her father, and her families life in Wyoming in the 70s, which made them even more special. No wonder the character development is so good!
As always, this author has turned out another action-packed adventure. I don’t know if I would like to go vacationing with the Flints since they seem to attract trouble…but they would definitely be an asset to have on your side if trouble found you. Highly recommended . This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
Patrick Flint and his family have to be the unluckiest family ever. No matter what “normal” activities they’re doing, death, destruction and violence seems to find them. Snaggle Tooth contains almost more craziness than normal. Total action, all the time. I loved it.
I received an ARC copy of the book in return for an honest review.
Another winner! Pamela Fagan Hutchins' Snaggle Tooth is a combination of horrible luck, bad weather, valiant heart and effort, and a wonderful cast of strong willed characters I've grown to love. Putting most of the action in the wilds of the Wyoming mountains is a real joy. I really enjoy Hutchins' writing and spirited narration of this Chip recording.
