Loved this! Although now classed as a dated book, I loved all the science backing why certain foods are no good for PCOS and the added support references. Would recommend to a friend.
There is nothing too novel in this large book -- it may have been ahead of its time in 2002. Now, it's pretty standard information: eat protein, low glycemic carbs, and healthy fats. Avoid the weird processed things, chemicals, and sweeteners. Manage stress. Consider "alternative" therapies.
Losing weight is a big focus, and the information about portions, motivation, and the emotional connection with food is a well worn path (at least in my reading). The mini-meal approach recommended by this book was popular in the early 2000s, but did not work for me. There is also information about associated issues (diabetes, thyroid, digestion), but those sections are so brief that web MD probably has more detail. The ten pages of recipes didn't fit into the book well. I though the A-Z listing of supplements was interesting.
I highly recommend this book. It has helped me understand in more depth about the Syndrome and what you can do to help your symptoms with food. It does help! I have lost 11 lbs because of this book, my acne has cleared up to a point that I'm not embarrassed and also my fatigue as calmed down. I have energy!!!
I still pick it up and read it, so I guess I'm not finished yet but I have finished at least once. :)
I found this book to be full of information on how to handle PCOS through food. I am definitely going to read again as there is so much information. The book gives ideas of what to eat and what to get together. It gives suggestions on supplements and offers supportive ideas on how to change the thought processes with dealing with food. If you have PCOS or are interested in knowing what it is, this is a book to pick up!
A very useful tool for anyone with PCOS, though I would have loved for the book to have more quick easy recipes than what is inside. Honestly though, a very helpful and informative tome.
