In this powerful book, bestselling author and "seer" Lynn V. Andrews takes us on a journey toward self-completion by tackling the problem of imbalance -- in life, in love, in work, in spirit. Drawing on a wealth of lessons learned during two decades of lecturing, teaching and counseling, Andrews outlines practical steps for focusing the ways in which chasing a career or raising a family has left many people, especially women, yearning for spiritual and emotional sustenance. Andrews teaches readers how to balance the need for love with the desire for power. While some people have material success yet unfulfilling love lives, others have wonderful marriages but feel that they have not tapped their unique potential as individuals. According to Andrews, the first step in reestablishing balance is to connect with the spiritual. Most people lead incredibly stressful lives and, as a result, lose focus. Andrews helps us look at what we really want and assess what really works on a daily basis to move our lives forward. She then offers guidance for filling the emotional void by striving for selflessness through nurturing self-love. At the heart of a genuine relationship with spirit is a deep and abiding love that, when tapped, attracts goodness to us. By lighting a spiritual path, Lynn Andrews guides us inward, toward our true selves. Love and Power   offers the tools and the courage to weave power and love together into a vibrant tapestry, into a rich and harmonious life.
I devoured her Tree of Dreams and the next day I went back to the library to pick up another of her books. This woman takes you on a trip, and teaches you to look at everything from a totally new perspective. I've learned so many things from her writing that I've shared with others, practiced throughout my day, and written down and I think these things will resonate with certain people during certain parts of their journey. Right now, her writings are an immense source of inspiration for me.
Awesome. This woman is female Carlos Castaneda! Just the right kind of a thing for me to kick-start my spiritual practice again. Highly recommended for everyone looking for their Path, and everyone that already found theirs.
I couldn't tell if I was reading a self help book, a Sex In The City monologue or a spirituality book and somehow the author managed to make it all three. I felt that this was a really vague interpretation of spirituality, self realization and was so 'bite sized' and common sense based that it wasn't any help to me.
The mention broadly of 'god' or ' the great beyond' left me truly confused to the authors intended audience or if she was just trying to apply her belief system without labeling. But I will say, labeling can be a good thing because this book was just too eclectic for me. There was not enough information on where the life lessons came from, not enough mention of meditations or practices that weren't painfully simple or found on any meditation app.
I felt somewhat cheated by the end, hoping for something that never came and I think that Andrews failed to make her point about love and power being connected in her writing, it didn't leave an impression and is sadly forgettable.
The one plus is the little activities/questions she poses to the readers which are good for basic self inflection.
(5/20/08)I've not forgotten this book. It's just one of those that I pick up when I feel the need to pick it up. And it's working out well with this book. Two-thirds of the way through, but I'm in no hurry to finish it. It'll happen when it happens.
LYNN WAS WRITING THIS BOOK WHEN I STAYED IN HER HOME IN PHOENIX. THE BALANCE SHE WAS OFFERING WAS NOT EXACTLY ACCURATE OR WHAT WAS BEST. YET, I COULD ABSOLUTELY SEE ALL THE NURTURING AND EFFORT SHE HAD PUT INTO HER EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH.
